Were is the 4GB file after the download is complete? ALSO, if I reapply the download to that machine to reset or fix corrupted system files, etc., is the downloaded install image gone afterward? In other words, does the install "clean up" and remove the downloaded install bits?Â

I have installed Lion on my desktop computer. How do I download Lion for my laptop.Yes, I did pay for this, but it was a download from the store. The directions to do this for multiple computers seem non-existant. Additionally, when I log in to my Apple account it does NOT note that I have purchased Lion at all.My laptop does have 10.6.8 loaded.

I work in Tech Services at my University, and I've been presented with this issue multiple times at work. I think my entire group of co-workers have just been living with the precedent, a notion that I think is entirely false. Here's an example of the situation:
A student comes in with a non-working MacBook, vintage 2006, say. Something's wrong with the OS itself.. the student probably deleted /etc or something, not knowing what it was. Regardless, the computer is effectively borked and a reinstallation of Mac OS X is in order. My co-workers, and even my boss, tell me that I need to have _their_ disk to perform the reinstallation.
I think that's wrong. Mac OS X installation disks are now all the same. Newer ones might have newer drivers for newer machines, but outside of that, so long as a person has a license to that version of Mac OS X which was on their computer, they can use whatever media they like. If they own a Mac, they have a license already to the version it came installed with.
I don't believe there is any breach of license or copyright here by simply having our own archive of installation media for Macs, so long as we install the same version that corresponds with their computer's default setup.
I do realize that doing this will lose their iLife installation and any other third-party software that they had their computer configured with, but I can say personally that I'd be more glad to have a working computer and no Office than a non-working computer and Office.
Anyone have some thoughts? I'd like someone with more IP/legal knowledge to share their thoughts.
I have 4 computers linked to my Apple ID and numerous IPhones and IPods. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when I purchase a song, and successfully download it, using my computer. The only way to get it to the other computers is by transferring it via my IPhone or IPods. It seems as if I've downloaded something once from Apple, then they don't let me download it again onto a registered machine using the same Apple ID. Therefore, I transfer music/app content using my devices. Isn't this what everyone does?
Now, Mac app store is coming! How the heck am I going to download content onto one computer and then transfer it to another computer (Apple says the 1 time purchase will be good for all your computers). Do you think Apple will allow multiple downloads of the same software to any computer associated with you Apple ID? If this is the case: Why not allow us to do the same thing with our ITunes purchases? Anyone care to chime in and letting me know if I'm off base, or have any suggestions, etc.?
Is there an easy way to keep my ITunes libraries in between two computers (MacBook and IMac), and my iPhone in sync? I've been having a bit of trouble, particularly with my IPhone - if I'm on the road, and download new podcast episodes daily, and then get home at the end of the week and plug my IPhone into my iMac, rather than syncing the new podcast episodes to the IMac, the IPhone gets wiped out and only has the podcasts, songs, etc that were on the IMac. Is there any easy way to keep the libraries on the two computers and my IPhone synchronized?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst off, I have an iBook G4 with Leopard, and an iMac Intel that I just recently upgraded to Leopard. I have used my external drive to previously backup my iBook with Time Machine. I would like to start backing up my iMac too, with the same drive. Would this present a conflict as far as the multiple backups from different systems on the same drive? Obviuosly space would be an issue in the long run...250GB drive, devoted only to backups. Also, if/when I utilize Boot Camp on my iMac, will the Windows partition backup through Time Machine?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOkay so here's my setup:
IPhone
MacBook Pro (10.6.2)
Mac mini (10.6.2)
Airport Extreme with a USB Hard Drive
I would like to set up one ITunes Library so both of my computers can access it. Furthermore I would like to be able connect my IPhone to any of the computers in the house and sync my music, podcasts and applications as normal. Here's what I've tried so far (which worked with my music, but didn't work with podcasts and IPhone application, etc).
1. Copied all the music to my Mac mini.
2. Opened iTunes Preferences and pointed my library to the 'Music' my NAS drive.
3. Went to File > Library > Organise > Consolidate Library.
Now my NAS iTunes library has all my music, but has no library file or XML file in it. Plus if I add ratings to any of my music, the information is not transferred over to my other computer.
I have the following items all currently connected through a fast ethernet connection and using NTT's Flets to connect to the internet.
G4 computer
Intel MacBook
Gateway laptop (Win)
Canon printer
2 IO Data external HD's
Canoscan scanner
I would like to continue using the Flets connection for the internet but would like to link the computers and the printer to a wireless network and eliminate the clutter of cables, hubs and routers.

The goal: To have all computers in the house use the same itunes library. Now the new ReadyNAS by NetGear has the option to put all the itunes music on there, and it shows up on the network as a shared library. Is there a way for multiple computers to share the same library on a external hard drive, or in this case, time capsule. I can see where a networked itunes library (like a shared computer) would work just fine for playing music, but you run into problems when say, you want to transfer songs to a ipod, iphone, etc.
One option would be for one of the computers be the main music server, and have that computer be the one to do the music transfers, but what if that computer is off. Multiple computers on same network, sharing same itunes library, but still able to manipulate the files?
I have 2 Macs in the house, with a 3rd coming soon. I backup mine to an external hard drive using Time Machine, but neither of the others have a backup plan in place.
One user doesn't really need a robust backup solution, but the person getting a mac soon does.
I was thinking I could kill two birds with one stone if I got a Time Capsule. Now I've read all about how you can partition Time Capsule and stuff like that (and I'm technical enough that I could probably pull that off if I wanted to, but I don't think I do). What I haven't found out is what the Time Capsule does if two users have been syncing to it, and on the next backup it runs out of space.
I have two desktop macs, a macbook air, two iPads, and two iPhones. I have one Apple account that I use for all music - including music my college aged kids download. My problem is that I would like to get all the music into one library, delete the duplicates, then have the external drive store all the music. Is there a practical way to do this? This way I can set up my devices so that they all have the same music and playlists.Â

I am using Mac OS X Lion Server on my iMac that always stays on at home. I also have 4 Macbooks that I have connected to the VPN. When all of these computers are under the same Airport Extreme at home, I can see all of them on any computer and can screen share and connect to any one of them through any computer. However, I want to be able to see these computers even if I am connected through another network. For example, if I am at my office I want to be able to see my iMac or other Macbooks on my sidebar in Finder.i have seen other people do this, I am just wondering what is it that I need to do.I can connect to my VPN from any one of my Macbooks outside of the network perfectly and even through my iPhone.
I have opened ports.
