Apr 26, 2010Does anyone know the screen model/manufacturer of the new mbp 15,4 inch glossy 1440 screen?The thing is that I recieved my new mbp with the high-res antiglare, and it was just awful, now I'm thinking about getting the glossy standard model, and I'd like to research the screen before I get it.
The reason why I choosed to retun my high res antiglare is that it had a red tone, the vertical viewing angle is WAY WORSE than my 2008 mbp antiglare, the screen was not centered (flush left with a 3mm black line to the right), and the resolution (1680) is simply too high for general use (but perfect for photography, graphic design etc).I normally love anti-glare screens but this one is simply not good enough, even though it's a "high-res" one.Please share your experience with the new 1440 standard-res glossy!
Would also appriciate if someone knew where to get the "old" core2duo with antiglare 1440 option, preferably on sale, since that's still a considerable machine for me!
BTW, if anyone's interested, the screen of the antiglare high-res I received was a samsung (didn't write down the model number before I shipped it back)

Mar 15, 2008I'm about to order a Mac Pro, and have recently heard that it's important to use RAM from the same manufacturer (per riser) In Mac Pros. In other words, if the Mac comes with Crucial RAM, it's advisable to add only Crucial RAM within the same riser.

Jan 17, 2010I'm not saying you should do this, but I figured out how to upgrade the hard drive in the new iMacs to one of a different manufacturer. My i7 came with a 1TB Seagate. I now have a 2TB Hitachi in there. All I had to do to get the thermal sensor to work is cut off the part of the connector on the thermal sensor cable that didn't have wires attached to the pin outs, then fit it on to the new one. At first, the fan ran at full speed. It would start at about 2500 and slowly creep up to 5500. I just flipped the cable over and the fan runs at 1200 rpm now.

Mar 24, 2012I went a couple weeks ok with the Scanner and Image Capture. And then kaput, it doesn't work. I thought about it some and it seemed to stop working after I did Software Update on March 17th, 2012. In that update was a "Digital Camera Raw 3.1.0" update. Which makes me very suspicious. Here is the error I get when I open Image Capture: So, it recognizes the scanner but can't do anything in Image Capture or the with the scanner buttons. I ran Software Update again, just to see if there was a new updated scanner driver but nothing came up. I really want to avoid using the manufacturer's SW drivers etc.

May 7, 2009I have what I thought was an external FW HDD made by LaCie. In checking a backup log, I noticed that my supposedly LaCie HDD is actually a Hitachi drive. Does anyone know if LaCie actually manufactures any hard drives or do they just put other drives in all their enclosures?

Sep 21, 2010I own a Mac Mini and am considering a LaCie 1TB external drive, model number 301304U. It's the one designed by Neil Poulton, is a sleek black box with a blue light on the bottom. It has a USB 2.0 input and an on/off switch in the back. I'd like to know which manufacturer really made the drive inside the LaCie box. I know LaCie uses different manufacturers, but I can't find out any information anywhere about which manufacturer's drive is inside this model, or other LaCie models in general. I guess the same can be said for many other hard drive companies. Heck, even Apple uses Hitachi. That's what came inside the Mac Mini (a 120GB drive), though I now have a 320GB drive inside.

Feb 8, 2012My wife's macbook monitor is destroyed due to happy 2 year old. It won't be worthwhile to replace the monitor and it is not fixable without some expensive work being done on it, therefore I would like to use our TV as an external monitor and retire the macbook to being a mediia computer. I have connected it to the TV, and I see an empty desktop, as far as I can determine it looks like it is treating the TV as a secondary display - that the desktop is extended onto - so I cannot actually interact with the normal desktop. When I try to run things using keyboard shortcuts I hear some sounds of things starting, but I don't see anything on the TV. So what I need to do is to have some way to tell it to treat the secondary display as the primary display.

When I use 1920x1080, I only get 60 Hz and the display is a fuzzy (text). Also, there are black bars. Why?
Will my issues be solved using a Mini DisplayPort -> DVI connection? Or should I exchange it for the 2209?

Apr 26, 2010My brand new 15 inch MacBook Pro was working fine for a week. Today the display went to sleep and when I tried to wake it, it remained dark, items barely visible. I could see the display brightness meter changing, but the brightness did not. Restarting didn't help. Called Apple and they're going to replace the computer. Has this happened to anybody else? Note: I have the hi-res anti-glare display.

Dec 24, 2010I have an early 2008 MBP 15" (I think detailed specs are in my signature) and recently (over the last week or so) when I move my laptop display up and down (physically), the screen has this thing where it gets inverted and what not. It is very annoying, and I have been having to constantly fiddle with it everytime I move my laptop around (I use it both as a desktop and as a laptop, so this happens a lot). I recently switched to using it clamshell mode as a means of avoiding this in desktop mode, but occasionally I'll still need to move it around places and what not. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before, or has any ideas as to what might be a better solution. I would take it in for repair, but I don't really have 300+ dollars to spend on a repair right now. I think it might be related to the data cable connection to the display of the computer, since it is rather intermitment, and requires fiddling for the screen to not be inverted/messed up/displaying black lines, etc. I can post more details about it, pictures or something if that would help any of you geniuses out there as well.

Mar 2, 2009As the title states. I am looking for an external display that matches the display on my black MacBook. I want one with the same gloss finish as my MacBook, this way I can calibrate both screens to look the same. That way when I switch screens it doesn't look different.
Anyone know of a screen that looks identical to the (previous generation) MacBook? I was thinking of getting a Samsung T240 but it has a different finish. How are ASUS screens? Any screens out there that have the same gloss finish?

I need a guide on how to remove the display casing on a unibody MBP with an anti glare screen. Specifically, how to remove the actual top shell, where the Apple logo is. Jun 16, 2012I'm used to using the keystrokes control-shift-eject to put the display to sleep without activating the screensaver or putting the whole computer to sleep.
Since the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display lacks an eject key, the best I have been able to do is set a hot corner. I don't like this as much -- especially since it is possible to trigger the hot corner without intending to.

I have been trying to mirror my mac to my apple tv but the the airplay icon will not display on the menu bar. I have tried turning airplay on and off on the apple tv without success. Under the display settings in system preferences it says No Devices Detected.I have already tried all the suggestions in the support pages to no avail.

Mar 31, 2012I'm using a Dynex Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adaptor to use a second display (an older display, I'll admit). After I have unplugged the adaptor, my MacBook still tries to read the second display, and switches back-and-forth between a blue screen & my desktop. It stabilizes once I plug the adaptor back in. What is causing this problem, and how do I fix it so I can use my primary display without having the adaptor constantly plugged in?
