MacBook Pro :: System Freezing And Flickering Display?

I currently have an issue with my 17" Macbook Pro (Mid 09). The freezing is very tricky to explain but here goes...

One of two things happen:

First I'll be happily working away when suddenly I notice none of my input, be it from a mouse, keyboard, tablet, etc, are recognised. However if I just happen to be playing anything with audio attached to it, such as iTunes, a DVD, website with audio, the audio still plays in the background. My mouse cursor also continues to move. Anything on the screen apart from the mouse cursor freezes.

The second thing that happens is all of the above plus the screen flickers. First the screen corrupts from the bottom and this effect slides up the screen to about a third up, then flashes, then the whole screen flashes (black), and this continues on a cycle until I hard reset the Mac. I've not had this happen on my Windows 7 bootcamp partition!

MacBook Pro :: Freezing With Flickering Screen?
My trusty MacBook Pro (MacBookPro4,1) has suddenly started freezing. It seems do it at random times, when I am not doing anything which should be particularly taxing (eg it often freezes when I am sitting reading a web page, and the computer is basically doing nothing).he symptoms are as follows :The computer is behaving normally, and then at a seemingly random moment, the screen suddenly starts flickering very rapidly. Sometimes it also has areas with patterns of black, grey, or white squares, each square being about 4x4 pixels.

The computer also freezes completely - except that the pointer will still move, which seems a little odd.The computer does not react to anything I do except to move the pointer when I move my finger across the trackpad. The pointer moves much faster than usual.Sometimes, if I wait long enough, the screen will stop flickering, and sometimes the pointer speed will return to normal. But the computer never unfreezes.Looking at the ConsoleIseethatthereisacontinuousstreamoferrormessagesromom.apple.launchd.peruser.501277 - three error messages repeating over and over, the whole time the computer is on.Message 1 : (org.freedesktop.dbus-session413) posix_spawn("/opt/local/bin/dbus-daemon", ...): No such file or directoryMessage 2 : (org.freedesktop.dbus-session413) Exited with exit code: 1Message 3 : (org.freedesktop.dbus-session) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 secondsI have no idea whether these errors are relevant to the freezing/flickering problem, nor whether they were already happening before the problem started to occur three days ago.The following points may also be worth noting:I am running my MBP from a Kensington 12V power supply rather than the Apple 240V brick. But it has been working fine from the Kensington supply for a couple of years now...I upgraded the memory when I first bought the machine. IIRC, it is Crucial RAM.The freeze has always occurred while Firefox has been open. But that is probably because I always have Firefox open...

MacBook Pro :: Display Flickering And Conflicting With Screensaver?
I recently purchased my 17 inch Macbook Pro (1 week ago), and already I have a problem. When my mac is idle and the screensaver comes up, the display flickers, showing the desktop or whatever window I have open at the moment and showing the screensaver. It's as if it's alternating with the screensaver and the background. I took it to the Apple store but they found no evidence that something was wrong since it does not do this always. I'm planning on taking some video footage next time this happens and take this to the mac store to show them.

MacBook Pro :: Display Is Flickering On Special Lightning?
i just bought me the new Mac Book Pro on Tuesday. Ive a Problem with the Display and didt found anything in this Forum.

Now to the Problem:

If the Lightning is set under 10th Lightningoint, the Display flickers iregular. Ive seen that many people have that Problem but no one has any premenition to solve this Problem. Some guys talking that they have to send it to apple to change the whole book about 7 -9 times and the Problem wasnt fiexed...

Is there any chance to get this fixed this Problem by Apple in the next months? Or must i live with this inacceptable failure?

The automatic Lightning control is set off @ my book. The Problem only comes if theres no Powerplug connected.

MacBook Pro :: Getting The Flickering Display - Mid-2012?
There are random black horizontal lines, constantly on the screen. When I leave the setting of 1280x800 (default), the defects disappear, only small distortions, which makes me think that the error can be corrected via software update. As the Lion was on 10.7.3, I upgraded to 10.7.4 to see if improved. But the errors persists. At the end of the video, the lines are most striking, becoming impossible to work.

I'll be sitting doing w/e as usual and all of a sudden the display goes dark, almost black, for a second, then comes back up again. I have yet to find any trend in when this is happening, but it is definitely happening on battery as well as plugged in, but it seems to be getting worse.any one have any idea what this could be, something I can fix on my own, or should I take it in?

MacBook Pro :: Display Flickering With Red / Green Pixels?
Sometimes the LCD display goes into this mode where in some areas you see red and green pixels flashing. I have taken a few pictures, which obviously don't render the flashing effect, but give you an idea of what it looks like:

[URL]

This is a MacBook Pro pre-unibody The graphic card is an ATI Radeon X1600 I ran the TechTool Deluxe tool to test the video RAM (and everything else), but it didn't detect anything wrong I have never seen this when the laptop is connected to an external monitor This doesn't happen that often; say 1 times out of 10, usually after the laptop comes out from sleep. The issue stays for a few minutes and then goes away until next time, so I am unlikely to have the problem when I go to Apple Store for service.

