I am using a iWork 09 and I want to create a database that is relational for tracking student meeting and the duties I perform. I heard that Filemaker pro would do the job but I am interested in purchasing the program.

We run a small travel company, and are trying to create a relational database or something that will help with producing an itinerary for quotes/invoices and manage the bookings (i.e.: paid, confirmed etc). I have the design all mapped out on a lovely piece of paper, and I know exactly what needs to happen. However, I can't get this into computer speak! SQL etc., are beyond me, but am pretty nifty on most Office type applications. Initially the plan was MS Access... but this can't be used on a Mac...

Then I tried Open Office Base, but am finding it very different to Access - not sure if the limitations are within Base or within my knowledge (I am trying to learn). Filemaker may be an option, but it looks as if it may get a bit expensive as we would probably need Advanced (Pro 10 looks a bit basic?) - and hence why I used OOBase.

I would like to be able to create some sort of Database. In this database I would add notes (for instances academic notes about a book or any kind of subject) and also be able to then search for specific Word and see the search results! Imagine some sort of a Journalist Database, with ideas and notes.

OS X :: Screensaver Progress Bar Labeled (Creating Mosaic Database)
Every time my screensaver launches, it shows the same image from my photos folder, and a progress bar which is labelled "Creating Mosaic Database...". It never seems to finish, and the screensaver always quits. When I try to change the settings in System Preferences, specifically when I go to Screensavers, System Preferences "unexpectedly quits." I'm running 10.5.0 on a 24' iMac 2.4Ghz.

Numbers 09 :: Importing Appleworks Database?
I think it's time for me to move my database from Appleworks while it's still working. It's either now or a couple years from now. I have no experience with spreadsheets, I've always used a database.

It seems that people i know are doing the same things with a ss programs. Here's what I have: 12 columns across, 3000 lines. Each line is a product each column is for things such as costs, retail prices, name, manufacturer, whether it is current or discontinued, etc.

I do no calculations, only printed reports in a grid form (list in Appleworks), such as reports for only current products, specific manufacturer. reports omitting sensitive info such as wholesale costs. I do need to print these reports. I do no calculations.

I'm sure Numbers will do what I want? I remember reading about difficulty importing Appleworks to Numbers. Input ? Even though I'm sure it's not difficult I would even consider pay someone or a service to import and set up like I have in AW.

Numbers 09 :: Database Does Not Have Valid Format
I have been using Numbers for a couple of weeks now. I have a database I created with critical data. It was opening and working fine. Today it will not open. I get a message...."could not be read, the database does not have a valid format". Is there a way to recover the data?

Numbers 09 :: Possible To Update Document From PHP Database
I have an online php database attached to a webstore that contains product inventory. I have an offline Numbers spreadsheet that we use for keeping track of our inventory.

Periodically I have to manually update the Numbers document with the current inventory from our website (as stored in the PHP database).

Is there a way to have the Numbers document "automatically" update the values of cells based on the contents of the PHP database?

Numbers 09 :: Creating An Invoice Generator?
But i'm having trouble with one very important formula for my business.

I'm trying to make a cell generate invoice numbers automatically when you save a spread sheet.

For example: if i would to open my invoice template, i would like it to number it 1, so that when i save it and give it a name. The next time i open it, it will number it 2.

Is this possible?

Because i know the date formula can do this automatically, but is there one for numbering too?

Applications :: Creating Graphs In Numbers?
I just have a quick question about Numbers (iWork '09). I need to graph some supply and demand graphs for school. How would I go about doing this? Whenever I create a graph based on a chart, it just plots each row as it's own line. I can only edit the values in the Y-axis, and obviously I need to be able to work with the X-axis as well.

Update: I played around with it more and figured it out. I guess you have to graph it as a scatter plot and then choose to connect the dots, and remove the dots, rather than choose the line graph, whose icon looks just like a graph of supply and demand.

Numbers 09 :: Path Towards Creating Timeline With Graph
I'm trying to figure out how to build a timeline in Numbers '09 with a graph. I'm trying to build say a one year graph with daily increments on the X Axis.

