OS X Leopard :: IMac Not Accepting Option Shortcut On Boot Up

I've system 10.5 on my IMac. I need to upgrade to 10.6. Everytime I try to boot from the CD, it doesn't accept any C or Option shortcut. And don't ask about anything else, just booting to my old system and ignoring all my shortcuts.

IMac Intel :: Boot From DVD (Option Shows Lock With Password Field)
I have a mid 2007 24" iMac. The computer was as purchased from Apple in Nov. 2007. No upgrades were performed. When I turn it on, I hear the startup chime and a gray screen that goes on forever. Booting from DVD (by holding "C" or "option") produces a lock icon with a password field below it. I had a feeling that the hard drive failed, which may still be the case, however it's strange to me that the machine won't even boot from the DVD that came with the computer. BTW, it won't boot from Disk Warrior cd either. I did reset the PRAM and SMC. I'm tempted to take it apart, but what would be the point if the computer doesn't even boot from CD/DVD?

IMac Intel :: Keyboard Boot Keys (option) Don't Respond
I have white intel 2 iMac's. Both of them do not respond to the OPTION key while booting. Nor the they respond to C, D, X, etc. etc. I tried both types of keyboards. The white one that came with the iMacs & the new aluminum ones. I went to the an apple store where they hooked my iMac to a white keyboard, and it worked immediately. The same keyabord I tried @ home! Ok, I thought. Must have been some stupid thing I did wrong, but upon testing it at home again, no success. So, has anybody else had this happening to them? Is it fixable? It seems like the keyboard firmware is out of date or something like that. Software update indicates that everything is up to date.

IMac Intel :: Windows 7 Won't Boot - Stuck On OS Option Screen
I recently installed a full copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, purchased at Office Depot, on my fully upgraded iMac 27" (Core i5, 4GB, Radeon 4850). My intent was to use Snow Leopard as my platform of choice for work and special projects, while booting into Windows for gaming (PC gamer). I had an Applecare representative on the phone as I installed the operating system and the process appeared to resolve quite successfully. I used the Apple Bootcamp Utility to establish a partition size of 300 GB, and then I placed the Windows 7 32 bit full installation DVD into the drive and proceeded with the installation. I ensured that the Bootcamp partition formatted thoroughly (NTFS) and I set Windows to download all the necessary updates automatically via Windows Update. I ensured that the upgraded GPU drivers were included during the installation (to avoid the black screen issue), as well as installing the Snow Leopard disk drivers, the iMac 27"-specific drivers and new Bootcamp 3.1 update for Windows. The partition worked fine and appeared to have been configured successfully after approximately 2 days of booting. Soon after, I installed Quake Wars, L4D 1, 2, Mass Effect 2, Need For Speed: Undercover, Mozilla Firefox and Sophos Enterprise AV. Approximately a week after installation, I began to experience malfunctions varying greatly. Sometimes, when I would boot, I would simply reach a black screen with a white, flashing cursor. Other occasions I would load to a black screen, which contained a disk read error (Disk can not be found) and a request to CTRL+ALT+DEL. Yet other times, the computer would simply lock up on the gray, Option bootdisk selection screen. In each of the aforementioned circumstances, the computer would seem permanently stuck, since the computer would not proceed to any operating system, regardless of time allotted (up to 20 minutes provided). On occasion, Windows would boot normally with no problems whatsoever.....

Pages 09 :: Keyboard Shortcut For Spelling Check Option?
In the past, in Pages and in all my other Mac apps, I use the system keyboard shortcut cmd-: (colon) to bring up the spell check window and check the spelling. When I'm finished, I press cmd-: again and the window closes. It's a toggle. But it doesn't work that way in Pages 09. The shortcut brings up the window, but pressing it again doesn't close the window. I have to use the mouse to click on the close window button. The toggle still works for Bean, for TextEdit, for DevonThinkPro, etc. It doesn't work for Pages. Is there something in Pages I can change?

OS X :: Changing Switch Between Spaces - Shortcut Key To Option Tab?
I've been searching in vain around the internet for a few days now for a way to change the hotkey for switching between spaces (by default, option-arrow keys, though I have changed it to command-option-arrow keys) to option-tab and shift-option-tab. To be more specific, I'd like option-tab to switch to the space to the right, and shift-option-tab to switch to the space to the left. I have downloaded BetterTouchTool (http://blog.boastr.net/?page_id=1722), and it can assign any shortcut key to the simple option of bringing up the spaces interface itself, but I can't find a way to assign a different shortcut key to actually switching spaces. Interestingly, using that app, I was able to assign a five finger swipe (which blew my mind, by the way) in the corresponding direction for which space I wanted to switch to by assigning the gesture to the shortcut key for switching spaces (so, five finger swipe to the right is assigned to command-option-right arrow).

