Applications :: Picture Enlargement Shows Exclamation Mark
i cant seem to find the culprit. When i open a album and click a picture to enlarge it, instead of it enlarging a big black exclamation point comes up with a grey circle around it? Is there a confliction with the location of the file or something? Has this happen with anyone else? If so please share your experience.

OS X Leopard :: I Can't Use An Exclamation Mark?
I was playing a game that involved the shift&option key to change text into weird shapes and such. Well I think I pressed some combination of buttons along with 1 and now I can't use the shift+1 key to make an exclamation mark. All the other Shift+# combinations work fine, but I seemed to have deleted or locked that shortcut some how.

Snow Leopard :: Exclamation Mark On Wireless Icon
I have a MacBook 5,2 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 Ghz 2GB Memory running snow leopard. I connect to my personal wireless at home and a wireless at my university campus (set-up on campus). Since my upgrade to snow leopard I have had no issues at home however on campus the wireless icon shows an exclamation mark with a message on the drop down menu "alert: no internet connection". this happens on my university campus only (at least so far).

The strange thing is the internet is working and I can browse/download etc. I have contacted the IT department on campus and they have said the issue has only started with people with snow leopard and have no idea. To clarify, the internet is working but I am being told it is not (on campus only, not the case at home). It is not a huge issue as I can access the internet but the exclamation mark is driving me crazy and cannot find a solution.

OS X Leopard :: Mail Alert With Triangle Exclamation Mark With IMap?
I have one Laptop (Macbook mid-07) on Leopard 10.5.6 and a Macbook Pro 09 on Leopard 10.5.8. I just switched over to iMap where I have two email accounts set up on both laptops. Both laptops have identical accounts set up on them.

I'm currently geting the triangle with the exclamation mark alert on the inboxes of both accounts when both laptops have Apple Mail open. Is this an issue with Apple Mail or my Service Provider possibly complaining that I have too many connections? I don't get these alerts when only one laptop has the Mail App open. The alert reads:

Alert

There may be a problem with the mail server or the network. Check the settings for the account "IMAP" or try again.
The server error encountered was: The attempt to read data from the server [URL] failed.

However, Mail seems to send and receive okay with the alerts popping up and so I'm not sure if this alert is anything to be serioulsy concerned about. Or, is there a way to fix this?

Intel Mac :: Exclamation Mark / No Wi-fi
Our computer shows an exlamation mark and can't conect to wi-fi. It has always been in this location (two years), we haven't added any other wireless devicess to our home. It can see our network with all four bars as a strong sygnal but doesn't want to conect. When I move my iMac to the kitchen it conects right away. I don't need a computer in the kitchen. Apple support wasn't very helpful. We upgraded our internet, bought a new router, extended the network with Airport Extreme, re-installed the system (10.7.4) replaced airport card in our mac. The same problem - exclamation mark, no wi-fi.

Applications :: Big Blurry Exclamation Mark
I finally went out and bought iLife '09. So far it was great, I love iMovie, but I opened iPhoto because I needed to grab a couple pictures for an iDVD menu. I clicked on an event, and I saw all the photos in that event. All good. But when I go to click on a photo, it gives me a big blurry exclamation mark I looked into it further, and it seems like all of my events from 2007, and only 2007, are corrupted like this. What happened? Can I recover the photos?

Server V10.5 Leopard :: Software Update Server Crashing - Exclamation Mark?
I was having trouble with the last dozen or so software updates not downloading - they just showed up with an exclamation mark in the leftmost column in Server Admin. Since this was originally a 10.4 server that got updated to 10.5 over the summer and was eventually brought up to 10.5.7 I figured something might have gotten glitched up and reformatted the boot drive and installed from scratch. But that was one heck of a mistake since I can't get ANY updates to download and am actually seeing logs in CrashReporter for the swupd_syncd service.

The machine is a Dual 2GHz G5 Xserve with 4GB of RAM. Boot drive is a mirrored 80GB drive and there is a separate data disk taking up the last drive bay (250GB.) Both Ethernet ports are bonded together in a link aggregate for additional speed on the internal network. After loading 10.5 cleanly I downloaded the combo 10.5.7 Server update and applied that. I then used Software Update (from the Apple menu) to download the other updates, and that all seemed to go fine. Had to manually download the 10.5.7 Admin Tools though.................

