I just removed over 1000 cookies. They were bogging the system down to the point of having some pages freeze. I then closed Safari. I launched Safari again a few minutes later and all the cookies were back, even though the only site I went to was the Apple open page.

Safari :: Deleted All Cookies Now Cookie File Will Not Open?

Mar 5, 2012

Been having a terrible time since I decided to delete all my cookies. When I tried to log back into all my online accounts I found that despite choosing "remember me" or other similar choice, if I logged out of my computer or even if I quit Safari (or Safari quit on me which it does a lot these days) I had to log back in to the online account, as if the identity cookie did not take. Tonight I stumbled onto my Console Log which I found has line after line of the following: 2012-03-05 22:28:34.275 Safari[12743] Could not open cookie file "/Users/ryan/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist" for reading. I clicked on the cookie plist, had to input my log in password and the document that came up showed it had recorded nothing since 2/28 which was the day I deleted the cookies. Why would the cookie file suddenly not open?

Applications :: Safari Not Saving Cookies

Jan 25, 2009

I had a trial for MobileMe for a while, and recently I stopped the trial as it was coming to its end. Once it was cancelled, I started to notice that cookies weren't saving anymore within Safari, and I've tried everything to re-enable them. It's crap because every-time I go to a site (such as these forums) I've gotta enter my login info. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I think it's still looking for the cloud bookmarks, and yes, I have gone into the system prefs and removed my mobileme info, and I've also made sure that in the Safari prefs that the option "sync bookmarks with mobileme" is also unchecked, yet my cookies aren't saving or anything. Not sure if it's related to mobile me though.

Safari :: It Refuses To Block Cookies?

Jun 15, 2012

I have set my Safari Preferences originally to block cookies from advertisers and third parties, but it ignores that setting. Finally, I set it to block all cookies. It also ignores that setting. Is there any way to have Safari recognize it's own preference settings? By the way, I had to use Firefox to sign on here at the Apple Website today. Safari no longers seems to work with the Apple discussion site. Very odd.

Safari :: Software To Block Cookies?

Jun 24, 2012

stop selected cookies from being set in Safari? For instance, I would like to permanently block cookies from, say, Facebook and Google Analytics. I have tried clicking the radio button in Preferences>Privacy that supposedly blocks cookies from Third Parties and Advertisers, and like many other users I have found that it does nothing. I get just as many cookies from third parties and advertisers whether the button is clicked or not. As far as I can tell it’s a placebo.

Apple’s Safari help on this issue is suspiciously carefully worded. It says that if you click the radio button, “this MIGHT HELP prevent certain advertisers from storing cookies on your computer.” What?!! What’s with the “might” and “help”? Talk about weasel words! Does it work or doesn’t it? Is it so difficult for software to recognize and delete a cookie? I find it pretty hard to believe that the problem is technical and not, um, deliberate. Apple is, after all, in the information business just like all the other major players.

Anyway, the software that people usually recommend for zapping cookies is Safari Cookies, but that deletes them only when you quit Safari – in other words, after said cookies have reported back to their source. So what’s the point? By then they have done exactly what you are trying to stop them from doing. I want the cookies deleted when they are set – BEFORE my privacy is compromised.

Safari :: Backing Up Bookmarks / Cookies And Other Preferences

May 15, 2012

I want to back-up all Bookmarks, cookies etc from Safari whilst my iMac goes away to Apple for repair.I then want, should anything happen to them whilst it is away (unlikely, as it is a failed DVD drive, but one can't be too careful!) to be able to restore them at a later date. How can I do this?

What file(s) do I need to copy to my external drive and how can I later restore all current bookmarks, settings, etc?Is it just a case of copying, deleting and later restoring the plist file?I've backed up most other important data and settings but my mind has gone inexplicably blank (don't you dare mention advanced age!) on Safari!

Safari :: Google Cookies Aren't Being Blocked?

Jun 21, 2012

Why can I still get Google cookies even when when I have "Always block cookies" checked? I can close Safair, then reopen it without even entering any site and Google will stick their *#@*&@ cookies and cache files in my Website data file?

The "tons" of cache files that I don't even go to the site keep cluttering up the website data file also.

If I don't shut down Safari before unchecking "always" and returning to "from 3rd parties" sites that were visited will have their cookies appear, even though don't have that site page open.

The iOS Safari seems to be better at preventing cookies and cache files from accumulating.
