Software :: Won't Watch Dvds On OS 10. / Making Noise
I am having troubles trying to watch DVDs on my iMac. I have Mac OS 10.1 (yes, I know, very outdated; the system is old, and the screen is going, so I don't want to waste money getting a new OS when I could just get a new Mac with it pre-installed.) Whenever I put a DVD into the internal drive, I can hear it trying to load the disc. Mind you, it's making much more noise than if I were to put a CD into that drive. Also, I do have an external drive (Que! Fire brand.) When I put the DVD into that drive, it also sits and loads. I used to be able to watch DVDs thru the internal drive, before my dad wiped the hard drive clean.

OS X :: Won't Install Tiger / Showing Apple Logo Screen And Making Noise
I just bought an iMac G5 off ebay and today I tried to use the Tiger install dvd because the previous owner had deleted software like textedit, etc.

Anyway, I put the disc in and clicked on Install Mac OS X, then clicking restart. once the iMac shuts down and begins to restart, as it is on the grey screen you can hear the disc being read, then as the background goes a different shade of grey and the Apple logo appears, a minute or so passes and then the iMac begins making a lot of noise. I went away for 10 minutes, came back and it was still doing the same thing.

So I'm basically looking for help because I really want to erase and reinstall everything.

MacBook Pro :: System Making Mechanical Noise / Noise Before Start Up Sound
My first generation unibody Macbook hasn't had any problems to this date but now it's constantly making that mechanical loading-like noise which is usually heard when the Macbook is switched on (the noise before the start up sound) or when the lid is opened to wake up the computer. Is there a fix to this?

IMac PPC :: G3 Slot Loading Makes Noise When Plugged In - Won't Turn On
When I plug it in, the computer makes a horrrible noise, and then when I press the power button, it flashes, and the noise becomes much louder. It origionally turned on to the hd selection screen when I first got it, and I accidentally left it on all day. When I got home, it was making the noise. I know it is not the hard drive, because it dieson't have one, and Imacs don't have fans.

MacBook Pro :: Laptop Won't Turn On And Won't Hold A Charge?
I put my 17" Macbook Pro to sleep overnight without the power adapter two nights ago, and when I woke up yesterday it wouldn't turn on, even with the power adapter plugged in. The battery was almost dead when I put it to sleep (2% charge), but after leaving the adapter plugged in all day yesterday the battery indicator on the bottom only has one light glowing solid.I've removed the battery and tried to start it with just the power adapter, I've tried Ctrl+Cmd+Power Button, I've reset the PRAM, I've reset the SMC, and it still doesn't work.

MacBook Pro Won't Turn On Won't Charge?
My MacBook Pro's battery died yesterday, so like I always do, I put it in its charger. But for some reason, the LED light won't turn on.So therefore, my computer won't charge. I purchased my MacBook pro in July, so the battery shouldn't be replaced now And when I use my charger on my friends MacBook pro, it works fine.

OS X :: MacBook Pro Won't Turn On..
Well I bought a new 15" MacBook Pro in January 2009. And for the most part it's worked like a dream.

Last night I was using it as usual, when suddenly I heard a very brief, quiet internal noise and the computer turned off immediately. It was as if some vital component inside the computer said "screw this" and stopped working.

Now when I press the power button, absolutely nothing happens. I've tried using battery only, AC only, and both. Nothing works.

I've scheduled a phone call with Apple support, but until then. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary when this happened, just browsing the web.

MacBook Pro :: Making Clicking Noise When Moved
I have a 13.3" Macbook pro june 2009 and it makes a clicking noise on the right below the keyboard and beside the touch pad. It is not constant and only does it when picked up quickly or moved sharply or tapped on that corner. I am not rough with it but if I move to change my sitting position it happens and it does it when on or off. Any thoughts please was thinking maybe some sort or anti shock device in a component? No other noises the rest of the time and no performance changes.

MacBook Pro :: Superdrive Making Clicking Noise?
I recently had my New 13.3 in. Macbook Pro displayed replaced and now when I lift the Macbook, the superdrive makes a clicking noise similar to the sound when a dvd-rom can't read a disc. There is no dvd in the drive during this time. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem with their Macbook Pro.

I have another question, when I received my macbook with the replaced display, the display had several patches of dirt and an line scratch underneath the screen. Will apple replace the screen for me again or is it possible to have the entire macbook replaced? This is very frustrating to have to send in my brand new macbook for repairs twice in one month..

MacBook Pro :: Making Humming/buzzing Noise?
Yesterday I started up my MacBook Pro that I've only had for about 9 months. I immediately noticed that there was a barely audible buzzing / humming sound coming the inside of the laptop, most likely in the fans. I don't know how long this has been going on, and I really don't know the cause of it. So is this something I should be worried about (the sound is barely audible)? Or is this something that happens after prolonged use of the laptop?

MacBook Pro :: Computer Won't Turn On Or Stay On Unless It's Plugged In
so i left my computer in sleep mode on my desk while I was gone today. When I came back, my computer was dead. I was confused because I didn't leave it on so there was no reason it should have died. Now, it will not turn on unless it is plugged in, and if I unplug it, it will turn off. It doesn't turn all the way, because it will bring back all my data when I plug it back in, but the screen turns grey and it takes a few seconds to do so. Also, just for more information, when my computer is in sleep mode, the white light on the front stops blinking when I unplug the computer.

