MacBook Pro :: Ejecting External Hard Drive Improperly Which Might Corrupt Data

My iTunes library is currently located on a 1TB Seagate hard drive, which is connected to my MacBook Pro via Firewire port. So I like to have it connected all of the time when I am at home. The problem is this: I close my laptop each night. Many times when I come back to my computer the next day, I open my laptop and get an error message that more or less says that I have ejected the external drive improperly which might corrupt data. Do I have to eject the hard drive every time I close the laptop? P.S. I don't know if this is worth mentioning but I also have an external monitor that is always connected as well.

MacBook Pro :: Corrupt External Hard Drive?
I tried to use Time machine on Mac, so that my external Hard drive was the back up. Unfortunately, I pulled the cable out too soon before it was finished and now the external drive must be corrupt as the Mac won't recognise it.  Is there anything I can do so that the Mac recognizes the external hard drive ?

MacBook Pro :: Seagate External Hard Drive Keeps Ejecting
I have a seagate 1.5T external hard drive and my mac book keeps ejecting and giving me the red box of doom telling me I didn't eject it properly. It just started a week ago or so, but it seems to happen if I move my lap top around too much, or sometimes I am just sitting not moving and it ejects. Most of the time it will reconnect but any idea whats happening? And what is bad about a drive ejecting without you ejecting it? Am I going to ruin the drive?

MacBook Pro :: Retrieving Data From An External Hard Drive?
Last night I backed up my macbook pro to a firelite external hard drive...this morning my mac was stuck in start up (folder with ? mark)

I unfortunately plugged my fire lite hard drive back in thinking I was going to reinstall everything from that (not realising the hard drive was dead) I selected the back up but of course it wouldn't work. I came out of reinstall but couldn't eject the harddrive so unplugged it and got the devise removal sign.

I do not have another mac only a PC and my harddrive isn't a normal usb shape ...it has a --> an wider curved shape at one ends which of course fitted my mac. Is there an adapter for this so I can plug into my PC and check my work is still on there or is there no way to read it?

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Transfer Data From External Hard Drive To New
I had to get a new hard drive put into my macbook pro because it was failing. So, I moved all my data onto an external hard drive so I would not lose anything. But now I cannot get iphoto or imovie back onto my computer. It says I cannot open it because it is a time machine back up. I don't want to have to purchase iPhoto and iMovie again just because I had to replace my hard drive.

MacBook Pro :: External FW Hard Drive Is Unreadable - How To Recover The Data
I had mounted my drive to a G5 tower and it was severely frozen and would not let me shut down. I forced the computer off while the drive was still running and now when I try to mount it it, every computer tells me that the drive I inserted is not readable, and it gives me the option to initialize, ignore, or eject. I don't want to lose any of that data, is there anyone that knows how to recover these files?

IMac Intel :: Removing A External Hard Drive Without Ejecting?
I was wondering if there was any way to remove an external drive without having to hit eject on the computer?

I remember years ago using windows you could set it up so you didnt need to properly eject, as all the writing was done when you asked it to and nothing was done upon eject, so it was possible.

Is there a setting for this, or some kind of trick? Would make things a little easier.

MacBook Pro :: Ejecting An External Drive?
I have a Seagate 500gb GoFlex external drive, which I'm using with Time Machine to backup my MacBook Pro. Now, when ever I eject the drive (by right clicking or dragging to trash) it appears to disconnect from my MacBook, but the drive itself continues running, i.e., the lights stay on and I can still here the fans / drive whirring away. This continues unless I pull the USB cable out. Is this normal? Should the drive completely shutdown upon ejecting? Or is simply 'ejecting' from the MacBook enough for 'safe' removal?

Intel Mac :: External Drive Improperly Disconnected?
External Drive Improperly disconnected pops up after I awake the Mac from sleep?

Mac Intel with Snow Leopard connected with fire wire to an external G-Drive.

Normally this has not been a problem. However I now have 2 external G-Drives daisy chained to each other with one firewire going to the mac.

Everything works normally accept when the mac goes to sleep it thinks the external drives were disconnected when they are not.

OS X :: Recover Data Fom Hard Drive / External Drive Stopped Mounting
So, I've been searching the forums, as I just had a 1TB (well actually a dual 500GB) external drive stop mounting and start clicking on me. I'm trying to find a way to recover files, and I know I've seen a lot of posts on DriveSavers, which. I was searching around, and I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of a company called "OneWorld Data Recovery." It was something I stumbled across, but I can't find any reviews, or nail down anybody who's used it.

Clearly, this seems fairly suspect, but I figured I'd check and see if anybody had ever heard of it or used it. Thanks!

