MacBook Pro :: Keyboard Settings - Shift Plus Key Not Working

My Mac works very well but I got a problem, if I want to put any sign such as the interrogation mark or any other that goes with Shift plus number it doesn't work, a random sign comes up, same happens when I try to put accents. I think it might have to do with something related to the keyboard setting but how to fix it.

I bought this machine about November 2008 with only the basic warranty.

I have a white keyboard that came with my iMac G5. Recently the left "Shift" key quit working. Nothing in particular...no water, coffee, food etc., dropped on/in the keyboard. I removed the key and cleaned around it to no avail. Applecare is long since gone, any hope or is it toast?

OS X Tiger :: Wireless Keyboard Shift Key Wrong Entries
I have an Apple wireless keyboard which was working fine for the past 10 months, until this morning. Now, when I press the shift key, it types an "I" and whatever other key I hit. Also, there are occasional random capital letters when I type without pressing the shift key. I've tried things like resetting the PRAM, going into keyboard preferences and resetting to the defaults, and unpairing/repairing the keyboard to my iMac. It is definitely the keyboard, as I plugged in the USB keyboard from my daughter's iMac, and that works fine. Also, I've tried to get support, but can't get past Apple telling me my serial number is invalid.

Mac Pro :: Keyboard Key (specific Key) Not Working?
i've been having a problem since 2 days ago. i've got a japanese keyboard connected to a mac pro (leopard) and ever since 2 days ago, the "kana" button that toggles between english and japanese has been defective. the other button which toggles from japanese to english works. it's very strange! i've tried resetting PRAM and repairing permissions, to no avail. i must also mention that prior to this happening, i've had instances where i wouldn't touch the keyboard and the "J" would be mysteriously pressed...

i've moved to toronto and i'm wondering it might not be possible for the applestore to give me another keyboard in japanese. they may give me another one in english but i prefer the japanese for convenience.

MacBook Pro :: Keyboard Modifier Key Remap Suddenly Not Working?
I am using a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). I use a third-party USB keyboard that is laid out (naturally) Windows-style, with the Alt keys inside (closer to the space bar than) the “Windows logo” keys. I use the Modifier Keys button in the Keyboard preference panel to remap these to the standard Mac configuration, with the Command keys on the inside and the Option keys on the outside.

Today those modifier keys are suddenly reversed back to the default Windows layout. The Keyboard panel still shows my preferred (remapped) configuration, but it is not being honored. I have tried reverting to the default layout and then back again, I have rebooted the system, nothing works—the modifier keys are still stuck in the Windows configuration. I rely heavily on keyboard macros in my work, most of which use the modifier keys, and those keystrokes are built into my fingers as second nature. The reversed modifier keys are driving me crazy. Please help: what can I do to make the keyboard honor my settings in the Keyboard preference panel?

MacBook Pro :: Shift Key Somehow Stuck?

I turned on my 2-week old uMBP 13" and it wouldn't accept my password! After minutes of frustration, I booted into Single user mode and that was when I realized the Shift key is somehow stuck! Typing will show everything in capital letters, typing "1" will show "!", etc.

No physical damage has been done to this computer, I have not spilled any liquids on it and the keys are definitely not physically stuck (I did pry them off and check to see if there was anything under there).

MacBook Pro :: Buttons Getting Locked When Shift Key Pressed
Since I bought my computer in December 2009, I haven't been able to solve this problem where my fn, control, option, command and shift keys 'lock' when I press them. So for example if I press the shift key once I get a click noise and a faint upward pointing shift arrow comes up on the top right corner of my screen and will be locked on for the next press of any key. If it is pressed twice it locks on permanently and the arrow is there again but solid this time. I have to press shift again to get it off the permanent lock. Its the same story for all the other buttons listed. I've looked through the keyboard preferences and can't fix it.

OS X Leopard :: 'Shift Key' To Prevent Start-up Items From Working

Do this except Eye-One match, a program that i use to calibrate my monitor comes up with a reminder on start up - it turns out that this is not technically a start up item (I manually set when I want to set the next reminder for when I finish a calibration). I'm interested in what holding down shift actually disables (this is not safe mode by the way, which involves the shift key at startup rather than login) Can anyone point me in the direction of some reading/ explain please ??

