I deleted several folders and photos from my computer. I've emptied my recycle bin a couple times. I want to restore what I had deleted. The problem is that I've got 100's of folders and I don't remember exactly what I deleted. How do I view the trash in time machine so that I can see what I had deleted and restore it. Every time I open up trash and click on time machine it opens as my user folders and not trash.
I have done a search but my problem differs in the large number of files I have. Basically I dragged 6 months of time machine backups into the trash rather than doing the delete through the time machine itself. Now I get error messages (error code:-083, I think) and cannot empty the trash. What is more, I have over 2 million files in the trash from the backups. Either I individually delete files in the trash (without having to empty the whole thing). I also can't just erase and reformat my external hd as I do not have a drive of sufficient capacity to copy everything over and don't want to buy a new one.
Alright, here's the situation. I have a 1TB external set up with 250gigs partitioned for backing up with time machine, and the rest just for storing files. My time machine partition was full so i decided to move the 5 oldest backups to the trash to make some more room. But when i went to delete trash it counted up to a couple million files and just sat there saying preparing to delete. It was never able to actually start deleting the files, it was just preparing to delete for a couple hours.
I have a 500GB external harddrive that uses TM and have recently wanted to free up some space, so stupidly I manually moved a ton of the backups (I can't even imagine how many gigs) to the trash. The trash bin now can't even fathom the amount of space and literally doesn't empty itself (it goes to like 140,000 items to delete and just keeps going). So I read that you're not supposed to delete TM backups this way but now I'm kind of screwed because I can't move the files from the trash to the External again cause it takes too much time. What the hell am I supposed to do?
Time machine keeps sending old boot.efi files to my trash, and am unable to delete them, maybe because they are locked? should I unlock them and if so, how? should I delete them and if so, how?
I made the mistake of deleting an unwanted set of Time Machine backups using the finder. Now I get an error message when I attempt to empty the trash. I have tried operating in safe mode and using option+empty, but neither works.
I understand there is a command that one can issue in Terminal to erase those trash files, but I wasn't able to find it.
Time machine back up files will not delete from my iMac trash as i do not have permissions i have owned the computer from new
The files are on my external hardrive. A virus was detected by bit defender in my back up files on an external hard rive that may of came from my old windows computer.
I moved the time machine back ups to the trash but now can not delete them. Ihave tried holding the option key whilst selecting the empty trash but this did not work. It states i do not have permissions for files
Time machine back up files will not delete from my trash
I am unable to "Enter Time Machine" to view previous backups! Time Machine continues to make backups, and I can access other preferences and options but clicking on the Time machine icon in the dock or in the applications folders does nothing!! How do I remedy this - I have repaired permissions but am wondering do I need to reinstall Time Machine? If so how do I reinstall Time machine?
My macbook pro laptop recently died and I am trying to access its time machine backup data through Finder on a different computer. In each one of my folders from different dates, however, the majority of the computer folders I would like to access (i.e. desktop, documents, dropbox, etc) have a little red "no" sign in the corner and prompt the following message when selected:
"The folder “FolderName” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents"
How can I gain permission to see its contents? As the former user, I know whatever passwords are restricting these files, but I don't know how/where to go to give permission to these folders. I've tried going into Disk Utility and changing the permissions there, but to no avail, despite successful changing of the "Sharing & Permissions" to "Read & Write" for all listed accounts.
I'm currently trying to view this on an imac OSX 10.6.8. The dead MacBook pro ran OSX
I know there is the shortcut to empty the trash; Shift-CMD DELETE, but I would like to view the trash before I do this. If there is no Shortcut, is it possible to create one?

Using snow leopard, I have a recent problem. When trying to view a pdf file in safari, I get the message to upgrade to the latest version of adobe but I do have the latest version.
I have tried to send the plugin to trash as suggeted here but still no luck.
I was trying to set up my Time Machine to an external hard drive. I didn't continue because it asked to "initialize" the hard drive which I had a lot of important things on.
