MacBook Pro :: Black Screen Upon Wake From Sleep When Change Power State While In Sleep?
I'm having this problem where my MacbookPro won't always wake from sleep. OSX is 10.6.3 and fully updated.

I've done a lot of troubleshooting, and I can now replicate the issue 100%:

1 - Put the MacbookPro to sleep by closing lid

2 - Change power source (from plugged-in to battery or vice versa)

3 - open lid - MacbookPro will wake, but stays at black screen and is unresponsive.

Only if I change power state while sleeping will this issue show. Anyone else experincing this issue, and anygot got a clue on what to do?

OS X :: Black Screen When Wake From Sleep
When I wake from a long sleep, my screen comes on but everything is black. If I move my mouse around, the tiles behind the pointer switch over to whatever app is open. When I invoke expose/spaces, the screen fixes itself and displays everything.

IMac :: Black Screen Display When Wake Up From Sleep
For the past few weeks it has been going to a black screen when trying to wake it up from sleep. Either I've put it through too much work lately editing all these photos and its really tired. So, often it wakes up normally and functions fine, well, not really. It is seemingly very slow. It requires a lot of time (more than before) to open up a program or it gives me the "spinning wheel of death" when trying to go to a different page on the internet or open up a folder on my desktop. Amongst other things that require it to think. So It's just a lot slower in general than before.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Black Screen Upon Wake Up After Longer Sleep?
In the last 2 months or so, I have seen my MacMini 2011 OSX 10.7.3 crashing withing a minute of wakeup, after sleeps of more than 2-3 hours.

Sometimes the Black screen occurs almost immediately, sometimes it takes up to a minute after the desktop appears (after logging in). This did not occur until I got 10.7.3 and only within the last 2 months.

Intel Mac :: 2011 Screen Unexpectedly Goes Black (to Sleep), Won't Wake
I'm using an iMac (late 2011) with 10.7.3. I'm doing things on the computer or some process is going on when the screen instantly goes black (no dimming first). If a video was playing, I can still hear it playing, but pushing keys on the keyboard or mouse or pad does nothing to wake the screen. Sometimes pushing the power button a number of times will get the screen to come on, sometimes it won't. When the screen goes black, if an external drive was running and then stops, I can sometimes get the screen to come to live. Sometimes this black screen happens when I'm burning a DVD; when the DVD is finished, I can bring the screen to life. I thought one of my two external drives was bad, so I disconnected it. That seemed to help (though verifying the disk revealed no problems). But a few minutes ago, the screen instantly went black again; no dimming first. There have been times I thought this was associated with a new bit of software, but then it returns even after I delete the suspect software. Sometimes I have to use the power button to shut down the iMac then restart it. Once, I had to unplug and replug the iMac before I could get the computer to respond and the screen to return to life. I don't know if this is a hardware problem (internal or external), a software problem, or some combination...or something I haven't thought of, at all.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Artifacts - Won't Wake From Deep Sleep
So first my machine wouldn't wake from a deep sleep. It went there on its own while I was away. First the screen saver went on, then the backlight went off then the stock screensaver w/ the floating apple logo & my computer's name floated around. Everything was behaving as normal...until I tried to wake it. So I had to use the power button to do a reboot as nothing else would work. Ever since then I've noticed these artifacts with my DefCon Globe screensaver and while playing DVDs. It only happens on the 9400 and not on the 9600 gpu. I've shut it down, restarted it, reset the PRAM. Nothing fixes it and I don't want to have to run the 9600 all the time nor should I have to. Any ideas? I'll contact Apple about it in the morning. here's what the artifacts look like. The image is supposed to be green on black and not have these blue & red images. [URL]

About 2 hours ago i closed my MacBook Pro and it went to sleep. When i opened it again the screen was all black, so i pushed the space button to get it out of its sleep. But nothing happened. I tried to shut it down and then restart. But still all black screen. Its not the battery because its been recharging for two and a half hours. Is the screen broken? Are anything i can do?

Mac Pro :: Black Screen And Can't Wake Up Then
I have a MacPro 1,1 (2006) 2.66GHz that it is always working as a home server.

After some time working idle the screen goes black. When I want to wake up there is no response. The screen turns into safe energy mode blinking his LED light power indication. I have to force shutting down pushing phisically the power button for some seconds.

