OS X Leopard :: NAS Server - Volume Name Changed

I have a NAS Server and know my volume name is RO-PAY-1 (it should be RO-PAY). Know I have problems with my Thunderbird, the pahname should be: /Volumes/RO-PY/DriveX/StartUp/Thunderbird. I can't manage to change it to the old name. When I go to the NAS Server with Finder I see that the name is not RO-PAY but RO-PAY-1.

With ls -Al /Volumes/ I get this:
imac-van-ronald-ferdinandus:~ ronaldferdinandus$ ls -Al /Volumes/total 40
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 1 26 feb 20:44 Macintosh HD -> /
drwxr-xr-x@ 3 ronaldferdinandus admin 102 23 feb 20:26 RO-PAY

OS X V10.7 Lion :: NAS Disk Name Changed
I use a NAS for backups and external storage. At some time in the past week, my backup operations stopped working, and I think I have tracked down the source of the problem. Somehow, an "extension" got added to the disk name (I did not do this and I am not sure how it happened). The disk name (Cosmos) has not changed, but when right click and choose "get info", in the "Name and Extension" section, the disk shows up as Cosmos-1. Unfortunately, the name is greyed out and I can't change it.Does anybody know how I can remove the -1 extension and change the name back to Cosmos so that my backups see the disk again?

ITunes Mac :: Volume Slider Stuck And Cannot Be Changed
Sometimes I go to my iTunes (8.2.1) and the volume slider is stuck at ~40%. The slider can be moved, but as soon as I release the mouse button the slider reverts straight back to ~40%, and only a system restart can solve the problem. This happens randomly when I am using another application or after waking my macbook from sleep, and is very very annoying. This problem has only happened since I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I can't find anything on the web about this issue, so am scared its because of some hardware issue.

OS X Leopard :: Permissions Not Changed When Folder Copied To Desktop From Server
I am making a copy of a folder onto my Desktop 10.5.4 from our OSX server. The folder on the server is Read Only. When it gets to my desktop it continues to have the same permission. I have to change it's permissions before I can rename / delete / or move the folder ( if I want to do any of this it asks for my use name and password). When I copy it to a Mac running 10.4 it is fine. I can change folder name delete etc. When I copy to XP, same thing, I can rename delete etc.

Server V10.5 Leopard :: Changed Admin Password Now Cannot Login
Today I logged into my server as the user Admin. I then changed the password for the user Admin in the File Sharing section of the Server Preferences app. I then logged out. Now I can't login to my server as Admin using either my old password or new password. I can login as Server Administrator but this logs me in with a new blank User account (User ID: 501, Group ID: 20, Short Name: localadmin, Login Shell: /bin/bash, Home Directory: /var/localadmin). I think I want to be logged into the Home Directory /Users/Admin, but I can no longer login to this directory and thus can't administer the server! I'm nervous about manually changing the Home Directory for the User Server Administrator to /Users/Admin in System Preferences > Accounts > Server Administrator > Advanced Options... as I don't know what damage this might do.

Tried to reset the password in WGM but it still kept refusing to log in, so I just logged into her laptop as admin, and looked at Sys Prefs > Accounts and her user had vanished! the home folder is still in the Users folder so I assume everything is still there, but I can't re add her user account because it says the name is already in use, What can I do? ITunes :: Password For NAS Server?
I having a huge problem with itunes, and after i have been trying to deal with it for the last 3 hours, it's driving me nuts. I have a Qnap NAS server with build in iTunes server, works like a charm on my computer and xbox 360 - at least until tonight. I wanted to access the server on a new laptop, I clicked the nas under shared drives, iTunes prompted for the password and accidentally I mistyped one character but had already checked the "remember password" box, and BAM - iTunes remember the WRONG password and the server won't let me in.. Everytime i click the server from the shared drive, it just load for a sec and throw me back to the main music folder on my computer, dammit. I have absolutely no idea of how I get iTunes to promt for pass again or how I can change/manage password..?! Why is it so hard to make that feature apple? So i REALLY hope some of you have the answers, I'm officially lost on this one.

OS X Leopard :: Getting Server-name From Afp Volume Mount
Hello I am trying to write a script to take the path of a selected file or folder, put it on the clipboard, and make it a PC friendly link/path to email to pc users in my company. We are sharing files off of 3 servers.

My problem is not with the scripting, but with the fact that all mounted volumes from these servers show up only from their mountpoint in the Volumes folder, i.e. /Volumes/DeptShare/Inbox/ and the like. In the "Get Info" Window I can see the servername (Server: afp://servername/pathtofile/etc) but I cannot find any clean way to call that from a script, to tie a mountpoint (Volumes/DeptShare) to the server it's on, if the user has volumes from more than one server mounted...