Numbers 09 :: Creating Photography Invoice From Scratch
I am trying to create an invoice from scratch. I don't know enough about numbers to accomplish my feat, however. I fear it may be too great. I want to have images with tables linked to each image. The tables will be the order from each image (4x6, 5x7, 8x10, etc.). Then, I need to total the order from each image into a grand total and include any other products such as folios, collages, frames, or other special products, tax, shipping, etc.

Numbers 09 :: Creating Fromulas Across Multiple Cells
I thought this was simple, but am having trouble - essentially, I want column C to calculate Column A * Column B.

In Excel, one could select a range of cells for example C1:C10, and create this formula:

A1:A10*B1:B10=C1:C10

so that each cell in Column C works like this:

C1 = A1:B1
C2 = A2:B2
C3 = A3:B3

Numbers 09 :: Creating Master Table And Using It To Populate Other
I am a novice at using Numbers and I need some direction. I am looking to create a master table with information for our summer camp. This table will include vital information such as name, address, etc. along with cabin assignments, tuition received, and more. We will separate this information into smaller tables that different portions of that master table for specific use. Such as: names and addresses for leaders, names and tuition for registration, etc. My goal is to type the information into the master table and have it update the other tables automatically. Can someone direct me how to format the master and sub tables so that this is possible?

Numbers 09 :: Creating Cells With Differing Heights?
In any given Row is it possible to have different cells with different heights because I've found that if I set the cell height to be e.g. 1cm then all the cells in the whole row are 1cm which isn't always the desired effect.

I just got my first Mac and iWork 09.

I'm trying to create a graph in Numbers 09 based on a quadratic equation however I cannot find any way of doing this.

I just need to some simple graphs based on equations such as y = x^2 + 3x + 5

Oh and another question. If I have a graph with points based on X and Y data, can I turn the trend line into an equation?

Numbers 09 :: Project Register Creating Statistics From Sheets
My task is to put together a master projects register. In this register are separate sheets for each individual year; "2010", "2011", "2012". Also in this register I want to create a "statistics" sheet summarizing all the data from all the individual years together. What I would like to find out is how to create separate formulas in the "statistics" sheet that will get certain data from all the other individual sheets and put it together to create individual totals.

An example would be the amount of projects the company has done overall since it started. How would I create a separate formula for this? Another example is how many projects have been done in each continent of the world but are complete. How do I create a separate formula for this? There is a status column and under it has two options, "Complete" or "Incomplete". I also have a "Continent" column and under it has the names of all the continents, "Africa", "Asia", "Antarctica", "Australia", "North America", "South America", "Europe".

I'm trying to create a document in which I can enter my tax-deductible expenses for a year and then print them out for my tax accountant. It would be nice if I could enter the expenses in any order and then have it sort the expenses into different tables by category (office, postage, equipment rental etc.). I used to use Quicken for this but I no longer have that app and am hoping to use a spreadsheet.

Numbers 09 :: Creating Bank Account And Trust Fund
I was told at our local Apple Store that Numbers '09 is what I need to create a bank account that would be earning compound interest and have monthly (rent) withdrawals. My aunt's iMac here does have Numbers. I used the Checking Account Template. It's a Trust Fund, or bank account, that would have started (or been funded) Feb 2008. I need to know what its current balance would be come Feb 2011, with having once a month withdrawals (rent payments) and earning otherwise a compound interest rate of 3%. To explain, this trust was never funded and now since the Estate is now finally being settled.

I need to know how much I am exactly entitled to. That is, how much interest I should have earned, what the balance would be now if it had been funded in Feb 2008 earning then 3% interest for these past almost 3 years. Of course, there were monthly withdrawals for exactly 24 months. My Dad died Jan 2010 and rent was paid through Feb 2010. I have a list of what his exact rent payments were every month (to the cent) roughly around $2,600/month. I thought I could create this hypothetical bank account/Trust Fund in Numbers to see what its current balance would be right now, but I'm having trouble.

Numbers 09 :: Creating Multiple Tables From A Single Table
I have a table in one sheet that includes names in one column and then data about each name in multiple rows. Example A1 - Tom, A2 - Canton, A3-35, A4-2007. Then in A2 is starts over for a new name: A2-Bill, B2-Burbank, B3-43, B4-3532

I'd like to be able to create a separate table for each name including SOME of the other related data. Example: Tom, 35, 2007

I can brute force by copying the data into each new table but is there a way to do it for one and then automate the other new tables?

