OS X Leopard :: Finder Relaunching Constantly - Shutting Down - Displaying Blue Screen

my system seemed fine and working ok and then suddenly my finder kept shutting down, displayng the blue screen and then relaunching, then shutting down and continuously cycling through this without any prompt or way of stopping it. I tried to reinstal the OS but it said it encountered unknown errors and could not. I restarted and safe restarted and cd restarted to try to repair the disk but I am considering erasing and reinstalling then recovering from time machine, is this easy? is this the only way?

OS X Leopard :: Finder Relaunching Itself In New User Account
Right well I have on My Macbook Pro (running 10.5.6) a user name Ashley, one named Matthew, and the root user when I need it.
Ashley is fine
Root is fine
Matthew isn't.

In Matthew Finder keeps relaunching itself after like 2 or 3 seconds, wont let me open finder windows to go to ActiviyMonitor. So I thought, okay. I'll create a new user, put all of Matthews personal files into the new user then delete Matthew. Didn't work, the new user has the same problem. Then I decided to test if it was a corrupt file I was sending over. Created a new user. It still has that problem.

The first time i logged in I got an error report saying 'SyncServer' didnt respond and was reloaded. Would you like to reload again, I tried that. Same problem. I do not have the DVD to clean install (its at my course) this laptop was given to me on a course that I must hand back. I know its a software problem but id prefer a way to fix it without having to hassle the people at my course. I am going to try login items on Matthew if I can get on them and see what that does. There is nothing in the new users login items.

Mac Mini :: Blue Screen And Not Shutting Down
1- I will be working on the computer and a blue screen will appear and the computer will restart. This process takes about 30 to 1 minute.
2- The computer will not shut down. I will choose "Shut Down" via the Apple Menu, the screen will default to the grey background I have chosen, all icons will disappear (as expected) and then nothing will happen. The computer stays on and my only choice is to pull the plug.

MacBook Pro :: Blue Screen - All Applications Shutting Down?
Today I closed my laptop to put it in sleep mode, it was not connected to power. I came back an hour or so later, opened it up, and entered my password to log in. It started to log in and then I got a blue screen! In a few seconds it brought me back to my desktop, but all of the applications had shut down and Mail (which starts automatically) was opening and asking me for my passwords. I thought that was weird behavior so I got my external hard drive and attempted to back up my computer. I started Googling the problem and then Safari randomly quit. I tried to email a paper I'm working on to myself, and I got the blue screen again! I plugged my computer in, hoping that would help. However, I got the blue screen two or three times before I was able to get a current backup. Each time the blue screen popped up, all of the applications would be shut down by the time the desktop came back. It definitely seems to be a problem with Microsoft Word. Every time I open it, the blue screen comes up!

Power Mac G5 :: Freezes On Blue Screen While Shutting Down - Stuck On Desktop Image On Start Up
My MAC has been acting bad.

1. It has trouble shutting down by getting frozen on a blue screen.

2. I also have trouble starting up. It gets frozen on the desktop image with
no icons. I start up in safe mode a few times before it will start up correctly.

3. I have had problems with it running sluggish.I notice when it becomes slow, it makes this fan-like-jet-engine noise.

Our computer dude sez I should reinstall Tiger. Do you think this will fix these problems?

OS X Tiger :: IMac Constantly Goes Dark, Then Blue Screen, Then Back To Normal?
My wifes iMac constantly goes dark screen, then blue screen, then back to normal every minute or 2. Whenever she does something like watch videos or chat, and it's pretty darn annoying. I rebooted & repaired permissions & repaired off the install disc & even ran Disk Warrior, and flushed all caches with cocktail.

Why would it do this constantly and what can we do to stop it, short of a fresh install?

Intel Mac :: Finder Keeps Relaunching Over And Over Again?
I recently used a theming application on my iMac called theme park and it screwed up my Mac, when I log in my finder boots up then crashes then relaunches and continues this over and over again, I tried restarting, and logging into a different account and it just won't work, when I try to open up an application it crashes as finder relaunches and a pop up appears saying the application quit unexpectedl, when I right clicked on the finder icon on my dock it says all the options like open folder, then a second later it changes to application not responding. Btw I can't access the "about my mac" pane but I do know that it is an intel based iMac with the glossy white appearance not the aluminum model and I think it's the iMac6,1 I don't have a time machine backup or restore disk

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Finder Flicker On Blue Screen And Restarts Quitting All Open Apps
Finder will flick to blue screen for a split second and restart quitting all open apps. Not restarting the iMac, but just Finder? I've ran Disk Utility and found no problems and also ran a Hardware Test and found no problems. The only indication I have is in Console which without posting the whole log the below lines stand out to me as potential issues:

HIToolbox: received notification of WindowServer event port death.
This line is present numerous times with each application name that was open next to it indicating to me a reason each app has quit?Then a long list of this line repeated;
com.apple.fontd [58544] FODBCheck: foRec->annexNumber != kInvalidAnnexNumber (0)
Followed by:
com.apple.WindowServer[58526] WindowServer[58526] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.

This happened once yesterday and a few times today so it's becoming more regular...

Power Mac G5 :: Finder Refreshing - Relaunching?
Ever since the most recent update - Monday I think is when I installed it - I have been having strange problems with Finder. It is continually refreshing itself, every 5 minutes or so. For example, if I am typing an email, suddenly my email program will grey out as inactive, and Finder will be active. I have to click back into my email to continue typing it. Another example: if I am browsing my files in Finder looking for something, my Finder window will close out completely, as though I had relaunched it. I'll have to re-open whatever folder I was browsing through, and continue looking.