I get a kind of small pixelated deformations of the display, and the sound output locks down looping the last second.

MacBook Pro :: Brand New 17" Display Lines / Flickering / FAIL
I have a new 17" uMBP that I've owned for just a few days. I noticed yesterday that while I watching a video that i had strange green/red lines (horizontal) appear across the screen and flash/flicker. I freaked out and closed the lid, putting the unit into sleep, and opened it again and it all stopped. Today, I was using it again as usual, on firefox/etc. when it started happening again. Horizontal lines across the screen, the entire display flickering and screwing up and finally going black. I don't know what's going on, but I know this definitely isn't supposed to happen. I took a screenshot during the flickering/lines/etc but the screenshot came out perfectly fine unfortunately. I'll try and get it on camera next time.

I have all software updates installed. I tried resetting PRAM. The flickering I'm talking about isn't minor, it's actually absolutely horrendous and the computer is completely unusable when it's going on. It ultimately leads to a black screen. Anyway, this is all on the 9400, and I have no idea what's going on but I definitely know this isn't supposed to happen. UPDATE: I booted into Windows via bootcamp and it STILL happens. I also connected it to an external display(which works perfect), which leads me to believe that it's 100% a hardware issue. I'm taking it back to the apple store, enough said. This is my first Mac and I can say I'm definitely not happy to be having such issues with a $2500 machine.

MacBook Pro :: Flickering Display, Aluminum Clam Shell, Trackpad Not Working?
Our display flickers on one side and has multicolored vertical bars running down the left side at best, or the whole screen greys out over the top of the graphical display, is physically no longer fully attached on that side near the hinge (you can press it down quite a bit after it has been closed), and the aluminum clamshell seems like it's warped.  The bottom access panel has become no longer a smooth fit - it sticks up a few millimeters at the gap instead of being flat. We used to be able to hold the back left side and the screen would work, now we have been sitting it on a wooden structure with a back support and pushing it against that so we can see the screen for the past year or two.  Now the flickering vertical bars are getting worse and the wooden support doesn't always work, and as an added bonus, the trackpad recently stopped working (it no longer 'clicks' and acts like it's constantly pressed down, so we have to use an external mouse with it).  It's pretty frustrating because we've babied this thing (it's never been dropped or abused and has only left the house like twice, and one of those times was to take it in to see about this very problem!) and it seems like it's a manufacturing defect, but of course we never had AppleCare and this powerful expensive beast is now a desktop computer with a super hard to see screen.  I've been told we need to pay $400 to get a whole new clamshell.

MacBook Pro :: MBP 13" Flickering - Start To Display Different Parts Of Window In Other Places

All of a sudden, whether in the current window or the whole screen, it will start to display different parts of the window in other places. It could be the text or pictures from the web site show up all over the screen in multiple places, icons scatter around on the screen, etc.

Not too sure what else to do at this point...nothing has been spilled on it and it hasn't been dropped...it does this while sitting on my desk.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Brightness Flickering / No Pulsing, Dead Pixels, Or Heavy Distortion Of The Display?
I am having an issue with my Macbook Pro. I bought the Mid-2009 model. Up until very recently, the display ran fine. Now, it flickers. This is unlike the other flickering problems I have seen on these boards. There is no pulsing, dead pixels, blacking out, or heavy distortion of the display. The ambient light sensor is also not involved, as I have already tested it.It is more of a brightness flickering. There is sudden changes in the brightness level. However, this problem does not show when on max brightness, and it is much more apparent on the lowest brightness setting.I want to know if there is a fix to this problem or if I have to take it to the Apple Store.(P.S.: One of the solutions I have heard of is to replace the power inverter. I hear that is expensive. I want to know how much it costs to replace this IF it is the definite solution.)

MacBook Aluminum :: Display Flickering (Static Like) At Bottom Of Screen
The display of my new Macbook has been disappointing.

1. The screen constantly flickers towards the bottom of the display. It appears to be like a static-like flickering that just constantly passes through the bottom of the screen making it very difficult to work! I sent Apple a feedback about this and did not hear anything!
2. Brightness adjustments: The brightness adjustments do not seem to do what they are supposed to! It's sometimes too bright mid-way and sometimes not!

Are other people experiencing these issues. Is there a way to get a response from Apple without waiting on the phone for 2 hours? I am having trackpad issues as well, but then again who isn't?

MacBook Pro :: External Display Freezing White Screen
I have a 13 inch MacBook Pro, which I bought in June. Have not had any problems until I hooked it up to 22 inch Samsung EX220X 1080p LCD this week. When in dual screen mode, get a white screen of death after 15-30 mins in one if not both (sometimes black, but still on, on MBP). Seems to be ok when I work with MBP lid closed.I've used both the VGA and DVI adapter, same problem. Actually worse with DVI. I've had two calls with Apple, reset pram, other boot up fixes, checked hardware, checked software, repaired permissions.

