OS X Leopard :: Brother MFC 7420 - How Can I Scan Over The Network Using This Printer
I have a brother MFC-7420 connected to an apple time machine capsule/airport.

The printer is shared amongst users in our office.

Everyone can print to it fine.

But to scan I must disconnect it from the airport and connect it to the computer.

I have all the utilities & drivers installed.

To setup the scanner you must use the control center & device selector.

I know the mdns name of the printer.

The device selector has two options for network setup

How can I scan over the network using this printer?

OS X Leopard :: Brother MFC-6800 Printer Won't Print Except In Preview?
When I use print (using Brother MfC-6800) preview in Microsoft Word (for Mac), I can print a document. A test page will also print from Word and System Preferences. But in Excel, Word, QuickBooks, etc., when I hit the print button, nothing happens. After doing this a number of times, I checked the print queue and no print job is in it. I have deleted the driver a couple of times and have installed the latest drivers I could find from Brother and Apple for the Mac OS X 10.5.6. How do I go about deleting all print drivers and associated files in my hard drive? In the utilities, there is no print setup or print manager. In most cases, I have unplugged the printer when installing other drivers - what other steps should I take? When I tried to use the original disk that came with the MFC-6800, I got a message that I couldn't use it because the Classic environment had been changed. Please tell me how I can get the printer to work. My knowledge of what makes computers work is limited so please put the directions in layman's terms.

My grandfather purchased a Brother MFC-J6510DW all in one printer several weeks ago and since day one we cannot get the thing installed and recognised on his mac.He running an Imac with OS X 10.7. Originally the computer recognised the printer but when we tried to print nothing would happen. We opened up the printer que and noticed that the job had a error but the system didnt tell me what error.I have visited the Brother website and followed the advice to uninstall all the printer drivers and associated docs and then reinstalled the drivers..... Now my grandfathers machine will not recognise my printer at all and when we try to manually search for the drivers (that we have installed) the mac does not load any for this specific printer. Is there anyone out there who can shine a light on our problem)?

OS X Leopard :: Using Brother MFC And Bonjour?
I have a problem with Bonjour with my router... for some reason this D-Link router cannot do multicast across the bridge from wireless to ethernet. I'm hoping to hear back from D-Link support about this, or I'll have to go to another router.

However, even though the mac cannot discover the printer with Bonjour, it can easily ping its ip address and use telnet to connect to the printer.

I recently performed the 10.5.4 upgrade. I believe the problem I am having started then. Applications :: Printing With The Brother MFC-9840CDW?
Recently our Brother MFC-9840CDW has stopped printing.

The item just sits in the printing queue forever while it says "Looking for printer".

And the status button on the printer never actually flashes like it did before when we'd print something.

We have not changed any settings recently, it's connected to our TC's network.

Before we could only print if we were connected to that network also,

But now it doesn't seem to work at all either way.

We just reset it to factory settings, re-entered the info for the network to connect to,

and it's still not working... does anyone know why?

OS X Leopard :: Opening Printer Connection Failed / Unable To Open Printer Connection
I have seen a few other discussions about this and have followed the advice (that I found, perhaps there is some I haven't seen), but I still can't get around this. After a software update my printer now comes up with this error message "Opening Printer Connection Failed: Unable to open the printer connection. Please check your printer connections and check for printer errors". The printer is connected by a USB cord. I have checked that the computer recognises the USB and have also tried resetting the printing system and re-starting the computer and adding the printer again. This has not solved the problem. I am not on "printer sharing". I still get the same error message when I try to print.

OS X Tiger :: Apple CUPS Printing To Brother MFC-465CN Via Ethernet (Via USB Works)?
Hi, I have a Brother MFC-465CN Color Multifunction printer. This printer has worked fine directly connected via USB to my G4 PowerMac running MacOS-X 10.4.11.

Our LAN has become increasingly busy with heterogeneous devices (E.G.: WinTel boxes) which don't like to use Apple Printer Sharing. So, we have re-configured the printer to run over the Ethernet. The Brother-supplied utilities (Brother-TWAIN, Control Console, Status Monitor) are all cool with the Ethernet configuration. However, the Apple/Darwin CUPS print spooler thinks that the printer is always busy, when it's not, and can't send queued jobs to the printer.

The PowerMac is at IP address, it is 100-base-T wired to a Linksys Wireless-G Hub/Router IP, which is also hard-wired to the Printer at IP Again, Brother Status Monitor says - Ready (and it shows the current ink levels), but Apple Print Monitor (MFC-465CN-LAN,, Version 4.5 (161.8) Copyright 2003-2005 Apple Computer, Inc.)
Says, "network Host '' is busy; will re-try in 30 seconds.

