MacBook Pro :: How To Completely Erase Information On Computer

I am exchanging my computer and know that some of my information was deleted using "empty trash" not "secure empty trash" and it may therefore be recoverable. What can I do to make sure it is completely deleted?

MacBook Pro :: Turn On Computer From Completely Powered Off State
Greetings, I have a late-'08 MBP (MB470LL/A) which I use with an external display, monitor, and keyboard. I use it in clamshell mode, so when I turn it on from being completely powered off I need to open the cover, press the power button, wait for login screen to appear on external display, then close the cover. This is only a minor inconvenience at the moment but I am planning on getting a vertical stand in order to reclaim some desk space. With the unit in a vertical position it will be much more cumbersome to pull it out of the stand to open the cover, press power and then put it back, especially with all the wires coming out of it for the external devices. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to turn on the MBP from a completely powered off state when its cover is closed, perhaps via one of the external peripherals. Possibly a key combination? If it makes a difference, the external keyboard I am using is the wired Apple aluminum. I realize I could put it to sleep rather than power down completely, and then use one of the peripherals to wake it up, however this is unfortunately not a reliable option for me because the unit sometimes does not wake from sleep (regardless of whether in clamshell mode or not) due to an issue that I am still trying to pinpoint (will save that question for another post.

MacBook Pro :: Flash Based Game Completely Locked Up Computer
I was playing a flash-based game when the game completely locked up my computer, and the only possible solution was to do a hard reboot (pressing and holding the power key). I waited and then restarted, but the screen had vertical and horizontal pixelated lines running through it all, and it froze several times during the startup process. The computer restarted itself several times, but it kept freezing while still in the grey screen.I tried starting it in safe mode, but I got the same results.

An attempt to run from the Lion restore drive didn't work, either. I reset the SMC and PRAM, and while resetting the PRAM changed the nature of the lines on the screen (narrowed them down), it didn't work, either.I finally got it to boot up, only to have it crash again when I attempted to watch a game on MLB.tv, which uses a Flash player. I have uninstalled and re-installed Flash, to no effect. All of this started after the latest software update from Apple. My data is backed up, but not through Time Machine.I have a 2008 16" MBP running the most updated version of Lion.

OS X :: Reformatting Completely Erase Everything On Mac?
I seemed to have had a keylogger or virus on my MAC. I had to reformat it. I used google, I am relatively new to MACs, and the method I used was inserting the disk 1 while holding down the option key. It is reformatting as I type this. My question, does it completely erase everything? I know with PCs, a simple reformat like this does not always remove all the problems.

ITunes Mac :: Start A New Database (erase Old One Completely) ?
my wife's iTunes database has been corrupt and I can't find any workable solution. Songs just continue to disappear without a trace, so, with the purchase of a new iPhone4 I'd like to start from scratch;[URL]

Note that we have two user accounts on our computer, the music is on the shared drive, and both of our iTunes "accounts" point there. So, we pull from the same source of music, but each have our own playlists and such. This was the only way I could find to not replicate all our music twice on two different user accounts.

We're not geting a new MacBook or iPod, but she is getting a new iPhone. So, I would like to completely blow away her old iTunes directory and start fresh.

However, the new iPhone4 will be restored from the iPhone 3G backup which will by default include all of the iTunes data as well. We'll do this so call history, texts and applications will all come over as-is.

We're prepared to go through the pain of creating new playlists again or at least importing them from the old database (that will be exported before we blow it away).

Just in case I may have over complicated this question;

How do I erase a user's iTunes database so I can create a fresh one?

