OS X Leopard :: Block Facebook On My Computer?
We have babysitters who use our computer and we want to block Facebook and other social networking programs (chat rooms, etc) from being used. How can I set up my computer so that they can't access Facebook and chat rooms? (We do NOT want to block their use of the computer totally because the babysitters are great otherwise and it's very hard to find folks like them in our area.) We have the Intel based iMac running Leopard.

Safari :: How To Completely Block Facebook
When I surf the Internet I always have a Facebook.net cache cookie in Safari. I already have installed Glimmerblocker, Facebookblocker, AdBlock, Ghostery, and Facebook Disconnect plugins all with strict filters but nothing works. The option to block third-party cookies is enabled, of course. I don't see Like buttons on webpages anymore but the cookie comes again and again. How can I ban that terrible Facebook from my computer? Info: Mac OS X (10.7.3), RAM: 8 GB

OS X :: How To Block Particular Computer From Using Wireless
I been googling and searching for an answer for this question...and all of them say to go through the router. But I was just wondering if there is a way to block computers from using my wireless? Here is the deal. I have a router set up which uses a WPA password. I live in a apartment building so I gave the password to some of my close friends to use. I monitor who is on my network through just looking at the "shared" section on my finder window. I can tell which computers belong to my friends, but every once in a while, an unknown computer pops up. I believe I have seen 3 unknown computers (PC's) - and they do not use the net frequently. I would like to block these computers when they come up. Is there a way to do this without going into the router settings and adjusting those protocols?

OS X Leopard :: Facebook Cannot Open Facebook Messages?
I can see the messages selection on the facebook sidebar, but when I click on it nothing happens. This occurs on iMac running Snow Leopard, and a Deskpro running Leopard. The strange thing is that Facebook messages opens on my iPad. So if I want to read messages I have to go to the iPad. The only problem is scrolling within some Facebook messages is not possible, so I have to use both a mac and iPad to use all the features of Facebook. The inability of opening facebook messages is a big problem for me. Information: iMac Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Power Mac G5 :: Computer Freezes / Red Block In Top Left Corner
My Mac occasionally freezes, i.e. mouse pointer doesn't move, no reaction to keyboard. It happens without discernible pattern and can happen even without input, e.g. I look up to take a phone call and when I turn back to the computer that had just been sitting there, it's frozen and I must power off/on. When it happens, I noticed a weird red block in the upper red corner: I do web development and run a few pretty common apps, nothing "hackish" or experimental: Safari, Firefox, BBEdit, NetBeans (Java-based PHP development environment), Fetch (FTP client), Photoshop, Preview, Mail, Adium (IM client) and in the background Little Snitch, Time Machine, DropBox client. Airport is turned off, Internet access via Ethernet cable. Information: PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5 GHz Mac OS X (10.5.8) 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT

MacBook Pro :: Facebook Cannot Load On My Computer
Yesterday facebook just stopped working. I was on my timeline on my profile and it froze my internet and I managed to get off facebook. Since then, I have had a diffcult time getting on facebook on my computer (all other websites have worked so far). My profile has loaded on two other computers fine (one of those other computers was a mac). One of those computers uses firefox and the other safari. I have already tried removing my cookies and cache and looked up other suggestions online but none seem to work. When I remove my cookies, sometimes facebook will let me log in and then stop working again. It's not my profile (I never sign out) because other profiles have the same problem. When I removed my cache for the first time it worked nicely for like 30 seconds before it began not doing anything again. Info:MacBookPro, facebook issues

OS X Leopard :: How To Change The Language Of A Block Of Text
Working in a bilingual environment, I am constantly switching languages as I write e-mail. Using Mail 3.5, if I forget to change the dictionary language before I start writing, Mail logically marks most words as spelled incorrectly. After having written a paragraph, I'd like to be able to change dictionary language, and then continue writing. But Mail doesn't seem to change the language for the text that was already entered -- the words that were "misspelled" according to the old dictionary language are still underlined in red after the new dictionary is chosen, and after I've told it to "Check document now". How can I get it to re-evaluate the text as now being in the language of the dictionary, so that all those incorrect red underlines will disappear? Information: iMac 20" 2 Gb Ram Mac OS X (10.5.5)

