OS X Leopard :: DVD / CD Disc Tray Opens At Start Up
Just bought a new Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. works & looks great! However, my CD/DVD tray now opens whenever i startup/restart. OS 10.5.7, PowerMac G5 PPC. It is a windows keyboard, so I didn't/ couldn't use the logitech install CD that came with it. When I plugged in the keyboard, leopard asked me to push a few keys so it could recognize the keyboard. So all's fine, except for the startup tray issue. Information: PowerMac G5 Mac OS X (10.5.7)

OS X :: IMac Won't Start / Running Very Slow
I have the 20inch intel imac running leopard. Out of nowhere it started going very slow, spinning wheel every other click. Then just freezes. And now I can't start the computer again. It stops at the grey screen with the apple symbol like its loading but never does. I've tried unplugging the whole thing then again got a blinking question mark folder. I just keep getting different things. A blank white screen.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Word Document Opens With Markup?
I am using Word for Mac on my Macbook Pro with Lion. Everytime I open a particular document in Word, the view shows Markups, which is really distracting. I can go to View, and get rid of the markup view, but then it shows up again each time I open the document. Also, each time I open Word, every document I have worked on in the last few months opens, too. I close each document individually, using File - Close, which I thought would take care of it. But it doesn't, and all these documents open, instead of just the one document I want open. Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

IMac Intel :: Start Up Noise And Fan Running But The Screen Is Totally Black?
My Mac is the most treasured thing I own and has always worked perfectly since I bought it approx. 2 years ago. Recently I went on a business trip to America from the UK. I left the clock on my mac set to the time in America so my partner could check the time difference. When I arrived home last night with some trepidation he told me it was broken. Well it's not broken it just has no light in the screen. When you turn it on, you hear the start up noise and fan running but the screen is totally black. However when you shine a light on the screen you can barely but just be able to see the icons on the screen as it should look. Its as if there is no light in it, but I have no idea how this just happened. He used his own laptop for the 2 weeks I was away and assures me he did nothing, that he looked on the time and put back to sleep and then the next time he went to check it, the screen never 'woke up'. I really needed to use the computer to upload all my photos taken on the recent business trip as well as to finish the artwork for the business. I only have a few weeks and I'm very worried that I will have to send this off to apple and won't be able to do my work. The back light on the power button also does not seem to be working. No flashing no nothing. When i bought the mac it had a tiny sort of smudge in the top left corner, like a patch of white smoke was trapped in the glass. I have no idea if this is relevant, but now that it is black, the patch seems to look bigger and more obvious than ever. I just wish I'd had the sense to mention it at the time, I did have apple care package but only for a year, which is now run out. Information: imac Mac OS X (10.5.7) intel

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Clicking On Email Icon On Dock Opens Word
This happens when I'm using something other than email or Word, for example, Excel or the internet. When I want to go back to my email, I will click on the email icon on the dock, but instead of popping up my email, one of my open Word docs will appear. Then I click on the email icon again, and the right thing comes up. Â I've run software update and I'm not sure what else to do. It's making me nuts. Sometimes, I might be using Safari and have just taken a screen snap or copied a link and I want to flip over to my email to send it to someone or whatever, and it shows me a paper I'm writing for school or something instead. It's dumb but annoying. Â Info: MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)

OS X :: IPhoto Opens On Start Up - No Device Attached
So lately I've had this issue when I restart my computer: iPhoto starts up and lags the initial start up of my laptop any time I power up. Not sure if this is a re-post, but i've searched everywhere and haven't found an answer on any post. I do run parallels on my laptop, and when iPhoto starts up on a restart it shows it being connected to my Windows HD. I tried renaming any "image" folder within the HD to a different name - no luck! I have no other external USB devices plugged in. I do not have it set to open at login on the dock, nor is it on my "Login Items".

Safari :: It Opens Numerous Windows Upon Running Program
Whenever I to open Safari, over 80 windows open immediately. My homepages are two websties and I'll get probably 30 or so windows with my Home "pages" combination, and then another 50 of windows of sites I visted recently. If I proceed to close the windows out, Would reinstalling Safari work? Or does this look like a virus and should I just restore from my time machine backup? My most recent backup is roughly 1 week old and my external has not been connected since this began to happen. It's worth noting this only happens to Safari--Firefox works perfectly fine. No other odd behaviors (ie. system lag, program crashes, etc.) have appeared. Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

OS X :: Macbook Running Leopard And IMac Running Tiger - How I Can Upgrade Them Both?
I have a Macbook running Leopard and an iMac running Tiger. I am looking to upgrade Leopard to Snow Leopard and Tiger to Leopard. If I were to purchase Snow Leopard and install it on the Macbook, would I then be able to use the copy of Leopard that came with the Macbook on the iMac? I am not trying to use 2 copies of the same thing on different machines, I just want to put a new os on one machine and move the existing one to another.I am reluctant to purchase the Mac Box Set version of Snow Leopard for the iMac because I do not want or need iLife and iWork.

