MobileMe / Sync :: Access Item Restricted And Can't Even Unlock Keychain
i have been using mobile me for keychain sync in 10.5 and from the day 10.6 was released until today without issues. today the keychain items on my mac pro are restricted in access, the ones in my macbook pro are ok.
i tried to verify and repair the keychain, but it found no problems, so i tried to lock and unlock it, and boom! it doesn't unlock anymore, nothing happens when i click, mobile me now says my password is incorrect, and since it can't access the keychain it can't even accept a password. i tried rebuilding the permissions but nothing happened... i have time machine backups of the keychain so i am ok, but this situation is terrible... and online nobody seems to have a fix

MobileMe / Sync :: Keychain - "access To This Item Is Restricted"
I have synced my keychains between three computer during about two years, both with .mac and MobileMe, under Tiger, and also under Leopard after upgrading from Tiger. But now, no matter what I try, I cannot get it to work anymore. The problem occurs after I clean install of Leopard on a new disk in my PowerMac, as well as on a brand new intel iMac. I tried it with 10.5.5, and gave up. Now I tried again with 10.5.6, and it is still the same. The problem: any item that is synced from another computer becomes unaccessible. If I try
to read the password, a window pops up saying "access to this item is restricted". If I click on the tab "access control", the box "Allow all applications to access this item" is checked, and furthermore there is an additional line saying "Access to this item is NOT restricted". All other keychain items (the ones that work) have the box "Confirm before allowing access". So I tried checking that box, and clicked "save changes". Then I go back to "Attributes" and once again I am prompted to save my changes. I click save, get no warning, but when I go back to "access control" nothing was changed.

I have tried keychain repair, but without success. I have also reset all my MobileMe syncing a few months ago after a few catastrophic events with both Calendar and keychain syncing. The former is now working again. Is there anyone who is succesfully syncing keychains between two Macs, with at least one cleanly installed version of Leopard? Since it works on upgrade installations, there must exist a fix, right? For me at least, this problem is 100% reproducible on two distinct computers, one ppc and one intel, so it is hard to believe that it has not been fixed yet...............

OS X Tiger :: Keychain Access Wants Permission To Use Item
In my keychain I have many many logins saved -- mostly from internet passwords. There are also passwords saved from various WiFi networks. However, the password does not always work. For example, I just set up a router and put in the password. I went to see how it looks in the keychain and it said: login, system and x509Anchors. The network name was found under the system section and the lock is open. But when it asks me for a password to access the item to 'show password' it says my password is wrong.

In every other instance, I use the same password (my account password) and that works. Why not this? This has made me crazy since the inception of keychain. What the heck password do they want? The message is slightly different. Login passwords say: Keychain access wants permission to use the XXX item from your keychain. Please enter the keychain password. (no problem with that). But for the WiFi's which are under system, it says: Keychain access wants permission to use the XXX item from your keychain. Please enter the keychain password. But will not let me in, says it's wrong!

I'm looking for some way of restricting access to specific external IP addresses at specific times of the day / week. My objective is to set up a schedule for times when the children can access specific internet games (World of Warcraft, Call of Duty).

Is there a straightforward way to do this - either via an app or possibly messing around directly with the Mac OS X firewall?

OS X :: IBook 10.4.11 Login - Restricted Access?
I set myself as the owner on my iBook the other day. Now when I start the computer, I get a black terminal screen as a login screen. It asks me to type in my username and password. It lets me type in my username, but when I try to type my password no characters show up, and it won't let me log in due to incorrect login information. Since everyone except me, the owner, has no access, there is no other login screen and it's just blank until I restart the computer and get the black screen over again. What do I do? Why aren't characters showing up when I type in my pass? I tried plugging in a third party keyboard but it didn't make any difference.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Access Lost Keychain / Keychain Cannot Be Found For Safari
I'm sure this is a very basic question, but having just made the Mac switch a week ago...I am lost. when I did a forum search, I found out how to access keychains, but I'm not sure if I found something particular to my question- please forgive me if I overlooked something.

I was downloading microsoft software last night and all of a sudden I began getting these little pop-ups that say "A keychain cannot be found for safari" with the option to cancel or reset to default.

how can I fix this so it doesn't happen?

Applications :: Safari Asking For A Password To Access The Keychain / Keychain Can't Be Found
Safari keeps giving me popup windows saying a keychain can't be found. It's only just started doing this but it's really annoying. Could it have anything to do with the fact I installed a new flash player? That's the only difference I can think of.Also on another computer it keeps asking for a password to access the keychain. It only does this on one user account though. Any assistance is gladly accepted!

OS X :: Using Keychain Access - Safari / Keychain Fill Passwords Automatically?
I've never used OSX before about a week ago, but I am picking up on it well (I've used GNU/Linux for almost ten years so I know my way around an operating system). But I don't really think keychain access is working as it should...It's hard to explain. I mean, the way I understand it, shouldn't it be saving the passwords I type into Safari and auto-filling them? Because it only auto-fills some passwords. Paypal autofills, but my bank's website doesn't, and even this forum doesn't autofill. I have to type in my password every time I visit.

Is this working as intended? Is there a way I can get Safari or Keychain to fill in all passwords for me automatically? This is leopard on an iMac G5 iSight model. I did a fresh install like a week ago. Sorry if my question is vague but that's the best I can do with the amount I understand.

OS X Leopard :: Mail Keychain Access ?
I finally got around to upgrading my own MBP to Leopard, everything went sweet except for Mail...