OS X Leopard :: Can Block The Guest Account From Downloading Files
I need to setup the guest account so that it is able to use the internet, but is unable to download any type of file. i.e. pirated software, music, books, movies, etc. I would also like to disable eternal drives from mounting. My wife and I are looking at doing a coffee shop in a South East Asian country, and we heard that the local cops like to send somebody in and download illegal content and then come and confiscate your computer. So I want to be able to completely block all types of file downloads, and disable the use of usb drives etc..

OS X Leopard :: Incorrect Block Count - Blue Screen Crash
I have got this error a couple of times, but I don't know what it means, how to fix it, or how to prevent its recurrence. The initial problem was a blue screen crash. After that, the computer would not boot and would hang on the blue screen. I was able to restore from my time machine backup, so I did not lose much. But before I restored, I tried to repair the problem using Disk Utility (after boot from DVD), or using fsck in single user mode. DU noted the problem (which is how I got the error message above), and then claimed to repair it. But the computer would still not boot. I tried an archive and install, but that failed partway through with the message that it did not have the necessary files or some such nonsense. I was also unable to repair the problem using Disk Warrior. I used DW to do a surface scan and smart test of the disk and found no hardware problems. I have gotten this error twice, and each time recovered using Time Machine restore. The error did not seem to recur when I avoided using VMWare Fusion to run WinXP, and the error seemed to follow use of VMWare. Does anyone know what this error is, how to avoid it, and how to repair it? Do you think VMware or WindowsXP might be responsible? Information: MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Mac OS X (10.5.4)

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Block Phishing Scam Emails In Mail?
I was wondering how do you block phishing scam emails from Mail (which I thought was full proof for this kind of junk emails)? Because quitely frankly the ones I'm receiving are irritating me largely because they're from banks I don't even have accounts with, also they're about internet banking which I don't even do. I've tried marking them as "junk mail" and then deleting them from my trash can in mail. This doesn't seem to stop me from receiving them? Info: Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Block Access To Specific AFP Shares From Some IP Address?
I recently upgraded from an old Xserve G4 (running 10.4.11) to an new Intel based Xserve (running 10.6.1). Along with this change, I've finally been able to deploy network based Time Machine backups. This has been working pretty well, but within a couple days, I've noticed an issue that I'd like to find an automated workaround for. Sometimes our users work from home or travel. The TM client on the desktop (er laptop) systems dutifully mounts the "TM" share from our Mac OS X Server system. Of course, being a VPN connection, this goes at a painfully slow pace. It seems like in most cases, it takes a whole day to complete a single backup run. One option is that the user could simply manually disable TM on their client while they are away from the office and have a VPN connection active. The other I was considering would be to block access to the AFP server's share for TM backups. However, I wouldn't want to block access to all AFP shares, just this one specific share. This means that I can't use the firewall that is part of Mac OS X because it would simply block access to the network socket that the AFP server uses. Looking around in the config screens and trying several google queries, I haven't come up with anything. Are there any hidden config options? I'm still trying to figure out if this is even a good idea to do. If I block access to the TM share, then the users will also be blocked from being able to restore files. Maybe the thing to do is just put it on the user to disable TM when desired, but trying to figure out if this is even possible to do. Information: MacBook Pro, iMac Mac OS X (10.6.1)

