MacBook Pro :: Screen Goes Black And Then Back Again Randomly

I've had this problem ever since I got the macbook last Christmas. The laptop will "go to sleep" (meaning the screen goes black) and then wake right back up again. I don't lose anything that I've been working on, but it's really annoying. Today it's done it 5+ times in the space of several minutes. Yet, sometimes, I can go a week without it happening.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Goes Black Randomly?
I have a MBP Nov 2009 (10.6.2). Recently, my screen will randomly go black while I'm working on it. I can still see the mouse cursor and hear music or video playing in the background, downloads continue, it all seems to carry on in the background. but the only way to get the screen back is to either close and open the lid (put it to sleep) or hit cmd+esc to go to front row, then exit that.
Its highly irritating. I have done a hardware test using the startup disc which had no faults. It happens so randomly that I cant even trigger it by doing something but sometimes it will happen every 5secs for a few minutes.

MacBook Pro :: Black Screen Randomly Happening?
My Macbook pro running Tiger 10.4.11 is now starting to randomly, what seems like shut the screen down, and just go to a black screen.

I am running my macbook pro, plugged into the AC / Mains, with another monitor connected, when the macbookpro screen goes black the dual monitor stays up and running, I can even do the mirror screen from the actual macbook pro and run it on the dual monitor and its running perfectly (I hope this makes sense!).

Its really odd and only started in the last few days.. it lasts about 30seconds at a time and is starting to worry me!

MacBook Pro :: Screen Turning Off Randomly, Cannot Turn Back On
screen goes black, laptop seems to have not turned off but nothing can turn the screen on.  seems fine after a reboot but problem recurs at some random future inconvenient point in time.  problem is annoyingly inconsistent - it will occur at random (no discoverable software or hardware conjunctions), sometimes around once weekly, sometimes less frequently.  have already had it in a mac repair, said they fixed it, something to do with graphics card firmware.

MacBook :: Why Does Screen Turn Black Randomly
It started almost 3 days ago. My 2008 macbook screen would suddenly turn black. When watching a YouTube video, the sound still plays but the screen is black. I tried adjusting the brightness, didnt work. I tried pressing the power button but nothing changed. Then when i closed my screen and opened it, the display would return with the (turnoff, sleep etc) question meaning my button computed something.

IMac Intel :: New System Crashing / Freezing Randomly With Black Screen
I have a new 27" iMac and it is crashing or freezing about 5 times a day, sometimes presenting me with the black shutter of death coming down the screen. It's a completely random crash/freeze too. I have re-installed the OS but I am back to square one again. I have ordered a 1TB G-Drive and will be using this to back up my stuff using Time Machine, but does anyone have any idea as to why this should be happening? Nothing unusual about the machine other than the 8GB RAM (2x2 GB) that I put in when I bought it.

MacBook Pro :: Late 2008 Goes Black Randomly?
I purchased a macbook pro late 2008 model on December 30, 2008. Since recently, its screen goes black randomly when the built-in 9400m graphics chip is switched on. During the black screen process, the keyboard still keeps shining. I might wake it up by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Eject, but quite often I have to shut it down by holding the power button and restart. I have never encountered the problem when it is working with the 9600M chip, or when it is running window xp.

The screen can go black at any time, when it is booting (the gray screen with the Apple logo), or in the Apple hardware test. I have run Apple Hardware Test for several times, and no errors were found.

Desperately, I brought my laptop to the local apple store, and there I was unable to reproduce the black of death, and I left my computer there for check, after 3 days, they just called me, saying there was nothing wrong with it. But when I take it home, turn it on, only to find that the problem still remains the same.

Could it be the problem with a defected graphic chip? Or is it a problem with the firmware or the OS?

PS I tried to reset the SMC as it is instructed in Apple Support, but I did not see the led blinking at all, so I did not know whether it worked or not.

MacBook Pro :: Brightness Randomly Turns Back On When Turned All The Way Down
This is a strange issue I have had with my Macbook Pro for a while now. Whenever I am in a situation where I am only using my computer for say, listening to music purposes, I like to turn the brightness all the way down. Whenever I turn the brightness all the way down, however, after a few minutes it will go back up 1 pip of brightness on its own. Once I come into contact with the trackpad, however, it goes back down. Then it will go back up 1 pip on it's own again, and go back down when I touch the trackpad. It continues to do this and it's quite annoying.

