MacBook Pro :: How To Make A 2 To 3 Prong Adapter Ground With My 2 Prong Only Outlets
Nov 5, 2010
I have my macbook pro in my bedroom, & a power strip, but all the outlets are 2 prongs. I dont have any knowledge of electrical wiring, so any suggestions on just changing the outlet to 3 prong wont work for now, nor do I have alot of money to hire an electrician.
I live at home with family, I dont own the house, so I cannot be drilling holes in the wall, running long wires outdoors or doing anything that will blow out our breakers. I need something simple that will not require a major upheaval.
I read that one can attach a wire to the little metal part of a 2 to 3 prong adapter & run the wire to a pipe.
the best that I could do would be to attach some sort of wire to the 2 to 3 prong adapters metal piece, & attach or wrap the other end of the wire to something metal in my room, maybe bring in a small piece of pipe & wrap the wire around that. The outlet is awkward to get to, it is behind my desk. Would this work? & how do I do it to avoid shock or circuit blowout? what type of wire could I use?
right now, I have had the power strip plugged into the 2 to 3 prong adapter with is plugged into the outlet, & it had 2 lights on; one red for not protected, the other green; for grounded, they both glow on at the same time.

Does a Mac Mini purchased in the US have an internal transformer so I can plug it into 220v/50Hz power with just a prong adapter?

I have an old g3 imac, 500 mhz, 20 gb hd, and for some time i've been planning to make it totally silent. As you know it doesn't have fans and the only noise you can hear from it is from the hd.
I was thinking to do it by changing its 20 gb hd for a ssd. As prices are still quite high (even for small ones), maybe a 16 or 8 gb would do the job...
An other option i've thought of, is using a cf to ide adapter, and a cf card, because a 8 gb ssd is still about 50 or 60 $. For smaller ones, i think it's better to leave it as it is now, because at least i'd like to have some music and some movies in it!

This doesn't seem to be working. I go to the page, bring up the inspector, go to page > layout > choose color fill, then use the color wheel, but the background doesn't change. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

One of the template I need to use in Pages 09 has a nice cover page but the background is burgundy. I need to change to something else. I have click everywhere on out side edge but I cannot edit the background. It shows the fill icon with a blue image looking thing but when I click on the fill icon I cannot select a color. The "define as media place holder" is grayed out.

I have recently come across an extremely cheap ibook (free) which i was able to keep if I got it too work. Well I've been successfully fairly by using it for a few weeks, then it just died. Not sure how it did but it did. The problems seem to be with the flashing (Finder/?) folder on a gray screen back ground. I've already run through the [URL] tutorials of what's wrong and have successfully done a PRAM and a PMU reset with no result. One of the times that I restarted the iBook and after the flashing folder got two new separate folders. One with an arrow turning clockwise on the left, and another folder with an arrow pointing right on the right. Both in blue folders as the flashing folders. Now I believe the problem is that the iBook is unable to find and utilize the Startup Disk. Forums I have read state to put in the reinstall disc, which I don't see how that will work on account of the CD tray not responding to anything I've yet put in there. Not trying with disc until i know that is the only possible solution. Don't want to loose my disc. Maybe some of you have come across this situation and know of a sure fire way to fix it. If not, Ill have to just send it in to some site.

Apple may be laying the foundation for TRIM support in future Macs, a technology that should allow their solid state flash drives to maintain optimal performance throughout the life span of the systems. The Mac maker's most recent 13-inch MacBook Pros display an option for TRIM support in their system profilers on SSD-equipped models, one which isn't present in either the second-generation unibody 15-inch MacBook Pros or the latest refresh sporting Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 processors.TRIM is essentially a command that lets operating systems like Mac OS X inform SSDs of which blocks of pre-written data are no longer in use, allowing them to be wiped clean internally.