ITunes Mac :: Music Library With Exclamation Mark In First Column
I wanted to share some insight into this problem. I have many songs stored on a NAS on a network. The NAS has a built in ITunes server (I forget the protocol but it is 'ITunes compatible' so if your NAS box says this on the cover, it's probably running the same software.) What this means is that your ITunes can see the songs simply on starting ITunes. If you have to mount the network drive as a separate step to see your songs, then it is not running this software. Anyway I added my songs to iTunes on a mac without copying the files to the local hard drive. Everything was fine but when I started iTunes the next day and tried to sync, it couldn't find the songs.

They were there in my music library with exclamation points next to them in the first column. The exclamation points can be made to disappear by playing the song or by 'getting info' and clicking ok. (Unfortunately, you cant do this to more than one song at a time and have it work). I quit iTunes and then mount the NAS on my desktop by going to 'Go->Network', browsing for the NAS and connecting to it. Restart iTunes now and all the exclamation points are gone. Apparently, the exclamation points appear when the Mac OS cannot find the songs using the standard network protocols (smb, appletalk, etc.). The iTunes server software that is running in the background on the NAS is not recognized by the network browsing code in the Mac OS, it is only recognized by iTunes.

ITunes Mac :: Exclamation Mark Next To Podcast - Update Stopped
I don't listen to most podcasts on my computer, I listen to them on my iPhone, and I copy episodes that I have subscribed to from the iTunes library on the computer into a playlist on the iPhone. Because of this, for some (but not all) of my podcasts, I often see an exclamation point in the left column when I display them in the main window, and when I click on that, a window pops up and says that iTunes has stopped updating those podcasts because I haven't listened to any of them recently; do I want to resume updating?

This is annoying, and I want to globally let iTunes know that I want to keep subscribing until I tell it to unsubscribe, and don't try to think for me, thank you (if I want a program that incorrectly thinks it knows what I want to do more than I do, I'll go to Microsoft). Is there any way I can do this and avoid dropping my subscriptions or having to do these waste-of-time clicks? I can't find anything in iTunes prefs about this.

ITunes Mac :: Trash Empty - Exclamation Mark On Tracks
I deleted my trash because it was 60GB and it's caused me quite a few problems. A number of exclamation marks have appeared in iTunes and when trying to search for the original file to mend the broken link, the track is grayed out in Finder. I'm presuming this is because some of the tracks were somehow linked to what was in my trash. I guess I could use Time Machine to restore iTunes to what it looked like last week (pre-trash deletion). Would that work or would I need to restore the whole of my trash for that too? If I try to restore iTunes via Time Machine, what folder do I restore - is it "Music" or something else?

Applications :: IPhoto 09 - Modified Pictures Show Exclamation Mark?
Earlier today I copied my iPhoto library file and the iPhoto prefs file to from my Mac Pro to my MacBook (using Chronosync's "mirror" option), for a week away from home.

I've now come to using iPhoto on my MacBook, and noticed that the thumbnails for my modified pictures had reverted to thumbnails of the originals. Clicking on any of these modified images just brings up a large exclamation mark on a grey circle background.

I know that this normally means that iPhoto cannot find the relevant file in the library (usually because someone's been messing around in the library - which I haven't; I took a mirror image), but the odd thing is if I click on "Edit", the image I'm then presented with is the modified image, so it's still there and iPhoto damn well knows it.

I've tried opening iPhoto with alt-opt to get it to rebuild everything, but it hasn't made any difference.

Software :: Deleted ITunes Library - Exclamation Mark On Each Song
My computer had barely any space on it, so I was deleting as many things as possible. By accident, I deleted my ITunes library (1898 songs)I didn't delete it from ITunes. I deleted it from applications, then ITunes drop down menu, then all these artists. After that, I emptied my trash. So I have nothing. Now I only have one song on my ITunes, which is the one I was listening to when my songs got deleted. But now, when I go on ITunes, it looks like I have all my songs, except there are small little exclamation points next to each song. When I click a song to play, the song cant be found.

Final Cut Pro :: AVCHD - Red Exclamation Mark At Log And Transfer
I have a question related to an AVCHD issue, well not really a question but just want to be sure about something. I have an (already) old G5(Dual 2GHz). It has installed Final Cut Pro 5.04. I shot a few videos for a project that I'm doing with a Canon camera which processes everything directly to AVCHD. As you might already guessed I cannot import anything to Final Cut Pro, nor Express in my G5. Fortunately I have a Intel based MacBook.

I got an error when using Final Cut Express...yeah the infamous Red Exclamation Mark at the Log and Transfer. Anyway, oddly enough, I found out that iMovie can do the trick, but to keep the High Def content that I shot, I have to use the "Transform to 1920x1200 (or was 1080?)" when importing from 1080i. Anyway, I got the material, everything is stored on the iMovie folder as MOV files. Although pretty intensive work is done by the G5, it seems that I'm able to import those files into the G5's Final Cut Pro and work from there.

