MacBook Pro :: Trying To Use Extended Desktop

I typically use my 13" MBP with a 20" LG monitor in extended desktop mode. I would regularly plug in my computer when I got home to do work, and unplug it when I left the next morning. I hadn't used extended desktop for a few days, and the next time I plugged in the monitor, it came up with weird resolution with a different aspect ratio and an off center picture. The option for 1600 x 900 at 60Hz isn't listed in system preferences anymore. Do I have a hardware problem here? I did switch to a shorter VGA cable to reduce clutter on my desk before this problem occurred, but I can't get extended desktop to work properly with my old cable, so I don't think its a faulty cable.

MacBook Aluminum :: Mirroring Image Or Extended Desktop
Most of the time, I use my Macbook with a Dell Projector, that simply mirrors the image on the Macbook, which is what I'm used to doing. Last night, I plugged into a 3M Projector, which projected as an extended desktop. I tried to find a setting to turn off the extended desktop, but could not find anything, and the closest I could come to with the projected image was arranging where it existed in context to my Macbook. I know previous Macbooks used the F7 key, apparently that doesn't work on the Unibody Macbooks.

Final Cut Pro :: Getting Video Playback Instead Of Extended Desktop?
I just installed an HD TV to use as a playback monitor. It worked OK for a couple of days, sometimes though not showing video. Now it only acts as an extended second desktop monitor and won't play video out of final cut. I've checked the video playback settings and they are still set to go through the multibridge pro setting of Blackmagic NTSC - 8 bit (720 x 486) for standard playback.

MacBook Aluminum :: External Monitor Not Going Full Resolution On Extended Desktop?
I have a Gateway widescreen 1680x1050 resolution monitor plugged into my 13" Macbook Aluminum computer. When I have both my external and built in display turned on extended mode, my external monitor only goes up to 1600x1000 resolution, which is obviously lower than full-res. When I close the lid of my Macbook (and run the external display only), the external display goes up to full 1680x1050 resolution. my Gateway external display going to less than full res on extended display mode.

Hardware :: How To Get Dock On Extended Desktop
I just hooked up a Dell monitor to my MacBook. I will be using it in clamshell mode 98% of the time. I have the MB on the right side of the monitor. I want to drag applications back and forth between screens. Currently, I have to drag off the left side of the external. How do I drag off the right side of the external and onto the left of the MB? I don't want the MB on the left of the external on my desk. Make sense? When using both screens, how do I get the dock on my external rather than on the MB?

OS X :: Settings To Open Video Only On Extended Desktop?
I have an external display for my MacBook Pro, and I'd like to run some short tutorial videos on the external display while I use my MacBook to take notes, recreate lessons, etc. The problem is that every time I click a new video to watch it, it opens on the MacBook display, which means I have to then drag the video over to the secondary display.

Is there any way to tell Quicktime to open the videos on the secondary display without resetting my monitor options? (I'd like my MacBook display to stay as the primary monitor.) I know I could just take notes on the secondary display, but the MacBook screen is a) connected to my keyboard (not a big fan of my non-MacBook keyboard. I like to call it my Windows gaming keyboard because that's all it's there for) so it's easier to use and b) it just looks better.

Power Mac G5 :: Getting Rid Of Ghost Extended Desktop
I'm using a g5 tower that was previously used by another editor - he had a tv monitor hooked up in addition to a two-monitor extended desktop. I still have the extended desktop, but not the monitor. However, the monitor is still somehow recognized as part of the extended desktop, meaning that occasionally a window will open up there that I can't see, because I don't have a monitor. Here's a screen grab of the arrangement window. That little one is the monitor. [URL]

MacBook Pro :: Extended Battery For Time On A Plane?
Next month I'm going to be spending a lot of time on some airplanes(8+ hours at a stretch, I'll be programming so there is no way the normal battery will last) and I would like to be able to use my MBP while I'm in the air. According to the airline I won't have access to power while I'm on the plane. I would usually just grab an extra battery for this time, but that is not possible with the new MBP. It seems like Hypermac is no longer selling their batteries with a magsafe connector, is there another way to extend the life of the battery?

My apple care ran out over a month ago and they still covered a video card problem in my Mbp. Anyone else get repairs done after coverage expired? I was having an aweful time trying to figure out why I couldn't get a good calibration when running external monitors. The card seemed to be working, but I guess whenbutvwas put under stress it failed. My mbp is at apple getting a new logic board, can't imagine what that costs. Plus my 30" cinema is getting a new hinge that would not tighten properly. Apple care is definitely worth it.

MacBook Pro :: Freezes After Extended Sleep Time?
I've been having my MacBook Pro freeze up on me after sleeping for around 20-30 minutes or longer. I open the lid, and it looks fine, then as soon as I try and do something I get the spinning beach ball of death. Then, I click something else, and it instantly gets the beach ball. Eventually I try the dock, which comes up, but then freezes and hangs as well, partially expanded.

Control+Option+Delete does nothing. Nothing at all. Not a single button does anything, the only thing that is responsive at any level is the mouse (now a beach ball), and it only moves. And that's it.

I have no peripherals hooked up, nor is my Safe Sleep mode activated (mode=0).

MacBook Pro :: Photoshop CS4 Extended OpenGL GPU Acceleration
I am experiencing a particular bug in Photoshop CS4 Extended which is related to the OpenGL GPU acceleration which is very dependent on the video driver. The particular bug I'm seeing is when I free transform a object/layer or perform a transform selection the transformed object/layer/selection is off by a pixel and that pixel is semi-transparent with whatever is being transformed. Can anybody with both a unibody and Photoshop CS4 test this on their system to see if its really an issue with the driver or if it is something with my Photoshop installation?

Here's what I do to test.
1. Create a new doc at any size/ppi.
2. Drag out a selection and fill with a solid color.
3. Free transform object/selection.
4. Zoom in on transformed object and look at the edges to see if there is this feathered/semi-transparent edge.

I haven't tested in bootcamp since I don't have a Win version of CS4.

They all say to keep your laptop plugged into an power supply whenever possible. Only use your battery if you have to, in those times when you are not near a power supply.

Mac Pro :: Apple Care Can't Be Extended?
I just called Apple about an iPod issue. When he told me that my iPod's Apple Care expired, I gave him my Mac Pro SN, and he helped with the iPod issue as a courtesy. So while on the topic, I thought to request an extension of coverage for my Mac Pro system (about $5k worth of hardware).

He told me that Apple Care cannot be extended. "So you just have to buy new stuff, huh?" I asked. He quietly replied, "Yes."

I cannot imagine having to buy $5k plus new hardware just to keep my equipment covered. Wow. Did I misunderstand him? Does anyone need some editing work done.

MacBook Air :: Extended Apple Care Plan?
First I would like to say hello to everyone and soon I will (finally) enter the Mac world. I've been a 50-50 type of guy (Apple/Microsoft) and I had the majority of the multimedia Apple products without actual Macs though. I was tempted to buy a MacBook before but I always wanted something sleek, sexy yet with a good sauce of performance since I am not a heavy usage type of guy and for gaming I will be getting a 360 Slim later on. Finally that day has come and I will be buying the ultimate 11". Question is, is it worth the extended Apple Care plan? I searched for answers on the official Apple site, googled up for a couple of days but I didn't find exactly what I wanted. Does it cover (for example) accidental damage? Or what are the real advantages of having an extended Apple Care plan? Since it will be my first Mac I will want to take extra care with it.
