Invoking mail.app through other applications tends to result in the "spinning wheel", forcing a force quit.I back up my mail database using MailSteward, so my inbox is fairly small. I've repaired permissions, and even did an archive/install and the behavior persists.

OS X Leopard :: Constantly Getting Spinning Color Wheel?
I have a 15" MBP that is from the late 2006 era. It's the 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo model. A few weeks ago I noticed that it started getting really slow and the color wheel was showing up all the time, taking forever to load anything. I searched around forums and stuff and decided that I needed to replace the HD. So i bought a brand new HD which I installed. Worked fine after that--until now, about 3 weeks later. Now the color wheel is showing up quite frequently (although it isn't as slow as it was, but it is still a big nuisance nonetheless). It will happen at any time, not necessarily when I'm opening a file or doing processor intensive. I also just replaced my 1GB RAM with a 2GB stick of brand new RAM, because I thought it might be that. It hasn't made a difference. When I check the Activity monitor, nothing is hogging the processor at all. However on the RAM tab it shows that ~864MB is active and 655MB is inactive, leaving 200MB wired and 326MB free. I don't know what that data really means, but I can't see anything in the list of "All Processes" that is hogging a ton of RAM. The biggest user was Safari which is 144MB.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Occasional Freeze With Spinning Color Wheel?
I bought my first uMbp the day Snow Leopard came out. Unfortunately, it was not installed on the uMbp. So upon running the mbp for the first time, I proceeded to install SL.

Now occasionally, maybe a once every other day, whenever I open up a few applications like Word or maybe even a new tab in Firefox, everything would freeze and the spinning color wheel would spin for about 30 or so seconds and everything would resume to normal.

Now I ask, is this normal behavior? I have the 2.26ghz uMBP edition with 2gb of ram.

Should I go ahead and do a clean re-install?

OS X Leopard :: Finder Crash - Copying Data - Spinning Color Wheel?
Have posted before. Running OSX 10.5.7 on iMac with 3Gig Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM and 1TB HD.Basically my issue is that anytime I am making a duplicate copy of data (into a diff folder), I get the rainbow spinning color wheel and it crashes.Usually I am copying larger amounts (above 2GB) but this happens for large or small copies.

I am somewhat new to Mac's, so I'm not sure how to troubleshoot.I've had the issue since I bought my iMac last summer, and my warranty is up at the end of June. It has been in the Apple Store twice for HW repair, and they replaced the USB portion of the logic board (found that during HW scan), and the second time, found no issues, but I was able to prove it happened so they replaced the logic board and the HD.Please advise. First time buying a Mac, and I love it.... BUT it crashes more than my PC.

MacBook Pro :: Its Stuck On Spinning Wheel, Apple Logo - Not Responding To Disc?
'Ive had a MacBookPro for about a year and a half - with zero problems to report. But, yesterday, I decided to do a software update for OSX. While waiting on it, I relaized I was running late for an appointment, got impatient and did a forced shutdown (stupid move, I now know). Anyway, upon restarting it, I get the usual start-up chime, then the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel - and then it stays there. I tried putting the operating syten disc in and did a start-up - same results. Ditto for safe start. I also tried to reset the NVRAM, got the second chime, then back to the same. Is there anything you folks can suggest? Is there a way to override this and get back to normal? I hope I'm merely having hiccups related to the operating system. Or could this be a sign of the dreaded logic board failure that I fear?

OS X :: Color Spinning Wheel Won't Go Away In Mac Word?
I just got my imac 21.5 a week ago, and now already a problem. It was working fine until now.

I have been copying and pasting pictures and avatars from forums onto Microsoft office (office mac 2008). And tonight I got the dreadful color spinning wheel when I tried to copy more. I wouldn't go away after 10 minutes, so I restarted the computer. I reopened office, and it still had the wheel. It keeps saying it has to close. Why is this happening? Is it bad to copy and paste?

Final Cut / Compressor :: Long Unresponsive Delay With Spinning Color Wheel On Launch
I'm running FCS3 with Compressor 3.5. After I launch Compressor, there is a 1-2 minute delay before it will respond to my mouse clicks. The Choose a template window will finally appear after the long delay and then Compressor is responsive to user input. The reason why this is happening is because I have six (6), yes 6, external optical DVD and Blu-ray burner drives connected to my Mac Pro through a combination of FireWire and USB. When I turn them all off, the delay and unresponsiveness in Compressor is significantly shorter (about 6 seconds). Compressor tries to scan for all your optical drives upon program startup, and this can take a long time if you have many optical drives connected. This issue does not exist in Compressor 3. This is just a tip for anyone else out there who may have several optical drives connected to your Mac. If you only have one or two optical drives, then you may only see a 6 second delay with the spinning color wheel after Compressor starts up, which is bearable.