Applications :: Orphaned Files And Repointing Links - Lost Photos And Exclamation Mark?
I browsed the threads on this and many sites before I thought I'd report back on my day with iPhoto - just so that those of you out there can benefit.Basically, and for those noobs that don't know the gen, iPhoto and iTunes both have an interface that work on showing you what you have by way of thumbnail or album sleeve image - then, upon selecting, linking your requirement to see or listen to the actual file itself buried somewhere else. This is a great system for a number of great reasons - that is until your links break. You see a thumbnail of a picture of uncle Bob you want to see so you double click it. You are rewarded not with a high rez image of Bob but instead a rather unimaginative and rude exclamation mark (exclamation point for you Americans). The link is broken - you have an orphaned file. It might not be lost or deleted - in fact it is probably still somewhere on your machine or external drives etc.

ITunes Mac :: Missing File & Dead Tracks (exclamation Mark Next To The Song)
Suddenly all tracks of a particular artists have been flagged as 'dead tracks' (exclamation mark next to the song) Looking in my iTunes file, the artist is no longer there. I did find the music in a newly created folder by iTunes located in; Macintosh HD> iTunes Music. I don't know how but iTunes is creating this new folder just for this artist in this location, with the music files. If I try and re-add the music either manually (placing the music files in iTunes) or via iTunes 'add to library', and I also delete the iTunes file in Mac HD, it just recreates this file and the tracks reappear as 'dead tracks' in iTunes. My main iTunes folder is located in an external hard drive. I originally thought of a corrupt file, but all tracks over 3 cds by one artist only seems strange to me.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Losing Internet Access For IMac - WiFi Icon Changing To Exclamation Mark
For several weeks I've lost internet connection on my iMac every day or so; the wifi icon changes to show a ! and is otherwise greyed out. My internet connection is via a relatively new Time Capsule (2011) which has an ethernet cable connecting it to my Sky broadband router. I moved to this new Sky broadband router in early Jan 2012 (changing to Sky as a Broadband provider) and it works nicely as a router. My iPhone, iPad, AppleTV and a range of other devices (including an Apple Airport Express connected to a Sky TV HD box to enable it to download movies) have continued to work on the internet without problems.

The IP address of the iMac (27 inch quad core i7, 8 GB RAM, fully up to date on Lion) disappears from the Network settings when the problem arises but the connection of the iMac to the wifi (and backing up to the Time Capsule) still works. I can even use a VNC app on the iPad to connect to the iMac on the same wifi LAN when the IP address has gone and the ! is showing in the wifi icon on the menu bar. To get reconnected to the internet, I just restarted the iMac and it was then back accessing the web nicely.Eventually the iMac would not connect to the internet at all. It would momentarily get an IP address from the router and then lose it again. I then tried taking the iMac to the Apple Store.

Various diagnostics run in store at Genius Bar and during the week and the problem (using the same account) was not replicated. On its return home, it was still not working on the internet.I then tried booting into 'safe mode'. This enabled a stable and reliable connection to the internet! After several days in this mode, I re-installed Lion and booted into normal mode again. The problem returned and has been with the iMac since. However, at least a restart of the iMac gets it straight back on to the internet again.I suspect some sort of corrupted network preference file or the like. But where? The disconnection from the internet can happen any time of day; for example it happened while typing this message but more often than not it happens when the computer is unattended.

PowerPC :: Hd Not Picking Up / Grey Screen Shows Up With Icon And No Spinning Wheel
I changed the permissions from read only to read and write on my start up HD and chose the change everything inside option to read and write. After I did this, my secondary HD no longer allowed me to use it saying I did not have permission. When I tried to change it all selections were in custom mode and would not accept my changes. Same with my main HD.

I rebooted and the grey screen shows up with icon and no spinning wheel. I tried safe mode...same thing. I even tried booting off my back up firewire drive and got a null sign on the grey screen instead of an apple icon. Booted up from the G5 disk and tried to run utilities permissions repair and it would not do it, gave me an error, "No valid packages". Ran disk repair and it said nothing needs repairing. I then booted up using Disk Warrior and rebuilt the HD's directory successfully, but still the G5 will not boot past the icon grey screen, no spinning wheel. I'm spinning though...HELP, I'm dying here. FYI this is a G5 dual core Cypher running Leopard with 3.5 gigs of ram. The start up HD is 250 gig and the secondary is 500 gig