Graphic Card problem? I have another one but I don't test it for now.

I have made a PRAM reset and SMC reset shutting down the MacPro, unplug the power and push the power button for 10 seconds. No results at all.

Even putting Energy System Preference on NEVER (computer sleep and screen) after some time (2-3hours) the MacPro goes to black screen.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Froze After Sleep And Gone Black
I was using my 2 week old mac book pro yesterday, finished using it and I thought I had turned it off, and closed down the screen. This afternoon I opened up the screen and hit the "on" button. I was tidying a few things in the room and I noticed the usual routine for switching it on wasnt happening. I looked at the screen, nothing happening, I switched the on button again, still appeared to be nothing happening. I plugged it in, when I was plugging it in I noticed, cos the way the light was shining that facebook was on and a little dialogue box in the centre. the box said: "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" The options to choose from were: "Restart" "Sleep" "Cancel" "Shut down"

I've tried to click on each option and outside the box but all I have is a little disc rotating, looks like a loading symbol or the windows egg timer equivalent. It has been like this for a few hours and i've tried everything my limited knowledge can help me with! Can somebody please help me! To sum up, 2 main problems:
1.Backlight isnt working (and I've tried using F1 and F2 to alter it, it has no effect)
2. Cant do anything with the computer, its frozen, cant even switch it off!

MacBook Pro :: Black Screen At Start Up And After Sleep
My macbook pro is only a month old, and I've done nothing to it besides write documents and use facebook. Every time I close the lid so the computer can "sleep" it does, but when I open the lid back up, it refuses to wake up. My friend has the same computer and automatically her screen lights up when she opens the lid from sleep. My screen will stay black up to 10 minutes sometimes. Why is this happening? Should I bring it in to Apple? Also, when I shut my computer down, starting it up is another hassel in itself. The screen goes white like it's suppose to, but only for a split second. The apple in the center never shows up, and the screen just goes black. It's very aggravating and I feel like I'm the one with the only messed up mac.

MacBook Air :: Kernel Panic - Black Screen On Wake Up
This is my THIRD 2010 MBA. The first one had a few kernel panics and about 50% of the time, black screen on wake up. Took it to the genius bar w/in a week of getting it and they replaced it. Second one started okay and then had the same issues, progressively worse. They replaced it again, deemed it a freak second lemon. Upgraded the hard drive (I think? Not the 2gb/4gb, but the other one). It was fine for about two weeks. Then I installed the software update that was supposed to fix the wake-up problem, or so it seemed. Now, I'm back to 50% black screen on wake up and have had at least 10-15 kernel panics in the last week. When I open the computer if it's been asleep, I have about a 50% chance of black screen and I have to press/hold the power key and restart. You can just barely see the black screen fade (like, you can see a horizontal line moving down it, like a blacker shade)? I'm banging my head against the wall. I don't want to take it back AGAIN and replace it AGAIN to have the same problem come up. I've purposely barely installed anything on this computer. Even Office is still in the plastic wrap. Here's the latest report (the # of panics seems to reset every once in a while? It was at 7, and now it's at 1 again):

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Display Remaining Black After Wake Up From Sleep
I have very recently upgraded to Lion on my late 2009 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.When the machine goes to sleep on wake up - instead of going to the log on screen, the display remains black but when I move the mouse the display creates a grey pixel trace wherever the pointer should be. I also end up with the desktop clock in the top right.

To log on, I have to literally "colour in" the area where my profile icon should be which enables me to input my password. Also, on wake up, any applications that I had open like Safari, Word, iTunes etc are all closed and not open in the dock. On a separate matter, when this happens I cant wake my imac up to access my itunes library for home sharing on my ATV3 and 4S.

MacBook Pro :: Black Screen After Waking Up From Sleep With Connected Dell Display?
I have a 2 month old 13" MBP which I absolutely love. The only hitch is that there is an oddity when connected to my Dell 2008wfp display. It only happens when I wake the MBP from sleep. A number of things happen sometimes. Usuaully, when I wake the MBP from sleep, i get a black screen on both displays and all I can see and control is the cursor. Sometimes the main display will be black, but the MBP display will show the desktop wallpaper, but again, I can only see and control the mouse cursor. It should also be worth mentioning that the keyboard is rendered non-functional as well.

