MacBook Pro :: Configuring External LaCie HD Set-Up?

I have just acquired a MacBook Pro (and external Apple 23" Cinema Display), that I will be using to replace my (sad to say) older eMac. I have also acquired a new LaCie 1TB Quadra HD for my external HD source.

I am interested in ideas for the best set-up of the LaCie drive. I will be completely erasing
the MacBook Pro internal drive and reinstalling the latest OSX (Snow Leopard) ... however I would
still like to hang onto my eMac OS10.4.11 while I am in this "transitionary stage". I have tons
of apps including Adobe CS4, Video Editing, Audio editing, and many productivity applications that
will take some time to replace under the new Snow Leopard.

What is the most efficient method of setting up the external LaCie? Would it be best to partition
the LaCie and keep a "copy" of my entire eMac HD on it, so I can boot from OS10.4.11 when I
absolutely need to? Also, is there any need to keep another partition for any Windows use under
Snow Leopard?

MacBook Pro :: LaCie 250GB External Hard Drive Not Recognized
My Lacie External HD that I've had for several years and holds a lot of my files is no longer being recognized on my MacBOok Pro. It used to recognize it instantly when I plugged the USB cable to the USB Port - now, nothing. The Lacie light is on, but my laptop isn't reading it at all. What's going on??? I did a disk utility - it's not showing up there at all either. Is it due to a software update? Don't get me started on losing out on using my entire Dreamweaver/Flash Studio MX 2004. Also, I notice my iPhone is not being recognized in iPhoto anymore either. It is recognized in iTunes. And yes I've heard many folks say email photos should be removed, which I have done so and still nothing!

MacBook Pro :: Lacie Rugged XL 2TB External Hard Drives.
I recently purchased two Lacie Rugged hard drives, a 500GB for client use (meaning, it is given to clients to review raw footage and then given back to me where I then make edits.) The 500GB is calibrated at 50% Mac usage and 50% other and it has been worked out fine thus far. The other hard drrive is a 2TB Rugged XL Hard Drive  has not been used due to the pop up I get when clicking the LaCie Setup Assistant which reads "You can't open the application LaCie Setup Assisstant because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

1.) What does "You can't open the application LaCie Setup Assisstant because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." mean?†

2.) How do I fix it?

3.) Will fixing it effect my 500GB drive?

MacBook Pro :: To Migrate Iphoto Library From LACie External Drive To MBP
I'm expecting my new MBP to arrive soon(to replace the PowerBook G4 which I've had lots of problems with in past yrs) and will pay Apple $99 to migrate contents of PBG4 to MBP. I understand they will not migrate from a non-Apple product, so I need to have a step-by-step on how to migrate my iphoto library from LaCie external drive (and it's not running the most recent version of iphoto - so that will be different on the MBP too).

Concerned also that Apple will update MBP soon - wil they replace if it's with in a certain time frame??

MacBook :: How To Amount LaCie External HDD?
A few months ago I bought a new LaCie "Little Disk" external 500 GB HDD. Has Firewire and USB power.

Formatted for both Windows and Mac (Fat32). Everything was going fine. One day the disk would not eject. That is when the problems started. I had to manually remove the disk without ejecting.

Having done this with my other LaCie external HDD without any future problems (it would always remount) I didn't think anything of it.

Since then, the disk will not mount on either the Mac or the PC. The disk will not mount using the Firewire or the USB power connectivity even though the blue power light is on.

When I open Disk Utility with the LaCie plugged in, Disk Utility crashes. When I open Disk Utility before the LaCie is plugged in and then plug the LaCie in afterwards, it crashes.

I tried plugging the LaCie in before booting my MacBook to see if that worked, but that method prevented the MB from booting at all!

Contacted LaCie about this but have yet to hear back. I'm convinced that this can be solved cleanly without any data loss. Suggestions?

Mac Pro :: LaCie External Hard Drive - Wake / Sleep
I'm on an early 2008 mac pro - used to be on a Powerbook G4. I have a 300 GB LaCie d2 Extreme external HD connected via firewire 800. Both are in 10.5.2. While on my powerbook, the drive behaved normally - fell asleep after no use, then awakened when I needed to access something. On my new mac pro, the drive behaves strangely. I only use it for backup, so it's only accessed once a day. The rest of the time I do not use it. When it's not in use, the drive sporadically wakes and sleeps. I've tried to pinpoint the cause to no avail.

I've tried all the usual suspects: browsing the forums, checking the "hard disk sleep" preference in energy saver, switching the firewire 800 cable with usb and firewire 400, watching activity monitor to see if there's a program accessing the drive (haven't found anything, but that doesn't mean it's not there). None of it works.