I've created a spreadsheet for budgeting purposes and to keep track of my money (student). I know that on certain days (like Payday) the amount I will be paid and obviously the date. I want to be able to put this in my table but not to be added to the formula until that date is passed or met.

For Instance, If I get paid on 01/09/10 and put this in my table, the formula will add this amount to the total income for the month of September. The funds have not actually been paid to me however, so they need to be excluded until they are paid i.e on the 01/09/10.

I am creating a line chart with a value axis (y) with a minimum value of -10 and a maximum value of 100. I am trying to create a set of cards with the numbers 1 through 100. Each landscape 8.5 x 11 card will have two numbers, one number on each half of the card. The sheets will be cut in half. The individually numbered cards will be used as bidder numbers at auction. The winning bidder holds up this number for the auctioneer to see and record.

Numbers 09 :: How To Make Slash Between Numbers Instead Of Letting Numbers Do Divisions
I want to type something like "1.620/1.619" in one unit cell in numbers, which means the value could be either 1.620 or 1.619, but the software keeps thinking I am doing a division of these two numbers and gave me a number 1.00061766522545 in that cell. I tried and found that I could easily type this kind of format in excel, but how could i make it in numbers?

Just spent a couple of hours compiling a job tracker which I was hoping to be able to use as a template for multiple job... the idea being each summary cell from each Numbers job document would feed into a master summary Numbers document.. but from the posts I've seen looks like Numbers doesn't link to external files.

Has anyone found a workaround for this yet?

Numbers 09 :: Address Book Cant Read .csv-files Exported From Numbers?
I can hardly believe this myself, but please try. Numbers separates fields by semicolons while exporting my address data to a .csv file, which seems completely feasible to me. When trying to import this into Addressbook, the applications moans that it cant import this file because it is not valid.

Do programmers from separate groups at Apple ever test whether their Apps work together? I just expect them to do so and I cant imagine a case more simple then that. This is really poor. The reason why I put this complaint in the Numbers discussion is, that there is no forum for Adressbook (whereas iCal got his own - why?).

And the reason why I pick up this topic again in a new thread is that the other thread I found related to transferring data from Numbers to Addressbook took a weird twist when they resorted to writing a complicated and elaborate Apple Script for this basic task. The Script provided there messed up with valuable Address data in the first version, so I am not going to try it here.

I just took the search and replace functionality of my text editor to solve it for me. But I still believe that this should work without headaches right out of the box. So Addressbook programmers please hurry up, go, fix it. It is just too distressing. Imagine, I did this in public with Windows guys around. I dont want to experience such again.

Numbers 09 :: Copying Text On Website, Pasting In Correct Format In Numbers?
I apologize if this has been covered before but I could not even think of keywords to search for...I am looking at a table of sales & sales revenue on a website. From this, I highlight and copy the content which is 6 columns wide by however many sales there were that day. When I used to paste this into Excel I would select 'Paste Special' and then 'Paste as text' (as opposed to html).

With iWork when I paste the data it all appears in one cell! I have tried everything to paste it other ways or to reogranize once the data is in numbers but can't figure it out.Help! this is killing me! I love numbers but need this function as I do not want to be creating and downloading .csv files all day.

However, it takes some getting used to.I'm trying to write a simple script so that I can click in a cell on sheet 2 of my document, and the script will copy the row containing that cell to the end of a table on sheet 1.I've taken two approaches, but gotten stuck on both.(a) select the row, use keystroke to copy the row. I want to paste (again using keystroke) the row to the other sheet, but I need to bring that sheet to the front and target the table, and I don't know how to do that. "activate" doesn't work on the table level, just on the application level.tell document 1 of application "Numbers"

(b) in the other approach, I just copy the row cell-by-cell, as I've seen in examples here (probably copying from Yvan's excellent code). I learned that I have to copy the format, but the problem is this: I have 90805 on the source sheet, and even when the format is copied it comes out as "90,805" because the "format" property doesn't include the boolean for whether to show delimiters; similarly "$175" becomes "$175.55" because the "format" property doesn't include the number of decimal places. But I couldn't find the properties for these in the Numbers dictionary.
