MacBook Pro :: Stuck At Select Destination - Examining Available Disks

My mac has recently killed itself after a kernel panic. When starting the OS, it just gets stuck on the apple logo and a spinning wheel. I have been able to get all my data off from using a live ubutnu cd and syncing it to my external hard drive. Now when I try to re-install OSX I get stuck at the Select a Destination, examining available disks.

The disk utility can find the hard drive but not the partitions(I can't repair/erase/partition from this). It basically can't do anything to the hard drive apart from see it. I can hold down alt and boot into windows and run fine. Please don't tell me you think it might be a faulty HDD, if so I will then be 2/2 for faulty HDDs.

OS X Tiger :: New HD Not Appear In Select Destination For Installation
My friends' macbook hard drive died. I ran DiskWarrior on it, and it couldn't be repaired. She didn't have apple care, so she bought a hard drive online, and I offered to install it (I've done it a couple times before-- with an ibook and imac). More details about the initial problems are here: [URL]. Anyway, she bought a Western Digital 2.5 ATA 160gb hard drive on Newegg and I installed it without problems. But, I run the 10.4 install CDs and when I get to "select a destination" nothing shows up! What should I do? Did I get a dead drive?

OS X Leopard :: Moved Files - How To Select Destination Finder Window
I am new Mac switcher. Finder windows S (source) contains a lot of files which needs sorting, other Finder windows D1, D2, D3 are destionations. Each Finder window previously was tuned to show specific folder. I am starting move (drag and drop) each file in S (source) and want to move file "F1" to D1 window, other file "F2" to D2, etc, etc. Please imagine a lot of destination Finder windows are opened, and these windows overlap each other on the screen.

How to select destination Finder window (D1, D2, D3 ,...) if drag and drop is started? "Command + ~" doesn't work in this case. But it works for other application, for example: I can start drag and drop file, than switch to Mail by command + tab, than select any opened Mail window by "command + ~". Using F10 (like Expose for current application) is uncomfortable, because using touchpad and keyboard Fn+F10 is problematic (switch off "Fn" pressing can't help also). How to switch to another Finder window if drag and drop is started?

Snow Leopard :: Blank Screen - No Visible Disks To Select
I am running 10.5.8 2.53 Intel Core 2 Duo. When I insert the disk to install Snow Leopard and get to the screen where you select a disk I get a blank screen. No disks are shown. MacBook Pro :: My MBP Wont See Or Burn Blank Disks Yet Sees Filled Disks Fine?
When I insert a blank disc into my MBP it seems to just cruise and no untitled disk icon comes up in finder or on my desktop. It does however acknowledge any other disc that has information on it. I've checked system preferences and they aren't set to ignore. I ran verify disk permissions and repair disk permissions and nothing comes up there. I recently re-downloaded the superdrive firmware update and reinstalled it. Ive done a PRAM reset twice and it doesnt change it. I also formatted my hard drive a few days ago and it was working fine, but once I did a system restore via my time capsule this problem has come back again (which leads me to believe that it must be a setting of software problem, that I brought back)

Final Cut Pro :: Media Manager Not Collecting All Files To New Destination?
Specs: 10.5.8 / Final Cut Pro 6.06 / Dual Quad Tower -

So here's the conundrum. We've got a lot of video projects to backup (about 80) and move to another drive.

When we go to media manager and ask it to copy files over to a new destination, it grabs MOST of the files associated with the project. But without fail, it will not grab and copy all of the files that were sent to Soundtrack Pro. Any STAP file on Final Cut Pro's timeline gets left behind.

Why is this?

Here's a screen cap of our settings..

Final Cut Pro :: Destination Tab Missing In Preferences - How To Restore It
Had an earlier question answered and then remembered this part. In order to find my master templates, I have read where I need to go to "Preferences" and find "Destination". Well, there's the rub. I have gone to Preferences, searched everywhere and found nothing marked "Destinations".

I am running an IMAC 8.1 OSX 10.6.4 and the FCP is version 7.0.2. We no longer have the install discs, as I explained in another post were destroyed. Yes, this is a registered version under a Volume License and was not pirated.

This is the first time I have gone seeking the Master Templates, leading me to this search. There is nothing in the Master Templates bin, and I have read where there is a "Destination" connection that will solve it. I am completely baffled at this one.

MacBook Pro :: Just Installed 10.6.3 On It And External Disks Cannot Be Seen By OS?
i installed 10.6.3 on my 17" MacBook Pro (updating from 10.5.8).  All my external disk drives which had all been visible to the system and accessible before the update no longer were visible to the OS. Not in the sidebar and not in the disk utility. After checking all connections etc. many reboots, resetting the pram i still am unable to see or access these disks. From there i updated to 10.6.8 but exactly the same results. i'm not sure where to go from here. i have 4 externals on 2 different  usb routers and 1 external on a firewire router. I'm considering removing the routers and trying each drive separately and directly connected to the laptop.

MacBook Pro :: It Keeps Breaking Hard Disks
MBP Mid 2009

Lion

8GB Ram

1TB HDD

The problem started with my MBP freezing about once per day (sometimes spinning wheel, sometimes complete unresponsiveness). After doing a hard reset, I would usually be given the grey screen with stop sign, and the machine wouldn't boot. Resetting the PRAM would fix this, and it would boot OK. This was going on for a few weeks (I did disk checks which came back fine).