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Using DNS Blackhole Lists To Block Malware Sites?
Has anyone had any luck supplementing their DNS configuration with a malware blackhole list like the one at [URL]? I'm trying to do this manually without disrupting the Server Admin DNS tools and normal administration of my own primary/reverse zones. I decided to try including my own view with these domains in it. I've added the following line to the end of my named.conf file: include "/etc/dns/malwareView.conf"; malwareView.conf looks like this: acl "malwareDomains" {localnets; localhost;}; view "malwareDomains" { allow-recursion {"malwareDomains";}; zone "greatvirusscan.com" {type master; file "blockedDomain.zone";}; zone "grgdidfir.com" {type master; file "blockedDomain.zone";}; zone "housevisual.cn" {type master; file "blockedDomain.zone";}; ... }; /var/named/blockedDomain.zone looks like this: $TTL 86400 ; one day @ IN SOA myservername.net. admin.myservername.net ( 2010050700; 28800 ; refresh 8 hours 7200 ; retry 2 hours 864000 ; expire 10 days 86400 ) ; min ttl 1 day IN NS myservername.net. A 127.0.0.1 * IN A 127.0.0.1 The DNS log indicates that all the zones for the malware domains are loaded, but the server still sends the requests for these domains on to my forwarders. OS X Leopard :: Potential Virus From Facebook App
So last night I get on my own Facebook page using Safari and decided to play an old (3 month) youtube vid I had on it but I instead get a message within the YouTube window that I need the newer version of Adobe flash to play the video. I thought it was odd as it played before in the past and I recently updated from adobe but OK, I wasn't thinking and went ahead and clicked to upgrade, when the adobe Flash uploaded finished, the typical Mac window popped up for Admin password in order to continue updating, which I typed in. I can't say why but it seemed different than the typical upgrade, then all of a sudden "Mail" app open up automatically behind the other apps that were already open, it took me a while to realize it was open and trying to send. The funny thing is I don't use the "Mail" app, I always go to a web based mail server. So I was really surprised when it opened. I then started getting a Mac OS pop up window message saying: "A keychain cannot be found to store to "Safari"" every two minutes with my cursor turning rainbow hour glass not allowing me to do anything else until I hit cancel. It keeps coming up.With my PC, I would have never have done the above but with Mac I had no fear but what my mac is doing right now is very very uncharacteristic and virus like. I'm doing a scan by MacScan right now. I would love some positive help that is presently occurring on my computer. Does this sound like some kind of virus or malware? Snow Leopard :: Cannot Connect To Facebook When Built In Ethernet Is On
I have a newly developed problem. I can't connect to facebook and only facebook using any browser on my OS X 10.6.5 Intel Macbook Pro (have tried Safari, Firefox, and Chrome) when I am using the built in ethernet connection. It will connect to facebook through the same router if it connects to the router wirelessly. It is not blocked by a firewall (it's my own home network). I can connect to Facebook using other intel macs that are connecting through the same router by built in ethernet. I checked my hosts file, and there is nothing that looks suspicious there. I cleared the facebook cookies in all of the browsers, and even reinstalled the browsers. Still no facebook. It's the only thing that won't load. If both built in ethernet and airport are turned on, facebook won't load either. The only configuration where it loads is airport on and built in ethernet off. I would rather be on the faster connection, so any help to get this sorted out would be appreciated. Information: Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.5)

OS X :: Facebook Games Won't Work After Install Snow Leopard
I have a MacBook and just upgraded my OS couple of days ago from 10.4 to Snow Leopard 10.6.1. Well actually my husband did it for me (Im not great with the technical stuff lol) and tells me it wasn't a clean install but that Apple didn't state this was necessary. Anyway everything seemed fine until I tried to access any of the online games I play from time to time on FaceBook. I don't know if any of you are familiar with the apps I'm talking about but basically you have 'neighbours' and can gift items back and forth, well all my neighbours in all games have disappeared and I have disappeared off their lists too. I found out that Adobe had vanished during the upgrade so I have now installed the latest version of that but although this enabled me to see one of the games I still don't exist on them!! The other games just wont even load - all very strange. Why should a change of OS effect online games anyway? I'm hoping that someone can tell me what I should do about this.....I know that Facebook games aren't particularly crucial but it's frustrating me not knowing why this has happened.
