IMac :: Unable To Install Snow Leopard / Installer Can't Extract Files From The Package
At first, I tried to upgrade and the upgrade failed to the point of rendering the system useless. I then decided to reformat the drive using disk utility and try a clean install. I then got this error and I'm stuck and have no clue what to do now: "The installer can't extract files from the package for BaseSystem. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." I have never encountered anything like this before.

"install failed the installer could not install some files in "/" 10.5.8"Is what I get when I used the Software Update and attempted to install.I tried the combo update as well it says the same. Ive been trying all morning, I tried running disk utility and it says my harddisk is fine, so it wont let me repair my disk (unless theres a way to force it?) Ive already googled the problem and ive read that someone solved it by using chmod? no details though.

OS X Leopard :: The Application Installer Has Quit Unexpectedly - How To Install
I am trying to install 3rd party software, ProTools LE 8.0, on this system. I have followed all of Digidesign's special instructions and troubleshooting suggestions as posted on their website...but still get this reject message from the Apple system. It gives the options to relaunch or report...

Is there any reason why it would be a Mac problem rather than an issue with the software I'm trying to install? I did also do the repair permissions step they suggested and every other system preferences maneuver in their list.

OS X Leopard :: 10.5.8 - Updating Dual G5 - Installer Was Stuck At Two Minutes Left On Running Installer Scripts
Whilst updating my dual G5, the installer was "stuck" at "Two minutes left" on "running installer scripts" for about 10 minutes. I resisted the temptation to do anything and just let it run. I did hear some HD activity which suggested it was not stuck.

After about 10 minutes or more, the bell rang saying Install Succeeded. A successful reboot proved my waiting was the correct thing to do. Never be in a hurry unless you have lots of extra time. I used the manual combo update. I never use the auto software update for major security/system updates.

Mac :: Can't Install Windows From USB Flash Drive Installer
possible it install Windows using a USB Flash Drive configured to function as an Install Disk? Using the generally accepted method for converting a USB flash drive to act as an installation disc my 2010 iMac 27 will not recognize this drive using the boot drive 'option' key method. After formatting the drive as an MBR disk to act as in installer the iMac will not recognize it as a bootable drive. This works fine on other Intel based computers and my GUID USB Flash Drive OSX install image works just fine and is recognizable as a bootable drive.

OS X :: Installer Could Not Copy Necessary Support Files
Recently I have been trying to install Snow Leopard to no avail. First, I attempted to install it from the dual layer disc I have, and when that wasn't working I partitioned my external hard drive and created an installation image from which to boot. I keep receiving the error: "Installer could not copy the necessary support files". I have scoured the web trying to find the solution, and most people have pointed toward a hardware problem. I verified the HDD and I played with the RAM configuration. Remember reported that one of my 1gb modules was faulty, so I took that out and I still keep getting the same error.

MacBook Pro :: Can't Install Microsoft Office 2008 - No Installer App?
My wife and I purchased a new 15" MacBook Pro for my step-daughter a few weeks ago. I've been a Microsoft user for almost twenty years and this is my first experience with a Mac so most of this is new to me. I know the big thing about Macs is supposed to be how intuitive everything is but I'm just not seeing it and I'm feeling like a total computer idiot right now. Hopefully this feeling won't last but right now I'm just struggling to get software installed.

In anticipation of her starting college in the fall, we purchased Microsoft Office 2008 for her computer and I can't seem to get it installed. Every time I insert the disc, a window opens and tells me to double-click on the install icon. When I do this it says something about mpkg files and tells me to pick an app to use with it. From what I've read, the Installer app should open automatically but it isn't. I thought I'd go find it and start it myself but there appears to be no Installer app installed on her system. From what I've learned, it should be at either /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app or /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app, depending on her version of OS X. Well, it's at neither location. I can't seem to find this app anywhere on her computer so I can't install anything. I'm not certain of the model or the OS version but I do know it was the newest 15" MacBook Pro model when ordered a month ago and I'm assuming it has the latest version of OS X.

Snow Leopard :: Create Snow Leopard DVD Installer From HD Installer
I've created a bootable Snow Leopard installer on an external drive. I don't recall if I created this from a 10.6 image or DVD, but I do know that I now have neither. I would now like to burn a Snow Leopard install DVD using my external drive as a source. There are plenty of how-to's on the reverse process, but none going from bootable HD to bootable DVD. Help.

(I could experiment and figure this out, but am hoping to avoid dual-layer coasters from those that have done this process).

Snow Leopard :: Restoring Only Personal Files On New Install Of OS X
My MacBook Pro i7, bought in April 2010 runs like a dog. Beach balls quite often just opening apps like Safari. Generally anything I do on it results in beach balls more than normal. I don't see anything out of the ordinary eating up CPU or memory in Activity Monitor. I have repaired permissions, reset PRAM, run ONYX, and I just can't get this machine working like it was on a fresh OS, so I want to put a clean OS on it from scratch.

On my Time Machine, I have it setup to only back up my files, mainly my Itunes library and Aperture library and my Documents folder. Can I reinstall Snow Leopard clean, with Itunes and Aperture all updated, then import these files? I was thinking that I would install Snow Leopard and Aperture, and then update the system, and then somehow restore all my files from Time Machine.

OS X Leopard :: No Mouse/keyboard With Installer?
I am trying to install Leopard from a retail DVD on a Power Mac G4 MDD dual 1GHz with 2GB RAM, which I believe satisfies the system requirements. This machine is currently running 10.4.11 just fine. My problem is that whenever its has booted off of the Leopard install DVD, when it gets to the screen asking me to choose a language, I can't move the mouse pointer (nor can I seem to have any effect with the keyboard). So, I can't proceed with the installation.

The mouse and keyboard work fine with the current (Tiger) OS installation, or when booted from a Tiger install DVD, or with the hardware test disc (incidentally, the extensive hardware test passes fine). I have tried removing all add-ons, which were a Netgear PCI Ethernet card (the built-in Ethernet port failed years ago) and a Belkin 4-port USB 2.0 PCI card (the built-in USB is only 1.x), but that didn't help. I also tried zapping the PRAM. I tried all combinations of connecting the keyboard and mouse to the USB ports on the computer itself, the Apple 17" Studio Display, and the mouse into the keyboard, but always, the no mouse/keyboard functionality when Leopard install begins. The keyboard is an Apple keyboard and the mouse is either a Kensington trackball or an Apple mighty mouse.

This Leopard install DVD is pretty old-- I waited a long time to try it out-- so it may be a very early release, like 10.5, so I'm wondering if I'm encountering a bug that was fixed in later versions, but I don't know how to get one without buying another retail copy. Just as an experiment, I tried booting a bundled Leopard install DVD that came with one of my Intel Macs, but after booting it froze on a blue screen-- I was suspecting that that wouldn't work, though, because the bundled install DVDs might assume an Intel processor.