I have another external hard drive I'd like to use but, my Time Machine has this error code of -43. What is this and how can I use my Time Machine on another external hard drive?
can't open the program time machine located in the folder /applications/time machine anymore, message says program ain't working for unknown reaason, but I still can open time machine in the menu bar. any clues what the trouble might be? and/or is there any way to reinstall time machine only on os x 10.7.3?
btw., on the system backup hd which is a mirror of the imac system, the programm still works
I cannot enter the time machine when I press the time machine icon. I press and nothing happens, so I'm not sure even if it is backing up at this point. When i go to my Tme Capsule it has the folder there for back-ups and the most recent, but no access from the icon.
I just replaced my HD on my 15"MBP. The install went well until restoring my data from Time Machine. The apps came over fine but none of my data did. Yes, I checked all the boxes on the "restore from backup" menu.
Of course now when I start up time machine the backup isn't there. How do I get Time Machine to recognize the backup? I have it on two places - a time capsule and a separate external HD.
Have installed an 120GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 2010 but have had a couple of problems. Sometimes when you try to enter time machine and or Finder the machine freezes. Also the only way out of this is to hold the power button down and reboot. I have been informed by Apple that there are slight differences between the 2009 and 2010 models. Another odd thing is Skype will not load up automatically on startup, despite making sure this option is ticked. Most other things seem to work. Reinstall original hard drive and all OK.I have tried this with OCZ and Crucial SSDs and get same result. I have also installed the SSDs by cloning and by direct original OS X disk.
I have my data saved on an external hard drive (OS 10.7) as I sold my previous Mac and am thinking about buying a power pc iMac using Leopard - does anyone know whether this will be able to open and transfer my data to the older Mac?
I was wondering if it is possible to view the contents of my Time Capsule online? I always bring my MacBook to work and watch videos during my lunch hour etc and it would be nice to connect to the Time Capsule so I have my entire library available. If it isn't possible then I will just continue to pull shows off the Time Capsule back to the MacBook.
My 2008 iMac with OS X 10.7.3 crashes every time I play a Flash video, or access a website that uses Flash. The problem is persistent in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox, with and without 64-bit mode enabled. I have updated to the latest version of Flash. I have also checked for a number of known trojans that might be messing up my system, but I am clean.
The problem started four days ago. Prior to this I have had no issues with the machine, now it crashes consistently on viewing Flash.
How to view two clips at the same time with 50 % transparent each (end of one clip and the starting of the next clip in time line) so that one overlapping the other, both can be seen. This is to merge two clips, so that I can stop at the correct frame of the first clip and start at the appropriate frame of the next clip.
Yesterday I used Migration Assistant to recover the contents of a failed MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) from a Time Machine backup to a new MacBook Air (10.7.4). Using the same external disk for backups, I now have a folder for both the old and new machines in
/Volumes/time_machine/Backups.backupdb/
The instructions here

explain how to reconnect time machine to the old machine's backups. Once I've done this and checked that I can access the old backups, can I simply delete the new machine folder to save space?
I have a question about websites view default. Where I can fix it. I mean every time I open facebook or other websites like yahoo, twitters etc. It's always zoomed in so I have to zoom out every time! I know I can put two fingers on the pad and zoom in and out but I want it fixed everytime I open it so I don't have to zoom out everytime.
Is it possible to view the notes pane and the email pane at the same time? I keep notes about each project I'm working on so it helps to have them up as I'm replying to emails and setting todo's. If this is not possible, can I move notes out of Mail?
I have been running Time Machine on my iMac since I got it. I installed server and now I notice that the server app has Time Machine as well but its turned off. My oringinal Time Machine in system preferences seems to be running like it always has. What is the difference between the two?
For some reason, the time of my events stopped showing in iCal. I get the event, but the time doesn't show unless I click on the event. The time does show in week view, but I prefer to use month view. This has not been an issue in the past, so I don't know what happened or if I clicked on something accidentally. I tried going to iCal preferences, but I don't see anything that allows me to select "show time in month view" which has been suggested by other usI'm using OS X Yosemite.
I have an external 500gb drive plugged into my brand new Time Capsule. The 500gb drive basically stores my entire library of music and my iTunes points to this external drive.
Is it possible to have time machine backup all information on the 500gb drive to the time capsule, so encase the external drive takes a dump, I don't loose my entire music library? Maybe time machine is already doing this, I am not sure.
