MacBook Pro :: Installing Downloaded Fonts - Files Zipped?

I just got my Mac Book Pro a couple weeks ago. I don't know how to unzip a file...Specifically, I'm trying to install some fonts I downloaded, but the files are zipped. From what I read, I need to unzip them and then just drag them to the "Fonts" folder.

OS X :: Font Options In Safari After Installing Some Downloaded Fonts?
The other night I pulled some fonts that I downloaded a few years ago off of my external hard drive and installed them one by one into Font Book to the User profile. Right after I finished this, I noticed that now about 80% of the text on pages in Safari now appeared as the Yahoo font, instead of what they used to be (I visit about 10 different sites on a regular basis, so there's probably a variety of fonts that normally appear, but now most things appear as the Yahoo font). I don't have any style sheet selected in the Safari preferences, and the font preferences are untouched from what they are when Safari is installed. Not only are a lot of sites now hard to read because of the mess that the Yahoo font around size 10 is, but its just flat out annoying to read that crazy font.

OS X Leopard :: Zip / Compress - Delete 2 Resulting Versions (Zipped And Un-Zipped)?
just installed Leopard, welcome the Zip function but not quite confident to use it. If I compress, for example, an application like i Web and store the Zipped version on external hard drive, can I just delete the 2 resulting versions (Zipped and un-Zipped) on the Mac? My purpose after all is to save disk space on the Mac. Will I be able to reinstall it later if I change my mind?

OS X Tiger :: Can't Open Zipped Files
I can't open zipped files that have been sent to me. I have found the files I saved in Archive Utility and when I originally tried to open them a dialogue box says the default app is BOMArchive Helper. If I click that something I can't read flashes on the screen but nothing opens. If I try to open with Word a dialogue asks what I want to open with giving options such as MS-DOS Text, RTF,HTML document etc. If I click on these a word document opens full of gobbledegook. I have now downloaded StuffIt and when I try and ope the zipped file again something flashes on the screen but too quick for me to see what it says and I still cant open the file

IMac Intel :: How To Compress Zipped Files
I've scoured the internet and am still a bit confused. I have the new iMac running Snow Leopard. I scanned in a couple of files and can create single huge "zip" files. I need to create one zip file with multiple pdfs in it, though, and they need to be compressed - that's the purpose of a .zip file. "Compress" doesn't make it small enough and I can't attach a thing to my email because they're huge.

OS X Leopard :: Mail Sending Zipped Files To Windows?
I'm trying to send a folder and a file (two separate things) to a Windows computer. The folder and file are NOT zipped, but when my boss receives them on his end the folder is zipped, however the file is untouched. Is there some sort of preference in Mail that says something like "Send PC Friendly Attachments"? I seem to remember some setting like that. Or is it possible that his client - I believe Outlook - is zipping the file.

If it makes any difference the file is an html file and the folder is the accompanying folder to that page in the website. They are from iWeb when I used the feature "Export to Folder".

It happens in google and some webpages, but it's really annoying. Final Cut Pro :: Installing Fonts But Versions Not Available
I have a problem with a special font. I want to work with "Helvetica bold condensed" and "Helvetica condensed". But instead some other versions of Helvetica, like "Helvetica Ultra Light". But this Ultra Light isn't in my font folder. Does anyone knows from which folder especially Boris title 3D is receiving the fonts?

Software :: Downloaded File Disappears / Unable To Find Downloaded Files
About a month ago, a friend who had just purchased his first Mac emailed me and asked why his Dock DownLoad file disappeared. I had no idea why. He still hasn't been able to reestablish it.

Yesterday, I downloaded something and my Dock DownLoad file vanished. I have tried rebooting, using (useless) Help, Spotlight, Search, and several other things. NO JOY. NO DownLoad file.

1. Does anyone know where to find DownLoad or how to bring it back?

I have experienced several idiosyncrasies with Snow Leopard, but when I call Apple support, they are very nice, but haven't a clue as to why it's happening.

2. Another problem is that the Highlight gets anchored on something in Mail, Word, and some other Apps. When I click somewhere else, the whole area between the "anchor" and what I click on is lit up. Apple doesn't know what causes it. I have to go through multiple machinations to shake it loose. I don't know what it is that causes it or specifically how to "shake it loose". Neither does Apple.

3. When typing in Word or an editor, there are times when the type changes to UpperCase and won;t let go.

Another problem is that, at times, when I click on a file, it fills the screen. Apple is aware of this problem and is trying to find an answer. Nothing, to date.

