OS X :: Safari Crashing When Get To MacRumors And Type
Nov 22, 2008
Throughout today Safari has been constantly crashing. It will just shut down and I will get the "safari has encountered an error" message. Just to get to MacRumors and type this, it has crashed 3 times. On the error screen, I've selected to repair settings, did almost everything there is to do in OnyX (repair permissions and all safari settings), and checked for updates. I'm feeling really annoyed here as 80% of my computer usage is the internet, and not being able to get to a site without Safari crashing is just not cutting it. I'm using FireFox for now, but would rather be back on Safari.
I visit macrumors and the forums almost on a daily basis, and since the day i got safari 4 i've been trying to add it to "top sites" section.... it just wont happen :/ i really dont understand what's going on... oh and Quote:where is Web Clips ?tryied to add one to my widgets and the button is nowhere to be found..... is there any way to add the site that YOU want to top sites??? or is it just based on visits.... which doesn't make any sense at all to me.
Alright I just picked up a new Macbook Pro from school today, and all my apps keep crashing, Safari, Chrome, System Preferences, you name it..... I've done a bit of search on the two codes I'm seeing and guess it might be the NuRam (8gb) I just put into it. Just wondering if there is anyway I can test the ram before I call them up? Just as a heads up these are the codes I'm seeing: Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS
I am creating a photo book on shutterfly but it won't let my type in the text box on the page. When I start typing it automatically types in the Google search box.
In Safari 5, I've noticed that in the address bar, when you type "wiki" and then something after it, it'll search Wikipedia for that particular item. Is there any way via extensions, or something along those lines, to make it work similarly with other "keywords" or what have you? Chrome essentially works this way with any search engine you like, and it's literally the only reason I'm still on Chrome rather than Safari full-time. And before anyone mentions it, I know about Glims. But I don't just want multiple engines in the search bar; I really like the utility of just typing in the address bar.
I've just switched to Safari instead of Firefox (I don't exactly know why, just giving it a go) and I have noticed that when I open links in Forum Spy, they open in a new window in Safari, not in a new tab like in FireFox.
So I was using Safari this afternoon, even though I usually use Firefox or Chrome. It crashed again on me and a box appeared that said it may be due to the WCIDEngine Plugin? When I read the problem details to send to Apple, it said "EXC_BAD_ACCESS for exception type, and then for exception codes it said "KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at (some numbers I'm not copying over). Worse yet, it reminded me that I've had 7 crashes since last report. I'm getting awfully tired of this crap. I run a PC that's on Windows 7 and it runs like a charm. I am seriously thinking about going back to it because I got my Mini with the expectation that it would work and most of the time it does, but it's little repetitive things like this that make me question it. I will add that I scrolled down the problem details list and it said that "Thread 0 Crashed" and then proceeded to list a number of things about symantec, like .com/symantec.WCIDEngine".
I've had my macbook pro for about 2 years and any time i would type into the search bar of safari it would always come up with a google search. recently it is coming up with a yahoo or bing search and not google. my settings for safari have it set to google as the default search engine so I'm not sure why this is happening.
Well trying to access the site forums i keep getting 404 bad request i am using mozilla by the way. my mac mini running mozilla can access the site my laptop running xp can access the site but my desktop running vista cannot at the moment any ideas on how to fix this oh and this is what the error says your browser sent a request that this server could not understand. size of request header field exceeds server limit could deleting the cookie fix the problem an i can access the front page with the rumors are. oh if this is in the wrong place move it
Finally the new iMac have dropped - what would be the MacRumors suggestion for general family video editing? Essentially I just want to be able to edit some family videos, create some DVDs on iDVD and not have it cug on me. Will the Nvidia 9400M suffice or do I need the ATI 4670?
I was trying to add a Glims custom search engine for MacRumors forums. However, the search URL doesn't actually have the search terms in it, it comes up as [URL:...] with a string of numbers at the end. As a result, the standard Glims method of making new engines doesn't work. Does anyone know of a way to make this work?
I'm going to jump off a bridge if it keeps crashing on me like this. The worst part about it is that Safari doesn't have a feature that brings your tabs back if your browser crashes. Anywho, I tried reinstalling but I don't think that helped. I also tried clearing everything under preferences but that didn't seem to work. It's the most annoying when I'm watching YouTube videos in full screen and then once the video is over, I get that rainbow ball and next thing you know, Safari crashed. Does anyone know anything else I can do? I don't feel like switching back to Firefox. I love Firefox, but not as much on the Mac. And I think Chrome is just meh, I don't like Google that much since they're involved with almost everything.
Just did update to Safari 5.0 via software update. G4 Dual 867 OSX 10.5.8. Crashes every time I attempt to click on any link. Starts to connect, Beachball-crash. If left idle, without clicking any link, still crashes after less than a minute. Fixed permissions, re-installed with download from Apple site, permissions again..... no difference. Disabled Click to Flash, Ad Blocker...same thing. Just won't work!!!
Safari keeps crashing on open (it doesn't even start to open - just goes straight to crash report). It seems to be doing this since I upgraded to 5.01. I have posted the crash report below which is always the same - ie it crashes on thread 3 but I am unable to decipher why.
I repaired the permissions a number of times - and rebooted. This worked once and safari was up an running again. But the next time I came to open it it was broken again. I have even tried a reboot into safe mode which I believe rewrites all permissions rather than just repairing them - didn't work!
For a while now, the Safari 5.0 browser on my wife's MacBook Pro has been slow and sluggish with repeated crashes. So much so she started using Chrome.
Within the last week Safari on my MBP has been doing the same. Unreliable, slow, sluggish and crashing.
Using Safari 5.0.2 and crashing constantly when trying to print a PDF file out of the browser. I am using the Schubert-it PDF Viewer to view and print. Sometimes it crashes when I merely click on the print icon on the website or after the PDF file opens up in a separate window and click the print button on the separate window. It has also crashed using different printers.
Could someone take a look at this crash report log and see if anything looks weird. This just started happening, so I am not sure what I did.I have it attached as a doc file since it was too long.
Safari 4.01 keeps on hanging, not crashing as such but wait for ages and may or may not come to life after that, reported the bug several times to Apple.
I had no trouble with the 3.x versions of Safari, but once I downloaded and installed Safari 4.x 50% of the time when I browse a basic website or I am in the middle of filing out a form my browser crashes, then I get three options which is to Quit, Ignore, and restart the browser. I always choose to close and then I relaunch the browser on my own, but has anyone come across this before is it just me, I need to solve this issue quickly.

I installed the new release of Safari today and, while it runs fine on my Intel Macbook, it's a disaster on my G4 Powerbook. Pages either half-load before freezing or load fully and then freeze. Buttons become unresponsive, though i can still quit with the File menu. With three tabs open, the browser crashed completely and quit (several times). Has anyone else experienced this? I'm using a G4 15" Powerbook with a 1.2GHz processor and 1GB memory (which should be more than enough, according to Apple) *update: i just noticed the problem goes away if I disable Javascript... but this isn't exactly a solution.
