MacBook Pro :: Express Card Slot Not Reading Sony Ex SXS Cards?

I as wondering if there is any way to get my macbook pro to recognize SXS cards from a Sony EX when inserted into the express card slot. I have been able to read info from Kensington adaptors (adaptors which allow you to shoot with an EX onto standard SD cards) but official sony cards don't seem to be recognized. When inserted, an icon appears at the top of the screen, and when highlight says "unknown vendor".

MacBook Pro :: SD Card Reader In Express Card Slot
I have an iMac with a built in SD card reader and when a card is inserted, it is displayed with a bespoke drive icon showing an image of an SD card. On my MBP I use an SD card reader in the Express Card slot. Is there any way I can make cards inserted in this reader use the same icon as the iMac rather than the generic white External Drive icon?

I have a late 2008 Unibody MacBook Pro (as you can see in my device details signature at the end of this post)And since I have an express card slot, I was wondering if this would be a good idea.I currently have one Apogee Duet, and I love it, But I would like to record two stereo tracks simultaneously.Would it be possible to get this Belkin adapte and another Apogee Duet to run side by side on my MacBook Pro.This way I could have more recording channels, and two headphone outs with different mixes, While still using Apogee, Without having to drop $2,000.00 on an Ensemble.

Mac :: MBP 17" And Express Card Slot?
I have a question for you about the ExpressCard slot of the new MacBook Pros.. I'm going to buy (maybe today) my first Mac and I'd like to buy the 17", since I need a portable desktop replacement... one of the reasons why I'd like to buy the 17" (apart from the very nice screen resolution) is that it has an ExpressCard slot which enables you (I hope) to expand the capabilities of your MBP in the future... My question is if the ExpressCard is version 1 or 2, because I'd like to buy in the future an ExpressCard with USB 3 ports and only the ExpressCard 2 can support the specifications of USB 3 (5 Gbps), is it right? Do you think there will be USB 3 ExpressCards for the MBPs?

Hardware :: Best Compatible Express Card Wifi Cards?
I need a wifi card for my MacBook Pro (preferably N, but G is OK), and an ExpressCard version seems the best choice, however I'm having a really hard time finding one in stores, much less one that I know is Mac compatible. It seems the PC-world's reluctance to move on from PCMCIA is slowing down progress in this area.

There must be an expressCard wifi card out there that works with a MBP running leopard. Does anyone know of one?

Mac :: 15" MBP With Express Card Slot Cons?
I am thinking about purchasing one of the early releases of the MBP 15", before they replaced the expresscard slot with the SD Card slot. As a filmmaker, the expresscard slot allows on-site ingestion of Sony's and Panasonic's SxS and P2 cards - a nice utility. I also don't use point-and-shoots, so the SD card has zero utility for me.I just wanted to make sure that, before I buy the previous revision, there is nothing I will be missing by purchasing the older edition. I remember that they widened the color gamut on the MBPs by 30% with the update, but this is really insignificant as their color accuracy isn't thaaaat great anyway.

MacBook Pro :: SD Card Not Mounting In Card Slot, Mounts Only With USB Card Reader?
I have browsed this forum "Ports and interfaces on the MacBook Pro (2008 and Later)" for a bit and searched for "SD" but did not find any posts directly related to my issue here. I have a Kingston 512Mb card which mounts in my MacBook Pro only when I insert it in a cardreader inserted in the USB port. Directly in the memory card slot it does not mount. Other SD cards do mount. I did not yet recognise a pattern in what mounts and does not mount. I need to mount this specific SD card in the memory slot because bigger, newer SD cards are not accepted by the device I am using the card in (an iRex iLiad).

MacBook Pro :: Using SD Reader Slot For Micro SD Cards?
I have the new 13" MacBook Pro that has a SD card slot. My question is, are there any adapters that I could get that would let me read a Micro SD card from my cell phone? I know there are SD to Micro SD adapters, however, they "stick out" Would you happen to know of any "low-profile" adaters that would only go in and only stick out just enough to put in the micro sd card and not stick out so much? I could then leave the adapter card in the slot at all times. This would keep the slot free of dust when not in use, allow me to usually use a micro SD card without an USB adapter and plus, if I want to use it as a regular SD slot, I can just take out the adapter and use it normally.

MacBook Pro :: Slot Stopped Mounting SD Cards - No Recognition
I was just going between sd cards, trying to empty one out to use for something. Then, suddenly, it stopped mounting. None of the cards that previously mounted before suddenly stopped. As if the SD slot itself had been gone bye-bye. No recognition. SD cards are just fine. We have about dozen of them but it all mounts perfectly on other two macs. Obviously, it's my MBP's problem.I have rebooted two times, with no luck. I inserted them slowly and fast and anyway I could.

MacBook Pro :: 15" MBP With Express Card Or SD Card?
I'm looking to buy my first Mac and am looking at the 15" MBP. I have the opportunity to purchase either the 15" MBP with the Expresscard Slot or the newer MBP with the SD slot. For me the SD slot won't really be a benefit since I have a camera that uses a differnt type of memory card. I guess my real debate is if the increase in battery life of the new MBP with the built in battery is more of a positive that the expansion capability of the MBP with the Expresscard Slot.

MacBook Pro :: Firewire Express / 34 Cards On Mabook Pro?
I recently needed to add some firewire ports to my Macbook Pro, so decided to purchase a Sonnet firewire express card. It's the one with 2 Firewire 400 ports and one USB port. The card works fine, although I have a big problem with it, basically it is VERY easy for the card to be ejected by mistake, even if you nudge it very slightly. I saw a review of this card which said the same thing, but I'm wondering if this is the same for all express cards, or just this one?? If they are all the same, is there some other way to secure it so there's no chance of it pinging out? If this is meant to be a new "standard" I find it very difficult to believe the connection would be so delicate...

I also realised that I actually need a card with FW 400 and 800 ports, or a card with 2 FW 800 ports. This is because I need to connect 2 audio interfaces, it's not worth going into the details but it's a very particular setup, and they need to be on the same bus. So I CAN'T use one 400 port on the express card and then use the normal FW800 port of the Macbook Pro (the devices also cannot be daisy chained, and even if they could it would slow the 800 device down to 400, which wouldn't be acceptable).

I noticed there are three or four such cards available, including one from Sonnet. I really want to avoid Sonnet if possible, because of the loose connection issue. I also need to know, if there is a FW400 and a FW800 device connected to an express card, does the speed of the 800 device slow down to 400, or can one run at 800 and the other at 400 simultaneously??

One thing I hate about Mac's are there lack of Port's. Although I am a sincere/proud Mac Owner. I always wondered why Apple had lack of ports. Now my question:

Why doesen't the 17inch MBP have an SD CARD Slot and 4 USB PORT'S? Can we look forward to seeing this in the next update?

Also I think the Baseline MBP (13inch) should have at least 3 USB Ports too! For the 15 inch It should have 4 also.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not to give up my expresscard slot for an SD card slot. If I could figure out something useful to do with it, that would persuade me. I don't do hard core photography yet, and if I did, I could always just USB the camera.Does anyone use the SD card slot for something other than photography? I figured maybe it could be used like a floppy drive to organize certain projects or files but those could always be backed up to CD/ DVD. Not to mention, if you store the files on your hard drive, time machine would back them up.

I have a 95MB/s UHS I and Class 10 SD card.  Using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, I get 17 MB/s write and 19.8 MB/s read speeds.   Following the information in this apple support document, the speed of my internal card reader is 480Mb/s.  Depending upon how you convert bits to bytes, that should be in the 57-60MB/s range.
