Applications :: Upgrade To Snow Leopard Or Install Snow Leopard?

Oct 4, 2010

I'm currently using a MBP 13 inch and am running Leopard on it.

I just bought a copy of snow leopard today but i don't know if I should do a direct upgrade from leopard to snow leopard, or wipe my MBP and do a fresh install so i have snow leopard on a clean slate.

Have any of you tried the second option before? Or do any of you have advice on which path I should take?

OS X :: When To Upgrade (Install Snow Leopard)

Sep 17, 2009

I bought a copy of SL a couple of weeks ago to update my early 2008 MBP, 4 GB memory. But after reading lots of complaints I decided to hold off until some bug fixes come out. Well....how long should I wait? How many of you are happy that you upgraded? Leopard works just fine for me, so I don't want to mess that up for no real reason.

OS X :: Clean Install And Snow Leopard Upgrade

Aug 4, 2009

I assume that when I get my mac, a snow leopard drop in disc will be inside.

1. As soon as I finish the setup, and am presented with the desktop, I will immediately put in the snow leopard disc. In this scenario, is it ok to just do a normal upgrade since the system is pretty much untouched?
2. My understanding is that if I do a clean install, I will lose iLife, and will have to reinstall it using the discs that came with my machine, is this correct?
3. I'm confused about archive and install. Will all my applications (iLife, etc) be left alone? Is this sort of like a clean install, except you have a copy of your old system files? Is it ok to delete the old system files afterwards?
4. From the scenario I described in #1 which of the 3 installation methods is the best to do?

OS X :: Snow Leopard Upgrade Effective As Fresh Install?

Jun 18, 2009

I'm planning on buying a Macbook Pro 13" sometime during early August, so my question is that. Is an update of OS X from 10.5 to 10.6 just as effective as a fresh install of 10.6? I have bad memories from upgrading from one version of windows to another, and was simply wondering whether there would be any "excess litter"?

Is it possible for me to do a brand new clean installation just using that Snow Leopard upgrade disk?

Mac Mini :: HDD Upgrade - SATA II - Tiger Up To Snow Leopard Install Solution?

May 14, 2010

I want to upgrade my wife's Mac Mini (2007, 1.66 GHz Core Duo, model T2300) with a new HDD. I've done that a couple years back, but times were less complicated. Here are my questions:

1) I hope a 7200 rpm drive will improve performance, without generating more noise than a 5400 rpm drive. Is that a correct assumption and would you recommend that?

2) Looks like many of the 500 GB 7200 rpm drives are SATA II. Will that be compatible with the plugs in the machine? Will I have to set any kind of jumper pins (I've never done that, though)? 3) My plan is to naturally do a time machine back up of the current drive to use it to build the new one. However, I still need to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The Mac mini came with a Tiger install disc. How do I get to SL with the least trouble? Do I need to start with the original Tiger disc, then use the Leopard disc and finally upgrade with the SL disc or can I use the SL disc right away?

I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.

MacBook Pro :: After Clean Install Snow Leopard, Can't Install Bundled Application (ilife)?

Apr 2, 2012

This is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.

It says that "the installation failed. the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance".

I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:

1)normal install - fail

2)repair permission - fail

3)install in safe mode - fail

4) install using another admin acc - fail

5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail

6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai

7)updated my system and install - fail

8) reinstall the mac - fail

i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?

MacBook :: Re-install Tiger After Leopard Upgrade Failed

Mar 16, 2009

I tried installing Leopard on my iBook G4 and it did not succeed. Now, my computer has a half-installed upgraded OS that doesn't work. I was told at the Apple Store that my computer would run better with Tiger anyway since my processor is not up to snuff to handle Leopard (my iBook is from Jan 2006) and that I should erase the hard disk and re-install Tiger.

So now I'm trying to reinstall Tiger but when I insert the disk, start up the computer holding down the C key, the start stalls at the apple logo gray screen with the little cog spinning around. Nothing happens after that.

OS X :: New Leopard 10.5.6 Install - No Choice For Upgrade Clean Install?