Apple support can't tell me why the MacMail Inbox spinner disappeared or how to get it back.

There are times when I can't access the hidden Dock. After rebooting and trying other things, the Dock finally shows up but any additions that I have put on the Dock are no longer there.

When I put a DVD in the slot, for the first few seconds, it grinds but does smooth out.

I thought that SL was supposed to get rid of the "foibles". "What happened on the way to the Forum"?

Is anyone finding other SL idiosyncrasies? What are they?

If anyone can help with items 1., 2, and/or 3. I'd be grateful.

BTW, Apple says that items 2 and 3 MAY be caused by the wireless Magic Mouse and/or the wireless keyboard; however, when I use alternates, it still happens.

MacBook Pro :: Downloaded DMG Files Don't Open
I have had some trouble lately when downloading DMG files with Safari. In the URL bar I could see it was downloading and then downloaded however nothing happend. Changed to open with DiskUtility didn't do anything. Firewall had no influence. When downloaded with Firefox there was NO problem and everything went fine like it use to do with Safari. So I suspect it is a bug in Safari since this happens with all DMG files of late.

Software :: Apple Applications Freeze After Installing Fonts?
I am running 10.3.9 on a PowerBook G4. I installed a bunch of fonts (through Font Book) about 2 years ago, and since that time some of my apple apps freeze from time to time. Namely, Calculator, Text Edit and Safari. I also noticed that in this state, the AutoUpdates don't download. I found a solution of overwriting the required system fonts (especially Keyboard and LastResort), then rebooting. Normally, this sets it right.

However, now my Installer is freezing (trying to install a new Adobe product), as well as Disk Utility. (This means I can't fix those permissions or do First aid, since the Disk Utility freezes). I have not tried reinstalling OS X yet. Might this be related to "Helvetica Neue"?

MacBook :: How To Remove Partially Downloaded Files In 10.6
I could not find any recent helpful answers via Google, but eventually discovered, by trial and error, that you need to delete the failed downloads in three places namely:  /Library/Updates (this is probably unnecessary)

and the *two* files here:- /private/var/folders/<complicated long path>/<name> where <name> ends in .pkg and also in .pkg.resumeData (i.e. the "same name" twice)

I found out where these were being saved by (*immediately* after the update-failure), typing find /private/var/folders -newerct "1 minute ago" -name "*.resumeData" and sure enough, these corresponded to the failed downloads. I removed them with sudo rm /private/var/folders/<complicated long path discovered via find/<name>.pgk sudo rm /private/var/folders/<complicated long path discovered via find/<name>.pgk.resumeData

and then the software update started working again instead of always aborting with e.g. "iTunes: partially downloaded" etc. The reason for the original failure is my poor internet service that constantly breaks halfway through any long-ish downloads.

An example of the actual filepath on my 10.6.8 Mac OSX is:

/private/var/folders/02/027LjtRMGXSZNggzpqLQg++++TI/-Caches-/com.apple.SoftwareU pdate/swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/<same amount again in length>

in other words, really long winded and very difficult to find (I have been trying to do this all day and could not find anything via the www) - I hope it helps you!

Suddenly when I download files they say they're going to the Download folder but when I open the folder to retrieve (or clean out) old files, there's nothing visible. What am I doing wrong? Where are the files? I do NOT have a Download folder in my deck. (Never have.)

How do I fix this? (I need to download files from work and many of them don't allow me to "Save" as.

OS X Leopard :: Installing Downloaded Software - Internet Connection Via Usb Dongle In Poor Signal Area
I'm having a bit of an epic trying to install downloaded software updates. My internet connection is via a USB dongle in a very poor signal area. I downloaded the updates for OS X 10.5.4 and it took me about 36 hours for the download alone. When I tried to install them I got a 'Software Update' box with a bar that was supposedly to fill in with blue shading. Only a tiny bit of the bar filled in and it remained like that for 8 hours the first time I tried and 12 hours the second time. On both occasions text above the bar said 'Installing 3 (or whatever) items' and text below the bar said 'Configuring Installation'. Nothing else happened, for hours. Eventually I simply switched off. I assume I have the software updates on my mac but just can't install them. How can I install them? And if I can't install them are they available to buy on disc? Or should I sell up and move to the city to live in broadband heaven? As you can see, it is all a bit time consuming and I'm not that literate in this sort of thing.
