OS X :: Snow Leopard Upgrade Will Delete Everything On Computer?
Jun 14, 2009
I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard and iLife '09, but if I do that, will everything on my computer be deleted or everything that is compatible with snow leopard still work and not be deleted after upgrading? Some details about what happens when you upgrade.

I have on tow differnt Mac' both running 10.8.6 and Office 2011.I get a message and I delete it from the inbox (POP accounts with my ISP, on my own domain), and next from the deleted items folder. so far so good, message (should be) gone forever. Now if I do a search (via the Mac find function) for the message it shows up as being in:/Users/e/ Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/Name of User/Data Records/Messages/ 0T/0B/0M/13K/x00_13558.olk14Message. The last item being the message.I can open it by double clicking and there it is in its full glory. If I do a search within Outlook it shows up but has no folder located to it, so I suppose it 'finds' it in the same folder where the Mac finds it.Using the find inside Outlook I can find them, delete them again and find them again, etc. Now, not only does this bloat the storage space needed (account now bloated to 1.5 Megabite), but it is also unpleasant (security) to know that they are still there. After all why otherwise delete anything?is this normal, and the second question is, how to set Outlook up that it removes these messages permanently? I had a thread about this in the MS Outlook forum but had no luck there. url...it be interesting to hear if any of you can recreate the problem, to exclude it being a unique problem on both my machines.
- Create new account in Outlook (same problem)
- Rebuild database
- Upgrade to latest Outlook version, followed by again
- Creating a new account in Outlook (same problem)
- Rebuilding the database

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

I'm currently using a MBP 13 inch and am running Leopard on it.
I just bought a copy of snow leopard today but i don't know if I should do a direct upgrade from leopard to snow leopard, or wipe my MBP and do a fresh install so i have snow leopard on a clean slate.
Have any of you tried the second option before? Or do any of you have advice on which path I should take?

I am curious about the system requirement of Snow Leopard. Since the performance and speed are better on SL, I think Snow Leopard will consume a little bit more resource of our macs., although I know Snow Leopard is just only the refinement of the software.
So, my question is that WILL YOU UPGRADE YOUR RAM OF YOUR MAC?

I've recently acquired an iMac and wanted to upgrade to Lion, however I believe I need to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard first - which could prove to end up costing a fortune! I've read recently that Apple are offering the upgrade to Snow Leopard free of charge for MobileMe users, however when I've followed a link to fill in a request form, this just takes me to the Find My Phone feature on iCloud.Â

My brother and parents have a Mac Mini each.
They have not the latest generation but the prior Intel generation -- that shipped with Leopard.
Being the family IT guy, last time I was in town I purchased the Snow Leopard retail DVD family pack upgrade and upgraded my parents machines to Snow Leopard. I couldn't upgrade my brother's mini because he had it away at school.
Now he is back at my parents house (as am I) and I was all set to upgrade his machine to Snow Leopard but I can't find the retail install disk I purchased.
However, I do have the Snow Leopard Mac Mini OSX install DVD that shipped with my recently purchased (latest generation) Mac Mini.
Question -- does anyone know if I could use this latest generation Snow Leopard Mac Mini system install DVD (the one that shipped with my mac Mini) to upgrade my brother's previous generation mac mini running Leopard to snow leopard.
Not looking to do a clean install but rather the upgrade.
Anyhow ever tried this? I obviously don't want to upgrade his previous generation machine with drivers, etc. for my latest generation --- rather JUST get his leopard upgraded to snow leopard.

I have mac mini (early 2009) running leopard and want to upgrade to snow leopard. I've bought a disk from a local store and when I try to install I get as far as 45 minutes to go when the installer reboots the computer and says it will continue to install after reboot. So it reboots kicks the disk out and reboots back into Leopard. The Apple site says it is probably a bad disk, so I got another one, still does the same. Apple also says it might be the dvd drive, I have no other issues with the drive, it installs the original leopard disks without problem, it reads video dvd's without problem, it verifies the snow disk as perfect.

iMac with 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, plenty of space available and currently operating 10.5.8. Now I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard and since my Mac Mini came with it, I attempted to use the OSX install disc from the Mini in the iMac. I don't see a reason why this shouldn't work. There's no DRM or anything as far as I know. I'm just trying to bridge the gap so I can download Lion. I've looked into some of the advice others have given on this subject but my computer doesn't have those issues. I've tried booting from disc but I get the same message.

Will there be such a thing as a Snow leopard upgrade with iLife and iWork 09? If not what is the cheapest to do: Buy Mac Box Set as normal or buy each separately with the Snow Leopard upgrade for $29?

I have the latest and greatest 10.5.whatever and while I bought and own the new 10.6 DVD I have yet to upgrade. The primary reason is that I use PGP to encrypt my disks and it is not compatible with 10.6 so I'd have to unencrypt and uninstall PGP Full Disk Encryption. (And that takes DAYS!). Plus, I use Adobe CS3 and I understand that has hiccups with Snow Leopard as well. If you upgraded, would you do it again? To be honest, I bought the upgrade because it was cheap and I like to have the latest and greatest but while this is the latest I'm not sure this is the greatest. (I don't even know what the upgrade offers me!)

How many of you are just fine using 10.5.8 and find no need to upgrade to Snow Leopard? This reminds me of the company I work for which has all company PCs running on XP and refuses to upgrade any company computer to Vista for the time being. I know, I know, Mac OS is way better...but I've read about incompatibility issues and it makes me wonder, what's the worst that can happen if I decide to wait a good 3-4 months to do the upgrade?

So I have 2 issues. My first one is that when I upgraded to Snow leopard, i cannot use safari. it says I have v4.0.1. and go to Apple store and download it though I'm a little confused and don't wanna mess this up. Also on my desktop I have a copy of the Applications folder and an Applications alias?? I tried putting just the app folder in the trash but then I can't open anything up. I usually just go through the finder and through Mac HD to find stuff for now as I'm new to Mac.
