View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter installing new hard drive and transferring time machine data, my MacBook Pro is Refusing to recognise my password even after I have reset it using the startup disk. I enter user password on my admin user account and it goes blue briefly as if beginning load but the. Returns back to selecting user and entering password. It really strange as it does not say password incorrect its almost like it trying to load but can't.
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday when I turned on my iMac, it went to the login screen and then something odd happened. I saw a second account on the login list that i never made. It is called "Other: and has an icon with lines and spheres (like a networking icon). Also when I click on it, it asks for a name and password.I logged into account and went straight to System Preferences ->Accounts and there is no "Other" in the list of accounts there on the left.just my account. Is this a virus or have I been hacked? Or is this is bug?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just migrated my old MacBook running Snow Leopard to my new MacBook running Lion. After successfully migrating, I am presented with a login for "Guest" only. That is the only account available to me for some reason. When I try to enter every password I can think of, I am given the password hint "guest". Entering that does not work. I've tried the usual Apple public passwords too. What is going on here? What happened to my migrated user account? I went through the entire setup configuration of Lion and even entered and submitted my personal data to Apple for registration. I just say, not impressed with Lion so far ...

My Macbook has been running pretty slowly recently but only at log in. Its been taking ages to load my name at the top of if you try anything before is loaded my user profile I guess it just crashed. Also every now and again the wallpaper doesnt load up. Anyway to fix this is booted into safe-mode, verified the disk and repaired the permission. My work insists I use McAfee enterprise edition for Mac if connecting their servers so I am also protected from viruses and mal-ware. Its just got worse. And stranger still Safari still loads but thats all. Any other program will bounce a few times and then do nothing. Even mail, pages, dreamweaver, terminal, settings - everything. Safari is the only working program I have found that actually still loads. The internet connection works find and everything else. McAfee is sitting in my status bar so I am guessing that has also loaded properly.

Just wondering if it's possible to get rid of a user on the login screen? I have a 'remote' account for other people to access my dropbox, but I never use it to login. Can I remove this user?

View 20 Replies View RelatedI am relatively new to MAC OS X (Snow Leopard) and Unix. I need to run my remote control software upon system start-up before user login. I know how to set a program to run AFTER a user logs in but this doesn't do me any good. For example: Right now I am using LogMeIn Remote Control Software. When I boot OS X the LogMeIn software is already running in the background at the user login screen before any user has even logged in.
I want to stop using LogMeIn and switch to TeamViewer but the TeamViewer software only runs after I have logged in. I need it to run at the user login screen before I have actually logged in so that when I reboot my computer or switch back and forth from Windows XP I can login remotely, just like with LogMeIn. With LogMeIn after a re-boot I the user login & password screen is sitting there waiting for me (or any user) to login. Is what I want to do even possible?
I manage about 10 mac's here at work and would like to set up a user account for students. I am hoping that it is possible to setup a user account in such a way that any changes made whilst the student is logged in will be erased and refreshed for the next student.
I know that I can do this with the guest account but I've discovered that this is not suitable for what I need due to me not being able to create login items (specifically network volumes).
I've not done any scripting or anything like that but I was thinking of copying a script that would take a backup of the user's home directory upon login, then upon logout, the current home directory would be deleted and replaced with the backup that was taken earlier.
However, I'm guessing this will turn to poop if the student simply pulls the plug so I guess everything would have to be done upon login..
When logging in with my password there is some user created text above the dialogue box. I created this text in Tiger but can't remember where or how. It was deep in the root, and I know Leopard is somewhat different than Tiger when it comes to these functions.
View 2 Replies View RelatedTechnically this isn't my problem but my cousin's problem. He has a Macbook Pro and recently had to reinstall Mac OS X, from what I understand he used time machine to restore his files, settings, account, etc. And apparently now on login his password to his account is not accepted. He stated that he did not change the password from what it was before the reinstall of his OS.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn sunday my dad and I bought the brand new 24" iMac, it is a great machine. However today when I went to login, all of the user accounts had disappeared and was replaced with "other...". When you click on it, it will ask you to type in your username and password but no matter what you type it will never let me on. I heard you can do this using terminal a while back, by hiding user accounts. However nobody here has done this, and as everybody else's account does not work it, so it raises some suspicions. My mom immediately thought we had been hacked, which I refuse to believe but it still is possible. We were using the beta of Safari and my sister had been using google images to find wallpapers. I downloaded Quicksilver, Adium, and Amua. That is it. We booted into single user mode and all accounts are there.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have 3 daughters sharing an eMac running 10.5.8 and one of my daughters accounts no longer is viewable from the login page that has my admin login and other daughters logins.
Under the finder>Macintosh HD>Users I see her folder.
Under Apple>Sys Prefs>Accounts I do NOT see her as an account.
If I try and create the account using the same name it tells me that a folder in the users folder has the same name and would I like to use that folder as the home folder for that account. I have chosen OK but the account is still not visable under SysPrefs or the login page.
I am sure there is a simple box to check some where but can't find it, does someone have a cure?

Ok so today my 27" iMac (10.6.2) was acting kind of weird. In safari and chrome webpages would spontaniously crash for no reason (on my macbook, the same webpages were fine). So, to try and fix this issue, I decided to restart my imac. After all the applications quit, I was left with a blank screen with my wallpaper. It stayed like this for several minutes, so I decided to just hold the power button to force the imac to turn off. When I turned it back on, my user name was not displayed in the login window. All there was for accounts was "other" and a network symbol. When I click other and entered my user name and password, it did not work. I am sure I was using the correct password and username. I also tried: username: root, but that also did not work. So i rebooted again and the same "other" still was there without my real account. So i booted into my Mac OS X install dvd and I repaired the disk and all the permissions (there were a lot of things to repair). I thought that this would solve the problem, but it did not.

Logging in as an Admin user or a new user account is fine, and I still get the Kernel Panic if I boot up in to Safe Mode. It's obviously a problem with the user account and looking at the dump log it seems to be caused trying to mount something, but I can't for the life of me track it down.

Recently I restarted my Mac and when it came to the password prompt, my password did not work. I tried it several times, and it even gave me the password hint. I clicked "back", and the only user option is "Other". What should I do to restore my profile and login?
