MacBook Pro :: Hard Disk Unable To Unmount

So here is the problem, the day before yesterday I tried to boot my macbook (which is quit usual...) but all it gave me was a grey screen with the apple logo and spinning wheel. After a few restarts I called the service line to help me get my belonged mbp to work again, after a lot of finger-gymnastics on the keyboard to reset everything I'd manage to run the installer but,

every time I try to re-install mac os x or repair my hard disk the error "could not unmount disk" pops up, currently I am running ubuntu linux from a dvd so I can access the forum, but it also appears that I can access the build in hard disk without any problem. (I tried to format my harddisk using ubuntu so i could try installing mac os x again, but that did not work eighter.

Mac Pro :: External Hard Disk Mounts Again After Unmount?
My Mac Pro [with 4 internal disks, 2 External Disks (Sata Raid 0), and several external FireWire disks and a Voyager disk station] has a little problem with letting externals go Since a few weeks I have a problem with unmounting my externals. After unmount, the unmounted disk will mount again immediately. No time to disconnect cables and/or power. Hinders disk management, backup, and simple disconnecting disks. It only happens with disks (FireWire 400/800/ SATA and USB alike). USB sticks work fine.

Hardware :: Unable To Reapair External Disk / Unmount Error
I have a Western Digital 500gb external hard drive, with 2 partitions, 'KAINARC' and 'JUNGLEMAC', connected to my Intelmac (Tiger 10.4.11 via my firewire, i have connected via usb but the problem is still the same). I may have shut down the drive improperly to cause this situation.

KAINARC now appears on my desktop, but the partition of JUNGLEMAC does not. I go to disk utility and both partitions are visable, KAINARC is mounted but JUNGLEMAC is not. I cannot mount JUNGLEMAC.

When i try to verify and repair the partition I get the message:

Verify and Repair disk JUNGLEMAC
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 non HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error

So I try to verify and repair the partition KAINARC but get this message:

Verify and Repair disk KAINARC
Repairing disk failed with error Could not unmount disk

So I have opened diskwarrior (unbelievably long time to start up and scan disks) in the hope of fixing the hard drive, but when i try to repair I get the error message 'unable to unmount KAINARC'.

I have tried other repair/recover programs but get the same message: 'Could not unmount disk KAINARC'. Im asuming that to fix the hard drive it has to be able to unmount KAINARC.

PowerPC :: Hard Drive Not Working / Repair Volume Failed Could Not Unmount Disk
So so annoyed right now. Today my 12" G4 powerbook started to become slow, lots of spinning wheel, delayed menus etc. I checked file permissions, rebooted and it just kept on getting slower. Eventually it wouldn't get past the white apple screen.

I booted off the Tiger DVD and ran disk utility to fix and repair permissions again. It wouldn't let me repair the disk as I kept getting this error:

'Repair volume failed with error could not unmount disk'

I had to reboot again, and eventually my hard disk no longer appears in Disk Utility. I tried to boot into safe mode and get this:

'"I0ATAController device blocking bus
I0ATAController device blocking bus
I0ATAController device blocking bus
I0ATAController device blocking bus
I0ATAController device blocking bus"

So now I pretty much can't do anything with it. Failed Hard Drive?

MacBook Pro :: Hard Drive Corruption In Disk Utility / Unable To Repair Disk
I'm having an odd error. Disk utilities is reporting my disk is corrupt. I just got the macbook 2010 model with the upgraded non ssd drive. It says its corrupt and I need to do a repair disk through the install disk and it says it cant due to a corruption. But if i run tech tool it says everything is fine. is this because Ilet my batter run out while it was in sleep mode?

I don't think anything is wrong with the computer as it doesnt slow down or freeze, just in disk utils.
should I get Apple to replace the drive?

After copying contents to a RAID for backup using ditto -rsrc <src> <dest> I tried to erase the disk in Bay 3, but it failed as it could not unmount it.

I have tried reformatting the whole disk, not just the partition, changing to MS-FAT and using command line: diskutil unmount /dev/disk2s2.

For some reason it wont allow me to copy the files to the HD. only prompting me with the message "the operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0)".

I presume that it's formatted correctly because I was able to copy a smaller file (363megs) without any troubles. However, whenever it involves these large torrents it prompts me with that same message.

Power Mac G5 :: Can't Unmount Disk With Time Machine
I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I think Leopard must be optimized for Intel Macs, and I'm guessing my problems have to do with using a G5. Anyway, I have a 250G start up drive and a 500G second hard drive which I've been using for Time Machine back ups. A few days ago I began getting errors that time machine could not complete its back up. No details whatsoever.

I looked at several articles and it appeared that I needed to create a partition on my 500G drive and do something else, I forget what. But when I attempted to do this, I got a message that the "disk could not be unmounted". What does this mean and what do I do now?

OS X Leopard :: External USB Hard Drive Won't Unmount (or Eject)?
I have a new 2TB external that is giving me some issues I've not run into before with 1.5TB and smaller HDs.

Once I've used the disk (for seemingly anything at all), it will not let me eject, unmount, drag into the trash etc. saying it's still in use when it's not. All apps closed, all windows closed - everything - no difference. Disk Utility is of no help either. If I simply start up this drive and see it on the desktop - but not use it - I can unmount it no problem.

I'll add, I'm using this HD for a media archive and streaming over WLAN via SMB file sharing - though this should not affect the drive for mounting/unmounting purposes, and never did affect a 1.5TB predecessor to this drive with the same setup and files.

This is happening on my '09 Mini 10.5.8

Any clues? Obviously I can unmount by restarting the Mac - or less desirable - turning off or unplugging the HD, but then I get the scary warning dialog.

OS X :: USB Boot Unable To Show Hard Disk
I've created a Snow Leopard boot disk using this method link. I created it on a 16GB CF Disk. I've tried it twice. First time I formatted the disk as eXfat with 1 partition. Next time I used Mac OS Extended for a 7Gig partition and fat32 for the rest.

Upon boot I get the normal install stuff like I do with the DVD, but then no hard disk shows up. I thought it was because of the eXfat which is why I tried again. I looked into the system profiler and I can see my seagate hard disk, but under disk utility it doesn't exist. My Sata DVD drive shows up though. If I boot off of the DVD I can see and install to my hard disk.

I'm trying to make a USB Disk because I'm planning on getting a SSD and I will be removing the Dvd drive.

This is a Mid 2009 Macbook.

OS X :: Unable To Partition External Hard Disk - How To Fix It
My intention is to partition an external HD in half allowing it to serve as a backup for a pc running windows xp, and the other half as a backup for a mac(10.5. I am using a Seagate external HD(new) that was initially partitioned on a windows xp computer.

The 1st half of the 1TB HD was formatted in NTFS format, and the second half was erased and (I thought) reformatted in HFS plus but when I attempt to use CCC(Carbon Copy) to copy the mac 1/2 of the hard drive, I get this message:

"You may have difficulty booting from this target volume, the underlying disk is not formatted with a partitioning scheme that Apple recommends for Intel Macs."

I have read the recommendations that the external HD need to be partitioned with APM or GPT, but I cannot seem to get to that option now for the mac side of the external HD.

In the Disk Utility, the external HD shows both sections of the partitioned drive(the xp section and the leopard). I do not want to reformat the entire drive(both sections) if at all possible.

I just want the Mac side of the ext drive to be properly prepared for CCC, and the windows side to remain as is.
