OS X Tiger :: How To Transfer Entire System Hard Drive To Another On The Same Computer

My system hard drive is starting to crash. I cannot use Migration Assistant to copy it onto another drive on this machine. How do I transfer everything onto another internal hard drive? Just copying will lose some secret stuff, I'm sure.

IMac :: Swapping Hard Drives - Transfer Entire Contents Of Old Hard Drive On To New
I have a Imac 20 with a small 3.5 hard drive and I have bought a bigger 360 gig 3.5 hard drive to replace the old one. I have the new one in an external case with USB 2.0 right now. Is there some way I can transfer the entire contents of the old hard drive on to the new one and then swap out the old drive with the new drive and not miss a beat?

OS X Leopard :: Restore Entire System To New Hard Drive?
I'm wanting to upgrade my 13 inch macbooks hard disk as I've run out of space. What I want to know is if I can restore the entire system to the new disk via my time machine back up, so I'm still keeping all programs installed etc.

If this is possible, the other thing that worries me is I have a couple of programs that are only registered to be used on one system (eg Logic studio). Will these still work if I put everything on a new disk?

OS X :: Transfer Hard Drive From System To Another
I upgraded the hard drive in my 2006 model white MacBook. It now has a Western Digital WD3200BEVT... 320GB 5400rpm. I recently purchased a new 13 inch MacBook Pro, and would like to put the Western Digital hard drive in the new MacBook Pro. Both computers have Mac OS X 10.6.2 installed. My plan is to open the MacBooks and put the WD into the MBP. I'll boot from the reinstall disc that came with the MBP and install without formatting.

MacBook Aluminum :: Best Hard Drive Transfer Options In A System
I just purchased a new and larger hard drive for my MacBook. I was wondering what the most efficient way to transfer the data would be. 1. USB2.0 from my current set up to the new hard drive and then replace the drives.or2. Backup my current drive to my TimeCapsule, replace the old HD with the new one, then move everything back to my new drive via ethernet.

MacBook Pro :: Cloning Entire Hard Drive To An External Hard Drive
Recently I bought 2 identical WD Scorpio Blue 1TB hard drives for my macbook pro 13 inch 2010. My aim is to replace the internal hard drive with one of the two I just purchased and use it as my system drive with Lion, Windows and Data partitions. And for the other hard drive I want to use it as a full disk back up for the internal drive (now 1TB hard drive). After I was done with setting up both windows and mac and data transfer, when I booedt into the recovery partition from the internal drive to clone the drive to the external drive, the disk utility gave me this error (Could not validate source - error 254). I also tried using Carbon Copy Cloner but it only could clone partitions, not the entire drive. Yesterday I downloaded a copy of Clonezilla. It worked fine until it had to clone an exFAT partition (my data partition). The exFAT partition appeared as 'RAW' partition in clonezilla. As a result, the whole partition appeared to be full and clonezilla had to copy every single blocks of data in that partition and the estimated time remaining was about 30 hours. So clonezilla is out too. Just want to ask if there is any program/application (bootable or not) which allows can do a full disk clone to an external hard drive.

OS X Tiger :: Getting My Computer To Recognize An External Hard Drive?
This may not be a networking question... I have an external hard drive that my computer sometimes recognizes and sometimes doesn't. It seems that when I get it to "see" it and then eject it I am unable to get it to find it again. I have tried unplugging, both from the computer and from the drive. I also tried rebooting the whole system. Nothing seems to work!

OS X :: Why Does A Full Network Drive Slow Down The Entire Computer?
I know how to fix this problem, I was just wondering if anyone knows WHY it happens.

I have a network drive that I use on my iMac and every time it's nearly full, my WHOLE machine becomes unusably slow. I mean, even opening a finder window can take up to a minute. Just deleting a couple of files off the network drive will fix the problem. Unfortunately, it can take up to an hour just to delete a file because everything is so slow, including the actually deleting of the file.

I don't have an system files on the drive, just a bunch of video files and personal documents.

I was just curious why the network drive being slow would impact the whole system? It just seems weird to me.

Intel Mac :: Its Just Deleted Entire Main Hard Drive?
I was trying to do some tasks in Windows 7 in VMWare fusion and it was a little laggy, so I shut down the VM and restarted my mac. It took a little longer to restart than I'm used to, but when it came back on 99% of my main hard drive is now gone. All my bookmarks in safari, user accounts, most preferences are still here but all files are gone. How could this have happened and is there any way it can be reverted without a time machine back up? It's a mid 2010 21" iMac i3 8GB ram with Lion installed all newest updates have been done prior to this happening. I don't even know what to do, so much has been lost.

If so, where would I get an inexpensive one? I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. MacBook Pro :: Boot From "copy" Of Entire System On Old Drive?
I had a hard drive failure in my Powerbook. I had "copied" ,not "backed up" with backup software, the entire contents of the hard drive to an external one. So i installed a new drive, installed OSX from the cd onto it in a smaller partition. Started up, copied the entire contents off the external drive onto the larger part of the partition. My thoughts were to keep the newly "installed" OSX software/system separate from the "copied" OSX software/system by partitioning it. What i wanted in the end was to be able to boot from my "copied" system and be back where I was a month ago, and disable/trash/whatnot the "installed" system that was just to get it up and going. I'm running 10.4.11 on the G4 1.67 Powerbook. So, how can I boot from the original hard drive contents? It doesn't recognize or give a choice for the copied hard drive contents with the copied system and all, just the "new" installed system.

Right now TM is backing everything up on my 500GB and it's full. I bought a new hard drive today(1.5 TB) and would like that to be the new drive TM backs everything to. How do I do this so TM is not effected by me changing the destination of where to back everything up to? OS X V10.7 Lion :: Sharing System Preferences Freezes Entire System
I recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!

I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?

I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!

OS X :: Ability To Transfer Files From Backup Drive To New System?
I've been a Mac user for about 2 years now. It's a great OS. I currently have a 2008 (quad-core) Mac Pro that I will be selling to a friend. I've been saving up some money and will be buying an iMac (with money from Mac Pro) and a Gaming PC with my saved money. My Mac Pro currently has three drives in it - a 230GB drive with the OS, Apps, Music, etc; a 500GB drive with Movies, Photos, etc; and another 500GB drive with Windows 7 and games.

I have all my Mac files backed up onto a 1.5TB external drive (of which I have less than 1TB filed). My question is about file transferring. Will I be able to transfer the files from my backup Mac Pro drive to the new iMac? It has a 1TB drive so space isn't a problem. I'm just kinda worried about how the files will be transferred since it was copied from two drives and is going to be copied back onto a single drive.
