OS X Leopard :: Cannot Run Hardware Test From Installation CD
My intel imac has been acting balky lately- running a bit slow at times. It recently started "blacking out"- shutting down somewhat randomly and being slow to restart. I'm trying to run the hardware test from the installation cd's that came with my machine, but I'm unable to get it to run. I've tried using installation disc 1 (my machine came w/ version 10.4.4 of the OS), installation disc 2, holding down "c", holding down "d", holding down "apple-d" etc to no avail. Any ideas how I can get the hardware test to actually run? I just want to try to diagnose the random shut downs.

OS X Leopard :: Apple Hardware Test Does Not Run?
My first question fo the day is, I tried to run Apple Hardware Test, just to know what it looks like and ho it can be used to diagnose hardware problems. Thus, I put the DVD #2 in the drive, and didn't released the D key until the rolling "thing" appeared below the grey apple. Then, the computer started as usual. The DVD is not scratched in any way, and just to be sure, I tried both with my backup DVD of it, as well as the hard drive partition containing the mounted image. OS X :: Snow Leopard Installation / Remove Any Applications I Currently Run?
I assume an upgrade to SL will not remove any applications i currently run, unless I do a so called "clean install", but I just wanted to be sure: What will get removed when I upgrade? My applications that are not 64-bit compliant? Will they still work? Will my adobe software still work, or does it need an update? Does any of my applications need an update? I have some custom icons (through Candybary), will they be removed? Will all my personal preferences reset? Basically, what will an upgrade to Snow Leopard touch and change on my system? ATM i got Leopard installed, by the way.

OS X :: How Long Can Apple Hardware Test Run
I'm running an extended Apple Hardware Test on my 4Gb MacBook Pro. It's been running 50 minutes and isn't even 25% completed going by the progress bar. It's been on the same step (memory pass number 2) for pretty much this entire time. Is this a sign that something is wrong with my MacBook Pro? It was purchased new in June of this year.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Hardware Test Will Not Run?
I have a new mac mini running OS 10.7.2 and I have just noticed problems with keyboard and mouse intermittently not working, along with other random glitches that seem to be hardware related. I tried restarting while holding down the "D" key to run hardware test, but all I get is the computer trying to get onto the Internet to restore. It then asks to choose a network, and when I drop down the menu of network choices, my home network is not listed -- only my neighbor's.  Right after purchase I cloned my OEM system drive over to a faster HDD, and the OEM drive is now an external backup. I wouldn't think that would matter since everything has been working fine for the last 3 months. How can I run a hardware test? Info: Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.2), Windows 7 Mid-2011, 8 GB, dual HD's

Mac Mini :: Cannot Run Hardware Test - Probing Never Completes
I start the hardware test, it tells me probing will take about a minute and I can't do any tests until it completes, the blue bar goes about 95% of the way and stops, I go away and come back half an hour later and nothing has moved. Is it because I have an Acer monitor and a no-name three-button optical mouse? Does the Audioworks speaker system plugged into the headphone jack have anything to do with it? I wanted to do a hardware test because a particular application gave me kernel panics. Apple support walked me through erasing the disk, reinstalling the OS, and recovering my settings and data from Time Machine. I did not reinstall the offending application and I have not had any more kernel panics. But I still can't run a hardware test. Information: Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.6.4)

MacBook Pro :: Can't Get Apple Hardware Test To Run
I purchased my Macbook Pro (Early 2011) 2ghz i7 edition, about 4 months ago now, Earlier today my MacBook Pro ran a grey bar update during start up started up & ran a little slower until I restarted afterwards. I was concerened until the restart, however I am no longer concerned. My main issue is that now I can't seem to correctly follow the instructions to successfully start an apple hardware test. I have previously owned a Mac mini, Powermac G5 Dual 1.8ghz and Powermac Quad G5 and I have always been able to successfully run apple hardware tests on them. I held down the "D" key during startup prior to the grey screen and I tried plugging in a ethernet cable, the powercable and a USB keyboard all to no avail. Info:MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Intel Mac :: Screen Gone Black - How To Run Apple Hardware Test