Buying both the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter AND Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter is pretty expensive...
I was wondering if I purchase the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, will I be able to use a simple DVI to VGA adapter to use it as a VGA adapter also???
I'm not sure if the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter only sends digital signal or digital & analog signal.

I have the 65W white square adapter for my 17" Powerbook, and I have the Yo-Yo adapter for my 12" Ibook (G3 500 mhz).Is there any reason why I cannot use the 65W adapter on my 12" book in place of the Yo-Yo adapter? (I know for power requirement reasons I cannot use the Yo-Yo on my 17")

My old G4 had no DVD drive and I bought Myst IV, but could not load it. My new MBP uses 10.6.4 and Myst IV does not support anything other than X.3 or 4. Can I use my MBP dvd drive to load the game files to my G4? What kind of adaptor would I use?

Don't want to ask the Apple Store since they'll just tell me I can't, but can I use the 85W power adapter that came with the 15"MBP on the new Air with no damage? Ok, to use in a pinch?
Hmmm, how about the other way around (using a 45W power adapter on the 15"), I am thinking "no damage" just that it would take longer to re-charge?

I have a 13" MacBook that I purchased in Feb 2008, and need to do some presentations from it, so I'm looking for the correct VGA adapter for it. I believe there was some change in the display on the Macbooks, so I'm sure if the current MiniDisplay to VGA adapter sold at Apple will work for fine.

Are there any that a store like best Buy sells that are compatible with a Mac / Macbook? I need to pick up a signal in another room, and the only way would be to run a long USB cord attached to a wireless adapter...but it seems like none of the bigger brands sell Mac-compatible versions. If anyone knows of a compatible adapter, please post about it!

I had an extra 45w power adapter in my office; which I used to use with my Macbook Air. So today, I mated it to my new i7 MBP15 and was expecting it not to work because of insufficient power. But it seems to work just fine.
Is there any harm in using the 45w power adapter at work and the 85w adapter on the roadhome? I'm assuming the 45w adapter just wont charge the battery as fast.

I bought an iMac a couple of years ago and liked it so much I bought a Macbook Pro a week or so ago. I downloaded a tv series from iTunes last night and took the adapter from the iMac and hooked up the Macbook to the tv to watch the show> Well the show plays on the laptop monitor, but the only thing that shows up on the tv is the wallpaper that comes installed on the Macbook (the galaxy thing).

I've recently purchased the Retina MacBook Pro and I wanted to get an Ethernet adapter for it. I was wondering whether it would be any quicker buying the official apple thunderbolt adaptor. Or would it be just as efficinet to buy a cheaper alternative on Amazon (one that uses USB).

I have an older Powerbook Apple MacBook Pro Core Duo 2.16GHz 15" (2006) - A1150 that has been working fine but all of a sudden today developed a problem where it will not start with the adapter plugged in, but will start fine on battery alone. However, once started, if the adapter is plugged in it immediately powers down. I suspected the adapter and tried a known good one and it has the same issue.

Just wanted to share how well the Monoprice USB 2 gigabit ethernet adapter works on the new MacBook Air. It costs only $20. The speed I get is 30Mbyte/s over my wired home network. Here is the link: [URL]. For Mac OS X, you must use the drivers on the enclosed mini-CD as the default Apple ones do not work. For Bootcamp/Windows 7, download from [URL] the chip manufacturer. Works great and much faster than Apple's fast Ethernet adapter or WLAN.

I have a MacBook 13" (not under warranty). When the charger is connected it does not light or charge the battery. I have tested the battery and charger on another MacBook and they are fine. I have reset PRAM and SMC. Cleaned both the charger contacts and the ones on the computer. Occasionally if I leave the charger connected to the computer for several minutes I get a faint flickering light (I cant even really tell if the light is green or orange or sort of both colors combined) My guess is that something has burnt out on the main logic board. I have the computer open and have found one fuse (F 790) that is in tact. Can someone with a service manual give me some test points and possible components (voltages, etc) to check.
