OS X Leopard :: Cannot Install Any Updates 10.5.8 On Ibook G4

After I downloaded the Safari update 4.0.4 I am prompted to restart my computer to finish the installation. Once I do this the progress bar starts across (configuring files), then (writing files) now the progress bar is about 1/4 of the way across an it stops and a box pops up that says: The update "Safari" can't be installed. The installer could not install some files in "/". Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

Applications :: Software Updates Wants To Install Updates For Application.
So a while back I had final cut pro installed, and eventually deleted cause I no longer needed it. I used AppCleaner when removing to try and make sure I got it all.

Well every time I do a software update it wants to install "Pro Applications Update" and "Prokit Updates" Which are updates for final cut pro and its related apps.

Any idea how I can stop it from wanting me to install these updates for something I no longer have?

I'm trying to update Java but each time I try, I get an error message saying "Please run software update and install all previous Java updates before installing this upgrade." I think the problem is that I need the Java release that came between release 2 and release 5, but am not sure where to find that download. Is that available on the Apple support site, or somewhere else?

OS X :: Can't Install Any Updates For Leopard / Sort It?
I've just upgraded my G4 1.25Ghz, (2GB RAM) to Leopard 10.5 from the DVD from 10.4.1. It installed ok although it hung at the end of installation on the System Preferences. I had to shut it down and start it up again. It started no problem so I assumed all was ok. I then tried to update. I used Software Updater and it recommended that I download and install 10.5.8. I tried this but it kept hanging when I hit the install button on the updater. In force quit it kept saying the updater was not responding. Upon reading quite a few articles on the subject, i tried to download it directly, I did but it still wouldn't work. I read that maybe I needed earlier updates first do I tried 10.5.6 combo with no luck and then I tried 10.5.1 but it still doesn't work either. I lets me start to install the update but it hangs every time I hit install and says the program is not responding.
Have I not upgraded to Loepard successfully, ie do need to uninstall it and re-install it (how) or is something in the install manager that isn't working.

The xserve is set up with three 1 TB drives, 2 as a raid 1 set with the other as backup. The single volume is divided into two partitions. One with the system files and one for data. RAID utility say all is good. I have two other identical xserves, hardware set up exactly the same way, that are NOT restricted to version 10.5.5. MacBook :: Can't Install Essential Updates On Reinstalled Os X Leopard
I have a 2008 5th generation black macbook. It's a good 4 years old, so I figured I'd wipe my computer all together and reinstall os x. Once I did, everything is working fine until I do the software updates. Safari even looks like it's from 2008 lol. The issue is, it downloads the updates fine, but once it restarts and begins the actual install, it gets to the point where it's "Configuring update" and completely stops in it's tracks. I've tried letting it do its thing and walked away, because maybe it would actually take a while but no, the blue progress bar is in the same exact point. So I'm stuck with leopard 10.5.2

OS X Leopard :: Reinstall Leopard Have Plenty Of Updates And Stuff That Needs To Be Install?
Every once and awhile when I feel the time is right I reinstall Mac OSX on my laptop just to clear up all the junk and start fresh. So that is what I did this time but I ran into a problem. I do have Vista installed also so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I also am on a school network that does have blocks so I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I haven't ran into problems with updating in the past on the school network. But whenever I click "Software Update" it checks for updates and nothing comes up. Usually when I reinstall Leopard I have plenty of updates and stuff that needs to be install.

For whatever reason, when I installed Snow Leopard it did not automatically install the updates for the printer drivers already installed in my computer.

I then tried to manually install the printer drivers using the SL disk and still no luck. The printers that I use are both wireless and work when they are connected with USB. Am I missing something? I'm reading all over about how people have made the upgrade with no problems at all so I'm there's got to be something I'm not doing.

PowerPC :: Ibook Freezes During Leopard Install
I naively tried to install leopard OS on my 5-year old ibook G4 (with very little RAM). It makes a horrible clicking sound from the dvd drive and freezes on the screen that says its looking for OS 10.4(?) (which is not on the computer). When I reboot it immediately starts the install process, because the dvd is still stuck in the drive, and freezes over & over again.