IMac Intel :: Shuts Down Suddenly And Unable To Run Apple Hardware Test
The iMac is still shutting down and it uses to freeze specially when watching web video streaming (Flash Player), but not only under that circumstance: sometimes when loading Dashboard. After the replacements and checking that the problem seems to be persistent, I performed a fresh install of Snow Leopard and updated to the last version of Flash Player plugin (10.1.85.3) in Firefox and Safari. I repared file permissions as well. After all, the issues are unresolved. Curiously enough, I tried the Apple Hardware Test to exclude hardware problems, but when pressing the "D" key while booting with the installation DVD inside, the test doesn´t load and the computer shuts down. MacBook Pro :: Unable To Boot From OSX 10.6 Installation DVD To Run Disk Repair
I have something that is puzzling me. My MacBook Pro hasn't been giving me the best experience lately - the system just seems... slow. So I ran a disk permissions fix and it found some errors which I repaired. Then, I thought it might be wise to run a disk check on the System Disk as well. So I attempted to boot from the Mac OSX installation DVD - I tried both a "hold the "C" key" method as well as the "Set start-up disk preferences to boot from DVD" method. I even tried two different OSX nstallation DVD's in case one wasn't working. Information: Many Mac OS X (10.6.6) 8GB RAM, Boot Camped, 500GB Drive. i7

Mac Pro :: The Hardware Test Actually Froze In The Middle Of The Ram Test?
if you recall a thread I started trying to get help on why the Mac Pro was crashing... I finally narrowed it down. After speaking to about 4 different people at apple.... they had me run the Apple Hardware Test off the boot CD.I took out EVERYTHING except the 2nd DVD burner (Apple Branded Superdrive from my old 2.5 Dual G5)... and ran the test. The Hardware Test ACTUALLY FROZE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RAM TEST.I thought I had bad aftermarket ram... as it wasn't playing nice with the Apple ram when I added them together.Looks like I had fine aftermarket ram... the Apple ram was bad.I REPLACED the Apple Ram with the Aftermarket Ram... and the Hardware Test completed fine. So, now I'm going to be calling them again in the morning and letting them know what happened. I wonder if they'll just let me RMA the bad ram, or if I'm going to have to lug this dang thing down to an apple store.I WONT BE HAPPY IF I HAVE TO DO THAT.Oh, and no more lockups since switching out the ram... and all the other quirks (not able to burn CDs in Windows, sloooow Internet page draws, etc...) are all but gone now.

IMac PPC :: Test A G5 Logic Board Without Hardware Test?
My son's 17" imac PPC G5 was not booting up. After a trying a couple of things I got it to boot using Disk Warrior and reparing the file directory. At that time I also ran DW's hardware test which said the drive was fine. My son hard restarted it shortly after I fixed it and it wouldn't start up again. Just a gray screen, no apple logo. When I tried to use DW again it told me there were problems with the hard drive and it couldn't fix the problem. I tried to fix the hard drive in target disk mode using Disk Utiltiy and Drive Genius. No luck. So I pulled a working drive out of my Mac Pro and reformatted it and swapped the internal drive of the iMac with it. There were no DIP switches to set. Started up the imac with a Leopard retail disk thinking I would just install a fresh system onto the replaced internal drive of the iMac. Disk Utility on the leopard disk didn't see the hard drive. Now I'm beginning to think it's a logic board problem but I can't find the original disks to do a Hardware test with. Is there some other way to test a logic board? Or some other idea that I'm not thinking of that could be wrong with the machine? Info: Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), ATI 1900, 8GbRAM

MacBook Pro :: Apple Hardware Test Freezes, "one Second" Into The Test?
I have a 17" unibody MBP (early 2009, specs below). It was running hotter than usual the other day, so I F2 booted into AHT to run a diagnostic. The status box within AHT showed 1 second into the 1st pass, and never got beyond that. Several seconds after that status message was displayed, the cursor froze. The time counter never advanced after that, and although I waited a long time, nothing happened. The test froze. I've tried it several times more. It once worked, but every other time has frozen. Checking the "extended test" box, or trying to run in loop mode has made no difference - still freezes at "1 second". I've had this machine for 3 years, OS's Leopard through Lion, and this has never happened before. I last ran a test, successfully, in January. I've not changed any components or suffered any damage since then. Memtest (ver 4.22) says my RAM is fine. (I ran this because the first portion of the AHT is the RAM component.) Aside from the aforementioned overheating episode, which disappeared, my machine's been fine. early 2009 MBP unibody 17" 2.93 Core 2 Duo 8 GB RAM 750 GB HD Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
