For one of my classes I am required to upload files to a folder accessed via command line. The instructor assumed that everyone is on a windows machine. The run instructions to do from a campus networked machine (windows) is as follows "\citecscs120". I need to be able to do this from my laptop(OS X 10.5.6) in my dorms.

Hardware :: Can Use An Airport Extreme On University Network

Feb 19, 2009

My university says the ethernet network that they supply in uni halls of accomodation does not allow wireless devices, surely they can't make it so that you cant use an airport extreme or some other device to make the wired network in to a wireless one. The connection is through a proxy and uses PEAP. They also use 802.11X authentication. How can i use my airport extreme in my room so i can use my laptop wirelessly?

Hardware :: University Network Disruption Caused By My Airport Extreme Router?

Feb 2, 2010

I've lived in an apartment for the past year that is connected directly to our university network. I have an airport extreme router that I've tried to set up responsibly with no SSID broadcast, WPA2 with extremely difficult password, transmission power set to 25% etc. It has also been set to 'share a public IP address" and everything has so far worked smoothly.

Recently, however, all apartments in the complex received letters saying that there had been disruptions on the network and that it was most likely due to wifi routers -- which are NOT permitted. If we temporarily disregard that ban, is it possible that my router is causing any disruption? And, if so, what could I do differently to ensure that it does not?

I've tried setting it to bridge mode, but that does not work at all. We are allowed to register 10 mac addresses and I have registered all my devices, but in bridge mode none of them can connect . As I understand it, in bridge mode the university servers are distributing IP addresses to devices that are registered on the network -- is that correct? Then what could be the reason for bridge mode not working if my devices were registered properly?

My main question is whether my router could be causing problems with the above setup?

OS X :: Auto-mount A Network Drive After Connecting To A Wireless Network?

Sep 22, 2010

I am trying to figure out how to automatically connect a MacBook to a network drive after connecting to the wireless network that the drive is connected to.

Here is the situation:

I back-up my wife's MacBook via Time Machine to an external hard drive that is connected to my Apple desktop. It works great! I even have her system setup to automatically mount the drive upon log-in. Unfortunately, after leaving our wireless signal and then coming back the time machine drive isn't automatically mounted since she isn't "logging back-in". Is there an automator script that can be built to automatically connect to drive X after connecting to wireless network Z?

Is this possible 'out of the box' or do I need to slap down the cash?

I would like to set this up so that both the Mac and PC can print to the Canon over the network. The Dell prints fine to the Canon, but when I try to enter the IP address of the printer (192.168 etc.) into the macbook, things do not work. A window comes up saying "192.168... is busy. The password is correct, any ideas?

MacBook Air :: AirPort Not Always Connecting To Preferred Network

Apr 10, 2008

I have a macbook air, but this seems to apply to any mac's with airport. I connect once to our corporate wireless network, I type in the password and it connects. On occasions, when I start up the computer, it doesn't connect and a window pops up with my network listed but it says "none of your preferred networks are available". When I first connect I do check off remember this network. So why isn't it remembering it?

When I go into system preference and click on network, select airport and click on advanced, that network does appear under the preferred networks. Does anyone know why its not letting me automatically connect the next time? Sometimes its ok, sometimes it doesn't even know I connected to this network before.

OS X :: Connecting IMac And MacBook To Same Wireless Network?

So a friend of mine just bought an iMac and is trying to use it on her wireless network. Before the iMac was bought she could use the wireless network I. Her house fine but since the iMac got hooked up the computers can't be online at the same time.

If the MacBook is on and the iMac is off the Internet works on the MacBook and vice versa. Is there anyway a firewall is preventing both computers from connecting to the same wireless network? If so, is there anything you can do to help me out to get them both working properly?A netgear router that was provided by time warner is being used and I'm not sure if y'all need anymore information than that.

OS X :: Connecting Time Capsule To Create Wireless Network Possible?

Aug 7, 2009

I begin uni next month and have been offered accommodation. My room won't have WiFi but will have a wired connection. I'm wondering, is it possible to - rather than connect my MacBook - connect the Time Capsule to this connection and create a wireless network? Also, is it simple to switch from one connection (my current WiFi at home) to another (the uni connection)? Finally, is it easy to switch from being connected via Ethernet to using WiFi (after initial backup for example)? The lack of WiFi would really be rubbish when I have an iPhone and Time Capsule.

Hardware :: Connecting Time Capsule To Public Network?

Jan 31, 2010

So i searched everywhere i could to try and find an answer to this question, because i imagine at least someone on this planet is having this same problem, but i haven't found anything. so here i am, asking you:

Originally i had bought a Time Capsule 1TB and connected it to my internet modem and used it to create a network, then i had a AirPort express that i used solely for AirTunes to my stereo. So i had wireless backup for my MBP, N-Speed wireless internet for computer and iPhone and wireless music in my room, it was awesome.

but i just moved into a condo downtown that we are subleasing. The owner told me it had wifi so that was a selling point for me. but heres my problem, currently i have my TC and AirTunes on one network, for music and backups, but there is no ethernet connection in my condo, so i cannot directly connect it to the internet, so for internet i connect to the public wifi, and have to switch every time i want music in the living room, or want to back up., and i cant do either at the same time as i connect to the internet.

and i cannot extend the wifi in the building since it is not N. so i followed the instructions to connect my TC and AirPort to my existing WiFi, and to my knowledge, they will both connect as clients and be accessible all through my buildings WiFi. But, when i take them off their own network and connect them to the public wifi they just disappear and i have no way of finding them ever again through AirPort Utility unless i reset them.

so i was very troubled with this and it bothered me for ages, and i was just using 2 separate networks, but then i realized that every time a new client connects to the building's wifi it goes to a page where you must click 'ACCEPT" to the terms of use before having access to the network, so on my MBP i can open safari and click accept, but my TC and AirPort cannot click accept.

is this my problem? what do i need to do? can i connect for the first time to the network through ethernet from my MBP to the TC and turn off my wireless card in my mbp then click accept in safari on my mbp? or can i connect my mbp to the wifi and reset my MAC or IP address to the same as my TC or AirPort then click accept, that way the TC's and AirPort's IP and/or MAC are registered on the network and they can continue to connect without being asked to accept the ToU?