All I want to do is remove the disc and go back to the original OS, so that I can add more RAM and update the OS properly. (The only motive for the update is so that I can have the same version of Garageband 2008 on both my desktop and laptop so I can work with the files interchangably.)

Is there a way to restart the computer that bypasses the install disc and dosen't default into the install porocess?

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Will Not Install Leopard From Partitioned Drive?
I have a PPC iBook G4 with 1.3 Ghz and 1 GB SDRAM that I bought new in 2006. I've never had a single problem with the machine, but it doesn't have a superdrive and the OS Tiger capabilities are limiting.

Last year I upgraded to Leopard with a .dmg via FW external drive and loved the interface, but with only a 40GB HD I deleted any app I didn't need. Over the summer I bought a new iMac, but I still need the laptop whenever I'm away from my desk. I tried erasing and reinstalling now that I don't have to keep much data on the drive...interested in getting back those non-essential apps. I've done it before with the exact same resources, but this time it's not working. I'm hoping someone out there can tell me what step I'm forgetting.

Here's what I've done:

1. Connected iBook to iMac in target mode via FW and erased/partitioned HD in Apple Partition Format.

2. Reinstalled Tiger on iBook from original disc.

3. Connected iBook to external drive via FW and restored .dmg to smaller partition on iBook.

4. Opened .cdr on smaller partition, saw the Leopard disc image, set the Leopard install disc as the startup disc in System Preferences. Hit restart button in System Preferences and got the little "not happeneing" noise.

5. Went to desktop and opened the Leopard installer disk image and pressed the install/restart button there. Reboot was slow and dark at first, but ultimately booted Tiger.

6. Went back to System Preferences, selected Leopard install disc as the startup disc again, locked the selection and restarted...booted Tiger again.

7. Tried these tactics again while holding option key and then S key at restart, but the second partition with the installer was never recognized. Tried from Safe Mode, only booted Tiger.

8. Then I tried connecting the external drive again and opened the .dmg, then .cdr from there. Again System Preferences recognized the installer, but it would not boot with the same variables as before.

9. I connected the iBook to the iMac in target disc mode again and ran disc utility, all good. Then I did same with external drive, all good. I made sure both drives and the install disc image were bootable. Tried the boot again from both, all bad.

10. I did a lot of reading on troubleshooting this process and thought it might be a permissions problem, that the installer was not executable. I did a terminal tutorial and managed to make the partitioned drive and disc image both owner enabled. Still the exact same results as when I started.

OS X Leopard :: Software Update Is Not Showing Updates / Updates That Are Actually Available

Of course I can manually download the updates, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this type of problem and if there's a way to solve it so I can get all updates through Software Update.

PowerPC :: IBook - Getting Kernal Panic When Trying To Install OS After HDD Install
I just replaced the HD in an iBook G3 I have laying around with a toshiba 40gb. The install went fine and I formatted it in disk utility using mac os x extended (journaled). I ran it for errors and it checked out fine. I also ran the apple hardware test CD and everything checked out there too. The problem is I am getting a kernal panic no matter what I do. I started off installing 10.3 and the first disc installs fine, but then when it restarts it gets an instant kernal panic. I tried 10.4 with the same results. Then I tried the 10.2 discs that the iBook came with and it would get the very last step of the install on the 1st disc and would not go any farther. It said "one minute remaining" for over an hour.

I have taken a picture of the error log that shows up and you can see here: The top line got cut off but it says "panic(cpu 0): Unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerBook4,3" Like I said, everything checks out hardware wise and i have tried three different versions of OS X.

OS X :: How To Install Updates Properly
I ran software update and when the updates were finished downloading it told me to restart the computer. So I clicked restart. When I got to the blue screen with the turning gear it stayed on that screen for a while. Not just a minute or 2, I think at least 10 but possibly even more because I left the room for a while since it seemed to be doing nothing.

I came back in the room after a while and the computer was on the desktop. Should I be worried that it took so long to go from the blue screen with the turning gear to get to the desktop? Do you think my updates installed correctly, and would there be any way of knowing if they didn't?