OS X Tiger :: Power Off When Sleep With Keyboard Shortcut Command-Option-Eject
I'm getting strange power off behavior on my iMac G5:

1. When I use Command-Option-Eject keyboard shortcut to put it to sleep. No shutdown sequence, it just turns off, as if I had pressed the power button. No problem when I put it to sleep using the Apple menu, that works normally.

2. When I unplug the Ethernet cable to the DSL modem.

3. Unpredictably, about 20 or 30 minutes after boot-up. I'm working away in Mail or Firefox, or something else, and boom, it just powers off. Although it seems to be stable the last couple of days.

Snow Leopard :: Boot Menu - Holding Down Option ?
I thought I would share an issue which had me confused but I figured out how to fix. I bought an Apple keyboard with the extended number pad and when trying to get to the boot menu by holding down 'option' it won't work. I had to switch to the default mini keyboard (without number pad) and hold down 'option' to get access to it. This was frustrating when trying to sort out some bootcamp issues.

Last week I finally upgraded from 10.6 to 10.7, but now my Mac Pro (2008) won't boot properly.  It'll start to boot with the gray screen and the Apple logo, but then the entire screen goes gray and it just locks up there.   However, if I reboot and hold down the Option key to bring up the list of bootable drives that works fine. I've checked my Startup Drive settings and the proper drive is selected. why it won't boot on it's own anymore?  Holding down the Option key is getting old.

I'm tech savy but I've tried resetting the PRAM and everything else I culd think of but he still gets that same screen. He is not pressing the option key when booting it just does it automaticlly. My understanding is that display port and mini displayport use the same protocols and are merely different form factors... However that doesn't explain the behavior I am experiencing.

Whenever I turn on the workstation the iMac 'kicks' over into Target Display Mode and simply displays a black/blank screen. it is getting some sort of signal from the computer, however after a few moments it switches back to OS X. If I manually press command f2 it will do the same thing, even if an OS has booted on the workstation.

OS X Leopard :: Mac Does Not Appear To Be Accepting Any Incoming Connections (firewall Off)?
I've been desperately trying to get my PS3 to talk to my Mac with zero success. I've tried a large range of software, from Twonky to MediaTomb to PS3MediaServer to EyeConnect and to MediaLink. All fail to recognise the PS3, and vice-versa.

Firewall is turned off, router appears fine (seems to work with other computers on network), but the problem persists.

The apps listed above are not the only ones which will not receive incoming connections from the LAN: VNC does not appear to work, and Transmission bittorrent client is telling me that my ports are on 'stealth' (though this could be a router issue).

If you think it may be a router issue, my router is a DG934G router provided by Sky Broadband.

I've recently re-installed the OS (harddrive failure, replaced), but the problem won't seem to budge.

Server V10.5 Leopard :: Restrict Accepting Delivery Of Mail
We are running OSX Server 10.5.8 and would like to stop direct delivery of mail from the internet. We have a hosted anti-spam provider, but sometimes spammers are connecting directly to our server. I don't believe the mail server can restrict the delivery of incoming mail by IP address? We would like to only receive internet email from our hosted anti-spam relay AND receive from our remote workers in order to relay it on.

The Mail Service Admin guide suggests that this should be accomplished with the firewall. If one were to limit connections at the firewall, or even at the mail service by IP, wouldn't this also stop SMTP connections from users with laptops working remotely? How is this achieved with Mac Mail server as incoming mail and remote workers all use SMTP? I suspect the answer is to send mail via another host when working remotely, but will this then reach the "sent" folder in users' mailboxes?

IMac Intel :: IMac 24" 2008 - Unable To Boot After Boot Camp Crash
I was booted into my Windows 7 boot camp partition when suddenly the entire screen cuts to a creamy white colour, after realising it was a bit more serve than a crash, i rebooted my iMac.

It then begin playing the boot up chime over and over again, very quickly (as if mid way through the last one it would reboot).

I figured it must be something to do with PRAM/NVRAM, so I rebooted with CMD + OPT + P + R held two times, the computer then only plays the chime once, but still fails to boot into OS X (but it can boot into Windows 7, as long as its in safe mode, I figured it some thing to do with a service provided by the boot camp assistant).