Sometimes, OS X will appear on both displays, with mouse cursor active, keyboard inactive, but I am unable to click anything or interact with anything OS X.

Anyway, I'm at the point where I need to mention this because it happens quite frequently and its getting rather annoying. The only way I can get out of this hang, is to cold reboot the machine. It happens everyday and at least 50% of the time I wake the MBP from sleep. When not connected to the display, I never get this occurrence. Also, this display worked perfectly when I used to own the classic 15" MBP, so its hard for me to pinpoint what exactly is the anomaly that is happening.

Anyone else experiencing this same issue? I am using a mini display port to DVI adapter to the Dell display.

Mac Pro :: Pixelated Screen When Wake Up From Sleep Or Booting Up?
I'm on Mac Pro os x 10.5.4 and having a problem with my computer waking up from sleep or as it is booting up.

As it wakes up from sleep, the screen becomes blank or shows weird, pixelated bars all over the screen. When I try to move the mouse or press something on keypad, the computer freezes after and I would have to force shutting it down by pressing the power. It doesn't always happen, but quite often these days.

Also, when it's booting up, it sometimes will freeze with a blank screen in the middle and won't show the desktop.

Everything worked fine until a few days ago, and i'm wondering what's suddenly causing this problem.

MacBook :: Screen Intermittently Turning Itself Off And On / Sleep And Wake Occurring
I bought a new unibody Macbook around 4-5 months ago and I've generally been very impressed with it. It's my first Mac and considering all the problems I'd had before with Windows PC's, it's quite a relief.Anyway, here's the issue. When hooked up to my 24 inch Dell monitor there are numerous problems. Originally it just started with the screen intermittently turning itself off and on, and there being a sleep/wake issue. I did some research then and discovered that this was by no means a problem confined to me. Knowing this I was prepared to wait until Apple fixed it with a firmware update or something, as the problem was annoying but not devastating.

However since then the problem has got significantly worse. Not only are the screen flickering, sleep wake/issues occuring much more frequently, but there are other problems. For instance, the menu bar and the dock sometimes fail to show, and I've been having a very weird problem with the Logitech mouse I use. Even though I can move the cursor generally I can't click, and when I can, only the right mouse button works. The same is true with the trackpad, so it's not a problem with the mouse.

When these problems occur the system generally seems to be very slow. I've checked the 'activity monitor' and the use of 'system memory' seems to be very high. For instance, at the moment (I'm using my Macbook by itself) I'm running a few applications (Mail, iCal etc.) and I've got 1.09 gb of free memory. Last night I was running exactly the same applications and I must have had less than 0.4 gb of free memory. The pageout numbers were fairly high as well.

It's strange because when disconnected from the external monitor the Macbook seems to work seamlessly. I just don't understand how some of the problems I've experienced (such as the mouse issue) can arise from problems relating to the external monitor setup. What do you think? Should I be worried that these issues are perhaps indicative of a greater problem? Either way, the problems are becoming hard to deal with. Very disappointing.

I've got pretty old MB that was bought back in 2007, and it's been working ok up until today. All of a sudden I can not boot it, the screen stays black. Whenever I turn it on the screen flashs for ~100ms and then remains black, at the same time the sleep mode light is on and off not gredually fading in and out like when it is in sleep mode but sharply. Safe boot didn't help, PRAM reset didn't help, booting into the firmware (CMD-OPT-O-F) didn't work as the screen stays black. . I can hear hard drive working but other then that I see no signs of life (even caps lock and num lock keys don't get highlighted when I press them)

MacBook Pro :: Does Wake From Sleep Seem A Little Different In 10.5.6 From Before
I've noticed that wake from sleep seems a bit different than before. I use my MBP in closed-clamshell mode. Connected are the aluminum Apple keyboard, a Might Mouse (not wireless), and a 20" Apple Cinema Display.

What I've noticed is that upon waking, the backlight comes on (the screen is blank), then there's a slight delay, the display shows everything as it was before sleep, then it flashes blue (my background color) and refreshes, showing what I just saw. It's basically doing the same thing twice -- I guess it's being very sure to check to see whether a display was connected during sleep. There also wasn't the wakeup stage where the screen is dark but the backlight is obviously on.