Software :: Word 2008 Crashing A Lot, During Start Up?
Every time I open a Word document, the application crashes during start up, right after you can see the document in the screen. Then the application Microsoft error reporting shows up (see below for the very last error report), I send the error, re- open the document and no problem from there... Other facts: - All documents are in Spanish as default language, Arial font - The application was installed just a couple of weeks ago. Before that, I was using Office 2002 (or 2001?) - I installed excel, power point and word only - Most documents were originally created with the older version of Word

OS X Leopard :: Permissions For Word And Excel Files On IMac From XP
When I change excel files sitting on my iMac (OSX 10.5.6) from my Windows XP SP2 machine across my LAN, I'm presented with a dialog with the message 'Excel cannot access <filename>. The document may be read-only or encrypted'. When I respond to this msg, I get another one 'The document was saved successfully, but Excel cannot re-open it because of a sharing violation. Please close the document and try to open it again.' When I then re-open the file, I get the original messages again and then another 'Cannot access <filename>'. Opening, changing and then saving a Word doc results in the following msg: "Word cannot complete the sae due to a file permission error. (<path/filename>)". This is followed by a dialog asking "Do you want to retry the save?". Saying Yes results in the Save As... dialog. Opening files from the same Mac folder with other applications (e.g., PowerPoint) on the Windows machine works just fine. So, this seems to be a problem limited to Word and Excel. The iMac folder containing the files have 'Read & Write' privileges set for me and everyone. Information: Dual Core iMac 20" (2Gb RAM), iPod Classic 80Gb Mac OS X (10.5.6)

IMac Intel :: Running Hardware Test Or Running Mac OS X From DVD?
I have a 4 year old iMac which is running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and using a wired aluminum keyboard along with a Magic Mouse. I recently had some files corrupted so that when I booted up, the dock would not load and could not run any programs. It appeared to me that Finder wasn't working properly. In any event, I tried to run the Apple Hardware Test from the Snow Leopard DVD by starting the computer and pressing the D key but the computer would not boot off the DVD and continued booting off the hard drive. I also tried starting the computer with the C key to try and do a reinstall of OS X, again with same result. I ended up bringing the computer to Genius Bar at local Apple Store. The tech guy plugged an older styled white plastic keyboard and the computer recognized the D and C keys during start up. He then did a recovery of OS with no problems. He downloaded a firmware update for me to install when I got home. When I tried to install the update, updater said firmware update is not needed. At the moment, I'm in the same position as before. The computer runs fine but I still can not boot off the DVD because the aluminum keyboard's keys are recognized at startup. Any ideas on firmware update to rectify this? Don't have the older plastic keyboard and seems silly to have an old one on hand in case computer acts up. IMac Intel :: Excel And Word Viewers For Snow Leopard
I got a new MacBook Air for Christmas and primarily wish to use it as a "netbook" style device. I receive a lot of Excel and Word documents via e-mail that I just want to look at. I do not wish to nor intend to use the Air to work on these apps, just to view the documents. Microsoft used to offer viewers at their download site; they still do, but not for the Mac platform. In fact their only link for Mac and other platforms on their viewer download page is a broken link, and takes you o their search page, where I was unable to find a current viewer (I found old ones for OS 9, but nothing current). I'm not interested in getting Office (or even OpenOffice); I don't need them. Does anyone know of an Office documents viewer (Excel and Word, for sure; PowerPoint is optional) that works with Snow Leopard? Snow Leopard :: In MS Word 2008, Word Freezing And Force Quit Not Working?
Had trouble this morning getting Word to recognise custom dictionaries. After a few tries dictionaries worked, I made sure that the correct language was being used first. Then Word hung, could not get it to go, force quit worked after a couple of tries. Then Word would not open, so tried restart, that failed - blank screen and nothing, so hard shutdown. On restart, nothing on desktop would respond to mouse pointer (bluetooth mouse)Another hard shutdown and restart, this time iMac responsive. Will not open Word until I've filed this report as I don't trust it to behave.Over the past few days different versions of the above have bugged me, I'm a writer and its frustrating when I'm in the middle of something and Word + SL bug out. Various things (FXXK%$XXT etc) have been said out loud and the cat is now wary of me.

IMac Intel :: Opens New Finder And Highlight Program
If I tried to open an application from the dock, it would open the finder and highlight the program. If I clicked a link in Safari, it would open a new tab with the page. Quick-buttons in Safari were activating other parameters than the ones they were supposed to. (For example, font size big/small were suddenly back/forward commands.) Not feeling at ease for the moment. Possible virus/intrusion? Perhaps a hacker test? Very strange, as I've NEVER had an issue until this moment. IMac Intel :: Randomly Opens Dashboard - No Apparent Reason
We just purchased an iMac after loving our MacBookPro. We're having an issue with the keyboard wherein it randomly opens the dashboard for no apparent reason. Sometimes moving the keyboard does this and random buttons do it as well such as #3, #4 backspace, space, etc. This is quite annoying as when we are typing, we are frequently needing to close the dashboard. This has been happening since we first opened and set up our new computer. We called customer support but they told us we'd have to go to an Apple Store..? even though we purchased it online. This is all so crazy since the reason we bought a Mac in the first place was because they supposedly "just work" and because of their supposed excellent customer service (which I am not seeing with our recent call to customer service.
