OS X Leopard :: How To Use Automator To Convert PDF To JPEG

I'm trying to convert a batch of PDF files to JPEG files using Automator. I'm using the "Render PDF Pages as Images" action but apparently it only creates temporary files AND gives them random names. This command suggests using the "Rename Finder Items" action, but STILL only seems to rename the temporary items.

Why in the world can't I actually SAVE the images and why can't it keep the original filenames? I thought Automator was supposed to SIMPLIFY things?

Applications :: How To Convert A PDF To A JPEG
I Mroogled. All old results. Google only comes up with programs that either suck or apparently do not work on Snow Leopard.

The problem is that it is a multipage pdf. I opened it with Preview, and saved as a jpg. Only saved the first page. Control-A'd to select all of the pages in the sidebar, same thing.

I need one single (very very tall) jpg from this pdf.

I've found an automator script to convert a multi-page PDF file into a bunch of separate JPEG files, but I am wondering how to convert the PDF file into one JPEG file that contains all of the PDF pages. Is that possible?

I couldn't find a way to "merge" JPEG files in Preview or anything-

OS X Leopard :: Converting TIFF To JPEG With Automator?
I am on Snow Leopard, but I could not find an Automator discussion for Snow Leopard. I am doing a large scanning project and using Automator to convert TIFF to JPG. I find that it generally works well, but inevitably, many of the resulting JPEGs have horizontal bars of static. Sometimes I can "Rework" the bad files back through Automator and it will correct the problem. Other times, the horizontal bars of static persist, and I have to manually go into PREVIEW app and convert from Tiff to Jpeg there. I notice that when I do it this way, I get options for quality level of the conversion. Default is 80% and I can bump it up to 100% and a larger file size. I will have batches of from 5 to 100 slides that I process in this way. The average batch size is about 25.

My initial Automator workflow was
1) Get Selected Finder Items
2) Copy Finder Items (to a new folder, so I don't wipe out the TIFF files)
3) Change Type of Images (to type: JPEG)

This workflow will copy all the TIFFs to a new folder, then it opens them ALL in Preview, and converts them all rapid fire to JPEG. I thought this might be a problem so I put a loop in the workflow. So now my workflow looks like this:

1) Get Selected Finder Items
2) Dispense Items Incrementally
3) Copy Finder Items (to a new folder, so I don't wipe out the TIFF files)
3) Change Type of Images (to type: JPEG)
4) Loop

This new workflow gets a higher percentage done correctly, but there are still several images that have the horizontal bars, requiring manual rework. For the record, my entire workflow is the following. I know I could automate more of it, but cannot when I have to do the manual rework.

1) scan slides on Epson scanner
2) Use A Better Finder Rename to rename files.
3) Run Automator workflow to convert TIFF to JPEG
4) Run A Better Finder Attributes to change file dates of jpegs
5) Import into iPhoto, name the Events, set Faces, set Places, do Edits including crop, color correction, etc.

OS X Leopard :: Convert MPG To DV With Automator?
I got an awful lot of MPEG files I need to convert to DV for iMovie, and I started to do it manually with MPEG Streamclip application. Works fine, except I will have to spend months to do it all. I thought of Automator actions and tried to use it with not much success.

What I need to do:

1. Open a video file in a source folder with MPEG Streamclip.

2. Command the application to convert it to DV with default settings.

3. Save to specified folder (or just anywhere, I'm not fussy).

4. Open next video file in the source folder and do the same.

5. Keep going until the last file in the folder is done.

It works fine if there's only one file in the source folder, but if there's more than one. it tries to open them all at once and gets stuck, or converts just the first file in the list.

Is there a way of telling it to go opening files in folder one-by one and wait until one file is finished converting before opening the next one? or I'm doing something completely wrong?

If I had to feed it files myself I might as well do the whole thing manually...

OS X Leopard :: Automator Action To Convert Files To JPG?
I'd like to use an Automator action to convert screen shots and other images to JPG. I've come across a number of pre-packaged Automator tools to do this.

My question is rather basic: how do I actually activate this action? Do I open the image? Drag it into Automator? I've tried right-clicking on the image icon on the desktop and it only offers to create a workflow. But the workflow is already created. I'm confused.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Preview - Saving Pdf To Jpeg?
I have a lot of multipage pdf's that I need to reduce in file size. They are scanned pdf's so no actual editable content.

If i select a page and 'save as' I can save to jpeg where I can reset the dpi of the page (currently 300dpi). This is Fine, but I need to do it to all the pages of the pdf. If I select all pages 'save as' will only save out one page and not all.

