Wanted to love Lion--hate it. I cannot run many of my programs for my students that I have invested a lot of money into because"Power PC Applications are not supported." Also, my students are network users--every time they log in to the network at a different computer, they have to reenter the iWork SN. It's a nightmare for a teacher with 300 students to help.I want to take my new iMacs running 10.7.3 and back them down to any version of Snow Leopard I can get them to. I can't clone them with Migration Assistant--the iMac running Lion just will not start with the older OS.

Anyone have any idea of a feature that was originally going to be in Boot Camp, allowing it to switch very quickly between a hibernated version of Windows and a sleeping version of Leopard, is gonna be back for Snow Leopard?
Apparently the feature was dropped before the final version...
This would've been awesome, would love to see it back...

I was just wondering, in preparation of Snow Leopard, what would be the best way to backup? Should I restore from a TM backup, or should I copy my files and data to a external hard drive and then put it back on my computer?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy question is as simple as that. Is it possible to go back to an older version without the updates? Still Snow leopard.

I recently bought the Mac Box Set for Snow Leopard and I was wondering if I should back up my computer first or if it's safe enough to just go ahead and upgrade? Would everything disappear, like iTunes, iPhoto, etc?

Is it possible to go back to using a previous version of OS X once I've upgraded to 10.7 without doing a new install? My daughter wants to use a game (Roller Coaster Tycoon 3) that won't run on 10.7 based on reviews on Amazon.

I have had Snow Leopard for a while now but recently I realised that there was one feature I didn't seem to have....and that is put away. It just does not show in the right click menu on any of my items in my trash. Option clicking the file also does not show this menu.

Backed up my macbook air using time machine to my time capsule. Then went into iphoto and backed up pictures just to make sure. (They are all the pictures of my 6 and 2 year old since birth, very important to me). Opened time machine to make sure that my pictures had backed up, they were there and I figure everything is good.
I install Snow Leopard and after rebooting all pictures are gone. My iphoto library is gone. I went from 49.68 gig of used storage space on my hard drive pre-Snow Leopard to 17.92 gig of used storage space on my hard drive after installing Snow Leopard. I get kind of hacked off but figure there is no big deal since I know that my photos are in my Time Capsule. I go into time machine and there are 0 jpegs, 0 iphoto libraries and no pictures of any kind other than icons.
I freak the heck out and just plain don't understand. I call Apple 2 hours on the phone yesterday and 2.5 hours on the phone today and I am told that it is a problem being passed onto the engineering department and that they will get back to me but most likely the photos are gone and they are sorry. 3500 photos of my children's lives eaten by the dang Snow Leopard.
This is unacceptable, I did everything right in this instance, backing up my things, even spent the extra money to buy the time capsule, from apple, to make sure my backups went flawlessly. Got an appointment with the Genius Bar at the local retail store for Sunday but I was told today that they will more than likely not be able to help and will just add to the notes on my "Case" with apple.
I'm trying to install Snow Leopard with my "Mac OS X install DVD" to my friends's Mac, I have a MBP and he has a MB, will it work?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an external HDD hooked up to my iMac. It's from Freecom, and I believe it contains a Seagate ST310005 disk. I formatted the disk, and set up Time Machine. It seems to go well, TM makes the first back-up without any problems. But, even though TM is turned on and set to back things up, nothing I put on my PC after the initial back-up gets backed up. I put a folder on my desktop, put some files in it, and they are nowhere to be found in the TM back-ups.

When I update my software (using system update), the computer updates perfectly. However, when the update is completed, the computer turns itself off, instead of restarting like it used to.
After this, when I hit the power button to turn it back on, the power light comes on, but then it turns itself back off again. I usually have to hold the power button in for about 5-10 seconds, and repeat this a couple of times to actually get it to turn on.
I have also noticed that a file in the recycle bin called "recovered files" is being created after the process.
A while back, I made the huge mistake of hitting the power button in the middle of an update (eeeek!) and I think this may have caused the issue.

I am using time machine to back up to a time capsule, two different macs (a laptop & a desktop). The time casule is connected to the network & the desktop backs up fine. The laptop did as well up until a few months ago, now the laptop fails each attempt to back up.
The problem may be temporary. Try again later to back up. If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk.
Latest successful backup: 11/16/11 at 10:24 PM
I have tried to repair the laptop backup volume with no change. I do not really want to reformat the entire disk as it is working fine with the desktop.
I randomly clicked on rebuild and all my emails disappeared. I didn't have tons but maybe 30-50 emails. Where are they? How can I get them back?
