OS X :: Login Keychain Password Reset?
How do I reset my "login" keychain password? I can't remember it. If it needs deleting, I don't have many passwords stored in that since I use Firefox most of the time and it doesn't store passwords in the keychain.

But when I use Safari it keeps asking for my login keychain password repeatedly.

OS X :: Reset Login Keychain Without Losing Authorization For ITunes Purchased Music?
Does the login keychain have anything to do with the iTunes authorization required to play iTMS purchased music? If so, how do I reset the keychain without losing it?

The problem is that every so often the login keychain pops up asking me to enter a password. I've changed it and the keychain did not so they are out of sync. The only solution I've found was to delete the keychain. In 10.4.11 there doesn't appear to be any other way to sync the login password with the keychain password. Furthermore as I do not remember my old dotmac password nor my iTunes Music Store password, and as I no longer have access to either the Music Store nor dotmac, I worry that reseting the Keychain would lose access to all the music I've purchased throughout the years, and that's a lot of money spent for me to lose it.

The problems these brilliant people created are just so stupid I shutter to think what else they're messing up. I realize it's my fault for having to reset the password (even though it's a system bug in Mac OS X), but how do I resolve this problem?

how can I fix this so it doesn't happen?

OS X :: Using Keychain Access - Safari / Keychain Fill Passwords Automatically?
I've never used OSX before about a week ago, but I am picking up on it well (I've used GNU/Linux for almost ten years so I know my way around an operating system). But I don't really think keychain access is working as it should...It's hard to explain. I mean, the way I understand it, shouldn't it be saving the passwords I type into Safari and auto-filling them? Because it only auto-fills some passwords. Paypal autofills, but my bank's website doesn't, and even this forum doesn't autofill. I have to type in my password every time I visit.

Is this working as intended? Is there a way I can get Safari or Keychain to fill in all passwords for me automatically? This is leopard on an iMac G5 iSight model. I did a fresh install like a week ago. Sorry if my question is vague but that's the best I can do with the amount I understand.

OS X Leopard :: Mail Keychain Access ?
I finally got around to upgrading my own MBP to Leopard, everything went sweet except for Mail...

Since the upgrade the Mail.app keeps asking me for passwords but won't write them to my keychain - also it doesn't seem able to access my personal email certificates that I use to sign/encrypt my email.

I've read every post I can find on the subject and tried the following...

Repaired Permissions - no issues here.

Ran Keychain First Aid - no problems found.

Deleted the relevant keychain entries in Keychain Access and then asked Mail to remember my passwords in my Keychain... new blank entries were created, which I could edit in Keychain Access, but Mail fails to read these entries on next launch and asks me for the passwords again.

Moved my entire keychain aside and created a new one... again Mail attempts to write to the new keychain, but fails.. same blank keychain entries as before... same failure to read on next launch

Moved my entire ~/Library/Mail folder aside to have mail create a new one with all new Mailboxes, etc. Still no joy - exact symptoms as before.

Moved my prefs file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) aside to have mail create a new one.. still no joy - same problem occurs.

Read with interest the posting regarding modified applications and inability to access keychain... noted that my pre-upgrade version of mail was running the spamcop plug-in bundle which was disabled during upgrade as it was not compatible with the newer version. So replaced Mail.app with one from a known good system. Unfortunately, problem still remains.

Set up mail in a new user account and it remembers the passwords just fine... which tells me the problem is contained somewhere within my account and is not a machine-wide issue.

Tried restoring my ~/Library/Mail folder from the pre-upgrade back-up I made... only this time removed the spamcop plug-in bundle (by deleting the entire bundles folder) before launching Mail and having it upgrade my mailboxes.. still no joy - exact problem still remains.

Having done all this, I am pretty much convinced that there is something contained within my user account, that is preventing mail from accessing my keychain only I have run out of ideas of where to look... so, if any of you good folks out there can throw me a bone, you'll make a really, really frustrated guy quite happy.

OS X Leopard :: New Passwords Will Not Stick In Keychain
So for some reason, all new Keychain thingies that I add as of late won't actually get added. For example, I added a Yahoo account to Adium and every time it asks me for the password, even though I've checked the 'save password' box and it then logs on. Software update asks for permission to access my proxy server password in the Keychain 50x in a row, and clicking "always allow" has no effect. What is going wrong with my Keychain and how I can fix it? Ideally without having to lose all my Keys...

OS X Leopard :: Prevent The Use Of The Keychain For Certain Users?
I manage many machines for a school and need to know if there is a way to prevent students from being able to select "Remember this password in my keychain." on the screen to authenticate to that folder on the server. The students are saving their passwords and this is causing a problems when another student uses the machine. It is automatically connecting to the previous students folder not allowing the next student to connect to their folder. This is a security issue also allowing other students to delete files from folders on the server that is not theirs.

OS X Leopard :: Using EToken With Keychain For Authentication?
I take security seriously but constantly having to key in my password when the computer wants to access Keychain is annoying. I don't want to compromise security so I was thinking whether it is possible to buy one of those cryto-USB/Smartcard gadget things and get it to work with Keychain? Like so long as it is inserted the keychain is authenticated and when it is removed it is locked. Does anyone have any experience setting up something like this?

OS X Leopard :: Login Keychain Messed Up
My son has an account on our computer, and recently he may have done something (neither of us is sure what, and he's unlikely to admit doing anything anyway) that seems to have made his login keychain out of sync with his account.

The symptom that occurs is that he goes to check his mail and the Mail app pops up a dialog box asking for his login keychain password, I presume because his mail account login credentials are stored there. Now, this keychain is supposed to be opened up automatically when he logs in so that it doesn't have to ask for this (I've checked the setting), but it does anyway. If you type in the login chain password, it then continues on and does its thing correctly until the next time he checks his mail.

So, it seems that whatever is supposed to keep his login keychain open is not doing so. For a while, his login keychain password was unknown to us as well but we managed to reset it. I'm not sure what the keychain password is originally when the account is created, but now it won't let us set it to be the same password as his account--the system says it's not secure enough.

OS X Leopard :: Keychain Forgets Password?
I have an iMac and a Macbook. Both work fine with wifi internet connection - most of the time! Sometimes the Macbook will drop out. When it does, it keeps dropping out. I go through network preferences diagnostics and find I have to type in the password to my home network (freebox in France). I tick the "remember password in keychain" box. Everything connects up just fine and then after a short time (a little as two minutes sometimes), the network drops out again and I have to go through the same procedure, typing in the network password again.

It's like my Macbook checks all the time the connection and then sometimes just forgets the password and the keychain is broken. This never happens with the iMac and the Macbook can go several weeks without it happening. When it starts happening, it goes on for a few days like that and then seems to click back into normal mode for a few weeks. I did an Onyx maintenance yesterday but it is happening again today.

OS X Leopard :: Turning Off Autofill - Using Keychain?
I'm selling my mac to a friend and have been altering preferences and files for him. Even after changing the user name when I go to change preferences again the old name is autofilled in the 'Name' box.

What I want is for either another name to appear or have no name come up. Any suggestions? I tried to mess with keychain a bit but that doesn't seem to work

Lately I've been getting frustrated with my keychain. When I enter passwords, I check the box asking to remember the password in my keychain. Some passwords just won't stick, specifically my gmail password in mail and my mobile me password in iChat.

I've tried resetting my keychain and the problem persists.

FYI: I was syncing keychains through mobile me between my MacBook Pro (which has the problem) and my iMac (which has never had this problem), but I turned off syncing thinking that was the issue. It wasn't.