MacBook Shift Key Stuck?
for Christmas I got my moms old macbook. It was some things that were wrong with it but she took it to get fixed at apple for like 500$ so Im sure she doesn't have warranty. The other day I was typing a report and it kept typing in capitals when I didn't have the caps lock on...I figured out that it was something with the shift key. I took it off, and that still didnt work. I haven't spilled anything on it at all. I take very good care of it also. Now I can't en log in because my password has numbers which only turn into symbols.

MacBook :: Right Shift Key Does Not Work
I purchased a late 2009 13" Macbook with 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB ram as a present for my son in college.  He had problems last year and the top case and motherboard were replaced in early 2011; Recently his battery would not hold a charge and his hard drive failed.  I replaced both and added more ram to speed it up -  now at 8 GB)The right shift key does not work.  I have checked universal access; speech-to-text features are off; checked keyboard - English is chosen; checked keyboard, shift key is not assigned to any function;Left shift key does work.  Right shift key does work on an attached Logitech wireless keyboard.  The key seems to press down okay, just will not capitalize any letters.

Intel Mac :: Volume Keys Not Working On Apple 10-key Keyboard?
After the cat spilled a glass of water on my wireless keyboard I had to get a new one. I asked the folks at my local Apple store both over the phone and in person if the 10-key keyboard (non-wireless) they were going to sell me was compatible with Mac OS X version 10.5.8 (I think I'm Leopard) and they assured me it was. When I hit the volume keys, it initially used the assigned function of the F10, F11, and F12 keys (manipulated the windows and dashboard). I removed those key assignments through system preferences but now the volume keys do absolutely nothing. I tried looking for volume controls through the assignments but couldn't even find them to assign the F10, F11 and F12 keys to them.

IMac Intel :: Aluminum Keyboard Wired - Spacebar Key Stopped Working?
I own 2 of these keyboards, one for work, one for home. The other day the spacebar on my work keyboard slowly ground to a halt... first it stopped working intermittently, and then it got worse and worse until now, I can't use it all. I brought it home and tested it using apple's KB articles, disabling Universal Access options, and testing it with the Keyboard Viewer, as directed. On my home setup, with both identical keyboards connected, the work keyboard continues to not work, while the home keyboard (same exact model) works fine. Same thing if I connect just one or the other-- the work keyboard spacebar key just doesn't work.

MacBook Air :: Uppercase R - Right Shift - Capitalisation KeyboaRd ErRoR
I just got a new macbook aiR, as you can see the R key is always uppercase. very funny Apple, now how do I fix it.

I tried Replacing the keyboaRd mapping file with one I made in Ukelele (gReat tool) but while this fixed the @, ", |, (etc.) making them more like the keyboaRds us BRits aRe used to, it did not fix the issue.

The sound of the Right shift modifier can be heaRd each time I depRess the R key.

The issue is tempeRamental, 13 times of out 17, the R key will be uppercase, but if I delete a lowercase R and Replace it, it might come out as lowercase.

If I type quickly, the sound of the shift modifier is heaRd but the R key Remains lowercase.

I can get a lowercase R by typing a letter immediately befoRe the R oR immediately afterwaRds, though this doesnt always work.

If I type R once per second into an editoR such as textmate, I will get this:

RrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

after a while it will be permanently on R, however if I pRess RetuRn and then move the tracker and click on a menu, and then try again I will get this

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRrRrRRR

It always staRts with a lowercase R, and only after a while does it RetuRn,

No applications woRk 100%, and everything I have said is Repeatable!

If I use a wiReless mac kayboaRd, everything behaves perfectly.

Can someone thRow some light on this, I'm happy to try steps, before I contact Apple by phone, as I can see hours of frustration might be had theRe!

Should I just RetuRn it? I have spent a few hourS setting this one up, but heck.

Not impRessed to be honest. How haRd can it be to ensuRe standaRd softwaRe actually woRks - it was affected Right from opening the case. Even my mac passwoRd has an uppercase R in it Right from the setup scReen.

APPLE 4/10 - COULD DO BETTER (NICE MACHINE THOUGH)
