As a whole, and as a user definded section of the movie file/dvd. can someone break down the basic options on how to do this? can built in mac apps do this? quicktime? VLC player? pro tools? toast? idvd or ilife etc for either pc or mac. Preferably mac as i use it more.

Feb 12, 2010When using MPEG Streamclip to convert a 4.47Gb DVD to MPEG4 & the finished MP4 file ends up at over 6gb!! Im using 100% quality , is that the reason? How do i control the size of the conversion ? Limit data rate to x Kbs - if so how do i work it out if the movie is 1hr.40mins? Does Streamclip convert a second for a second. if so i could calculate the size? Ok i now understand that i need to limit date rate and this calculates the end size..

At an Apple store I was told I needed QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback to read the mpeg2 format. Under the FAQs for MPEG-2 Playback, it says to export to mpeg4 (?) I need to use QuickTime Pro.
My question is, do I need both QuickTime Pro and MPEG-2 Playback? I don't want to plunk down $50 unnecessarily. How do these work together to get my mpeg2 files into imovie? Is there an easier route to do this?

I made a .7za passworded archive and threw it on Dropbox, but now I can't for the life of me extract it on a MacBook running Leopard. I've tried 7zX and Keka, but both of them are determined to create either a .7z or .zip archive rather than extract the .7za. What am I not getting here?
I tried to get 7zip, but all the links I find to a Mac version are broken.

Jun 30, 2005I have a few .rm files (RealAudio 10 AAC), and have done a "container swap" so that the AAC is now in a QuickTime container, and is therefore readable by iTunes etc. The problem is that my iPod won't read these QuickTime files. Aug 9, 2010Right click multiple zip files on Windows Explorer and there you have a handy "Extract to" option where you can select to extract all the files to a single folder. How to do the same thing on the mac? Not using terminal, not opening each file and doing the extraction, not opening it with stuffit where it extracts to a folder automatically, i'd like to do the exact same thing that I can do on windows... which is extract X zip / rar files to a specific folder that I can choose, just by right-click.

Apr 28, 2012Is it possible to extract a DVD to .mov without having to spend money? I use Handbrake, which is great; however, I would prefer to have my files as .mov instead of .mp4. Is there something out there like Handbrake that is free without catches? Are there other alternatives?
I know about software out there that does this, like quicktime pro and dvd ripper. I feel that there shouldn't be a reason to shell out more money for just converting files. We all know being a videographer isn't cheap.
Since I need to bring my mini-tapes to a media transfer store to be made into DVDs, I thought I might be able to bring it to that same place or a rite aid or duane reade to be converted to .mov files instead of a DVD.
