OS X :: How To Use Hdd As Camera Storage

Jan 7, 2010

I was wondering if it is possible for me to use my Olympus Stylus while it is hooked up to my computer. I don't have a memory card for the camera and wanted to do a time lapse from my window.

MacBook Air :: Realization - IPhone Storage Versus MBA Storage?

Jan 10, 2010

I thought I would share a cool realization. I am now eligible for any iPhone upgrades and most likely will be getting the new one coming out this summer - whatever it may be. I realized today that most likely it will have 64GB of storage - the exact same size as my Macbook Air - I think it is so wild my future phone/pocket computer will have the exact same storage capacity as my main laptop. I could potentially mirror everything on my Mac that is on my iPhone in the future.

ITunes :: Changing Storage Location With Media In The New Storage Location?

Jun 30, 2012

Equipment: Mac Mini (Early 2009), Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Lion. I started noticing my Mac Mini was having trouble reconnecting my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, slow processing (spinning pinwheel of death), and programs freezing. I did a recovery within Lion from the recovery drive and it seemed to work for a week or so. It started acting up again. So, I decided to erase the HD and reinstall Lion. I basically use the Mac Mini as a server for all my iTunes content.

My iTunes default save location is to my Drobo storage unit. Now that I have reinstalled Lion, I am looking for the easiest, most convenient, and safest way to change the default save location in iTunes and then importing the media. It would be nice if it was possible to just simply change the default save location to the folder I previously had all my media saved in and it would just magically appear in iTunes. Everything was organized perfectly, which took hours of time and attention to details.

PowerPC :: Using Additional Hdd For More Storage

Nov 6, 2006

I'm thinking of adding another Hard Drive to my Powermac, I'm looking for 7200rpm, and somewhere upwards of 300GB. At present I just have the 160GB stock drive in it. So here are a few questions;

How often are HDD's updated by manufacturers, and should I perhaps wait till the next major update to get a bit better value.

Brands, I hear seagate, western digital are good, i'd be glad to hear others opinions though.

I'm thinking of using the additonal HDD as a place to store my collection of DVD's (mostly in divX format) as well as using it to record TV to (it comes in as a DV stream, so need ~13GB/hour of TV. So it isnt really urgent that I get it now, but I'm thinking sometime in the next few months.

Mac Pro :: How To Know About SAS Drives And Firewire Storage

Feb 25, 2009

If I decided to end up going for a Mac Pro with pure speed, I would want to fill it with 4 SAS drives. I've heard that SAS drives are completely unrivaled in speed (15,000 rpm ), but does this really correlate to high speeds? Is Apple's RAID card the best solution for SAS drives? I would likely use RAID 5 setup for striping benefits as well as data redundancy.

Now, I'm a bit of a storage junkie, and SAS drives won't be a viable storage solution for everything I have already (and even more in the future), so external storage would be a must. I have a drobo already, and it is a much cheaper solution than getting something like an Xserve RAID, and firewire 800 is plenty fast for streaming video, even to multiple sources.

OS X :: Can Use External HDD An Photo Storage

Apr 29, 2009

A year ago I started getting a "start up disk is almost full" message. I got an external hard drive and set up iTunes so all of my music went directly to the external drive. That worked for a while. Now I'm getting the message again. Can I do the same thing with iPhoto? So all of the photos that get loaded onto my machine automatically go to the external drive? I can't remember how I set it up with iTunes. Also I don't think podcasts are going to the external, only music.

I'm planning to install it to my Mac Pro as a boot drive and use my 1TB WD 7200 RPM as media storage. Do I have to do like RAID or anything to 2 of my disks or I just simply do a fresh install on the SSD and copy all my media files to the 1TB HDD?

OS X :: Setting Up My Mac Pro As Server Storage?

Jan 10, 2010

I'd like to get them properly set up and organized. My first goal is to work from ONE main computer, I've juggled too many computers and I want to simplify my set up. My 15" MBP will be my work/pleasure, use everywhere computer.I'd like to set up my Mac Pro to work similar to the HP Media Center. I want an 'always on' computer/server for working files, downloads, back up etc. Some suggest I buy an HP media server, it's ready to go out of the box, comes with a url for web access etc. But, I'd rather set up my Mac Pro to for this purpose.I have two video cards in the Mac Pro so I'm going to hook one up to my 24" ACD and get an adapter to HDMI so I can run directly to my 65" Panasonic TV as well.
* Or can I do this wirelessly, I realize I can, but am confused on the best way to go about it.