If I print and choose 'pdf to jpeg', It will save out all pages but I don't get the ability to reduce to dpi and the output jpgs are still huge. Is there a way to save to pages out in one go to jpeg where I can adjust the dpi setting?

I have tried using the reduce file size option, but the resulting pdf has lost too much quality and is unreadable. Once I have the reduced jpegs it's easy enough to reimport into preview and save as a pdf.

OS X Leopard :: Automator Script - Convert Video_ts Files For Play On AppleTV
New to Automator and have a huge task. I recently purchased an AppleTV for family entertainment and did not realize it would not play all of my video_ts folders that I've created (yes, legal copies of movies that I own). We have been enjoying iTunes movies, but do not feel like spending thousands more to repurchase movies that we already own DVDs for. I thought because Front Row supported raw DVD files, surely ATV would. My mistake. Is it possible to have Automator work through Handbrake or some other program to create m4v files that ATV could use? This would be a huge task if done manually.

OS X Leopard :: Convert Image To PNG - Automator Versus Photoshop Elements
Is Automator better at implementing the PNG convert algorithm? Or, are the Photoshop Elements PNGs higher quality?

Neither method offers a quality setting... unlike Photoshop Actions, Elements has a "batch process" feature, I think under the File menu, and you get to select a couple of transformations, and conversion formats, but no quality settings are available for the file type change.

OS X Leopard :: Automator Action To Convert Multiple Videos To Iphone Format Using QT Pro?
I noticed that QT pro, iMovie and iTunes, all three have the capabilities to convert videos for iphone. I dont like iTunes conversion because it tends to increase the size of a 700mb avi file to more than 1 GB!iMovie on the other hand changes the resolution which I dont want. QT is a good balance of file size and picture quality. But there are several movies I wanna put and each take a lot of time. So I was wondering if there is a automator action which can do it? I have already searched google and i found QT Exporter but it doesn't have option for iPhone.

Here's the situation: I have access through school to a number of textbooks which I can print, but only chapter by chapter. I don't want the paper copies, because in finder, I can search multiple texts at once, so I'd much rather do that. There are 20+ books, and some have as many as 150 chapters, so doing it manually is pretty much out of the question. How I can generate a workflow in automator to make that happen?

Aperture :: Convert From RAW To JPEG?
I normally shoot in RAW so I have the power to make more accurate corrections, if needed. 90% of the time I don't need the RAW image after I've made adjustments, however. Here's what I would like to accomplish using Aperture 3:

-Import RAW images

-Make adjustments to photos as needed

-"Convert" all images 3 stars and below to JPEG and replace (i.e. DELETE) all associative Master RAW images.

What I've been doing is exporting all the images to my desktop after I've made the adjustments, delete all the photos out of the album, and re-import the JPEG images into the album.

Obviously, this is not a very efficient method and a "convert" option would be nice to use if it's present.

Aperture :: How To Convert Raw To JPEG Without Exporting And Importing
I have about 4,500 raw photos that I need to print on contact sheets (or print contact sheets to a PDF). I took the photos all in Raw format. Aperture, or my computer, is not powerful enough to process all of these photos onto contact sheets from the Print Images menu item; it takes several hours. I suspect I need to convert the files to a low-quality JPEG and print the contact sheets from those, which should be fine because the thumbnails are so small.

Here's the question: I know that I can create JPEGs from these raw files by exporting as JPEG and then reimporting them into Aperture, but this seems overly complicated. Is there a way I can select a number of photos within Aperture, and then select to convert them to JPEG of a particular quality, without leaving the application? Or are the multiple steps - exporting and importing - necessary?

Next time I'm shooting Raw+JPEG to avoid this, by the way...

Applications :: App/Automator Script To Batch Convert Htm Files To Jpg?
I have a collection of .htm files saved onto my Mac hard drive. I want to convert them to .jpg files--all at once. I found a Windows program that could do it, but when it converted them, it would not retain the original file names. It gave them a sequential file name, i.e. _1.jpg, _2.jpg, _3.jpg ~ _263.jpg. There is no option to retain the original file names...:/

EDIT: (i.e. marketingtable.htm > marketingtable.jpg)

So my question is, is there an Automator process that could batch convert .htm files to .jpg? Or is there an app for Mac that can batch convert .htm files to image (.jpg) files?

I usually am able to find the answer to all my questions with Google, and this time I thought I had as well with the Windows app, but it brought upon too much of a feat for me to handle.

(Also, if there's an Automator process to batch rename files using a .txt file as a reference for the new names of the files, that'd be awesome as well.