So my script can't replace "Volumes" with the proper servername.Hope Im being clear, happy to elaborate, much obliged for any help.

Applications :: Using AppleTv With A NAS Running ITunes Server?
I'm currently trying to decide if I'd like to buy a AppleTv as it seems to fit what I would like it to do, but here's my question(s):

Say I have a NAS running iTunes server, for purposes of this question this is the exact one I was looking at (NAS) and I'd like to use this as my main server for all my computers, as in put my library on the NAS so it can stream to any computer / appletv in the house, now will the iTunes server only allow music to be streamed or will it also work with videos etc.

And if this does work, will I have to add the movies / music in iTunes running on a Mac / PC and then sync it to the NAS or exactly how does that work so that it's added to that library?

it might sound kind of messed up after I typed it out, but I'm trying to be clear with what I would like it to do.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Address Panel - Has Functionality Changed Between Leopard And Snow Leopard
Using a 10.5 iCal server we were able, when selecting Address Panel from the Window meu of iCal, pull up the window with all people, locations and resources already displayed. I upgraded to 10.6 on the server and that functionality continued for 10.5 clients but not for 10.6. The 10.6 clients need to enter characters into the search in the address panel... otherwise no displayed data. The server has to be setup correctly so it is something on the client end.

My question is for anyone using iCal server 10.6 in a multi-user environment... is your address panel auto-populated with data or do you have to initiate a search?

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Permanently Mounting External Volume For User Accounts
Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a Mac Mini running 10.6 server. I also have a 1T external USB hard drive. I want to permanently mount this external hard drive at /Users, so all user accounts will live on the external drive. I've been a sysadmin for 20 years, dabbling in Unix the whole time, and this seems to me like it should be a no-brainer. Here's what I've tried: I added this line to /etc/fstab using vifs: UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB /Users hfs rw

I've also tried a couple of variations, using different options (like LABEL and the volume label instead of the UUID, as well as explicit numeric values for fs_freq and fs_passno in the fifth and sixth fields. Regardless, when I run 'mount -av' I get:
GetMasterBlock: Error 2 opening UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB
GetMasterBlock: Error 2 opening UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB
mount_hfs: No such file or directory
mount: exec /System/Library/Filesystems/url.fs/Contents/Resources/mount_url for Network/Servers: No such file or directory

This is nonsense because the drive itself is formatted and partitioned and attached and on and visible in Disk Utility (though not mounted), and the /Users directory exists on the root. In fact, if I execute: mount_hfs /dev/disk2s3 /Users. The volume mounts perfectly! Everything is peachy. Except, as soon as I log off twice, the volume unmounts for no explicable reason. Rebooting the system never automounts the volume like it's supposed to. Anytime automount (or mount, for that matter) fails, this is posted in the console error log: 10/9/09 6:38:59 PMcom.apple.autofsd91automount: Mount for UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB has no path for the directory to mount
And yes, autodiskmount.plist is correct and exists in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration.

So my questions are these:
1. Why does the darn think keep unmounting whenever someone logs off the server?
2. Why does mount -a fail, while mount_hfs works fine
3. What the heck am I supposed to do to get this thing to mount and stay mounted at /Users?

Applications :: Firefox Homepage Changed By Visiting Proxy Server
I was checking out various proxy servers with Firefox, trying to find a fast, reliable server. After testing one, my homepage [URL] came up as an "Apache Tomcat" page. This keeps happening even if I type [URL], it redirects to [URL], which displays the Apache Tomcat page. It says I have successfully set it up, despite never having even heard of it before. I have used the Terminal to check for recently modified files, and have looked through Firefox's preferences. Little Snitch reports no network connections by Firefox as it loads [URL] and displays the Tomcat page. I can still do google searches from the search bar in Firefox.

Below is a transcript from part of the page. I think that there's a UNIX file on my drive that has been modified somehow, but I haven't found it. If you're seeing this page via a web browser, it means you've setup Tomcat successfully. Congratulations! As you may have guessed by now, this is the default Tomcat home page. It can be found on the local filesystem at: $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/ROOT/index.html

where "$CATALINA_HOME" is the root of the Tomcat installation directory. If you're seeing this page, and you don't think you should be, then you're either a user who has arrived at new installation of Tomcat, or you're an administrator who hasn't got his/her setup quite right. Providing the latter is the case, please refer to the Tomcat Documentation for more detailed setup and administration information than is found in the INSTALL file.
