OS X Leopard :: Best Program To Keep Mac Running Fast, No Crashes, And No Freezing

I have a MacBook Pro Titanium, running OS X 10.5.8 and a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. It has a 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM for Memory. My computer has been running slower lately, when I'm online it tends to freeze up on me more often, and while I'm working in different programs, especially iPhoto, it increasingly keeps crashing on me. I'm thinking I need to defragment my drive, check for corrupt files, etc. and run something like Disk Doctor on it. Ten years ago, with the older computers, Norton Utilities Disk Doctor was the recommended program to use on a Mac to keep it running well. With these newer computers, and the OS X systems, which program is best for keeping my Macs running well? Is it still Norton's Utilities or is there something better? The reason I ask is because I went online to purchase the newest version of Norton's Utilities and it only received 2 out of 5 stars.

IMac Intel :: Cleaner Program To Keep System Running Fast And Things Tidy?
I know this is a silly question but is there a good "cleaner" program to keep my mac running fast and keeps things tidy. Being a former PC guy for years and years there was always a need to run a registry cleaner and spyware cleaner. I realize mac does not have theses issues and that is one main reason for me switching from PC to mac. However, I was wondering if from time to time I still would need to run such a program?

Windows On Mac :: Program Not Running On Bootcamp - This Program Cannot Run On A Computer With Less Than 64 Megabytes Of Ram
I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro, the new unibody ones, and I installed Windows XP, using BootCamp.

I made it a 29 or so GB partition, so it used the FAT32 formatting.

The program I tried to install is the eyeQ speed reading program, and the laptop exceeds every single one of the recommended requirements.

The problem comes when I am attempting to install the program, I keep getting an error message in which it says "This program cannot run on a computer with less than 64 megabytes of ram."

Last time I checked my laptop has 4 GB of ram, and it says the same thing when I checked it while running Windows XP.

My only guess, which I made while typing this, was that I should have formatted the Windows partition using NTSF.

OS X Leopard :: Mac Running 10.5.8 Crashes With Hard Restart Message?
Mine is a Mac Pro 1,1 with 6gb Ram, 4 cores @ 3ghz, 27" cinema display. I've had 10.5.8 installed since it was released. In the last few days I've had 3 or 4 system crashes, where it's like a blind comes down over the screen and a message says to do a hard restart on the machine. On two of those occasions when the machine comes back up there's been a dialog to send a report to Apple. I'll paste in one of those reports below. All Apple software updates are applied. Looking through it I can't see a lot of clues as to what area the problem is in. I guess HFS is the file system. Does backupd refer to the Time Machine process, by any chance? I have that running all the time. I can't pick anything that seems to trigger these crashes. I had WoW going both times, and EyeTV for the first one but not the second or third ones.

Mac Safari :: Freezing, Force Quit, And Crashes - How To Fix It
The past few days my desktop mac computer has been having trouble with Safari. It has been freezing at times when it normally would have been fine, such as when I click a link on my email, which leaves using force quit as my only option. When Safari isn't freezing, it is crashing on its own. That has occurred about 4 times in the past few days. I have yet to figure out any rhyme or reason to the problem, it just seems to happen randomly.

Software :: G4 Keeps Freezing Running Mac OS X Tiger
I recently got a Powermac G4 MDD 2003 that I plan to use as my main computer. I have been experiencing issues, where the computer freezes and I have no choice but to hold down the power button, in order to shut down. Also, and music or sounds that are playing at the time repeat the last 0.5 seconds or so of playback. It runs Mac OSX Tiger, and I reinstalled the system yesterday, but not much seems to have changed.

I have had many thoughts as to what causes this issue, like my other computer being connected through the network, my external hard drive, Adobe flash player, and the core system files being corrupt. But none of these have proven to be the issue. I have done a number of system maintenence routines, such as clearing the PRAM, 'fsck -y' from Apple + S on boot (I don't know what its called), and endlessly repairing the disk in disk utility. While writing this message, I got a kernel panic error.

Snow Leopard :: System Running Slow / Freezing / Not Responding
I am running Snow Leopard on Mac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 GB SDRAM.Over the last few days the machine has gradually become slower and slower, the spinning wheel frequently appears and programs are not responding and the system freezes. When I restart, on a couple of occasions a white screen with grey pixel blocks has flashed up during start up, other times it has frozen on the blue screen.

I have tried running Disk Warrior, Disk Utility, ClamXav, Onyx and disconnected all hardware, then finally I have reinstalled Snow Leopard but still seem to be having the same problems.By the way, I am also running VMware Fusion, don't know if this is relevant.

ITunes Mac :: Program Now Crashes Every Time Song Changes
The problem keeps getting worse - initially I could play a couple songs before iTunes crashed, now it crashes EVERY TIME it changes songs. It plays the first second or two, then iTunes shuts down with an error message to report or reopen it (every once in a while it gives me the option to "Try Again.") I don't seem to have any issues with viewing the library or syncing my iPod, but the constant crashing is annoying. Once this morning it reset as if I had never run it, and all my "Now Playing" info was gone (it came back after the next crash) and the name is corrupted under Visualization. How to remove 7.3 and go back to 7.2? I don't have an iPhone so I guess I don't really need 7.3.