MacBook Aluminum :: Computer Randomly Freezing Completely
It mostly does it when I move it however it also just randomly does it. I've tried testing each application individually to make sure its none of my applications. It completely freezes. The mouse doesn't move at all. I can also hear the computer still running for about a minute after it freezes but then it stops. I have to hold down the power button to get it to turn off. I let it sit for a couple of minutes and then hit the power button again. Sometimes it gets to the log in screen, sometimes it freezes again at the apple logo, sometimes it freezes at the blue screen right before the login screen comes up and sometimes it gets to the login screen and I put my password in and it freezes again, or sometimes I get halfway through my password and it freezes. I then shut it down again. Wait, again..and start it back up. It continues the same process 2-3 times. Sometimes upwards of 10 if I'm in a willing mood to deal with it.I've gone to an apple store 3 times(I believe) to see what the problem is..and obviously those times haven't worked.

However now I have started college and the closest Apple store is an hour and a half drive and I only have Sundays off, and thats if I don't have to do homework. In other words I don't have 3+ hours time to continue to take it to a store that the first 3 times didn't know what was wrong with it. The first time I went the guy said that it might be my machd drive..so he plugged an external harddrive to my computer and ran some sort of update. Said that it found a couple of problems with my computer and that it fixed them. The next guy said that it might be my harddrive. So he did a disk scan. Went block by block on my entire harddrive and it came up that nothing was wrong with it. So then he said that it might be my OS messing up..so he re-installed my entire OS. The next guy said that it was probably corrupt fonts. So we checked all my fonts. Came up that two should be deleted..he was pretty sure that was my problem..and told me that if I kept having problems that I should delete all my fonts that have "problems" or show up as something to caution. Well I got home, and my computer continued to freeze. So I deleted those fonts..and it didn't work.

OS X Leopard :: Transfer A Downloaded Computer Game To Other Along With Licensing Information?
I have this game I bought on my iBook G4, but I would like to move it to another computer – a 21" iMac. I was able to get the files on the iMac, but when I open up the game, it asks me for licensing information. I was able to find the licensing information that I typed in when I bought this game almost a year ago, but the game rejected the key I gave it.

Is there a way I can transfer the game from my iBook to the iMac along with the licensing information? Without paying $30.00 to buy it again?

Here's the link to the game's website incase it helps.

PowerPC :: Wrong Memory In Your Computer Completely Ruin It?
My ibook was running really slow, so i decided to get some more memory. i'm no computer expert but i used to work in the IT dept and have replaced memory before (in pc's).

Anyway, i went to my local computer store, told the guy there what kind of computer i had. (ibook G4, 14-inch with a built-in memory and an empty slot). He looked it up on the system, figured out what i needed and i bought it. It was a Corsair 1GB DDR2 667mhz. He said it was exactly what i needed. I didn't question him.

Tonight, i go to install it, and it doesn't go in easily. I got it in though, and turned on my computer, and it wouldn't start. i took it out, and it started fine.

I went to some online forums about installing memory on my specific model and people were saying you really need to force it in there, more than you think would even be safe, but it takes a lot of force to get it in, so i thought maybe it didn't work the first time because it wasn't in all the way. i kept trying, and i got it in further, thinking i did it. i went to turn on the computer, dead.

So, i took out the memory, and now my computer still won't start. NOTHING.

I went back to the store, told them what happened, and i spoke to a different salesman than yesterday, and when this guy looked at what i bought, he said it was definitely not the correct one.

He said DDR2 is definitely not compatible with the older iBook. He also said that he looked on his system to find out what type i really need, but the system wouldn't show my model (because its a few years old). Pretty much, he said that the other employee messed up because the computer wouldn't even show him what i would need.

But what i would like to know is what's wrong with my computer exactly? did the mother board fry? did i lose everything? do i need to send it into mac for repair? how screwed am i? and also, is the store responsible for this at all?

The sad part to this story is that in early august of this year, this laptop's battery stopped working, and it was a problem with the power supply. I sent it off to mac and they fixed it, but when it was returned, it wasn't turning on. i sent it back again and they said the motherboard had to be replaced. luckily that happened a month before my extended warranty expired, but this time, i don't have a warranty anymore.

Any insight on my problem? Please someone, cheer me up. Tell me there is something i can do to save my computer and that my motherboard isnt fried again.

Can putting the wrong memory in your computer completely ruin it?
