View 2 Replies View RelatedMy keyboard backlight isn't working... whenever I try to turn it up it gives a circle with a line through it. I have read that there is an ambient light sensor that turns off the keyboard backlight when it is too bright, however that has NEVER happened before and I have used it in direct sunlight and the backlight still obviously works. It's not even bright right now but it won't work. This is very frustrating, there should be no sensor that turns it off it should be the brightness I tell it to be.

I can see the backlight has come on , but it is not at all bright. At least it is nowhere near as bright when compared to a 13" MBP we own. Is there an " Intensity " setting for the keyboard backlight?
so I got my MBP last week. It's the 15" base unibody model. Is there any way to have the computer setup to automatically turn on the backlight keyboard using ac power? Then do the opposite using the battery?
View 2 Replies View Relatedit only illuminates in bright settings. if its dark, it wont illuminate. seems backwards to me, why is it doing this? i dont think it was last night when i first got it.
first macbook pro had a blemish on it. now this one the keyboard isnt backlighting correctly.
just read to put my hand over the webcam and it seemed to kick it back into gear. but then it dies and only takes bright settings to illuminate.
edit: maybe its hitting the sensor (some light from the window at a weird area) in a darker room and it works fine i think.
i have had a 13" Macbook pro for around a year now, and i never really noticed that it didnt have a backlight on the keyboard until my mom bought a 17" one (what a biter, amirite?) and it had the awesome backlight. I've tried researching this and i've downloaded labtick and it doesn't work.
Edit: I've also never spilled anything on the keyboard or anywhere. It's been like this since purchase

Have a mid 2010, 13" mbp; read some posts, but can't find it under system> keyboard settings...
The backlight still lights up behind the keyboard but only brightly in a V shape in the middle of the keyboard, the rest of it is very dim.
This happened to me a while back and I just got the laptop back the other day. They had put in a new keyboard (along with a new hard drive and optical drive - but those are another story).
Just now, my backlight came on since I turned off the room's main light and turned on a small lamp and lo and behold...the backlight is messed up again! Same as it was before, I know for a fact it was working earlier today.
All I've done is change the ram and use migration assistant to get a couple things over. I'm not sure how I could have damaged the light by taking out the 3 screws for the ram door...I didn't put barely any pressure on them. I'm not sure if either of those two things caused it but I'm shocked.
Now I have to give up my computer again. Nearest apple store is over an hour, it was 3 weeks last time I gave my computer up (gave it to school's IT crew, who forwards it to apple - but I get a loaner this way).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got two iMacs in my posession currently from getting replacement machines. Both have screen issues as follows: iMac A - dead & stuck pixels, feint grey horizontal bar running along bottom portion of screen, bottom left corner has noticeable backlight bleed. iMac B - dead & stuck pixels, yellow tinge in bottom portion of screen. So here are my questions. Which iMac should I keep and submit for repair? (does it matter and why or why not?) How does the actual repair get done? For example, if I submit iMac B for repair, could I end up with a grey bar or backlight prob like in iMac A?
Are there multiple layers to the display when they fix specific issues? For example, let's say the dead pixels are on one layer while the yellow tinge is on a different layer, or are both issues on the same layer? I ask because if there are two or more separate layers, there is more of a chance to mess up so I may want to submit the iMac that has the least amount of issues.
Lastly and most importantly, has anyone submitted their iMac for screen repair for these issues and got it back 100% repaired? (no dead/stuck pixels, yellowing, grey bar, backlght bleed) These are #4 and #5 in terms of the number of replacements I've gotten now and I'm sick of it so I may opt to go for repair on either of these existing machines instead of going for replacement #6. But do you think a 6th replacement would be better than going for repair on either of these? Or not?
I have a Macbook Pro (Newest gen.) and sometimes the keyboard backlight wont turn on. I suspect it to happen when I have had the Macbook on standby, but I don't know for sure if that is what does it.
Then i press the backlight-adjust buttons on the keyboard, this OSD-symbol turns up: http://peecee.dk/uploads/122010/Scre..._big_thumb.png
In regards to a 2010 13" macbook pro's illuminated keyboard.
1.) Is there a way you can make the keyboard's backlight become brighter in low light situations?
2.) Is there a way for the backlit keyboard to turn off in lit rooms and turn on in dark rooms?
For some reason the backlit keyboard becomes dimmer in low light situations. I'm finding it really irritating. I have a feeling this is the way it is suppose to be so that the keyboard doesn't blind you. Any programs to hack the light sensor?

I have tried a SMC reset 3 times, I have tried deleted the plist file and I have tried the finger over the isight lens and nothing is working. Â
The buttons work fine and it increases and decreases on the screen, it is just there is NO LIGHT whatsoever! Â
I don't know what else to do and don't want to send my laptop off to get fixed if it is just a simple thing I can do.Â

I was surfing the web when my keyboard backlight started to fade on and offat somewhat regular intervals. After about a mintue or two of this, the backlight just went off all together. Now, when I press the F5 or F6 key to brighten or dim the keyboard, the keyboard backlight does not respond. The usual screen pop-up that shows how bright or dim the keys are no longer increases or decreases but shows the symbol of O with a slash through (like the no smoking symbol).

Is there anyway to turn it totally off?
My backlit keyboard has recently started to act up. It has recently started at random times to not let me manually adjust backlight at all, randomly turning it off and disabling the two buttons to adjust it. It is a Unibody MacBook 2.4
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust got a new MBP 15" AG this week and was wondering if you can adjust the sensitivity of the keyboard backlight. It seems to come on even in a fairly well lit room and I mainly only need it in a completely dark room. So I find myself hitting the backlight keys to turn it off and then whenever it wakes from sleep goes back to full bright. Didn't find anything in the keyboard preferences and found a program called Lab Tick which will take care of the level on wake.

I have been scanning through the forum looking for a solution, but have yet to find one that works:
Here is the situation:Macbook pro early 2011, lastest update of lion, My keyboard backlight is abnormally dim when set on the max setting. When comparing my current illumination to a properly working keyboard, which i had just a few days ago, the current brightness would be about a level two - three on the illumination scale.
The associated SMC functions appear to be working properly, besides the keyboard illumination.
Oddly: The light momentarily starting working yesterday and went back to full brightness for about an hour, then regressed backed to the problem of being abnormally dim.
What I have done to troubleshoot:Resetted SMC several timesseveral trials of going to a dark roomclicking and unclicking of the "automatic illumination" ticklight does not work Is this a problem with Lion? as there are several characteristically similar senarios involving the keyboard backlight and lion?

After a little spill of coke, my keyboard becomes sticky. I bought new one from ebay and replaced it. Everything works fine except keyboard backlit. I tried basic solutions such as SMC reset, check cabling again but not worked.Â

I've noticed that the system preferences for the keyboard backlight settings only seem to be partially working on my Mac Book Pro 2011. This might be since I updated to 10.7.4 or applied the firmware update EFI 2.7; I can't say which since I did the two close together. The keyboard still lights up and the slider that sets the time-out for illumination still works as do the F5 and F6 keys to dim and brighten the light. However, the preference setting seem to completely ignore the tick box to select whether you want the illumination function on or off.