This obviously suggests that my hard drive, graphics card, logic board, CPU, RAM etc is working just fine. But OS X still refuses to boot.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Accepting Invitations To CalDav Calendar
I have some users that want to be able to view each other's calendars. I thought iCal server and CalDav would be a perfect solution, but unfortunately there is one hangup. I can't accept invitations on the CalDav calendar. We are using iCal server on 10.6.5 and iCal on the clients at 10.6.5. I've got a CalDav calendar setup and working well with iCal. I can create, edit, delete, and work with ToDos. I deleted the local calendars, and the CalDav calendar is the only one in iCal. When I get an email invitation it shows up on the CalDav Calendar but immediately an error window pops up with the following information: The server responded with an error.
The request for "New Event" in "Calendar" in account "user@example.com" failed. The server responded with "HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error" to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation.

The logs for iCal Server have the following entries that seem to correspond:

Snow Leopard :: IMac Sound Option Flipping From Headphones To Digital Out
So I recently purchased (with the help of my family) a new iMac 10.6.3 for college. It's been about four days since it's been installed and has been going fine until today. I was looking at a video for school and didn't know the sound was completely max until I played music and heard it was full blast. I didn't think much of it, but I don't know if that has any relation to what my computer started doing next.

I noticed the sound coming off and on and thought it was my music, maybe downloading some messed up songs. But it started doing it to music that was perfectly okay earlier. I went into the System Preferences and saw that - without any headphones or anything plugged in - my 'Play sound effects through' option was - and still is - constantly flipping from headphones to digital out (which both play no sound) to internal built (I think). But now it's only flipping through the no sound options.

OS X :: Broken Option Keys And Stuck In Boot Camp?
Recently I was unfortunate enough to witness the spilling of gin and tonic on my precious macbook pro. Luckily, having had spillage issues before, I reduced the damage and now have merely a few keys not working (including both option keys) and some dodgey letters.

After turning off my mac it restarted automatically in boot camp mode and with both option keys broken I can't get back into OS :/ What's more, my boot camp has no sound and the internet doesn't work so it's pretty much turned into an iphone charger.

I was wondering if anybody knew what I could do to rescue my files and what I should do about the broken key situation?

Postfix does not indicate that you entered your password is incorrect and ask the client to reauthenticate. Does anyone know how to require postfix to authenticate before accepting mail?

OS X :: Macbook With Broken Screen Wont Boot - Using Option Key On Power Up
Long time lurker, first time I couldn't find a fix without asking so here it goes... I'll try not to leave anything out... Btw way the screen is broke but i use it with an lcd tv. Was working in final cut this morning when suddenly the app froze. No big deal I'll just force quit and restart... Hit enter on the force quit dialogue and the app disappears. Cool.BUT, its hanging in purgatory in the dock, thinking its still "active" or whatever with the little highlight, but clearly states that is "not responding" when right-clicked. Command-opt-esc doesnt show final cut in the applications list when pressed again... AND, Illustrator and photoshop are also now not responding, and begin acting the same way in the dock. Weird right? Ok whatever so I'll just shut down and fire her back up, I think. Apple menu/shutdown shows the yes/no dialogue to shutdown but when i hit okay it does not shutdown. the top apple menu bar disappears as does all files/folders/images on the desktop, but the desktop background remains. i figured it was just taking a sec longer than usual so i walked out of the room, but when i came back it was the same. after REALLY trying to NOT press the power button to shut it off, I finally broke down and did. Now the tv isnt getting the signal from the mac on restart. After much searching (probably here) I found that if I power up the mac and then immediately close the lid it forces the connected display into primary. Again, cool. BUT, I get the blinking question mark folder. I somehow managed to pull the above trick and hit the option key which brought me to what I thought would be an empty startup disk screen. Alas, Macintosh HD is right there. But, when I choose that drive, which is the only thing showing, it goes back to a blank grey screen and never boots. Any ideas? I can get all my data via target disk on my imac, and it appears the drive is functioning fine when i use disk utility when viewing as a firewire drive on the imac.

Pages 09 :: Is There A Footnote Shortcut - How To Add A Customized Shortcut
I'm using Pages 09 to write some academic articles where I need footnotes but I cannot seem to find a shortcut for them. It is a bit of a hassle to be having to go up to the InsertFootnote in the toolbar.

Microsoft Word for Mac's short cut is "Apple" + Option + F. In Pages that gets me to a Search side bar.

If there's not shortcut, can you add a customized shortcut?

Information:
MacBook 2,1 (Winter 06)
Mac OS X (10.5.7)
Intel Core 2 Duo; 2 GB RAM