Since the upgrade the Mail.app keeps asking me for passwords but won't write them to my keychain - also it doesn't seem able to access my personal email certificates that I use to sign/encrypt my email.

I've read every post I can find on the subject and tried the following...

Repaired Permissions - no issues here.

Ran Keychain First Aid - no problems found.

Deleted the relevant keychain entries in Keychain Access and then asked Mail to remember my passwords in my Keychain... new blank entries were created, which I could edit in Keychain Access, but Mail fails to read these entries on next launch and asks me for the passwords again.

Moved my entire keychain aside and created a new one... again Mail attempts to write to the new keychain, but fails.. same blank keychain entries as before... same failure to read on next launch

Moved my entire ~/Library/Mail folder aside to have mail create a new one with all new Mailboxes, etc. Still no joy - exact symptoms as before.

Moved my prefs file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) aside to have mail create a new one.. still no joy - same problem occurs.

Read with interest the posting regarding modified applications and inability to access keychain... noted that my pre-upgrade version of mail was running the spamcop plug-in bundle which was disabled during upgrade as it was not compatible with the newer version. So replaced Mail.app with one from a known good system. Unfortunately, problem still remains.

Set up mail in a new user account and it remembers the passwords just fine... which tells me the problem is contained somewhere within my account and is not a machine-wide issue.

Tried restoring my ~/Library/Mail folder from the pre-upgrade back-up I made... only this time removed the spamcop plug-in bundle (by deleting the entire bundles folder) before launching Mail and having it upgrade my mailboxes.. still no joy - exact problem still remains.

Having done all this, I am pretty much convinced that there is something contained within my user account, that is preventing mail from accessing my keychain only I have run out of ideas of where to look... so, if any of you good folks out there can throw me a bone, you'll make a really, really frustrated guy quite happy.

OS X Leopard :: Everything Wants Access To The Login Keychain?
Starting today, it seems like everything on my macbook wants access to the login keychain...

"Safari wants to use the 'login' keychain."
"iCal wants to use the 'login' keychain."
"netauth wants to use the 'login' keychain."

This is causing problems for a couple of reasons. First, I never knowlingly created a "login" keychain. Secondly, I am unable to unlock the login keychain (my user account password didn't work and I have no idea what else it would be). I have run the Keychain first aid, both verify and repair. It says that there aren't any problems.

OS X Leopard :: Keychain Access And Association With Certificate
I hate to admit being less well-versed in the Keychain than I ought to be, but I just don't usually pay it much attention. I don't trust it with any of my really important passwords, but not for any real reason other than that I don't know enough to know how safe it is. I just got a couple certificates for a couple e-mail addresses through Thawte, and now find myself with several questions:

-How secure is the keychain that unlocks at login? Assuming that I have logged out, is there any way for someone who steals my laptop to get access to the stuff in that keychain? I would hope that resetting the account password would not also reset the keychain password!
-In Keychain Access, I see two public keys, both simply titled "Key from thawte site", with no other identifying information. The private keys are similarly titled, but seem to have an association with the certificate that has the email address as its name. How can I tell which public key goes with which private key?
-If I want to distribute my public keys to colleagues, on a web site or via email, how do I do that? It looks like I can export to a .pem file (the other options are grayed out) which contains an RSA Public Key block. Do I just email/upload that file, or the text, or what?

OS X Leopard :: ActivCard USB Reader 2.0 Not Recognized In Keychain Access
My husband works on a MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core Duo w/ 1 GB ram on 10.5.5. He had been on 10.4 but his hard drive died and with the new hard drive, we've upgraded his OS too. The only problem is that he's in the Navy and needs to use this CAC reader to access his email and a number of websites. It was working fine on 10.4 and he used ActivCard Gold for the Mac. I'm pleased to see that we no longer need 3rd party software, but I can't get the Mac to recognize the reader in Keychain Access.

I've loaded in the X509 Anchors, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I also have the new Parallels running and thought I'd try to make it work over there. So, I downloaded ActivCard 2.2 and installed it. But I can't get XP to recognize the reader. The USB device setup knows it's there. But when I run ActivCard Gold it doesn't see the device. So, we're dead in the water. I believe that I may have to make it work on both the Mac side and in Parellels. But I'm totally stuck.

OS X Leopard :: Hide Wireless Key (User Can Access Via Keychain)
As many savvy Mac users may know, the keychain contains stored passwords for various resources. A user can access those stored passwords with their computer account's login password. I'd like to know how I may add a wireless network password to a computer, but not allow the computer user to access (see) that password through the keychain. Even if I add the wireless password under a different admin user account on the computer, it will show up under the user's keychain. Many such computers are privately owned, so they have admin user accounts.

IWeb 09 :: Club Web Site ... Access Restricted To Club Members
I have just volunteered to 'think about' doing our local harley owners group website since the last webmaster has jacked it in. The old site has gone and I will have to start from fresh. It will be hosted on a commercial local server with server space and domain name already registered. I have seen reference to password protected areas of websites created using iWeb, and although possible it does not seem that iWeb is actually designed for the job. Also the threads i have seen do not seem to be referring to multiple usernames and pwds, stored in a database, but rather a single username/pwd

What the proposed new site needs is a public area, plus a private area with each member having access using there own Username and password. The Private area would need a Classified 'For sale ' area with members being to add and upload their own ads. is this sort of thing possible from within iWeb or is it way outside its capabilities? I thought it best to ask now...before I build the basic public site, and make a start on the private section...only to then find it is not possible
