quicktime randomly freezes when watching full length movies 1+ hours, it happens randomly and i am unsure what causes it.
Latest quicktime + perian.
Tried reinstallling quicktime and no change.

Upon the start of Safari, it resumes the last session and immediately freezes, showing the spinning rainbow and failing to load pages. None of the toolbar options can be accessed. I can only force quit. Restarting the computed accomplishes nothing. Â
I am running Mac OS 10.7.4 with Safari 5.1.7Â

I'm trying to play movies that I've downloaded from Frostwire and every time they open up in Quick Time it says is update is needed and a blank safari page opens. Probably should mention this is my first Mac and I've had it for a total of 6 hours.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure this out and I've gone through 'Energy Saver' settings and turned off 'Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible' but sometimes - not reliably, playback of a video file just pauses and then resumes as normal after about 10 seconds. It happened just the same with QT and Perian under Leopard and now happens in Snow Leopard too. Similarly, this sort of oddness happens with playback on VLC too.

So my Macbook pro started to stall for 10 seconds or so every few minutes beginning yesterday. Like I am just surfing the net, and it freezes completely for 10 seconds, than everything is back to normal. I don't know what to do to remedy the problem. I have Applecare so I could send it in, but wondering first if anyone has had this problem and knows a quick fix before I send it in.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro with a 2.53 GHz Core i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM, running OS X 10.10.1. For the last few weeks, at apparently-random intervals, the machine has been rebooting while I've been using it. I can't tie this to anything in particular that I'm doing. It may go a couple of days before a restart, or it could be like today, where it's happened five times in the last four hours. I've tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC without apparent effect.Â
When the reboot happens, the system first freezes for roughly 30 seconds--the mouse pointer won't move, it's unresponsive to keyboard input, etc. The system then appears to power down--the screen and external monitor go dark, fans stop, keyboard backlight goes out. A few seconds later, it powers up, gives the boot chime, and goes through the normal boot sequence. At no point does it give the "your computer was restarted because of a problem" message, and I don't see anything in the Console app that looks like a kernel panic.Â
About two years ago, the logic board was replaced to address a somewhat-similar issue--the system had been freezing and could only be recovered by a hard power off (holding down the power button for several seconds). Â
I'm not sure where to start looking for the cause of this problem, since I can't figure out anything in common with the circumstances surrounding the reboots.

When I am using Google image search in Safari, my MacBook freezes for about 20-30 seconds before it shows the results. It just shows me grey boxes in the beginning and loads for a long time. I had the same issue with my old MBPro, but also with my beand-new one.

I got a new Macbook Pro Retina (mid-2014) a few weeks ago and the trackpad and screen randomly freeze even when the only thing I have open is Safari. In other words, it doesn't feel like my computer has a 2.6 GHz Processor and 8 GB 1600 Mhz Memory. My downloads folder also constantly has the loading bar under it; it goes away when I remove it from the dock and replace it, but appears again after downloading one thing.
This is really frustrating when I got a new Macbook so that I wouldn't have to deal with these types of problems. They're all issues that I never encountered with my Macbook Air (mid-2011).

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with two displays and an NVIDIA 8800 card. I was booted into Windows 7 using bootcamp, the machine froze during video playback, hard rebooted. Blue Screened in Windows, went to restart into OS 10.5.7 and I get the Apple logo and spinning gear, it then flashes briefly and goes to a grey screen. The second monitor never engages. The machine is fully booted as I can connect to it with my laptop through filesharing. I've tried PRAM/SMC reset, removing all the RAM/all external devices, pretty much everything. I've even tried replacing the video card and switching PCI slots, with the same issue still occurring.