OS X Leopard :: Using Image Capture And Brother All In One Printer...
I have a Brother all-in-one printer MFC-420CN. I just upgraded from a PC to a Mac. Almost everything works perfectly...I can print (wirelessly or not), send faxes, and scan using Brother's own Control Center utility. However, I wanted to use the printer also with Image Capture. I downloaded the scanner driver from the Brother site, however when I start image capture I get the message "No Image Capture device connected". If I go to Devices => Browse Devices, I can actually see the printer driver shown as TWAIN Data Sources/Brother Twain, however it doesn't show as being connected. If I click on the "Use Twain UI" button, it brings up a Brother Twain window, but if I click Scan nothing happens. Does anyone know why the mac can see the driver but thinks it's disconnected? Also, under "kind" there's a swirly icon, but I don't know what it means (sorry, Apple newbie).

Snow Leopard :: Cannot Find Brother Printer On Network
Just got a new iMac with SL and connected it to my wired network. I have a Brother HL-1870n printer and this iMac will not see it--even though it's on a simple Ethernet switcher. All the other Macs (all running Leopard) on this network see this printer and the SL-iMac will see it and print to it if I share the printer on one of the other Macs. I have the new drivers from Brother. There are no network problems other than this. I'm guessing it's a driver problem involving Brother/SL/Ethernet.

MacBook Pro :: Wireless Brother Printer Disappeared?
When I first set up this new macbook pro the printer installed perfectly and worked great. Today I hit 'print' and nothing. No printer installed. I'm not a computer guru so I don't know what to do when set up asks for 'machine' ip addresses. What machine...printer or laptop?? Right now I'm very frustrated because it worked great and now, poof, it doesn't. I tried using the install dvd to reinstall the printer after clicking customize it still looked like it wanted to reinstall the whole operating system. Wasn't clear to me at all so I ended that before really screwing things up.

Here's how I'm set up: 13" MacBookPro unibody aluminum, SnowLeopard OSX6, Airport Extreme wireless router, Brother MFC490CW Wireless printer with my wife's intel iMac also connected to the printer via lan cable. I would seriously appreciate some suggestions that I can understand to get this what should be a simple configuration to work and stay put. I suspect it's a simple process but at this point I'm clueless.

Windows On Mac :: Brother Wireless Printer Will Not Install Under 7?
I have a Mac mini (mid-2010), Brother MFC-9840CDW multi-function device (built-in wireless), Windows 7 (64-bit) running on Boot Camp, Windows 7 built-in firewall turned off, Westell router

Brother website, "Wireless Setup Wizard for Windows," dated 2007. I appropriately responded to the prompts, only to have the program end without making any noticeable changes.

Brother website, "Full Driver & Software Package." It could did not find my printer to install. It did see my neighbor's printer.

Called Brother. Factory reset of the printer, printer WAN setup WEP with password, printer setting WAN enabled. When wireless failed, we tried to connect the printer via ethernet cable to the router directly. Also pinged the IP address of the printer and input the IP address in the Brother install program instead of having Windows find it on its own.

Called Apple. The tech did not have a clue. Said she would pass me to a lead/supervisor, but no one ever picked up.

Windows could only see the printer if I connected the USB cable directly from the printer to the Mac mini. But I do not want to run it that way. That's why I got the CDW model ("W" for "wireless"). It worked wirelessly under XP on my old PC that the Mac replaced.

If i select continue, it works on it and then says it is not able to find the software. So i manually went on to the brother website and downloaded the driver. WHen I go back to add the printer it still wants to go through the apple software databse, and as a result I cannot load the printer.

Hardware :: Canon Or Brother Color Laser Multifunction Printer?
I'm trying decide between a Canon or Brother color laser multifunction printer. Quite honestly we don't do a lot of color printing, but I'm so tired of clogged inkjets (can you say Epson) that I'm trying to stay clear of them. A multifunction inkjet would seem appropriate for our situation, but I don't want to have clean printheads once a month. Even if we do get a mutlfunctional laser I still need a a small photoprinter for quick photos prints. My other option is a multifunctional inkjet and then a B&W laser printer. I'm down to Canon and Brother based on the fact both seem to work well with Macs and don't have the bloated software that comes with HP. I can't find any reviews on the Canon lasers since they are relatively new. The Brother machines seem to get good reviews, but quite a few complain about the color prints.

It went extremely slow
iChat would not open

Photo Booth had tiger effects, not leopard.

That's all I checked. I tried re-installing, cleaning my disc, reinstalling again.
I don't have my restore discs. I do not want to use a computer with "Half a OS". And I don't want to pay $150 to get a new disc.

1. Both Macs on. On both Macs, Airport is turned off.
2. A Crossover Ethernet Cable plugged into both Macs.
3. Under System Preferences/ File Sharing is turned On in both computers.
4. Don't know if this is necessary - but under System Preferences/ Security - Allow all Incoming Connections is checked.
5. On the computer that I want to receive the file:
Under Finder/ Go/ I select Connect To Server
6. Then I click the Browse option.
7. The 1st Computer's icon appears in a window.
8. I click on the icon.
9. For a few moments, it says - "Connecting - "
