View 8 RepliesMy stepson made a DVD copy of some old film he had and gave a copy to my wife and she wants me to make some more copies to give to other family members. Don't know how so did it the eHow way as shown. The original will play in my Sony player but not the copy and it won't play on my mac either, what did I do wrong? My grandson asked if I finalized, don't know what that is, took it out when the mac said burn complete.
1. Place the DVD you want to copy into your DVD drive.
2. Go to and click on the hard drive and select "Applications." From there, launch the disk utility.
3. Click on the name of your DVD that appears in the white pane on the left hand side in disk utility.
4. Choose "New Image" in the disk utility toolbar. From there a dialog box will appear. Name the new image and choose a destination where you want to save to save it. The best idea is to save it to your desktop because it will make it easier to find when it's time to burn the image.
Burn the DVD.
Insert blank DVD.
Launch disk utility again.
Select burn in toolbar.
Find where you saved image if you didn't save to desktop. (I did save to desktop)
Click on DVD image and then click burn.
Insert blank DVD and your DVD should be ready in no time.
I have a Mac Pro with two disk drives is there anyway I can make an exact copy from one disk to another? or do I have to make a disk image and then burn it to a new disk?
View 6 Replies View Relatedan exact copy of OS X disk which come with my new Mac book pro -just in case the original disk gets damaged (I already had such unpleasant experience with previous Mac). what are the precise steps to do this burning of an exact copy of CD and can it be done with software already installed in my Mac laptop. The laptop is bought 4 months ago with OS X 10.6, no additional (3rd party) disk burning software is installed.

I cant drag music, or play directly from my nas with finder ( tried add library, no can do either) I get an error that I dont have permission to copy to my OSX disc.
I'm logged in as administrator.
It works great on my gf's 2010 mb.
So I tried different versions of itunes. including 9.1 and the current 10.
It works fine in boxee and vlc, so im kind of confussed.
I added a second harddrive to my Mac Pro. As it happens, it is larger than the primary harddrive. What I would like to do is use the larger harddrive as my Mac OS disk, while using boot camp to set the smaller one up with windows. when I set up the larger one with 10.6, do I have to use the install disks, or can I just copy all of the files from the old disk to the new? Are there any hidden files that I need that might get left behind?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 2009 13" Aluminum MBP. Recently I installed a Seagate Momentus 7200RPM 500GB drive in it and used CarbonCopyCloner to move the data from my previous drive to this one. I then made an 85 GB BootCamp Partition, but removed it. According to disk utility I now have a whole partition dedicated to OS X that has 312GB of free space remaining, but according to Finder, i only have 230GB remaining. To try and rectify this and because I could not get BootCamp Assistant to format my drive, i tried repairing disk permissions, which worked, but then I tried Verifying Disk and I got this error message- Uploaded with ImageShack.us The thing is, i would love to do this, but I lost my install disks. My question is, instead of calling Apple for new restore disks, Can I just go pick up a fresh copy of 10.6? Or is there an alternative to use? Or should I just screw BootCamp and go with VMWare Fusion. I just need Windows to play COD4 and BF:BC2.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just purchased the SN 10.6 family pack and would like to make a backup of the Install DVD. I have several MACs in the family and want to make sure I have an extra disk in case something happens to the original. I have Toast Titanium and I believe I can make a copy of the disk. Will this be an exact copy and will it be bootable from the DVD drive on my iMac? Are there any special settings in Toast that I have to use.? I only recently purchased Toast and am not too familiar with it at this point.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a problem with my MBP. It finally came back from repair centre today. My Harddrive was broken, so they put a new one inside. Everything worked OK, until I decided to install Snow Leopard, and after that put my superduper backup from my external HD to the MAC hd. I restarted the MAC while I kept holding down the "C" button, (snow leopard disk inside) I went to install OSx menu,-> Disk utility-> MAcintosh HD->last TAB (can't remember the name)-> and dragged the External HD in the first bar, and mac HD in the Second. Also I checked Remove Mac HD when copy the Backup to MAC HD. I pressed the button and the EST time was about 2 hours. After one hour my HD made some noise and gave me an error: Something with Failed to load or Failed to copy. After that it did removed my Macintosh HD drive. It's just Gone! I don't know what to do.. Can't install my mac it's completely useless right now..
Here are some pictures describing the situation:
I have 2 Macbook Pro's 15".I want to clone one onto the other.Do I copy the contents of the disk via Migration Assistant? I tried this and saw that it wanted to add the contents, not replace them..Do I use the Snow Leopard Install disk and go to Utilities? I couldn't see what I needed to do.

I have a windows 7 partition on the flipside of my HD anyway to get these both backed up? I know Time machine has done my Mac back ups for the past age but I don't know what to do about windows.

I'm trying to copy my backup drive data to a new drive. The first one ran out of space, so I bought a larger one and am trying to transfer all the data. I have tried using disk utility, but it refuses to copy it. Also dragging and dropping the file doesn't work either.

I'm using a macbook and would like to copy over several games over to my friend's external harddrive. The files are rather large -8gigs, 6gigs, 4gigs.
For some reason it wont allow me to copy the files to the HD. only prompting me with the message "the operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0)".
I presume that it's formatted correctly because I was able to copy a smaller file (363megs) without any troubles. However, whenever it involves these large torrents it prompts me with that same message.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Disk Utility (stand alone, on a USB key) to make backups of my system disk to an external disk and then transfer it from my home system to a MacBook and vice-versa when I need to travel.
Recently, I upgraded from 10.9.2 to 10.9.3 and, not long later, to 10.9.4. In the same period, I also had an increase (not a very big one, just a few GB, less than 15) in the occupied space of that system disk. The current amount of data on it is 164.64 GB.
I'm not sure if my problem comes from the sub-version upgrade, from the increase in data size, from both, or from something else. The home computer is an iMac with a 318.88 GB internal disk. The MacBook has a 500 GB internal disk. The partitions used on the external disk to make bootable backups are 400 GB big.
I can backup both internal disks to the external partitions (and boot on the resulting external disk when I check that it is usable). I can also copy the external backups to the MacBook system disk and boot on the result without problem.
But, recently, Disk Utility has started to refuse copying the content of the external backup partitions to the internal disk of the home system. It says there is insufficient space on the target volume. If the error message is correct, it means that I cannot backup 164.64 GB of data on a 318.88 GB volume!
For the record, the external backup partitions are OK when verified with SOS.

I currently back up onto a 250gb external hard drive using Time Machine. This is now full, so today I purchased a new 1TB drive. I would like to keep all my backups in one place, so would it be possible to copy all my past Time machine backup data/files to my new disk and then start backing up to this in the future. How to do I get Time Machine to see that I have swapped disks when I come to restore files? Will doing this confuse Time Machine?