So, I have a late 2011 MBP 2GH i7, OSX 10.9.3. 500GB HD 16 BG 1600 Mhz DDR3. Â
The problems started a while ago when the computer started freezing at random times. The mouse would move and there was no "pinwheel" but the computer was unresponsive. When I closed the screen the power was still on and the screen did not shut off. The only way to reset the computer was to hold the power button and do a hard reset. I don't remember if I replaced the RAM from 4BG to 8GB Crucial Memory before or after the computer started freezing, either way, shortly after or around the time when I replaced the ram the hard drive also failed.
I replaced the HD with I believe a Seagate hybrid drive with a small solid state segment. This whole time the computer is still freezing and now since I have a hybrid drive the Apple store can't support because it's not factory specs and MacMall here in Santa Monica can't find anything wrong with the hardware or software after running all of their tests.Â
At this time I have a feeling it is the ram so I purchase a new 16GB Crucial RAM. Everything is great till it yet once again freezes in the same way as before BUT!! Now if the computer sleeps because the battery run's low, when I plug it in and the computer reboots (grey opaque screen with the vertical lines as the bottom) it starts beeping 3 times. I hard reset via the power button and the computer boots up as normal (although a little slower). Â
I upgraded to SL this morning, and need to speed up videos playing in Quicktime like you could do with the A/V controls (cmd + k) in Quicktime 7.
I know that Quicktime 7 is still in /Utilities, but Quicktime X looks so beautiful, I don't want to use it
i have been making backup QT movies of a whole bunch of Beta SP tapes using an AJA Ki Pro to record ProRes 422 files. I have used QT7pro to trim these movies and add metadata. Played back on QT7 (7.6.6) they sound find but playing the same movie on QT player 10.1 there is an echo on the audio as if one track has been knocked back about 6 or 7 frames. Using QT7 to set Ch1 and 2 to mono or stereo makes no difference, just spaces the echo out.Â

This is question is being posted in the Mac OS & System Software because I couldn't find Quicktime under Windows software. Quicktime Player works fine under XP Pro on one PC and my other XP Pro computer has Quicktime Pro. MOV video is washed out running with Quicktime Pro but also Realplayer's playback is washed out. All other image files display fine.

I gave it a day, and managed to complete some software updates the next time I logged in, after which it started working fine again. Now, however, it KEEPS freezing every ten seconds no matter what I'm doing. When the video is played in Quicktime (or Pro Presenter 4), portions of the video turn into distorted white blocks that move with the video. It doesn't continue throughout the whole video, but I can't discern when or why it only affects certain portions. It does it every time at those places in the video. I downloaded VLC, and the same exact file plays perfectly fine in VLC and on other computers through various programs. I have only seen this problem on this computer.Â
Is this a codec issue? How do I fix it? The files in question are mp4 files using h.264 video and AAC audio at 1920x1080 resolution. I can play other mp4s using h.264 and AAC without any problems.Â
I have only had this problem with one of the companies that we periodically hire to produce videos for us. I'm guessing that it has something to do with the way he encoded the video, but I have no idea what the problem is. It's probably not his fault if it only distorts on this one computer.Â

I added some 512 MB DDR2-FB DIMM 667 MHz to my Intel Mac Pro Dual Core - OS 10.4.11. Since the memory upgrade, videos will not stream properly in my web browser. The video begins playing; then freezes; audio continues for a few moments; then audio freezes; then beachball for a few moments; then video plays again; then the same cycle of video interruption begins all over again. It is consistent with YouTube, Vimeo, and basically any video format accessed through my browser.

I noticed that after upgrading to Lion quicktime player won't play movies full screen on my second display. Under Snow Leopard if the quicktime window was on the second display and you hit full screen it would fill the display is was on. Now the video slides to the main display and then goes full screen. There doesn't seem to be any way to change that behavior. There are no preferences. Â
The only work around is to move the menu bar in the display preferences to the second menu, so that the second monitor becomes the main one.Â

I have a bunch of movie trailers in a stack on my dock. Every so often when I click on a movie trailer, the video won't appear on the screen for about 10 seconds or longer. It's as if I hadn't click on the trailer to play. Once the video appears I can play it without a problem. Then every trailer that I play after that, opens immediately. Is this normal? Anyone else have this happen to them? I have repaired permissions several times.
View 1 Replies View Relatedits a PC and i know this is a mac only forum but i dont have the time to sign up for another forum. anyways, i boot the pc, it brings me to a menu where it has the options to boot in safe mode, boot normally, etc. i choose boot windows normally and it starts to load windows, however, it freezes about 5-10 seconds into the loading screen and it brings me back to the same boot menu. idk what to do!