Nothing. Seems to be ok with lid closed, although I opened lid earlier to ventilate (MBP display remained off), same problem. Is the only real fix new ram and a logic board? I have the latest software Jocasta, which says it fixes purplish screen, yeah nit the white, grey, green, pink screen I am getting. Any pos computer in the world can work a display. I can get it to work with the lid closed, but is that going to damage with overheating?

MacBook Pro :: Occasional Freezing The System
I've had the new 13" MBP for about a week now. First it was all nice. I mean, the thing really is fast, but after the dreaded EFI update strange things have started to happen. For one I could mention the low result in Xbenc HDD benchmark, but that is not an issue for me. I am, however, extremely annoyed by this strange behaviour: it doesn't matter whether I am using Safari, Adium or watching a movie in QuickTime, the computer stops responding (text input becomes impossible), shows the spinning beach ball But the cursor is still movable. This freeze lasts for approximately 10-15 seconds

MacBook Pro :: System Keeps Freezing On Boot
My early-2010 i7 MBP keeps freezing within minutes of boot. I just tried booting in safe mode, and it just froze for the 6th time in 24hrs (like the 4th in a row). I've never performed a time machine backup with this computer (I got it about a month ago), so a full restore would be an absolute last ditch option. Like I said, this keeps happening within a minute of boot. The screen is on, but everything completely locks up. I am able to get the canvas to successfully play in full screen on the external monitor, but there are scrolling horizontal lines whenever I play any canvas footage. I do not see the scrolling lines when using any other applications, and the video looks fine when I export the canvas and play it full screen on the monitor using Quicktime. This only happens when I play the canvas in full screen in FCP. My only conclusion is that there is something in FCP settings that I have missed that is causing this.

MacBook Air :: Slight Flickering Only On Dark Grey On External Display?
I have a 28" inch display attached to newest version of Air. Works ok except when I have a full screen on plain dark grey background, then I see a waviness or flickering effect. Like the dark grey in Iphoto background. Other than this, the other colors seems ok. Pictures are fine, even when dark. Maybe there's a slight flickering with dark blue. Any explanations for this.
using mini display port to dvi. Tried with a friends dual link display, was a little different, but still unstable looking in dark grey when it fills the screen.

Could it be just what it takes to make this color, or the Hertz, which is 60. Other than this, no problem with the screen.

MacBook Pro :: System (2.26Ghz) Started Freezing Now Not Booting
I've had my Macbook Pro 13" 2.26ghz for several months now and everything was fine till a few weeks ago. First of the system started freezing for a couple of minutes when trying to complete simple tasks in Safari and other browsers. Soon these freezes were lasting up to 30 mins and although I could move the cursor I could not access or click anything. Just got the spinning beachball. After a few days or frustration I erased the hard drive and did a fresh install of Snow Leopard and everything was working fine again till a week ago when it began all over again. After reading about 2010 Macbook Pros having similar problems to what I was experiencing I removed quite a lot of installed apps to see if this would stabilize the system.

Weird thing is that the MBP works fine when booting from an external drive running Snow Leopard (I always have this handy for just such occasions). I then swapped the drive out of my MBP into the drive casing and put the other one into the MBP. Surprise, surprise, the swapped drive in the MBP now exhibits the same issues and the drive from the MBP runs fine in the external drive casing. As of last night no matter which drive is in the MBP all I get is a flashing folder with a question mark when I try to boot it up from the internal drive. I can still get it to boot no problem from the external drive though and both drives are obviously functioning fine when in the external enclosure ruling out a hard drive problem.

MacBook Pro :: System Freezing And Giving Dysfunctional RAM Beeps
Recently my 13" MacBook Pro, w/2.26 processor and 2GB of RAM running 10.6.5, began to freeze intermittently and then at times on reboot it would give me the blank screen with 3 beeps denoting that the RAM was not seated properly or dysfunctional. Everything under the hood is factory other than the Hard Drive, I put a bigger one in. I took off the bottom plate and re-seated the RAM and that seemed to work for about a month, now it has begun doing the same thing. Also it seems to freeze from waking up from sleep, and also from the slightest bump, nudge, or even picking it up off the table. I verified and repaired Disk Permissions today and still have a problem. My best guess is it is not reading the RAM properly.

It was not installed with compatible bootcamp because x64 operating systems are not supported yet. It has been running fine for months though? I also run a small dell 17" TFT off the same graphics card and no problems with that. It defaults to the main desktop on starting up vista, but only in vista. And I get this fast flashing light - about 2 every second or so - regularly. No amber lights and no groups of three.

I can't get any help with the hardware from Apple until late next week because I have to wait for an appointment at an apple store. Coincidentally my macbook battery failed completely on the same day?