Mac Mini :: What Is Best Use Of It - Tower Is Freezing And Running Slow?
What is the best use/purpose for the Mac Mini?  My wife's G4 (Granite) Tower is ancient and slow and freezes up frequently so it's time to get another computer.   I have a 5 year old MacBook Pro sitting unused after I bought a 2.13GHz MacBook Air .  I am contemplating buying a Mac Mini or an 11 inch AirBook. The Macbook Air would give some flexibility to the household by being portable.  She does only basic stuff, nothing fancy, so anything will be better than what she's using now.  (At some point in the future, I may give my son the Airbook for college and get a new one for me, but that's not what I want to do now.)So my question to the community would be what do you recommend?

1) Reformat and use the 5 year old MacBook Pro (free)

2) Mac Mini? ($599) (I have an external monitor, keyboard and an external Mac Disk Drive so no need to buy them.)

3) MacBookAir 11 inch ($1100)

4) iMac ($1200) (I think this is overkill for her.)

MacBook :: Pro Not Running As Fast As It Used To?
So I just bought a new Macbook Pro in September (MPB 15.4" CTO: 2.2Ghz Qaud-core i7 processor, 8gb 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 128GB SSD). This was my first apple laptop, and I was just amazed at how quick, smooth, and fluid everything was running (internet, apps, etc.). I ended up installing a few applications from the apple store, installing microsoft office, and partitioning my computer to use Windows 7 through bootcamp (for those windows-specific applications). I'm a student, but take all of my notes by hand; I bring my computer to class with me anyway. When I get home, I plug it in right away. It usually goes from full charge to 80% - 90% and then back to full charge everyday. Whenever I'm not using it I just shut the case and put it to sleep (never turn it off, always plugged in). Recently (In the past month or so), I've been noticing that if I leave Safari open for a few days and then keep using that same, open Safari application to browse the web, open new tabs, etc. it becomes slower to load pages (pretty much noticibly slower). Also, when I have a bunch of tabs, it tells me that I need to reload all of them because something went wrong with the one I was just loading. Also, when I'm multi-tasking; using Safari, and then working in Word, Word will not respond as quickly as it used to. So when I get annoyed that everything usually takes a few more seconds to load/respond, I restart the laptop (allowing all windows/apps to reopen upon restart), and then everything is smooth and fluid as the first day I bought it. I would like to know why this is? It kind of feels like I need to restart every 3-4 days to get everything going back to it's original fluidity. Is this normal behavior? Is it a rogue process slowing everything down? Now, when I say slowing down... by all means this doesn't mean unresponsive, just takes 3-5 more seconds to do things it normally would as if it were new. Is this just the way Macbook Pros work, and they clear some sort of "memory" file or "cached" process upon restart? Thanks for the input, I just want to be reassured it's not some sort of virus per se or some rogue app taking up memory. For the most part, my cup is broken up to: User 5%, System 5%, Idle 90% (although it could be more/less since I'm not constantly looking at it).

MacBook Pro :: Fan Running Too Fast?
Yesterday, I noticed that my MBP (early 2010 model) suddenly seemed to be making much more fan noise than usual. I'm not sure whether its just that I'm noticing something I wasn't noticing before.

Can anyone tell me if the following is normal? I've read that idle fan speed is around 2000 RPM. Right now, my computer has a CPU temp of 110 (Fahrenheit) and the two fans are running at 2916 and 2910, according to iStat Pro. A temp of 110 doesn't seem like it should be inducing such a high fan speed.

Applications :: Recommendation For Fast & Free Video File Converter / DVD Burn Program
I'm trying to burn some DVDs. I first burned in Finder and found out the hard way that that makes terrible quality data disc DVDs. Then I tried on iDVD, and at first it said it would only take 3 hours to burn a 1 1/2 hour movie on Professional Quality, so I was happy. But as it was encoding, it jumped to 16+ hours! So I tried again with only high quality, and it still said 8 hours, and now after 10 hours is still encoding. So, I need something else that's faster. I also need something relatively easy to learn/use. It may sound like I know what I'm talking about kind of, but I really don't and I just barely figured iDVD out. I still want it to convert into DVD quality discs (and good quality - I just got a new HDTV and would even like to try burning HD or Blu-ray discs). And I need it to be free.

So, my needs are:

#1 - FAST
#2 - FREE
#3 - GOOD QUALITY CONVERSIONS
#4 - EASY TO LEARN/USE

MacBook Pro :: Time For New Battery - Power Running Out Fast
I just calibrated my battery today on my 15in MacBook Pro after noticing that the power has been running out ridiculously fast recently. Even in my hour and fifteen minute classes the battery is dying at least fifteen minutes before the end of class. After calibrating and plugging my computer back in and fully charging it it's telling me that I have 50 minutes of battery life left, that was about ten minutes ago and now I have less than 35. I followed the directions for calibration but I'm not entirely sure that I did it correctly. I do tend to leave my laptop plugged in most of the time, with the exception of traveling and classes and the laptop is almost exactly two years old so I don't know if there is much that I can do for the battery aside from getting a new one. From what I've read it seems like the battery life on all of the macbook pros is nowhere near the 4-5 hours they should be getting and always closer to an hour and a half.

Software :: IMac Freezing When Running Few Programs?
I have a iMac(it is an older one but I forget when I bought it) it has OS X 10.4.11, and 1 GB ram. I have 30 GB of free HD space.

Normally, I run Aol Desktop, Firefox, iTunes and sometimes Microsoft Word. But recently while browsing the internet the Mac will stop working. The music will continue to play and the mouse will still move but everything else stops working. The only way I have been able to fix it is to hold the power button for a couple of seconds.

Also, while trying to zero out my free space the available HD space on my computer went to 0 and the Disk Utility said it would take something like 1 million hours to finish so I skipped that step and when it finished my memory was restored.
