OS X V10.7 Lion :: Ignore Missing Keyboard Dialog?

Feb 11, 2012

I have a Mac Mini which serves as a media center, without a keyboard attached. After I have upgraded to Lion, it shows a "Can't find keyboard" dialog whenever I start up. It can only be dismissed by attaching a keyboard. Is there any setting that will make the mac ignore the missing keyboard?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Address Book Button Missing From Fax Dialog

Jul 2, 2012

I went to sent a fax like I have always done, for years now. I select Send Fax, then Facsimile. There used to be a button that said Address Book so I could find the fax number to use. That button is no longer there. I now have to manually open the Address Book to find the number, then copy and paste it into the Fax (Print) dialog window.Over the weekend I did update my Brother printer driver using Software Update. Did this cause the Address Book button to vanish?

Applications :: Word 2008 Ignore/ignore All Spell Check?

Nov 17, 2009

When I am running spellcheck, sometimes I need to click on "ignore" and sometimes on "ignore all". If I click on "ignore" the first time and then move on to the second queried word "ignore" doesn't work. I have to click on "ignore all". Then the third time "ignore all" doesn't work and then I click on "ignore". So basically I have to alternate between the two options all of the time.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: "Ignore Ownership" Setting Lost After Restart?

Jun 1, 2012

I'm using Lion 10.7.4 with an external Drive on which I've set a partition to store my iPhoto and iTunes Libraries. I called this volume "Media" and checked "ignore ownership ont his volume" as I wanted to share these libraries between my user and my wife's one.Until a few days ago everything ran quite fine, then I noticed I had read errors running my rsync backup. In fact, "ignore ownership" was off, and is reset to off upon each reboot

I haven't searched if there's a way to enable it by using a command line tool, which could be an acceptable workaround by launching this command line at each boot, but I'd be interested in knowing why this is happening, I could try to move all data to another partition forth and back and recreating the volume in between, but as I'm talking about 100+ GB I'd be glad if there's another way?

OS X :: IMac Keyboard Suddenly Missing Keys

Sep 29, 2009

My Aluminium IMac keyboard has suddenly begun to miss keys, the E,P,D,C and both the back and spacebar keys are completely dead. I wasn't using it at the time but each key supposedly went one after each other in under thirty minutes, I've checked mouse keys and speech settings as well as removing keys to clean underneath but they weren't sticky to begin with. Sorry for the lack of detail using the onscreen keyboard takes quite a while to type coherently.

MacBook Air :: Alternative To Missing Keys On Apple Keyboard?

May 31, 2012

I came from the MS Windows PC. I love everything about the Macbook Air and the Apple OS; however, I get used to the Delete, End, and Home buttons. Is there a way on the Apple keyboard that I can simulate these functions? With these buttons, I can easily move to the end or start of a sentence for word process editing. I can delete from the right side of the sentence instead of using the arrow on the Apple keyboard to move it to the right and then use the Delete (which is really a Backspace key) to delete the word.

OS X :: Little Checkbox Said Ignore Permissions

Aug 4, 2009

I had a folder (called "Other") with read and write access for Joseph (Me), everyone, (unknown), and Joseph (Me, again), but for some reason I couldn't write to the folder - I only had read access even though three forms of me had read and write. I tried changing the permissions of the parent folder to read and write (which they already were for everyone, but I added my account too for the hell of it) and then applying it to the enclosed items, but that just added "wheel" to the Repairing permissions did nothing, I ended up just setting my entire Macintosh HD to read and write for everyone and a few other people, then applying to enclosed items. That worked, but then for some reason it changed my external hard drive's permissions to "Custom" for Me, Me, unknown, and everyone. I can't access my external at all now, and nothing happens when I try to change its permissions. There was a little checkbox that said "Ignore permissions"

OS X :: Icons Missing In Finder / Apps And Video Icon Missing

Nov 30, 2010

Over the last few days I've noticed a problem with missing icons. It seems to mainly effect icons in the Trash but I have one or two missing icons for videos and apps within the Finder and on the Desktop. The icon is completely gone - I have to click on the filename to select it. Quicklook works OK (for video).