Has anyone else noticed a change?

MacBook Pro :: Immediate Wake From Sleep?
When I close the lid or choose "Sleep" from the menu, my i7 MBP begins to sleep properly, but then it immediately wakes up again.

That is, the display darkens as with normal sleep, the front sleep-light comes on, then dims down, but just as the sleep-light goes fully dim the keyboard lights up, the display comes on, and the computer is fully awake. It will do this over and over.

Re-start fixes it. Then it may be days before the problem re-occurs, but once it does, re-start is the only fix. Switching users doesn't fix it. Even after logging out all users and selecting sleep from the log-in screen, the computer wakes back up in the same way.

Smartsleep is set to sleep only. Energy saver is set to not wake. This happened in 10.6.3 and in 10.6.4

MacBook Pro :: Panic After Wake From Sleep?
I put my (early 2010, i5, 8Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD, OSX 10.7.4, all other software up to date) MacBook pro to sleep by closing the lid, it goes to sleep, then minutes or hours later I go to wake it up again by opening the lid and see the screen flash briefly (with whatever I was running before sleeping) but then the screen goes black and the MacBook does not respond to anything but a hard reset.I have done the following via tech support or my own research:

Hard drive verified and repaired (it found some folder problems but fixed them) all clear, also memory all clear (using Rember, overnight), opened it up and re-seated just in case, permissions all good. It doesn't run particularly hot either (and the issue only ever happens when it's trying to wake from sleep, so it's cold anyway). Cleared SMC, PRAM, Caches, Started in Safe mode.

I have also removed everything from my Login startup group except for EvernoteHelper and BetterTouchTool, I'm running Chrome as my browser but I tried unintsalling it and moving to Safari but this didn't help either.Issue is still happening, I would guess maybe 50% of the time I open to wake up but mostly when it has been asleep for more than an hour (the case is completely cold).

When I restart the "error report" screen comes up with the following

Interval Since Last Panic Report:414234 secPanics Since Last Report: 4Anonymous UUID:25C06CD4-2D86-43A6-9B1E-CE92D326E89A  Tue Jun 19 08:49:54 2012panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff7f80a7a947): NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100: CFG 0xffffffff 0xffffffff 0xffffffff, BAR0 0xd2000000 0xffffff8113f5e000 0x0a5480a2, D0, P2/4Backtrace (CPU 2),

The only thing I haven't done is an extended hardware test (will do that tonight) and a complete clean install (which I would really rather avoid).

When screen saver puts it to sleep I press the space bar and it makes a noise like it will wake up but then nothing and I can't get it to wake up unless I unplug and start up. (which I know is not good).

MacBook Pro :: Wake Up By Opening Lid - Display Goes Black After Few Moments
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (2.0 GHz i7, 4 Gig Memory, Lion.7 with all upgrades) that has just started behaving strangely. When I put it to sleep by closing the lid and wake it up by opening the lid, the display is normal for a moment or two, then goes black. The keyboard is lit, and clicking on the trackpad gives me an alert sound, but it seems impossible to get the screen to light up. The only way I can get the screen back is to restart the computer. Putting it to sleep by clicking on sleep in the Apple menu works fine (it wakes up normally), but closing the lid doesn't.

MacBook Pro :: Weird Calibration On Wake From Sleep
About half of the time, after waking from sleep, the screen will default to a color profile that I have stored but almost never actually use. Or at least, it appears to do. Opening the display pref pane sets it back to my default profile, even without selecting it. The colors correct as soon as I click the pref pane without me having to actually do anything. It's not a big deal, it barely registers as "small irritant" but it does make me wonder what's going on. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Snow Leopard :: MacBook Pro Not Wake From Sleep
If my MacBook Pro is running while closed with an external display and I unplug it from the display it goes to sleep - as indicated by the white light and the front pulsing. If I then open the MacBook the display remains blank and it is completely unresponsive to any keys or track pad input. The only thing it responds to at that point is holding the power button down until it powers down and then restarting - loosing all work in progress at that point. Before installing Snow Leopard the Mac would wake reliably when opened from this state.