When it came back, it was stuck on the spinning wheel and the grey screen. I have booted it from the start-up disk, and ran the repair disk, and its message is stating that the volume "appears to be OK."

I am a novice mac user. this is my first mac. Again my mac is getting slower by the day and i dont know how to increase its overall performance. Is there any simple software that can boost overall performance or will I have to reformat my MBP? I have a 200gb HD with 50 gb free and 4 gb of ram. I thought with that ram i would have a super fast MBP but I dont.

Snow Leopard :: MacBook Freezes At Startup - Wheel Kept Spinning
This morning, everything was just fine. I powered up this afternoon, and the grey screen came up, but the wheel below the apple kept spinning. I forced shut it down 3 separate times and nothing happened. Now, after some efforts, the spinning just freezes after about a minute. I got to boot off the disk once, and it froze during permission repair. I have not gotten it to boot off the again. The wheel keeps spinning.

I've zapped the PRAM - Nothing. I've held down option - It sees the disk, and the HD, but neither will boot. When I tried safe mode, a funny thing happened, after about 5 minutes of holding down shift, the apple turned into a circle with a slash symbol (like you see when you're not supposed to do something), and then the wheel kept spinning.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Shutdown - Blue Screen And Progress Wheel Just Spinning
I upgraded to Snow Leopard and a few days later when i went to shutdown my mac pro after i woke it up, i got the blue screen and progress wheel just spinning. After calls with Apple, running both long and short hardware tests, 3 snow leopard discs, a clean install, 2 upgrades, the tech gave up. The clean install was a bare bones install with no applications installed. I would now have to take it into a repair shop and pay for software tests. This is a one year old mac pro with apple care. I used Time Machine to restore to leopard, and all is ok. Has anyone heard of this problem? I'm quit happy to stick with Leopard, but am upset that an apple software problem has to be fixed and paid for by me. I assume if it was a hardware problem it would show up in Leopard.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Blue Screen And Spinning Wheel At Startup
I had permission problems (locked time machine drive) so I did a full time machine restore.

Did the restart after the restore. Machine won't reboot. I get 'bong', apple logo on grey screen as per normal.

Then blue screen and spinning wheel for approx 7 seconds Then blue screen and black pointer for approx 2 seconds The blue screen spinning wheel / black pointer repeats. Also can't start up from Snow Leopard DVD.

I get exactly the same scenario. I have held down the power key at got the tone. Still won't start. It's an Imac (white one) 1.8Gig Dual with 1.5 gig of ram.

Running Snow leopard. I can see my disc over the ethernet; it is still there as it was sharing with my other machine.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Spinning Wheel While Navigating Workgroup Manager
Being new to Mac as well as Mac Server, I was not sure what to expect, such as how responsive Workgroup Manager should be. My initial server setup left me with numerous spinning-wheel moments while navigating Workgroup Manager. With enough patience, results eventually would display. But something was awry. After plenty of research and head-banging, I finally arrived at a solution. I surmised that a private zone would limit the potential amount of LDAP activity; so, I moved DNS and Kerberos from my public zone to my private zone. I accomplished this by swapping machine records between the two zones. Also, I had compromised /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 and had to reinitialize it; so, I don't know if that step was essential towards my performance improvement. Now, the spinning wheel is a rarity with Workgroup Manager.

OS X :: Unable To Reinstall Snow Leopard / Slow System With Waiting Spinning Wheel
Today, I decided to reinstall Mac OS X Snow Leopard on my iMac, to have a fresh & new copy of Mac OS. I've done this before on my Macbook, and it worked perfectly. The iMac would not read the original Reinstall DVD that came with it. Instead, it would eject it, though it would work it on another Mac. But when I inserted my Snow Leopard disk that I bought separately, it worked.

However, when I entered the reinstall screen, it is extremely slow and I nearly can't use it. I did already use the Disk Utility to erase the hard disk files. So, it is extremely slow, and it wouldn't install either. All I get is the amour of time left, but it doesn't change, just gives me a waiting spinning wheel. It's been stuck on the screen for several hours.

The iMac was bought in January, I believe. What should I do?? This is very weird. Should I take it to the Apple Store, or is there a way to fix it?
