OS X Leopard :: How To Change Terminal Ssh Port Setting

My ISP changed its ssh port from 22 to 100. I've tried to change it in Terminal but it stays at 22. I opened etc/ssh_config as administrator, changed it there and saved the change, but it stays at 22.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Change The SSH Port In OS X 10.6
How do I change the SSH port in OS X 10.6?

I added three additional Port options to my /etc/sshd_config. I have the same configuration. I restarted my Mac, but I can't access the Mac over the new ports. Running nmap shows no additional open ports.

I have the same configuration on my linux server, so I'm pretty sure, the syntax is right.

OS X :: Running Terminal Command / Connecting To Ssh Through Dock Icon
I've use a terminal command to create a SOCKS proxy through my ssh server (ex. ssh -D 2008 -l user, to which I am then prompted to enter a password, and everything is connected. For the sake of ease of use (as I need to do this frequently), is there any way I can make a dock icon, or something along those lines, so I can just click it, it runs the command, I enter a password (or maybe even not?) and it's all set? I have tried setting up a workflow in automator to run a shell script, but it is unsuccessful, leaving me with "Run Shell Script failed: Pseudo-terminal will not be allocated because stdin is not a terminal."

OS X Leopard :: Setting Up Static IP For Port Forwarding
I have an iMac with Leopard 10.5.6. I live in the UK and I'm subscribed to Virgin cable broadband, through a Netgear WGR614v9 router. I have a P2P program called Utorrent, and I'm trying to carry out a task called 'port forwarding'. I read through [URL] and it tells me that in order to do so, I have to set up a static IP on my iMac to do so.

I've tried to do this in Networking in System preferences -
1. I go to TCP/IP and changed the configure IPv4 to Manual
2. Changed the IP address to something similar to my router IP (router IP is and I changed the IPv4 address to
3. Wend to DNS section and entered in the DNS server addresses that I got from phoning the internet provider

Then pressed Apply to find that my internet connection goes down completely. The Airport works properly and can connect to the router, but the internet is showing a red sign. Setting up the port forwarding in the Netgear router is easy enough - you just go to the port forwarding section and add a port to open. Every time I go to the [URL] (my designated port here) and check, the port is closed.

OS X Leopard :: Change Outbound VPN Port?
When I'm on a wifi hotspot or other public place I use a vpn connection with my network at home, this works great.

But the problem stats when I'm at the university, they block allmost all network protocols so i can't use vpn to get/send my mail over pop3/smtp.

I've found a tool that shields all traffic when you're on a hotspot and i can get my mail. But it's a bit annoying to use, when i start it will open 2 browser tabs with a connection status, an "ad" like page and shows an advertisement on top in every browser screen you'll load.

Isn't there any other way to let the vpn connection start over another port (like http port 80). My router is configured to forward the port to the vpn port and the system I connect to.

OS X Leopard :: Change VNC Server Port?
I've been searching and found a few thread on this but none that seems to terminate with a working answer.

I have two macs behind a firewall. I want to be able to VNC to both of them. The firewall has a public internet IP.

For additional safety I'd like to change the default port from 5900 to something else on BOTH computers. Then I would plan to use SSH for a tunnel.

But I can't figure out how to change the listening port from 5900 to something else without installing a different VNC server. I'd rather not do that if I don't have to.

Does any one have the definitive method to change the listening VNC server port from 5900 to something else?

Software :: How To: Delay Printing Change Name Change Setting Of Printers
Q1: how can I delay printing? This was possible in OS9.

I have a thermal printer wich permits me to change the ribbon (Black, CMY, CMYK). If I have a mixed type of files to print, I'd put on hold (in the "print" window) the files that requires the unloaded ribbon while waiting for the other to print.

Of course, I can print all the CMYK, wait until it's done then print the B/W ones but I don't find it practical. Or I can also rush to the print center and hope to have the time to suspend manualy the ones that need it.

Q2: Once a printer is created, how can I change the associated ppd? This also was possible with OS9.

Q3: It is possible to change the printer name once it is created?

Software :: Change/remove An Entry In Terminal?
I am a Mac user but do not know the technical or programming aspects of usage. A while ago I started with a new internet provider who attempted to give me a workaround to using bittorrenting without throttling (their service was being throttled by the parent line owner). The workaround involved putting some text into a Terminal window. I felt uncomfortable with this because i had heard you can really mess up your mac with Terminal if you dont know what your doing, but the guy i was talking to assured me this action he was leading me in was simple and wouldnt affect anything else. I did not finish the process he started me with (for fear of something going wrong), but I did enter enough text to wonder if its affecting my computer in some way. There are no signs of anything, but I'd rather make it as if I had never messed around with that to begin with, just incase. Its been about a month since this occured. I remember just closing the Terminal program and I havent touched it since. Can you please tell me what I can do to safely remove the entry?

MacBook Pro :: Change Boot Options With Terminal?
How to Change Boot options with Terminal, or Startup Disk.

Problem I want to Install Boot Camp On my old Macbook Pro, But the "Superdrive" is not super anymore... So I only have the USB option. So I for instance partitioned my Extern HD and installed Lion in hope that it gave me the option to use the USB drive, since Boot Camp 4.0.1 have more options than 3.0.1 But all for nothing the macbook pros s EFI is set to only use the Superdriveport, and not like the Macbook air. I have seen I can use some rEFIt program to go in and change the preferred drive for starup. But I would rather like not to have a to change anything in the EFI with any program.

- So it must be possible to sort of make the Macbook Pro into an Air regarding the drives, if you know any kind of programming, which I dont.

Server V10.5 Leopard :: How To Change Or Configure SMTP Server Port Number In Mail Account Setup
When I try to set up and test a new email account addressing an SMTP server that seems to e using a nn-standard port number, how on earth can I even look at the port number assigned by default to a new account in Apple Mail 10.6 setup ?