Free Up Storage On Mackbook Air

Mar 17, 2012

I have been trying to free up space on my macbook air all morning and haven't gotten anywhere.I have the 60GB 11inch version with OS 10.6.8..Finder says that I have only 900 MB remaining.I deleted about 8GB of TV shows and movies from iTunes directly from the folder, removed from trash and there was only about 1MB of change to remaining storage.I am using filevault, but cannot turn it off because I do not have space.Time machine is turned off - I have never specifed an external hard drive, so it it has never been turned on. Though the icon appears on the top.The size of the sparcebundle is 42GB, but the contect on the filevault account only reaches about 30 GB.I downloaded tinkertool and did not find any strange hidden files.I tried to repair and verify the disk using disk utility - no change

Intel Mac :: Running Out Of Storage

Jun 4, 2012

I have a 21.5 iMac with an i3 processor and 500GB hard drive. Unfortunately I am running out of internal storage space and I was wondering what options I have for upgrading the storage. I am also going through my photos (in iPhoto) and videos (in iMovies), deleting the ones I don't need. I also have a 500GB external hard drive with the purpose of backing up my iMac (via Time Machine). I can think of the following options and I was wondering what people think about them and if you could share any feedback / ideas? Internal Upgrade: Can I upgrade my storage internally on my iMac to another 500GB (i.e. 1TB in total)?External Upgrade Scenario 1: Purchase a 500GB external drive and save my iMovie and iPhoto library on it. Purchase another 500GB external hard drive as back up (via Time Machine) Question -> Can I run 2 back ups at the same time via Time Machine? One for my existing internal storage and another for iMovie and iPhoto library on the external 500GB hard drive.External Upgrade Scenario 2: Use my existing 500GB external hard drive (which I currently use to back up my iMac) and reformat it to save my iPhoto and iMovie library. Purchase a 1TB external hard drive to back up both my internal storage (500GB) and external storage (500GB). Is this even possible with Time Machine?

Macbook Pro Is Out Of Storage Space

I take tons of pictures and that is what's sucking up all of my memory. I currently have a 2011 Macbook Pro OS X Lion Version 10.7.4. 4 GB memory 2 GHz processor. Now that I look at the "About This Mac" it says all of my storage is "Other" with 0 KB in everything else like photos and apps which I know is false. Anyway, what should I do? Should I go to best buy and get a bigger memory? its currently 500 GB & 499.25 of that is filled up... What could I delete to free up space? Should I partition my photos onto an external hard drive?

OS X Yosemite :: Loss Of Storage Due To OTHER

Dec 1, 2014

Loss of storage. I have listed below a summary of my hard drive:

15.02 GB free of 59.44 GB
Other:  36.33 GB
Apps:  6.52 GB
Photos:  1.02 GB
Audio: 458.9 MB
Backups:  51.8 MB
Movies:  46.8 MB

I had downloaded a few films accidently onto my hard dive rather than an external drive, after deleting them from the hard drive I noticed that the "Other" had increased significantly.

Hardware :: Set Up Network Area Storage?

Sep 24, 2009

I am looking to set up network area storage at home rather than have all my files jamming up my Mac Book hard drive. I'm considering one of two options but I am pretty new to network area storage and therefore after a bit of advise. My personal computer is a Mac although I use a PC laptop for work, both will need to access the networked hard drive. At this stage I just want to store files and itunes but may, in time, wish to stream video content to my TV. Option 1 is to purchase a network area hard drive such as buffalo link station. Option 2 is to purchase an air port extreme and attach a hard drive via USB. This option is slightly more expensive however I am wondering if the benefits of the airport will provide a faster connection?

OS X :: External Hard Drive For Storage?

Oct 7, 2010

I just bought an external hard drive (My Passport for Mac) because my Macbook's hard drive is almost full. I did not want it necessarily for backup purposes, but rather I wanted to be able to store music, docs, etc. that I might want to access in the future, but want to remove from my computer for now.

Should I use Time Machine? Will time machine let me access my hard drive to obtain certain files when needed? Or is Time Capsule's sole purpose to backup everything on my computer?