Jan 27, 2009

I purchased the new Mac Box Set with Leopard 10.5.6, iLife '09 and iWork '09.

I was 50/50 on which type of Leopard install I wanted to perform today.

Looks like the disc made the choice for me and performed, what I'm assuming, is the upgrade. All of my files, settings, etc. were intact after the reboot.

MacBook Pro :: New Snow Leopard Install Vs Factory Install

Jul 14, 2010

Did a search through here but couldn't find anything concrete. What are the differences between a fresh Snow Leopard install and a factory Snow Leopard install? I ask because I bought an Intel SSD and don't know if I should bother cloning the hard drive that will come with my new 15" MBP or I should just install a fresh copy from a Snow Leopard install disc. I'm aware macs come with next to no junk pre-installed, but are there some factory settings that are worth preserving if they aren't documented well?

MacBook Pro :: Install Snow Leopard But It Can't Install And Eject

Sep 4, 2014

I tried to install Snow Leopard on my MacBookPro but it cannot install and cannot be ejected. I need to eject.

The reason for this is a long story. My logic board was replaced and my Mac was wiped clean. I am not trying to recover from back up but could not figure out the next step after the recovery finished. So I tried to install OSX from the disk that came with my Mac. Probably not the right corrective action.

I need to remove the Snow Leopard DVD and finish my recovery.

OS X :: Leopard Upgrade To Snow Leopard ... The Same As The Full Version Of Snow Leopard?

Jun 13, 2009

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.

However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.

My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?

Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?

I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

MacBook :: Upgrade To SSD With Snow Leopard?

Jun 12, 2009

I've never updated an OS before, so this probably appears to be very noob-ish. I currently have a refurb 2.4 al macbook. I can't return it, so instead of whining and complaining (past that stage) I'm looking at it as thus: I'm one of very few people to have an aluminum macbook. I want to upgrade to a SSD when Snow Leopard is released in September. How do I make this happen? Is it as simple as swapping the hard drive and then booting from the SL install disks? Almost seems too easy. Also, do you guys think it's a good idea to swap the stock 250GB HDD for an SSD (120GB Vertex) and use the HDD as an external?

MacBook Pro :: Upgrade To Snow Leopard?

May 16, 2012

MacBook Pro
Version 10.5.8
Processor: 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

I'm currently running 10.5.8 and expect delivery of the Snow Leopard disc today. The end result being the upgrade to Lion, but...well, you know. My question is two-fold:

1) Are there any "housekeeping" tasks I should do before proceeding with the initial upgrade to Snow Leopard? I've already run a backup and have important files copied on a flash drive. Is there anything I should clean-up, upgrade, etc first?

2) Has anyone had any problems losing files/music/etc during these upgrades? I've had this MacBook Pro for about four years and haven't had any issues with it. Before that, I always had PCs with all kinds of problems, including losing just about everything during upgrades (which is why I've been hesitant to upgrade up to this point).

MacBook :: Snow Leopard Upgrade (USB Drive)

Sep 12, 2009

Well I just upgraded my computer to snow leopard, and I am very happy. It went very well, and was incredibly easy. I haven't run into one problem as of yet. No compatibly issues, no spotlight problems, nothing. I also heard of people complaining that snow leopard was very slow when they upgraded and didn't do a clean install, well for me, I noticed a speed increase over leopard, and I just simply did an upgrade. I am very pleased with this new OS. I think apple did a very good job refining leopard. I just thought id share this with people, so they don't always have to read the things going wrong with an upgrade over a clean install. Not sure if it matters, but I installed off of a usb drive.

MacBook :: Should I Upgrade To Snow Leopard From Tiger

May 22, 2010

I almost bought the upgrade disc today, however on further thought and reading around here, i've gathered that people seem to have A LOT of problems with macbooks in general. Since i bought my computer used and it doesn't have apple care, i'm thinking the age old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Because i'd hate to upgrade then i start having wireless problems etc.

Is it worth the upgrade? I do a lot of digital audio oriented stuff and i'd really like to upgrade simply because some virtual instruments and plug in's only work with 10.5 or above.