Then a couple of days ago the machine froze (unresponsive), I did a hard reset but just got the chime and grey screen - no Apple logo, no spinning wheel, no stop sign. Nothing. I did PRAM and SMC resets, but still nothing. I tried booting safe, safe verbose, hardware test, single user - nothing would work; just chime and blank grey screen. So I thought my OS installation had died. But when I tried to boot to the Lion DVD, still nothing - grey screen, the DVD would spin up, then spin down to a stop. I thought it might me faulty RAM, but not having any others to try I just swapped the two pieces over. Nothing.

Then I plugged my external 500GB HDD in to the USB (which was the machine's original internal HDD) and suddenly the Lion DVD would boot. So, the internal 1TB was dead. I put the 500GB back inside, booted Lion DVD successfully, formatted the HDD and started the Lion install. This failed with an error message 'the support files can't be copied - restart to try again'. So I restarted and in disk utility it said the HDD S.M.A.R.T was failing and it had a serious fault which could not be fixed and needs to be replaced. The 500GB disk was working fine and had had very little use since being replaced by the 1TB in January this year (the 1TB was brand new in January). So it seems odd that the both decided to fail one day after each other.

MacBook Pro :: SuperDrive Cannot Read Burned Data Disks
I've had my Late 2008 MBP for just about a year now. I have noticed lately my Superdrive seems to have issues reading data disks I have burned. I am not sure if this is due to Snow Leopard because I don't remember this being an issue in the past. The first small issue is if I restart/boot up my laptop with a disk already inside, it does not load when the computer starts up. I always have to eject and reinsert once the computer boots up for it to show on my desktop/finder. The second and more prominent issue is that data disks I burn containing random files and folders take a long time to mount.

I insert a disk I have burned files on and it takes about 30 seconds for it to mount and during that time the super drive makes a lot of funny noises like it is starting and stopping a lot. Once it does mount I periodically have problems with it reading/transferring to the computer. During the transfer the drive makes funny noises once again. I have noticed this issue is most prominent with HP Lightscribe DVD-R disks. Haven't really experimented too much with any other disk type to see if that will make a difference.

MacBook Pro :: Disks Won't Read Or Eject
Whenever I enter a dvd into my MBP it doesn't read it and then I usually try to eject it, but that fails to do so also. Every single time, I have to restart my laptop just to get the disk out. I have tried this with multiple cd's and dvd's. Rarely do cd's work, but every one is still unable to be ejected unless I restart my system. I hate having to constantly do this! it's annoying and tedious work when I try to figure out what is wrong with it. I have never done anything to the drive that would make sense to harm it. I had it once cleaned by a lens cleaner and dust remover to see if it would help, but it didn't.

MacBook Pro :: Optical Drive No Longer Reads Disks?
never really had a terrible problem with this computuer until the last few months with the battery wearing out and having to replace the charging cord twice but now it seems like I have a problem here. Earlier today, less than an hour ago, i burned a CD for my buddy, when i went to burn the second disk, it didnt want to accept it.  Finally, when it did, it wouldnt read I had a disk in it.  When i got home, i tried other cds/dvds and it wouldnt read them either.  It was making a rather bad sound, kind of like an alarm sound.  The CD will not spin and is ejeceted shortly after. I was planning on bootcamping my Macbook Pro later this weekend, but if i can not get this to work, I wont be able to.  I dont think i have Apple Care and the nearest apple store is about a 2 hour drive from my house.

MacBook Pro :: Can See Hard Disks In USB Enclosures / But Not Internal
I have a mid-2010 macbook pro 13". The other day, it crashed on wake-up, and would not boot. I had a OCZ Vertex SSD boot drive, and the OEM hard drive in an optibay enclosure (replaces the optical drive and used only for data). I used this setup for one year with no problems. After much troubleshooting, I found that I could see the SSD drive by booting into a recovery partition that I have on a USB stick, and putting the SSD in a USB enclosure. Then disk utility could see it, but not mount it. The label on the boot partition was "lion", but it changed to "disk1s2". I was able to repair the drive using disk utility, and then boot from it using the USB enclosure.Once booted, I could still see the OEM hard drive with no problems. So I powered down and put the SSD back inside the case and rebooted. It booted in safe mode, but it booted fine. The next time I rebooted, it would not boot. I swapped the OEM drive and the SSD drive, and then the sytem booted with no problems and I was able to use both drives.

One day later, I noticed my OEM drive was no longer mounted in OSX. I took it out, put it in a USB enclosure, and OSX could see it fine. There were no errors on the disk. I put it back in the macbook and reboot but OSX couldn't see it.So, the primary SATA port seems to be working intermittently. Three times now, a drive has stopped working on this port. Each time, I could use the drive in an external enclosure (or using the other SATA port normally used for the optical drive. Does anyone have any ideas? Could it just be the cable?I'm trying to make this computer last at least another month or so because I need to upgrade to a larger model, and am holding out for the 2012 release.