I might have to trial and error different port numbers but when Mail tries to test the connection to the SMTP server after I enter its address, it just spins and hangs up. I suspect the reason is a wrong port number. How do I change that outgoing port number in Apple Mail ??

There seems to be no obvious way the program will let U do it or even let you view the port it assigns in apparent error.

Hardware :: Way To Change The Port Forward Settings
I have orb installed on my Mac Mini and I'm trying to get the orb iphone app to wake the Mini up when I want to use it. I'm very confused about this whole port forwarding thing. I went to [URL]and entered in the correct info, but it still doesn't wake the Mini up. My question is this. I've configured my Airport Extreme to have 2 networks, one 5GHZ and a 2.4 (both with different names) so that I can use my iphone wifi with it and run the rest of the Macs in the house at 5GHZ. When I go into the airport utility, I only see the main 2.4 one listed on the left column. When I change the port forward settings, are they only being applied to that one, or both the 2.4 and 5 GHZ?

OS X Leopard :: Login Using Ssh
I have a small(?) problem login in to a Mac Pro running 10.5.7 (not the Server version) via ssh.
Here's my setup:

I have a file server (call it, MacPro running 10.5.6 Server). The server hosts an OD-server and home directories of users. The authetication works using kerberos. The home directories are exported using afp.

I also have another Mac Pro (call it running 10.5.7). I want to use this machine as a compute server, where users can login via ssh and run numerical computations for number crunching. I have allowed remote login, added the server in the directory utility and copied the according certificates. In the /etc/sshd.config I have enadbled GSSAPIAuthentication yes A graphical login as user works fine, the home directoriy from the server is mounted and seemingly no problems appear. I also get valid kerbeoris tickets, checked by klist.

If I try to login in from my laptop (MacBook Pro, 10.5.7) via ssh

ssh user@compute

I get the following response

password: Password entered here
Last login: Thu Jun 4 17:06:57 2009 from
Could not chdir to home directory /Network/Servers/ Unknown error: 118

However, it seems that I'm logged in as user: whoami and id give correct username and ids.
But the kerberos authentication fails, as klist reports:

Unknown Error Code: 118 while initializing Kerberos 5

The user, that tries to login has tcsh as his shell. For a different user with bash the results are the following:

ssh user2@compute
password: Entering the correct password
Could not chdir to home directory /Network/Servers/ Unknown error: 118
-bash: /Network/Servers/ Unknown error: 118

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Manually Change Network Port?
I'm currently using crashplan as an online backup service. Crashplan uses port 443 to send its backup data to its servers. I need to figure out a way to differentiate crashplan traffic so that I can create a QoS rule in my router to assign it a low priority, and I'm not quite sure how to do this.

I can't use a mac address, since that would deprioritize the whole computer. I can't use port 443, because that would flag a huge amount of other traffic as well that I don't necessarily want de-prioritized. Currently, crashplan does not offer a way to change the port it uses.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Using IChat File Transfer Port (can't Listen To Port 5190 And 7777)
I need help opening port 5190 and 7777 for ichat server file transfers. When I try to transfer files between the clients, the transfer fails. When is Bounjour available, file transfers work fine. As for now, my situation can be described as below:

(1)I have a ichat server in a mac mini(2010, newest model as for today) running a fully updated version of MACOSX SERVER 10.6 inside a lab in my university.

(2)As for the ichat server itself, text, voice, video between 2 or more persons are all working great. As for clients the latest version of ichat and pidgin(text only) are being used. The only problem is the lack of file transfer between ichat clients.

(3)The server is behind a router (YAMAHA RTX 1200). I am 100% sure that the router is correctly configured to allow packets in and out of the port 5190 and 7777, among the other necessary ports. All the other ports are open and working correctly. I also manually disabled the firewall of a windows7 laptop and tested packet transfers on both ports and both worked fine.

(4)As I said before, the server is inside my university lab. I made sure that all ports between 1023~65535 are open in the univesity gateway/backbone network.

OS X :: Open Port / Port Forward Leopard Bizarre?
Here's the deal, I am so frustrated. I am trying to open port 59152 for Transmission on my Macbook Pro. I have the latest releases of everything, I am using an Airport Extreme base station with an older airport to boost my signal/connect my tivo w/out a wireless adapter.
I have managed to get it open in the past but there was an update or something a month or two ago and at first it was still open and then it closed. I don't know what changed with the update, all I know is that I did n't change anything.

I have granted permission for Transmission to accept incoming connections on the firewall, little snitch allows it too. I have lighthouse, which worked at first but now I don't even know why I bother having it run. I have the port mapped through the airport utility.

PLEASE don't say to go to because they haven't updated the Airport section since Leopard came out, yet every search I do someone repeatedly tells the person needing help to go to [URL]

I am going to attach some screen captures so you can see what I've got going on and maybe point out something I've missed.

MacBook Pro :: LCD Tv For Monitor - To Change Setting?
so here is what I got going on. Just went out and bought a new 42" 1080p LG LCD tv, got mini display to dvi, then a dvi male to hdmi. After hooking up and working for about a half hour, I got a pulsating, blinking, flashing what ever you wanna call it, 4 to 5 inch grayish black line towards the bottom of tv. After disconnecting the MBP line would still appear, it comes on for like 3 seconds then off for 3 and back so took TV back. Did this happen from anything on my end? Can't figure out what if so. Could it have been a failure of hdmi port on Tv, like if had something else plugged in (blue ray player) same thing would have happened? Before I hook up the new TV again is there any settings that I need to change? Any info would be great so don't have to package up another Tv and head back to Wallie World.
