MacBook :: Randomly Go To Sleep Mode - Hardware Not Responding

Dec 16, 2010

So over the past week I've been having issues with my Macbook randomly sleeping while I'm just sitting here browsing, typing, etc. I reset the SCM already and it didn't help. I checked the console because I figured SOMETHING had to be the issue. Well, I've got the same error twice now... Here's what it is:

As far as I can see, the AppleYukon is an ethernet driver, but I'm not using ethernet at all. Is this also the driver for the Airport because that seems to be where the issue is coming from. I'm using a newer Linksys router with WPA2 security.

Apr 15, 2009

my monitor turn's off but the computer never goes into sleep mode. I've got both my monitor and computer set to turn off at 45 mintues of inactivity. I tried reseting the pram with no success. I deleted the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file. but it still doesn't turn off, only the monitor. I've set it to 1 minute but only the monitor will turn off. Manually putting the computer to sleep work's fine.

Software :: System Not Exiting Sleep Mode / Kicks Back Into Sleep Mode

Dec 29, 2009

As of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.

The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.

How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.

MacBook :: Using External Monitor With New MB (2.4GHz)/monitor Sleep?

Oct 16, 2008

I picked up a new MacBook yesterday and I noticed a weird issue when coming out of "monitor sleep" mode, not regular sleep mode.

When I move the mouse, the external monitor shows what you see in the picture, kinda like a TV with no signal. The MacBook screen works fine so what I just do is unplug and re-plug in the DVI plug and everything is good again.

My 24 inch Dell monitor worked fine with my M1330 and other computers so I know it's not that. Does anyone have the same issue or maybe give me some light on this?

MacBook Pro :: Why Does It Randomly Go To Sleep

Mar 21, 2012

I just recently noticed that in the middle of doing normal things on my MacBook Pro, it goes to sleep randomly. I have the 2.4ghz 13" 2010  model. It happened twice so far within a 10 minute period. It has happened while charging through the AC adapter. It wakes up fine like usual, and when i close the lid and open it up, it actually wakes up faster than normal. I'm wondering if i should contact apple, or bestbuy (i have a 4 year warranty there)

OS X :: MacBook Pro Wakes From Sleep Randomly

Sep 3, 2009

My MacBook Pro has been waking up from sleep at some of the most random times. Usually it will wake up about 5 minutes after I put it to sleep, and if I'm lucky it will stay to sleep when I try again. Sometimes it will even wake up 30 or 45 minutes after I put it to sleep. Currently, I have it connected to an external display with the laptop screen closed at all times. It is running a fresh install of Snow Leopard with barely any apps installed yet (mainly just iWork and Microsoft Offiice). I was having the same problem when I was running Leopard, thats why I did a fresh install. So this eliminates a software issue.

This has been happening for a few months now, but it has just started to become a problem for me. When I was running Leopard I did not have an external display. It was waking up at random times without anything connected to it (no display, USB, or MagSafe connected). I would be sitting next to my Mac, and all of a sudden, I hear the Superdrive wake up sound. I searched and found a thread similar to this, but hopefully it will not have the same solution as the members of the following thread had: "I had this problem with my Macbook. The fix was a logic board replacement." [URL] I have also attached a screenshot of my system.log in Console. I opened up console as soon as my MBP woke by itself. Hopefully someone here will have some idea what all the stuff in console means or maybe be able to narrow down the problem.

MacBook Pro :: Freezes Randomly And Beeps When Coming Out Of Power Down Sleep

Jun 27, 2014

So, I have a late 2011 MBP 2GH i7, OSX 10.9.3. 500GB HD 16 BG 1600 Mhz DDR3.

The problems started a while ago when the computer started freezing at random times. The mouse would move and there was no "pinwheel" but the computer was unresponsive. When I closed the screen the power was still on and the screen did not shut off. The only way to reset the computer was to hold the power button and do a hard reset. I don't remember if I replaced the RAM from 4BG to 8GB Crucial Memory before or after the computer started freezing, either way, shortly after or around the time when I replaced the ram the hard drive also failed.

I replaced the HD with I believe a Seagate hybrid drive with a small solid state segment. This whole time the computer is still freezing and now since I have a hybrid drive the Apple store can't support because it's not factory specs and MacMall here in Santa Monica can't find anything wrong with the hardware or software after running all of their tests.

At this time I have a feeling it is the ram so I purchase a new 16GB Crucial RAM. Everything is great till it yet once again freezes in the same way as before BUT!! Now if the computer sleeps because the battery run's low, when I plug it in and the computer reboots (grey opaque screen with the vertical lines as the bottom) it starts beeping 3 times. I hard reset via the power button and the computer boots up as normal (although a little slower).

Mac Mini :: System Keeps Going To Sleep Mode / Preferences Are Set To Never Sleep

I am running Mac Mini as a home server (turns out to be not a great idea, btw), and even though I set the preference to never sleep or shut down, it does go to sleep when there is no activity for long time. Since I am using it as home server, it should stay awake all the time or at least wake up from sleep when there is incoming ping from other computer, but it just goes to sleep.

MacBook Pro :: Won't Work With Sleep Mode

Sep 19, 2010

I sometimes forgotten to unplug the device before closing the lid. Such as when I'm in a hurry and close the lid of the MBP, only then realize that my iPhone is still attached.

I don't want to put unnecessary stress on the harddrive by it going to sleep, waking up, then sleep again just because that unplugging an USB device woke it up. I notice that this does not happend on my Windows laptop.

Whenever I close the lid to my MacBook it'll go to sleep by turning off the harddisk and the light is blinking. But when I go to pick it up or even move it the Superdrive makes a noise as if its searching for a disk and the apple on the lid/monitor blinks on and off. MacBook Pro :: Cannot Restart After Sleep Mode

Aug 25, 2009

I was using my Macbook Pro, finished, put it to sleep and left for a few hours. When I came back it was off. I try to turn it on and the power light comes on and I can hear the disk for about 3 second and then it just shuts off again. I searched the apple support site for this problem and I've done these things. [URL]. I play computer games on it and often the battery would drain. I would plug it in when the 10 minute warning came up, and the little light on the MagSafe plug would turn from green to amber. Lately it had been turning back to green even though the battery icon on the screen said the battery wasn't charged, sometimes the computer would even shut down even though it was plugged in (again, it was plugged in and the light was green, even though the battery icon said it wasn't charged). Maybe it's related to my computer not turning on?

Tried to boot up but the screen stayed black and the sleep light went on, but did not pulsate. Tried that a few times with the same result. MacBook Pro :: No Sleep Mode When Lid Opened

Aug 9, 2010

To resolve the Macbook Pro 2010 (13") not being able to sleep when the lid is open. I even dl-ed this one app called "Please Sleep" that claimed to solve the issue to no avail. My energy saver power settings have me un-check marking the box that says "turn off hard disks when possible". I have my screen saver kicking in 5 minutes, display sleep going at the 10th minute, and then finally the computer sleep itself at 20 minutes. These are under the "plugged" in condition.

Often times I will leave my lid open, go off and do whatever. Come back to find the screen turned off, and no blinking sleep light. Instead I'll press some keys and find myself on the purple background/initial USER log in screen. Upon logging in all my initial boxes, windows, apps are closed and I am forced to re-open all of them all over. Is it correct to assume that this is a widely recognized issue with the Uni-MBP?
