MacBook Pro :: How To Import Video From Mini DV Camcorder
I was just thinking of getting one of the new MBP's (either a 15" or 17") but it just occurred to me... How does one import video from a Mini DV camcorder to one of these machines, given that FW400 is gone?
I've done some searches of the net and these forums, but either get so many unrelated hits or nothing nearly close enough so I thought I'd better ask myself.

IDVD (iLife 09/11) :: Camcorder Video Import - Poor Quality In IMovie
I have an SD DV camcorder (a canon opt-40 model which is quite decent for SD)which when I hookup directly to my TV puts out a pretty decent picture. I have imported the video from this camcorder into iMovie and done the assembly. I then put it through iDVD to burn a DVD. Many hours later I get my 1 hour long DVD and put it into my DVD player and play it and see a significantly degraded poor picture (youtube quality). Somewhere along the iLife chain I must have lost resolution but I can't seem to find settings to increase the quality or resolution. What can I set to retain better quality for my imported video? Information: macbook Mac OS X (10.5.6) I have both apple and windows computers....

Mac Mini :: Importing Video From Camcorder To IMovie?
I'm sitting here trying how to figure out how to transfer video off this camcorder I have to my computer so I can edit the footage. It's my friend's camera so I'm not familiar with it at all. It has a cassette tape in which the video was recorded onto. The camera also has a USB connector. So I figured my computer would simply recognize that the camera was connected and I could get footage from the camera to the computer that way but it didn't work. camera is a Panasonic PV-GS35, for reference.

MacBook Aluminum :: How Do I Import Footage From A Camcorder With Firewire
I want to import footage onto my MB using FCE4. I have attached my G raid HD via USB and plugged the camcorder into the FW400 port at the back of my hard drive. When I start up FCE the app cannot see that I have the camera attached. Does anyone know how to change the setting or simply get my computer to recognise it? The computer cannot even see the camera when I open up iMovie.

IMovie 11 :: Can Import Video From Mini DV In Separate Clips
I've finally got around to rescuing all the hours of video I've got stored on Mini DV tapes. When I imported one into iMovie though, it came in as one long clip. This is not ideal. I'd hoped/expected that the many clips would come in separately, based upon breaks in the timecode. I guess I can work my way through the one long clip, cutting it into bits, but that's very time consuming and I may as well have imported the footage manually. Does anyone know how I can get footage onto my Mac from Mini DV in separate clips? Or if there's an easy way to break this hour long clip I've already imported into pieces? MacBook Aluminum :: Importing Video From Camcorder Into IMovie Without Firewire
I just switched from windows to Mac when the new Macbooks came out. I have a Panasonic PV-GS300 camcorder which I was hoping to be able to import video from but can't figure out how to get it to work. On my old windows computer I imported via USB using the horrible software that came with the camera and I was looking forward to using iMovie instead. The problem is that everything I read (including support documents on Apple's own website) says that iMovie only supports importing from a video camera via firewire, not USB. However, the new Macbooks do not include firewire. Does this mean that with a new macbook you cannot import video into iMovie? That can't be the case, I'm hoping I'm missing something here. I've loved the macbook up until this point, but if you seriously can't import video into iMovie without firewire then I'm going to have to take it back to the store and move back to windows. Final Cut Pro :: Canon Camcorder Video Quality In IMovie
I just purchased a canon vixia hg21 camcorder and love it. The only problem is that my video is not as clear on my computer (using imovie) as it is seen on the camcorder. What am I doing wrong? Do I purchase Final Cut? All I want to do is download my family videos, edit, burn it on a dvd, then play back on an HD TV. Do I need an external burner? Or, different camcorder? What can I do to get that quality video? Information: Mac OS X Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Hardware :: Mini DV Camcorder As Web Cam?
I have a Canon Optura 20 and I wanted to know if it was possible to turn it into a webcam for use on a mac and pc? If so how do I do that? Is there some special software needed? Is there freeware out there that can do the trick? Also, would I need a firewire connection or just a usb 2.0 connection?

Hardware :: Using Camcorder With Firewire: Mini DV Versus HD
I have problem connecting my camcorder (a mini DVD-based Sony DCR-608E) with I-Mac 20". Based on the many threads I've been reading, I guess it's best for me to get a new camcorder. Am currently considering to buy a camcorder with a firewire port but haven't decided between Mini-DV based or HD. My main consideration is the image quality and cost effiency. Anybody using i-Movie has any recommendation? Should I go for Mini-DV or HD? What are the upsides/downsides?

Applications :: Capturing Video From Sony Camcorder
I have a Sony DCR-PC100 Camcorder that uses mini DV tape for recording, and am trying to get the video onto my mac. I have tried in iMovie '06,'08 and Final Cut Express, and I keep getting the same problem. I connect the camera via firewire, and set the camera to VTR. The app recognizes the camera (Final Cut even specifies the model number correctly) and can access it enough so that when you hit play it starts the camera playing. But it never gets video or audio coming into the computer, instead it just keeps the capture preview as black or blue. Eventually it just color wheels for a while and freezes or has to be shut down. I am using an iMac G5, but have tried it on an Intel MacBook Pro, and the same problem happens. I also tried it on a PC and it worked fine, so I dont think it is the camera, but I have a lot of video to upload, so I need to do it on my iMac. Does anyone know why this would be happening, and what some possible solutions would be?

Applications :: Downloading Video Recorded On Different Camcorder
I used a Sony miniDV camcorder for several years and recorded a lot of video. I bought a Sony HDR-HC7 High Def camcorder and am now trying to download some of the video tapes I recorded on the old Sony camcorder. The video clips chop short and the I can't understand the audio. I'm using imovie 06 and a PowerPC G4 loaded. I think I may need to buy a camera like I had and play the tapes back on it. What do you think? I'm pretty sure I have the setting on the camera and computer set properly.

Applications :: Importing Video From HD Camcorder - How To Export Into Full HD .mp4
so I recently bought a Canon HD Camcorder 1080p with 32GB SD Card. After I am done shooting videos I have two programs to choose from: Final Cut Pro 2 and iMovie '09. It seems that Final Cut Pro does not import from Camcorders, so I have been using iMovie. Once I start importing, it asks me if I want the movie in full 1920x1080 HD. I selected yes. Once I am done importing into iMovie, I want to export it to .mp4 in High Def but the only options iMovie gives me to export is iDVD, iTunes, YouTube and Mobile Me Gallery and none of those formats are in High Def. How can I export my videos to .mp4 in full 1920x1080 format?