OS X Tiger :: IMac Finder Keeps Relaunching After Transferring Data From Macbook
I've recently had to replace the hard drive on my iMac G5 2.1ghz PPC. I went through the usual steps of booting from DVD, formatting the drive and installing everything. I also went ahead with transferring my data, such permissions, passwords, users, etc., with the exception of Applications from my MacBook (1.83ghz Intel Core Duo). Well, now that I am up and running on the iMac, the Finder keeps relaunching, I ran the Disk Utility and "fixed" everything, but nothing has changed. I opened the Console and it looks like there is some conflict between information from my MacBook and the iMac. "Nomada" is my MacBook, "DOOG" is my iMac...

OS X :: After 10.5.6 Mail Constantly Displaying 247 Unread Messages?
So I upgraded to 10.5.6, and then after reboot mail kept on bugging me for the password of an old account that I had set up a while back that is now disabled. I set the account to disabled and before 10.5.6 mail never bothered me about it, but in 10.5.6, no matter how many times I would hit "Cancel", it wouldn't do anything. So I just went in and deleted the account, then mail said that I have 247 unread messages in my mailbox(I set the total to be all mailboxes combined). However, in all the available mailboxes I have none. I have went through all the preferences files, even tried deleting the preference file and nothing worked.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Finder Not Displaying File Contents
I have dropbox and configured it to show the icon on the tray over the left of my day/time. When I click onto the folder via Finder, I see the folder icon. The "Info" for this folder should allow me to read/write to the folder. However, when I ask to see the contents, I do not get a listing of the files within the folder. I am very frustrated since I have been struggling to resolve this configuration issue out on my own. It is most likely 'user issue' which led me here. However, I am at my ropes end.

OS X Leopard :: Finder Crashing Constantly - Cannot Start Up From Install Disk
Looks like I have a conflict between spotlight and the finder. The spotlight icon is missing from the menu bar and whenever I try to launch an application etc. from the finder it freezes & I get the spinning beach ball. The screen refreshes but the dock remains

I have done all the usual tasks like repairing permissions, repair the disk, rebuilding the memory with DiskWarrior, Mainmenu tasks , Applejack, restarting, Tech Tool Pro etc.

I have tried using the install dvd but I get to the restart page and it reverts back to where I was before and does not read from the DVD so I can't get to the installer. Have tried the disk in the internal and external optical drives without success.

I also can't seem to restore the system with Time Machine because it says to use the install disk which
my computer will not read from the disk.

Short of doing a complete erase, is there any else I can do. The console is recording both Spotlight crashes and the Finder crashes every few seconds.

Snow Leopard :: Finder Constantly Crashes At Startup And No Dock Icons
So everything was running quite well yesterday when apart from running chrome, notes, and vuse, I tried to resumed my vmfusion session and then it suddenly disappeared and then the machine started beachballing which was followed by a finder crash which left me with just my desktop image on the screen and nothing else. After a hard restart, the desktop came back but without any of the icons normally on the desktop and when i wanted to open up an app from the dock, the icon disappeared although the name (for example system preferences) remained.

All the functionality like spotlight and wifi at the top get highlighted but dont work, and then finder crashes again to just show the desktop image and nothing else. This has happened over and over, no matter if I started it in safe mode, repaired permissions, or even reinstalled snow leopard. I don't know what else I can do since it wont even let me start or open any apps or folders. I feel it was a problem with vmfusion messing up with the kernel but am not certain.

Snow Leopard :: Strange Login Screen - Took A Long Time To Get To Blue Screen
I turned on my Macbook running snow leopard this morning and it took a long time to get to the blue screen. After that it went to the stock spacy background of OSX and prompted me to enter my password. I did, but the dots in the password space were much smaller than usual. I pressed enter, but it took me right back to the login screen. I initiated a shutdown from there, but nothing happened. I cold booted it and it came up fine this time. I swiftly changed my password fearing a virus... I know it's unlikely, but my old PC had a run-in with trojans that's still fresh on my mind.. Any idea of what could be going on and should I be worried?

when i went to shut down my imac the apple menu wouldn't show, it was just a white box, i clicked hide + show finder for some reason which brought back the full menu but it went away again. i restarted finder but now when i click shut down nothing happens. im having a panic attack, i really need help, im scared to shut down now because something similar happened about a year ago and my hard drive got wiped. i just don't know what to do, im not sure i have everything backed up, either. im running tiger, but that probably doesn't matter.

i repaired disk permissions, its still not shutting down and finder is persistently unresponsive after re-launching. i verified my disk and it said 'volume bit map needs minor repair', 'invalid volume free block count' and that machintosh HD needs repair.

OS X Leopard :: Mail Keeps Relaunching Itself After Quit
I have this issue with Apple Mail. It launches itself fairly quickly after I log in (no, it is NOT set to do that, Open at Login is not checked) and if I quit the app, it almost immediately relaunches itself again, and again, and again. It is, as expected, independent of the "check mail" setting, and does this even when that is set to Manual.

Which I would expect, as I have never seen the check mail option launch the app. Anyone have a clue as to what this might be? If I did not know better, I would think that someone put a 1 second cron job in to launch mail as a joke (does not appear to the case), but that is how it acts, relaunches right after quitting. Running 10.5.6 on a new Macbook, 2 GB memory.