After almost two years of ownership, my Macbook Pro is acting up. In the middle of using it, the screen image will turn into a negative image of what is on the screen without me doing anything, pushing buttons, etc. I can temporarily fix the problem by tilting the screen back or forth a little bit, and the screen returns to normal. This is now happening several times a day. Any idea what is causing it? A loose cable connection to the monitor? A video card issue?

MacBook Pro :: Screen Randomly Faded To Lines Of Color
Not sure if this has been posted or is a wide known problem, but I spent an hour on google trying to figure this out. Two times in a week now my MacBook screen has randomly faded to lines of color. It happens for a few seconds and then goes away. Not sure what is happening at all here. Not sure if this is related but in case it is. About two months ago I let my MacBook run out of power while I went to the gym. When I came back and plugged it in and turned it on it couldn't remember anything (WEP, the date or time). I know this is related to the PRAM settings but at the time I just restarted once or twice until my MacBook knew what was going on.

When I finally get it to turn off and try to restart it, it lights up but then the CD drive makes a noise like theres a disc in it even though there is not. MacBook Pro :: Screen Randomly Goes Blank But Mouse Pointer Visible
This problem has just occured in my NEW mid-2009 Macbook Pro Unibody 13" (2.26 GHz, 160 GB HDD, 2 GB RAM, nVidia 9600M Graphics). Randomly my screen would go blank, but sometimes the taskbar (or the white thing on the top of the screen {sorry, I am new to macs. I made the switch ;)}), would remain. If I would shut the lid and open it, the mouse pointer would come, and the security thing would come up. If I answer the security thing properly, the screen would just be a black screen with the mouse pointer. If there is any media running in the background, you could hear the media. The only way to get the screen back is to restart the computer. When you press the power button, the thing that asks what you want to do (shut down, restart, cancel) comes up properly. Is this a problem with my graphics card or have I got some kind of new virus or something? And if my graphics card is gone, will I have to pay for it? I am an average kid and I don't exactly have like $800 to spend on a new logic board...

MacBook Pro :: Flickering And Changing Randomly Vertical Line On Screen?
I got my MacBook Pro in August. It is therefore past the 90 day warranty. Just yesterday, while I was working, suddenly a flickering line (it appears about 3 pixels across) appeared about 1/3 of the way from the left of the screen.

The line's pixels reflect those that are supposed to be there, e.g. a solid blue background makes the line flicker blue. In other words, it seems that it is actually black pixels randomly flickering on those lines.

I've heard some things about overheating video cards causing this, but I have still experienced the problem even after letting the Macbook sit powered off overnight. The problem even appears pre-boot, before the Apple logo appears during boot, so it is not software-related (at least not disk-based software.)

The intensity of the flickering seems to change randomly as well. Sometimes the flicker is barely visible, other times the line is almost totally black with only briefly flickering pixels of the right color appearing.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Goes Blank Randomly - A Bunch Of Weird Lines Appear?
In the past month, my Macbook pro, which I have had since May 2009, has started to act very strange.

Sometimes when I watch videos online (collegehumor, youtube, etc.), or am just working on my laptop, the screen stops working. It goes mostly black, and a bunch of weird lines appear on the screen.

The system hasn't crashed or froze, since I can still see my mouse because one little line follows its movement, and the audio still works, and I can still Command + Q and exit out of programs.

I think the problem may have been that I slipped on the stairs one day holding my Macbook Pro and may have damaged the screen somehow, but I just want to know if this has happened to somebody else with their MBP, and what caused it?

MacBook Pro :: Mouse On Randomly Moves From Center Of Screen To Bottom?
So I love my 1 1/2 month old 13inch MBP.

The thing is that recently at random times throughout my day when I'm, using my finger will be on the glass trackpad and i'll be doing something like say surfing the web or using w/e application...Well, randomly the mouse on the screen will disappear from its current location, say for example on Firefox's toolbar, immediately to the bottom of the screen. It's never the top of the screen, or the sides since it normally just causes the dock to rise up...

I'm really concerned to see what's going on here. I rarely had this problem with my old Whitebook, though admittedely did happen a few times.

Perhaps a water spill/damage? Though consider to have been very careful with my new Mac. I'm sure the glass trackpad on these new Macbook Pro's has water damage sensors right? Anyway I can see it/observe it myself.

I used to love taking apart my old whitebook but these new MBP's seem impossible; that or i'm just too scared since I do love how the machine was built.