I can't think of anything I've installed that would have done it except Onyx, but I haven't run that in weeks. I did repair permissions a few days ago but I doubt that could break this. It persists after a reboot. I can't get it to happen on command, it just randomly occurs. Creating a New Folder always works OK.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Some Pdf Attachments Missing In Mail 5.2

Mar 28, 2012

I fail to receive pdf attachments intermittently using Mail 5.2 running OS X 10.7.3 (Lion). When the attachments do not arrive, I see no paperclip in the attachments column. On a recent occasion, a colleague sent me three consecutive emails, each with 1-2 pdf files attached.  The middle one (containing one pdf), shows no attachment in Mail.  However, I know the attachment is there, because if I open it on my iPhone, I see the attachment.  What's more, if I forward the email to myself from the iPhone, I can now see the attachment again. This has happened several times in the past as well.

MacBook Pro :: OSX 10.7.3 Lion Preferences Missing CPU?

Apr 3, 2012

I recently noticed that my mac book pro, 17" display, with Dual 2.66 Ghz i7 processors is running slower than usual. I ran disk utility and onyx and everything is fine. When I run apps in general things seem ok except for Safari, which crawls at times and I get a lot of spinning beach balls. Seemlingly a very common problem lately. In trying to locate the source of the problem, I went to my preferences to see what OSX thought of my system. Low and behold, it thinks that I only have one CPU!!! The OS thinks I have 1 CPU where the apps know that I have 2 CPUs. When I am running apps that display the CPUs, (i.e. Activity Monitor, video apps, disk burning apps, etc) they all show 4 cores as expected. why the system would be incorrectly displaying only one i7 CPU? This has happened in recent weeks. The last time I looked (weeks ago) it correctly showed 2 i7 CPUs. I have reboted my machine several times already, so that's not it.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Missing Files After Migrating From 10.6.8

Apr 15, 2012

Migrated from an older 2007 iMac to a new iMac w/ OSX Lion via ethernet connection between the two machines.

Migration appeared to proceed smoothly but on starting the new Mac I noticed that I did not have any of my emails (client is Mail), nor my contacts.

So what exactly does the migration assistant transfer?...

I am also looking for the User/Library section and cannot find it. On my old machine all the email attachments where stored there. Has the folder structure changed that much? (and can you point me to some article that illustrates the changes between the 2 OSs?)

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Library Folder Is Missing?

Apr 23, 2012

I just noticed that my Library folder is missing from my home folder.  I have the one on my hard drive but not in the home folder.  I did a search for it and cannot find it.  I went into Time Machine and found it way back in November of 2011....it did not show up after that.  It was about that time when I installed Lion...maybe in that process I lost it from my home folder. If I can't find the missing one....and I can't.....should I restore the old one in Time Machine?  I started to do that but then I got the question about do I want to have it REPLACE the old one (I don't know where the old one is to replace), do I want to save BOTH files, or do I just want to leave the old one.  I would leave the old one if I knew where it was but I don't.  What should I do.....should I check 'replace the old one?"  Then the library folder will be one from 2011.  Does that matter?  I don't want to do the wrong thing.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Some Sent Items Missing In Mac Mail?

May 23, 2012

I have an issue where some of my sent items do not get saved to the Sent Items folder.

The email account in question is a work Exchange Server 2003 one and I have it set up as an IMAP account. I have the correct sent items folder configured so that all my devices (mac at home, iPad and iPhone) all sync perfectly with it. The problem appears to occur, sometimes but not always, in the following circumstances: When I am connected to the work network via ethernet. When the email size is quite large.

Bizarrely when I unplug the ethernet and connect to the office network wirelessly there is no issue. There is another mac in the office running on Snow Leopard (I'm Lion) at it has exactly the same issue.

Needless to say this isn't an ideal situation particularly when dealing with work emails.