MacBook Pro :: Won't Turn On Without Battery?
I've done this many times, so I know it's possible. Once my laptop reaches full charge, I usually flip it over and unsnap the battery if I still need to use the laptop for an extended period of time. I do this because I had a faulty battery, and I'm doing everything just to make sure I extend the life of this battery as long as possible.

However, when I went to remove the battery today, the laptop just shut down, even though the power cord was in. I clicked the power button, and it does nothing, then as soon as I insert the battery again, it immediately starts up, as soon as the battery is inserted. I went and checked with coconut battery, and it tells me that the charger is indeed connected to the laptop. Has anyone else had this problem or knows of a way to solve it?

MacBook Pro :: Won't Turn On After Sleep?
i'm typing this with a look of scared-********ness on my face...Ok, so i had my MBP (i think it's the 4,1 model, 2.6 core2duo with 4gb ram BTO) connected to my tv and a couple of external hard drives, set it to sleep last night with the lid open, hit the spacebar this morning to wake it and nothing happened
I disconnected frok everything and tried the following to no avail:-Holding the power button turns it off but hitting it again brings it back to the same state, sounds like it's working but keys don't respond and monitor's off.-I tried resetting PRAM but keys don't respond-Took off battery, held power button down for 20 seconds-Took out the two RAM chips and swapped them around-Tried reconnecting the TV to see if it would re-detect monitors-Closed the lid to see if it'll re-sleep and wake up properly but what it does is that the light on the front lights up but doesn't start blinkingAt this point i can't think of anything else to do so please help me out!I'm taking out both battery and RAM chips and leaving it on the bed in hopes it will lose all charge and memory of this ****-up.Btw, there's no warranty and no applecare on it, if push comes to shove i will take it to an applestore but one: i can't really afford that right now and two: i don't really trust them here in greece

MacBook Pro :: Won't Turn On - Get Stuff Off?
My 2007 MBP won't boot up, or at least the screen won't turn on. The genius diagnosed it as an issue with the logic board. I'm not quite two months out of warranty, so it's $310 to fix -- but I spilled water on it three years ago, and if damage is detected, my repair options start to get pretty pricey. I'm now the proud owner of the base-model 13" MBP, which is great, though it hasn't been 24 hours yet. I'm still planning to send the old MBP out to attempt the $310 repair, and we'll keep it as a backup if they'll fix it. However, I'd really like to get my data off the hard drive before I ship it out. I keep hoping it will magically boot up -- it's come back to life a couple of times since I started having this problem -- but I can't expect it to.

What is the easiest way to get my info off the hard drive so I can load everything onto my new MBP? I don't want to do anything more that would give Apple reason to say they can't do the repair. I know I should've backed up, but I didn't, and I can assure you I've learned my lesson ... the hard way.

OS X :: MacBook Pro Monitor Won't Turn On?
Earlier this summer, my iMac suffered a crashed Logic Board. Thankfully AppleCare took care of the $900 it would have cost to replace it.

Earlier today I put my MacBook Pro to sleep by closing the lid. About 2 hours later I went to open the lid and the monitor never turned on. The white light is on in the front. I restarted it and the light remained on and the monitor did not turn on. I unplugged all devices and restarted and still no luck. The Number Lock key lights up and the sound works fine - but no display.

Could this be another failed Logic Board or a failed chip set from here:[URL]

Are there some other types of methods I should try (PRAM Reset, etc.) If I have to bring it in, thankfully AppleCare covers this Mac for another year. What horrible luck - college just started.

The apple on the cover side of the monitor still comes on.Oddly enough, this happened right after I installed a trial of Photoshop version 13.0.0 Beta. MacBook Pro :: It Won't Turn On With Battery
I have a 2007 Macbook Pro that's still been running great. My battery starting going a few years ago and then completely crapped out about a year ago. I never replaced it and just kept it in there. I finally went to replacae it today by buying a Rayovac battery from a local Batteries Plus store. We popped it into my Macbook Pro and it wouldn't turn on. We plugged it into a charger and it turned on but the battery icon had an "X" through it. We tried another battery and same thing. But when we unplugged the charger, the computer stayed on with the battery power. However, it acted as though it did not detect the battery in there and would not show a precentage charge or estimated time left.

MacBook Pro :: HD Making High Pitch Whining Noise
I bought a MacBook Pro 17" unibody last month, with the optional 7200 rpm hard drive. Everything worked fine, until recently when I noticed that every time I would do something "intensive" for the computer (e.g., using Handbrake to convert a video for my mobile phone) the hard drive would emit a constant high pitch whining noise. It's like a high frequency noise, and it's there for the whole duration of whatever I'm doing (e.g. if rendering files in iMovie takes 3 minutes then it will make that noise for 3 minutes). This is not a noise which I have to get my ear close to the keyboard to hear -- it's very much audible, and it's extremely annoying. It's very annoying given that the computer is not even one-month old. I have run the tests with the OS X disc, and it didn't show any problems. I think that I might have to take it in to my local Apple store, and it's a drag.