MacBook Pro :: Using An External Monitor With It, How To Set It All Up.
I got a fairly nifty AOC 16" USB monitor from TigerDirect.it isn't totally Apple-Quality, but its bright... looks decent at 1366x768... and I got the color of the windows to almost completely match. I would suggest the AOC USB monitor to anyone looking for a cheap way to get a 2 monitor setup. And, it runs from a USB port only... no need to plug it in. Very nice. One drawback of this model is that it does have protrait AND landscape modes... there is a stand on the rear that you twist and can stand the monitor up on its end. However, the Mac drivers don't support this feature! Shucks! I had grandure thoughts of having a document in portrait mode all tall and beautiful. OR, a killer long Facebook window. But alas, this feature will have to wait for now... man, if AOC can release a new driver with this feature; I would say this $140 monitor is a KILLER. Still reccommend it.

First, when I connected it the monitor was aligned or setup on the left hand side... I want the NEW 16" monitor to be on the right hand side just as an extra screen space... so, I opened displays and moved the alignment. I noticed you can go up down left or right... which is cool. So I set it up for the right hand side, so when I scroll off the MBP screen to the right the cursor just goes over to the new screen. Great. However, the dock and toolbar are on the NEW 16" monitor no matter what I do! I want the dock and toolbar on the MBP still; and the new monitor just sitting there ready for me to throw any STUFF on it. How do I do that?

Also, when I use that multiple desktop feature... lol, I forget what its called. Each desktop switches the new 16" monitor to whatever # of screen I'm on. I can live with that if its the only way. BUT, better for me would be if the MBP has the dock and toolbar... can switch between those different screen #s... AND, the new 16" just sits to the right as extra space. So when I switch screen #s, the new 16" stays the same with whatever windows I have open staying there... this might not be doable, and that would be OK... but wondering if theres a way to do that too...

My desktop HD is configured to GUID Partition Table. I noticed this morning that my OWC Mercury External HD is still configured to Apple Partition Map. And, so far, everything works well and the external HD is bootable and appears to be stable.

Keeping in mind the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", should I have erased and reconfigured the external HD to GUID? Is it OK to leave my external configuration as it is or would it be best to erase, reconfigure and clone back? And, is the external HD able to be reconfigured to GUID?

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Set Native Resolution On External Monitor
I have a 13" mbp (9400m), that absolutely refuses to acknowledge the supported resolutions of my external monitor (NEC 2490WUXi). When connected, the monitor model is correctly identified in the "Displays" preferences, but I am limited to lower than native resolution of 1920x1200. I am not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, but after various testing, I believe it is a hardware issue, possibly concerning how HDCP is implemented?

Here is the behavior I have noticed under various configurations:

Using a mini-displayport to dvi adapter (tried with apple and monoprice variants):

Cannot set resolution to higher than "720p". This is with the monitor's "HDCP Mode" set to "on". If the hdcp mode is set to "off" the display is not recognized and no picture is displayed. It seems as if the monitor is being incorrectly recognized as a TV, as the tv options tab is also available (can set overscan off or no)

Using a mini-displayport to vga adapter (apple brand with latest firmware):

Am able to set maximum resolution to 1920x1080 (this is given as a resolution number, not "1080p"). A number of resolutions not available when connected via dvi are available, but am still not able to set output to the monitors native resolution.

I have mirroring turned off, reset pram, tried using the monitor as the main display and secondary (using arrangement tab), rest the monitor to factory defaults, booted the mbp with and without the monitor, and deleted display preferences. Apple phone support was unable to resolve the issue either. I have verified the monitor operates correctly using a dell notebook connected via VGA.

I am running OSX 10.6.1, which was done as a clean install. I am officially out of ideas and very frustrated. My only other option is to take the monitor and mbp to an apple store and see if it can be resolved there. I consider that a last resort effort since hauling the monitor will be a chore. I also believe my 90 day support will be ending soon.

Software :: LaCie External HD Suddenly Not Mounting?
I have a new-ish Mac Mini and a MacBook Pro. I've been slowly migrating my Pro files to the Mini for some flexibility/stability. I've had the LaCie HD hooked up to the Pro FOR EVER. It's only ever been on a Mac--never a PC.

The LaCie seems to be fine.

However, on the Mini, it's suddenly mounting (both partitions--don't ask, I made them long ago and can't recall why) with a little lock at the bottom left of the icon. When I Get Info and look at permissions I have to unlock it and all/any users listed are noted with "Custom" preferences.

I can't R/W--I get "The folder "Stuff" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.