MacBook :: WD External Drive Randomly Ejecting?
I've seen several discussions on external drives randomly ejecting, but didn't see any concise resolution. I have a Western Digital Passport, P/N WD320ME-01 2209A, using the OEM USB (2.0 I think) cable (~12 inches long). My ~4 year old mac book is running OSX 10.7.3. I use this drive for Time Machine B/U. Seemed to work ok (no ejects) when Leopard was the OS, but, after going to Snow Leopard, and now Lion, I get 'disk improperly ejected' errors when trying to run TM, or ever Repair under Disk Utilities. I did get one good TM back up, under Lion, after reformating the drive [extended (journaled)], but the next time I tried to run TM I started getting the 'improperly ejected' errors. Don't know if there is an issue with Lion (and earlier SL), or with WD drives. The fact that it originally worked leads

OS X :: Cannot See Files On External Hard Drive (Data Disappeared)
I am trying to use my hard drive I have had for a couple years to back up some files on my computer, but the data I had stored on there already has disappeared. I previously had the hard drive connected to the Time Machine application, but have not used it in over a year when I received an error message trying to backup my computer using that application.

I know the data I already had on there is still on the hard drive because nearly half of the space on the drive is used up, but when I plug the hard drive in to my computer and open it there are no files to be found. I want to back up the current files on my computer, but I don't want to risk losing what I already had on the hard drive, so is there any way I can find and access the old files again?

I'll include my hardware information on here in case that helps to find a solution:

OS X :: Cannot Copy Data To External USB Hard Drive
Macbook pro 13' running 10.5.8 has intermittent issues with usb 2.0 mass storage drives but not jump drives. Here is the issue, my gf just got a brand new mac book pro 13'. This is great for her no more asking to use my unibody macbook. She plugs in the drive I have used for a very long time with my mac my pac etc. with not a hint of issue. The drive shows up copy's stuff off ok. However when it came time to return the data back to the drive it gets about 10% through and just hangs. Here is what I have done. I first thought ok might need a reboot. Then I went with the ok I will check her disk for issues. This is a 3 day old mac book by the way. I found random permissions errors with quick time which has never been run. After the fix the issue goes away for that boot.

The issues seems to come back after a re-boot or so. I go ok enough of this I format the mac with the system disk, then I update to the latest updates from apple. Plug in the drive and still having issues. Run the permissions repair same issues exactly format to format. I have also run the deep test off the system disk the machine checks out through that so I have ruled out ram on her system as a possible culprit. I am at a loss on this machine. I have gone so far as to format the external drive replace the data from my network server and try that. Still no luck. On my box there is no issue it time machines great it copy's data like a usb 2.0 drive should.

OS X Leopard :: Recover Lost Data In External Hard Drive
When I plugged in my external USB hard drive, Time Machine asked me whether to make it as a back-up disk. (I had no idea how Time Machine works at that time, I was thinking it's good to make additional backups but I didn't want to delete what have been archived in the drive) I have all my photos and music and some other files that I don't use frequently only in this disk. I mistakenly selected erase my external hard drive prior to first time backup, I realized after around 15 seconds, but it's already too late, everything has gone. Is there any way to recover the data I lost?

Snow Leopard :: Recovering Data From A WD External Hard Drive?
I have an older IMAC 20 2007- Leopard 10.6 installed and running great. I have a 1tb WD hard Drive via FireWire and a 2tb hard drive via USB 2 as there is no Seta hook up on the IMAC. I also have a 500Gig WD external hard drive that has a lot of saved movies and programs on it. I Want to recover the movies on the 500 Gig. to the 2 tb or teh 1 tb hard drive. The problems is, when the IMAC recognizes the 500Gig Hard drive it will not copy the movies over as it says "they are in use and cannot be copied" OR the IMMAC will not recognize the 500Gig drive at all, it says the hard drive is not recognized. The movies were copied to that hard drive with the IMAC Why can I not recover them from the Hard Drive? I assume that the hard drive may be on its way out. Does anyone know how to recover those files? Mostly Movies MP3s and some programs. Thank you

Having given up I now can't even eject the DVD. Force quiting and restarting has resulted in the DVD not mounting. Launching Disk Utility juts gives me the dreaded rainbow wheel..

MacBook Pro :: Cloning Entire Hard Drive To An External Hard Drive
Recently I bought 2 identical WD Scorpio Blue 1TB hard drives for my macbook pro 13 inch 2010. My aim is to replace the internal hard drive with one of the two I just purchased and use it as my system drive with Lion, Windows and Data partitions. And for the other hard drive I want to use it as a full disk back up for the internal drive (now 1TB hard drive). After I was done with setting up both windows and mac and data transfer, when I booedt into the recovery partition from the internal drive to clone the drive to the external drive, the disk utility gave me this error (Could not validate source - error 254). I also tried using Carbon Copy Cloner but it only could clone partitions, not the entire drive. Yesterday I downloaded a copy of Clonezilla. It worked fine until it had to clone an exFAT partition (my data partition). The exFAT partition appeared as 'RAW' partition in clonezilla. As a result, the whole partition appeared to be full and clonezilla had to copy every single blocks of data in that partition and the estimated time remaining was about 30 hours. So clonezilla is out too. Just want to ask if there is any program/application (bootable or not) which allows can do a full disk clone to an external hard drive.
